Again ... Love your public education outreach work here. I've learned so much already on topics that are way outside my research area. (Especially laying sick in bed for a week.) A possible future topic? What's the religious studies take on the social control theory of "religious cults / new religious movements"? The most often cited text seems to be Combatting Cult Mind Control. It's very much in the field of social psychology. What I find interesting? The BITE model proposed in it could be used to, effectively place all new religious movements, but also all religious sects on a sliding scale between "high control "cult"" and low control sect. So, say, the branch Branch Davidians would be at the top and, say, Australian Aboriginal "dreamtime" rituals or other folk religions would be at the bottom. Your interest in Islam might make you a good person to address this, given the fairly strict practices of religious law in Sunni, Salafi and Ibadi Islam.
I am a 61 year old Muslim. All my life, especially at young age, I have attended various Islamic events and travelled to places related to my belief. All these years, I never knew this much that you presented in this video. Maybe I wasn't informed, or simply, I didn't ask. What an excellent presentation that deserves all the credit. I feel ashamed of myself, Thank you.
I'm a 50 year old man. Raised Lutheran but as life went on ,I realized religion is here to control us. One day, hopefully, the world will realize religion is an imaginary boundary. We live we die and everything in between is a waste if we can't get along. Christians don't like muslims, muslims don't like Christians, how does either have peace after death if hate is all both know? I have given up believing in God , I hope the world realizes how ignorant both sides have been. We'll never go anywhere with hate.

I’m not religious or interested in adopting a religion but I’m very interested in learning about religion as it relates to history, philosophy and the state of the world today. I really appreciate your detailed and balanced presentations. Thank you for all your hard work.
Same. I'm either agnostic or atheist(I dont think it matters), but religion has shaped so much of our culture and how events play out that one basically has to understand the history of religion to understand why many groups act the way they do. Understanding many geopolitical and humanitarian actions is greatly enhanced by knowing the religious context.
To sum things up. Religion is a scary cult that can lead people to both good and evil. But it's scary how you can make good people do evil things with it. We should be working to get rid of it.
Your unbiased narratives and summation deserve more appreciation than many of the so-called Islamic scholars who incite promote enmity against each other(Shia and Sunni). Those who do not like your video, obviously miss the point that you presented a factual account of the differences and the origins of the divisions between Shia and Sunni and most of these people did not know themselves. Thanks, from a Sunni Muslim.

