My mum and dad were big fans I think I was a bit young to be bothered but occasionally her songs pop up on the radio and I think of my mum and dad. Thank you for that as always ❤❤❤
I was born in 57 so I was very young when Kathy was at the height of her fame but I remember very clearly as a young lad how beautiful she was, I realise now she was my first love 😆 rest in peace Kathy beautiful lady you deserved better
For some reason I have a very clear memory of her too. I was born in December 56 which seems to surprise some people and about 5 years ago had to make a delivery to a customer called Cathy Kirby in Bermondsey, London. When she answered her door, as a joke I covered my eyes claiming I feared being dazzled by her glossy red lipstick and bottle blonde hair. The customer, who may have been 70 but not much more, just laughed and said I must be older than I look. She had obviously heard all the jokes before but not from anyone of what she viewed as the "young generation".
Kathy really was a huge star on TV & in early pop music. I can remember seeint her on TV shows she was so beautiful & very glamorous!! A very good but sadly underrated singer.
One of the very finest to come from the UK. Great voice, great hour glass figure, great looks and a beautiful personality, sadly let down by so many that supposedly loved her.
@@darcylowe5292 I know that the quote "Born in 1954" is a bit ambiguous, but I the the lady who wrote that was talking about herself. I too was born in 1954 and I too remember Kathy Kirby's glossy red shiny lipstick. There was a joke doing the rounds about kissing Kathy and slipping off!
@GarGri oh I'm sorry I misunderstood. I was born in 51, so I remember her too. So glamorous with the shiny red lips 👄 I think she was one of the people who got me interested in makeup. Apart from my glamorous mum. Kathy brings back wonderful memories of my family all together watching her on black and white tv.
I met Kathy under a stressful situation. As a steeplejack, I had the job of erecting a tall chimney at the Mansions she was living. This entailed a lot of shouting from the ground to the roof and we started work early morning. One day I shouted up to my mate and I had to duck a flying wine bottle hurled from the top floor followed by a torrent of expletives. It was Kathy screaming for me to shut up. "I need some ****** sleep" she screamed. Not wanting to upset a lady I admired so much I went out the following day and purchased some walkie talkies so we didn't need to shout anymore. I'm glad I did. A couple of days later, I found out that the notorious gangster Jack Spot lived there as well and it would have been more than wine bottles coming my way! Tom
@@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv Thank you, Being a gentleman comes easy for those of us who went through the war. Sadly some chose not to be, but thats another story. Being a gentleman of age I didn't mention a certain Mr Forsythe in my comment.. 'Brucie' was a Jack the lad if ever I met one. When Kathy was giving me a right ear bashing the door opened and who popped out to escort Kathy back into the flat? Non other than our Brucie! And that wasn't my only encounter with Mr Forsythe. I remember her sings in the 1960’s, I went out with a girl from the Ursuline in Queens Road, when I lived at Brentwood, She had a hit of the Doris Day song - Secret Love.
I had never heard of her before this video. It's a classic rise-and-fall biography. You said 40,000 pounds a week. In the early '60s, the exchange rate was roughly US $3 to one pound, which was $120,000. So, in 2024 dollars, that would be approximately US $1 million.
Yes she quoted 40,000 pounds herself in an interview which I thought would have been a lot these days, thank you for working that out 😁👌 What shocked me the most about her in her later years was how humble she was about everything bad that had happened to her. She didn't hold a grudge or harbor ill feelings about anything or towards Bert Ambrose and always loved him throughout her life. She was one amazing woman that's for sure Chris ❤
There was a rumour that like Dusty Sprinfield , Kathy was gay ... but i'm not sure whether true or not . Either way , I loved her and her glamorous looks and amazing voice . 🤍
She was manipulated by Ambrose. She was extremely fragile mentally and was therefore the classic victim. As a sixteen year-old, she was also, apparently, one of Savile’s early conquests.
Kathy was my first love, well it was her and Eartha Kitt, kitt was more sexy, and people used to tell me say “she’s ugly”I thought she was the most beutifull