I am a non-Muslim and found this video to be tremendously valuable to my understanding of the history and relationship of these two Muslim groups. Thank you.
I am Shi’a, my daughter in law is Sunni, we have excellent relations. We are all Muslims, and united under the prophethood of Muhammad peace be upon him.
In my country, Malaysia, the Shia Islam is outlawed. Shia Islam is considered ajaran sesat/deviant teaching. The followers of Shia Islam usually get arrested and prosecuted.
@Secosia there are bunch of people who are extremists who do this, like they are sunnis who curse on Ahlul bayt! Does all sunnis curse on Ahlul bayt? The answer is no! But your extremist imams Always will show you those shia extremist minority and will tell you look at shia muslim and will start to stuff your brains with all the lies like that we don't worship god or that we have another Qur'an or that we consider Ali as prophet not Mohammad pbuh or that we curse the prophet wives or that we don't pray 5 times a day or that we never existed in the times of rashidons or that we don't do hajj... We are used to all your scholar's lies :)
As a Muslim myself, this cleared a lot for me. I had just been told "We aren't Sunni or Shia, we are just Muslims" whenever I asked them. Thank you for making such a concise video!
there a huge different in belief between these two group. So choose wisely which one you feels more in line with the Quran as the source and Hadith/sunnah.
Lol There is no just-Muslim person. How do you rate it? Do you think that Abu Bakr (may God curse him) was the first caliph or Ali, peace be upon him? Or how do you pray your prayers if you only call yourself a Muslim?
I am an Indian and a Hindu and I often wondered what is the difference between these two groups; thank you so much dude for coming up with this video. It really helped me to understand the details and the roots of Shia and Sunni. Even I had a thinking that random two groups are just against each other to show superiority over another. I appreciate your reading and research you did to make this video. You made it easier for millions to understand this difference. Cheers to you and keep sharing knowledge. Love from India.
After the death of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), there were two options to seek guidance from. a) The ahlulbayt (the holy household) of the Holy Prophet. b) Others. The ahlulbayt are those family members of the Holy Prophet who grew up in his blessed lap. They are the people in whose house Islam, Qur'an and the sharia'h was revealed. They are the ones upon whom Muslims are obligated to send blessings in their namaz/Salat/Daily Prayers. Ahlulbayt are those family members of the Holy Prophet about whom Allah testifies to their purity, infallibility and sinlessness in the holy Qur'an. They are the ones who the Holy Prophet left behind him with the holy Qur'an. The Ahlulbayt loved the Holy Prophet the most and he loved them the most. Amongst the ahlulbayt you have people like hazrat Ali who is the gateway to to the city of the knowledge of the Holy Prophet, hazrat Fatimah Zahra who is the chief of the women of the paradise. Imam Hasan and Husain, the two leaders of the youths of paradise. They are the heirs of the knowledge and wisdom of the Holy Prophet. Who can understand Islam, Qur'an, sharia'h, the sunnah of the Holy Prophet and so on better than the people of the house? Therefore, after the Holy Prophet Muhammad, the Shi'as seek guidance from the Holy Household of the Holy Prophet. As regards to the others, we are not sure of the state of their iman, their source of knowledge, information and understanding of Islam. Muslims in general and the reverts/converts/new Muslims in particular need to study the history of Islam (not of the Muslims). Carry out your own independent and unbiased research on the personalities like the Holy Prophet Muhammad, his beloved daughter Fatimah and their sons Hasan and Husain (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them all). I’m sunni muslim who studied abrahamic religion. For me, it doesn’t matter which path you use to follows because we all worship the same entity which is one God (Allah s.w.t), just put your trust in Allah & never arguing about others people view. We all deserve to live in peacefully.
Do you consider your children as "other" people and adhere to the idea of letting them lead their life with their religious choice or no religion at all?
It’s a big thing to put down Shia Muslims. Especially on UA-cam “big Muslim UA-camrs” I won’t mention names, love to do this, and they get love from the Sunni community it’s not right especially because Sunnis are a majority. So I come from family with both because I’m Iranian and I have both Kurdish and Azerbaijani and it offends me, but even my Shia side of the family they are jus Muslims. They pray everyday and to Allah (swt) everything Sunnis says about Shia is rubbish
As a Shia, you've definitely done a great job bringing light into the Imams after Ali A.S, furthere more you've taught me aswell in relation to some of the branches, well done!!

@@fabiology6439 Claiming that the Imam has power over creation and has all-knowledge to interpret and change islamic rulings to his liking is no different than Shirk.
@@mountainleopard5370 Allah has made this life in a way where we seek a means to attain our goals. For example going to the doctor before the specialist (which is called a metaphor/example in case your uneducated mind didn't understand). This is something very natural and accepted. Even those who believe in God seek help through others, it doesn’t mean that we don’t believe in God if we go to a doctor. When we say Ya Ali or Ya Hussayn we are seeking help from the Ahlulbayt knowing and believing that whatever help they give us is through and by the permission of God. There are several verses in the Quran which encourage people to seek a means to reach their goal or even get closer to God. Nisaa 64 This verse tells believers who are seeking repentance to repent through RasulAllah, basically encouraging people to call upon RasulAllah. Ma’ida 25 Encourages people to seek a means to reach God. When we call upon the Ahlulbayt a.s. we are seeking a legitimate means that God has appointed for us. Saying Ya Ali is not only halal, it is also encouraged because the Ahlulbayt are the means that God uses to connect with us, we use them to connect with God. Also Ya Mohammed s.a.w.s. is in your books but you've just never read them. Plus saying that these people are "dead" and cannot hear us is a pure contradiction with what the Quran says. O you who believe! seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient ones (153). And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive (154). And We will most certainly try you with somewhat of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give good news to the patient ones (155), who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: “Surely we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return” (156). Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those are the followers of the right course (157).

Nice video. Just a note. Shia believe in Imam Ali (A.S.) being the successor because of the event at Ghadeer Khumm where the Prophet (S.) said that "Whoever I am his master (Mawla) then Ali is his master (Mawla)" along with other events. Also, Twelver Shias (the main group of Shias) still have a living Imam, Imam Mehdi (AJ.), who is in occultation and will return. This is similar to how Muslims believe Prophet Jesus (A.S.) will return. This is just a general note and more details can be found at the appropriate sources.
What do you mean by alive but in occultation? Is there a living person who carries that title but lives in hiding, or is it purely eschatological figure?
@Pedro Cruz yes Imam Mahdi who is the 12th and last Imam is still living until these days but in hiding and he will only appear again before a certain number of years before yawm al kiyamah
Well said👏 I thought of this too when watching the video. We didn’t just make up from our own minds that Imam Ali should be the successor, he was literally appointed by the Prophet (pbuh)
I like the way you present facts in a very objective manner; a great scholar in the making :). I can say that you said it all correct, at least for the part on Shi’ism.
Umm did he? He didn't even mention Ghadeer. Prophet Muhammad already told the Muslims multiple times who is gonna lead them after his death. The Sunnis rejected it after his death, which led THEM to deviate, not us.
Wow. I did not think a 15 minute video could deliver a concise but clear and mostly accurate explanation of this divide in the Islamic world to the rest of the human population. Usually a college level course delivers this amount of data. Kudos to you for making it simple and concise
This was very interesting and highly informative video. I was aware of the Sunni and Shia split within Islam and the associated reasons but was not aware of the extent of the disparate factions. Well done! 🇨🇦
Very much appreciated. It's true that when one looks for a difference between Sunni and Shia, one usually gets a short answer of a split happening after the death of Muhammad. This is why I made an effort to find a vid like this. As pointed out, it would be like looking into different branches of Christianity, finding out about the Great Schism and thinking you have it all figured out.
Wat is this terminology SUSHI ?? I didnt agree with this ??? @@dr.farehasaleem5061 "SUSHI" is a light-hearted joke to resolve a serious problem. Since her mother is SUNNI and her father is SHIA, if you combine the first two letters of SUNNI and the first three letters of SHIA, you get SU-SHI, that is SUSHI. At 14:48 in video, the young child is a combination of her mother and father, hence SUSHI which is not an actual faction of Muslims. To make matters more hilarious (or serious, depending on how you look at it), sushi is a Japanese food based on raw fish. On a more serious note, though, did you say that Muslim religion is based on blood grouping? And that A+ is more common among Muslims of the decedents of Hazrat Ali? Could you please share a link/URL to show at least one such study done under strict scientific conditions with relevant statistical analyses? Thank you!
Prophet Muhammad(SM) didnt have any sons as they passed away at a very young age(so basically no inheritence factor directly). In his farewell hajj speech he also said if a slave is a better leader do not be envious and that to accept him as a leader. These things make me question Shiism.
Thank you for your unbiased, and professional presentation of the differences between the two major sectors of Islam. Please keep up the good work. There is a minor inaccuracy, or I might have misunderstood what you're saying as English isn't my language. @10:02 Shia's don't believe that the Quran is incomplete. Otherwise, it means that their religion is incomplete, and that contradicts the verse: "Alyauma akmaltu lakum deenakum wa atmamtu alaykum nimati.." from "Almaida: 3" What Shia's believe however, that Quran has "tafseer", and has "taweel". Anyone that knows Arabic literature can basically understand Quran, which is what tafseer means. Now if everyone's tafseer is credible or not, that's a different subject. Taweel in the other hand is being able to understand the metaphorical meanings of the verses of the Quran. So, in order to understand the deep meanings of Quran, you have to get that from the source, which Shia's believe that Ali and his descendants have been taught this knowledge. Hence, why Jaffaris follow their imams, and base their "ahkam" on their hadeeths in addition to the Quran. And, sorry for the long comment.
no. some shia sects and especially ithna asharis believe in tahreef of the quran. they believe the quran we have now isnt the real quran and that the real quran is 3x the size of the "sunni" quran that we have now and that all the verses that were "erased" are all about ali.

I had this ultimate hate toward shia, was so ready to slap one on the face if I met any, up to the point where I couldn't stand it anymore and looked for any shia community. People kept telling me not to go alone, to bring any smarter guy along. When I finally found a shia community, nobody wanted to come along, so I went there by myself. I sat down among shi'is that were listening to their ulama preaching. Somehow my fast-beating heart gradually settled down when I heard the guy preaching about the 2nd verse of surah al-Baqarah, the verse of the Holy Quran that I firmly believe. When it was about to end he mentioned Husayn ibn Ali, then I heard the guy next to me sobbing softly, also the one next to him, also the one in front of me, it was like almost everybody there was crying. Only by then I remembered that I was surrounded by shi'is. For almost an hour I completely forgot that I'd been listening to a shia preaching all along. I was told that shia has a different Quran. No, they don't. I didn't join shia, I never will, as how I've never even also consider myself a sunni. I'm a muslim, that's it. That power of hate was just unbelievable, I still can't believe that I could hate that much against something I never knew about. The more I think about any justified reason to hate, the more I felt like being ordered to hate. I'm pretty sure the only reason to bring someone along was to keep burning that hate, or at least to prevent one from joining instead.

Today Saudi Arabia pretends to be Umayyads while Iraq and Iran represents the Shia, who leads the Islamic attempt to unity and fight the common enemy. One day they will be united and the spark will rekindle. The Sunnis embarked on military domination while the Shia led the scientific revolution (Mutazila-question everything), it was the Sunni fundamentalism that did the most harm. I am a Sunni.
Imam jaffer is actually common in all Sunni and Shia paths, however both think he had different teaching. Infact Hanfi which is largest school of thought either in Sunnis or Shia, imam Abu Hanifa was student of Imam Jaffer. So clearly the division is not so old as today's historians say so. Generally it is very good video I learned a lot.
Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Jaffar were contemporaries .www.ilmgate.org/regarding-imam-Abu-Hanifah-studying-under-imam-jafar/. Further, one of the main differences between sunism and shism is sunis for the most part believe the Quran is complete, and anyone can study it and try to understand it. Shias have the concept of immamt, spiritual leaders from the decent of Ali (RZ), who are better suited to understand the Quran.
He was not a student of Imam Jafer As Sadiq. This is a rumour.Imam abu hanifa Lived in other place and time and Imam Jafer in other time. This is totaly fake
The demarcation between Sunni and Shia has historically been really blurry and the clearer line we have now is only like 40 years old and is a reaction to the idea that Imam Khomenei would lead a pan-Islamic global revolution.
Thank you for enlightening me(us) in the very intricate and complex history of the Islamic religion. The more we know the better it helps us understand humans that have religious views and tenets than we as individuals.

I hate all independent sovereign nations of the world.. because it is a feudal system and structure..🦀🤳🤓
@Who taught You To Hate Yourself why would I want to destroy my beautiful species of humanity social structure.. Yeah I love reality of life, the very essence of it..😊 that is why preserving our species and reasonably equality for all mankind is logical and worthy for the conversation..🦀🤳🤓

Thank you for sharing all of these through your channel, even though I was born as a Sunni Muslim, in my whole life I keep learning everything about religions, I even question my own religion (Islam). Islam is the antithesis of the British weather. Islam is mostly Sunni and a little bit Shi’ite, whereas the British weather is a little bit sunny but mostly shite. Great video by the way. Very informative 😊
When you boil it down it's just your common or garden power struggle that you get with any group of people whether it be religious political or otherwise.
I don't agree with that. The Sunni/Shia split represents an interesting difference in ideology which isn't a common conflict today. Sunni religious ideology is concerned with the continued codification of religious legal institutions. Whereas Shia ideology is more flexible on matters involving religious legal instutions and is more concerned with an evolving spiritual tradition passed down from a series of philosphers.
We of course all remember that Iran and Iraq went to war 40 years ago in which over a million people died. If this is not a power struggle than I don't know what is
Very helpful and informative. Most appreciated as we have only been confused by modern conflicts as mass media worsened the divides lot worse than I ever known personally. Peace and stability may come from knowing that we are more similar than different. Regards.
As a muslim who follow Quran, I actually dont really care about sunni and shia thing. First, there is no sunni or shia in prophet era. Secondly, it is not part of iman or islam requirement. Some stupid people usually say "shia is not islam". But I appreciate this video because you make some effort to bring this informative stories. After studying each group, I come up with conclusion: whatever you are sunni or shia, you can go to heaven if you are sincere, honest, do good deeds, etc as explain in Quran.
Then answer me this, do you believe the descendants of Muhammad as divinely inspired? That's the problem with not claiming to be sunni nor shia. If you're a muslim who believe that the Imams are not infallible/maksum, then you're a sunni.
@@gondala lol what? Only because it is that simple. Every Muslim has the basic faith that Muhammad is the last prophet of God and there is no god but *the* God. The majority of Muslims are sunni (this is why I assume and said "you're a sunni" ) and they probably wouldn't know or even call themselves sunnis if not for shia's distinct principles. By all means I'm not against Shias existing nor am I saying that they aren't Muslims but the small theological differences unfortunately happened to be the most substantial in deciding how the religion works and progress. This is why I bring up about the Imams because they are the deal breaker. According to Shias, the hadith of the Imams are *weighted almost the same as prophet Muhammad SAW himself* . This is a problem as being infallible/maksum is a quality that's usually reserved only for the great Prophets and especially problematic that in their belief it can be passed through bloodline inheritance. I know what you're trying to say with the kumbaya stuff but we have to bridge the gap between sect through mutual understanding of each others differences and throwing your hands up then say "we're all muslims" is quite lazy, doesn't add anything to the conversation and in your own words "simple logic, black and white". I'm sorry if I offend you, no intention to just needed to share. And let me rephrase my statement - If you're a Muslim who believe that the Imams are not maksum, then you're not a Shia, and *probably* a Sunni based on majority.
Thank you for such a clear, concise and unbiased explanation. I never understood the differences between Shia and Sunni Islam so thank you for the explanation.
your pronounciation is absolutely incredible, it's like you can speak the language (this is my first video of you so idk but it seems that you do have a second language- you definitely have more range than the average english speaker)
As a Muslim myself I get frustrated at the lack of concrete discussion on the differences between the two denominations. Your video helped clear a lot up for me and even fixed of some incorrect information I’ve been told by my Sunni imams/teachers in the past. Maybe you could do a more in-depth video about the differences and why those differences exist using contemporary arguments from both sides to bolster the study?
You are talking history but your content is so convincing, as if you lived it all, your language so precise, pronunciation of words so clear, that's amazing
Shia in Quran - Part 3 continuation from the previous post: The noble Quran says: surah 4 verse O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in the result. Surah 4, Verse 59 And later in the same chapter, ALLAH SWT defines those in authority in this verse. We notice from the verse itself that obedience to such authorities is mandated similar to the authority of ALLAH and his messenger upon believers. And we all know that ALLAH SWT never commands man to follow the wrongdoers, and he the sublime never orders man to do bad deeds or evil acts as in his hand is nothing but Good-ness so the narration that such person could be anyone even Abyssinian slave is a false hadith refuted by the holly Quran. The holly Quran further distinguishes those in command in the following verse: And when any news of security or fear comes to them, they disclose it; whereas if they had referred it (the news) to the Messenger or to those charged with authority (if they had not disclosed it to all the people), those among them who are able to search out the news would have known it (the truth). If it had not been for the Virtue of Allah and His Mercy, all but a few of you would have certainly followed Satan. Surah 4, verse 83. For a practicing Muslim, it is obvious that the issues of fear and security are not just about this world as we are all concerned about the hereafter and the Day of Judgement when we meet ALLAH SWT and we want to be on the right side and our book of deeds to be given to our right hand. So the person in authority should be able to get to the truth of the matter from the holy Quran without mistake. Because as we mentioned before in explaining verse 4:59 the obedience of the one in command is mandated on every practicing Muslim the same way as obedience to the messenger of ALLAH (sawa). So who are these people??????????? Now that we know the station of the messenger of ALLAH (sawa) We want to know who are these people? First, let us go back to the Holy Quran again. There is an event the messenger of ALLAH (sawa) had an argument about the nature of Jesus (as) with the Christians of the town of Najran. The Christians came to him and wanted to know how Islam views Jesus/Isa (as), this event in Islamic history called Mubahilah. Almost all the Sunni scholars mention this event in their books but for political reasons, there is not much attention paid to it. However, the event is like the sun that shines upon the earth. Any how the Quranic revelation that came in response to their inquiry was this: إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ ۖ خَلَقَهُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was. (3:59) Yet the Christians of Najran argued with prophet Mohammad (sawa) that he was wrong and Jesus was the son of God. Now, whoever disputes with you ˹O Prophet˺ concerning Jesus after full knowledge has come to you, say, “Come! Let us gather our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves-then let us sincerely invoke Allah’s curse upon the liars.” To be continued on the next comment...

I can say that I know enough about Sunni and Shia doctrines, and I can say that you hit this one right on the bullseye. You touched on the subject of Safawii vs Ottoman political struggle which generated much of the separation between the two sects in modern times. The Safawii had to convince their people that Sunni are different therefore it is OK to fight them, and vice versa. Because as you know a Muslim cannot fight another Muslim.
This is a very clear and informative post. A suggestion: it would be useful to have a list of sources and or further readings, for those who wish to pursue the matter further.
Your clarity in thought and expression on matters within the realm of inquiry into religious and philosophy is very remarkable and thus commendable, for you serve to enlarge the visions of the common masses having very little time and energy for pursuing these matters and you thus contribute to the peace of tgis strife-ridden world. Congratulations to you...
Great video overall, however if there is one thing I would point out, it would be the event of Ghadir Khumm. This is essentially the event where Shias believe Prophet Muhammad appoint Hazrat Ali as the first Imam. I think it is very important to mention this when talking about the split since it is essentially the start of it.
Yes that was the start of it. But at a lesser extent. The real divide occurs when ameer mawiya refused to accept Hazrat Ali as a caliph. Due to this reason, real divide is attributed to Hazrat Mawiya. I wish if he has not divided Muslims forever. He has two great injustices with Islam. First, causing a permanent divide among Muslims and second, stealing khilafat e rashida from Muslims forever. In later years, rise of Iran has mixed Persian hatred of Hazrat Umar with shiaism. And this Persian hatred become synonymous with Shias.
@@MegaBaddog dear just read history by yourself. You are not a kid. It is a truth. Hazrat Mawiya is responsible for finishing Khilafat e Rashida forever. Again ... Love your public education outreach work here. I've learned so much already on topics that are way outside my research area. (Especially laying sick in bed for a week.)
A possible future topic?
Its so frustrating to me. The 2 sound so perfectly symbiotic, are there any who followed both? I feel like they would make such an epic duality

Explore the school of the ahlulbayt and discover its beauty.
Do not be a victim of prejudice, brainwashing, ignorance and misconceptions about the school of the ahlulbayt.

So it does not matter if u consider the prphet's companions kafirs
Your clear-mindedness is a welcome addition to the often hysterical discussions about religion. Thank you.

Nisaa 64
This verse tells believers who are seeking repentance to repent through RasulAllah, basically encouraging people to call upon RasulAllah.
Ma’ida 25
Encourages people to seek a means to reach God.

That sum up better
What do you mean by alive but in occultation? Is there a living person who carries that title but lives in hiding, or is it purely eschatological figure?

@@dr.farehasaleem5061 "SUSHI" is a light-hearted joke to resolve a serious problem. Thank you for your unbiased, and professional presentation of the differences between the two major sectors of Islam. Please keep up the good work.
There is a minor inaccuracy, or I might have misunderstood what you're saying as English isn't my language. @10:02
Shia's don't believe that the Quran is incomplete. Otherwise, it means that their religion is incomplete, and that contradicts the verse: "Alyauma akmaltu lakum deenakum wa atmamtu alaykum nimati.." from "Almaida: 3"
What Shia's believe however, that Quran has "tafseer", and has "taweel".

Indeed there is no difference between Shia and Sunni. The division was created by the prophet's family. Ali took the side of those who later gave intellectual and scriptural leadership and was the vanguard to a scientific revolution, unknown at the time. The Umayyads of Damascus, for political reasons sowed the rift.

When asked “Are you Sunni or Shia” respond by saying “I’m Muslim”.
totally agree with you!
Then answer me this, do you believe the descendants of Muhammad as divinely inspired? That's the problem with not claiming to be sunni nor shia. If you're a muslim who believe that the Imams are not infallible/maksum, then you're a sunni.
@@originalsun5206 it just your claim with simple logic, black and white, "if he is not shia then he must be sunni". 😄

Shia in Quran - Part 3 continuation from the previous post:
The noble Quran says: surah 4 verse 59
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.
The holly Quran further distinguishes those in command in the following verse:
And when any news of security or fear comes to them, they disclose it; whereas if they had referred it (the news) to the Messenger or to those charged with authority (if they had not disclosed it to all the people), those among them who are able to search out the news would have known it (the truth).
Now that we know the station of the messenger of ALLAH (sawa)
We want to know who are these people?
First, let us go back to the Holy Quran again. There is an event the messenger of ALLAH (sawa) had an argument about the nature of Jesus (as) with the Christians of the town of Najran. The Christians came to him and wanted to know how Islam views Jesus/Isa (as), this event in Islamic history called Mubahilah. Almost all the Sunni scholars mention this event in their books but for political reasons, there is not much attention paid to it. However, the event is like the sun that shines upon the earth.
Any how the Quranic revelation that came in response to their inquiry was this:
إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ ۖ خَلَقَهُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was. (3:59)
Yet the Christians of Najran argued with prophet Mohammad (sawa) that he was wrong and Jesus was the son of God. Upon their argument, ALLAH swt revealed the following verse: 3:61
Now, whoever disputes with you ˹O Prophet˺ concerning Jesus after full knowledge has come to you, say, “Come! Let us gather our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves-then let us sincerely invoke Allah’s curse upon the liars.”
To be continued on the next comment...

Another excellent explanation of the Shia - Sunni differences and similarities.
Absolutely!
