I’m not able to do what you guys do but I lost my husband 2 years ago after a short but horrendous illness so I bought a tiny van and I take myself off and have mini adventures, so good for the soul. Love that you are bringing the big adventures to us all. Stay safe and well, your happiness shines through ❤️

This video was just beautiful and, inspirational and really resonated with me. In 2018 age 65 I started feeling there should be something more to this retirement thing..so I sold all my belongings, gave up my apartment and bought a mini van to travel in...solo with just my dog!. I lived in it for a year and a half criss crossing the US..then Covid😞 I set up a sticks and bricks basecamp here in Canada and intend to head out again as soon as the weather breaks in the spring. I just turned 70 and am very fortunate to be in excellent health..but the cruel irony of aging is how quickly time passes. I think one of the reasons I love being out on the open road so much is the sense it gives you of time being suspended..actually slowing down. Perhaps it's because there are no schedules, apointments or dates to measure our fleeting days by..nothing to tether us to the illusion of time. I do think one of the gravest mistakes so many people make is they think they have 'time' and put off doing things til later or when the time is perfect..like you said Chris..well time waits for no one..and I have found it is how we spend our days now in the present time, taking chances, chasing our dreams and fulfilling our bucket list to be the key to fulfillment and happiness. It's about the experiences. These are the days of our lives and like Jack Kerouac said.."climb that God damn mountain!"

Marianne and Chris, First and foremost let us say Thank You for wonderful content and a weekly escape for me (Stan) to watch your adventures. This latest installment has hit home and I want to express my true appreciation for the message contained in it. My wife was recently diagnosed with a 5cm tumor in her pelvis and it is causing her much pain. Initial diagnosis gave a bleak outlook. We had weeks of uncertainty. Thankfully on Thursday of this last week we received some positive news that the original diagnosis may have been overly aggressive. We are certainly not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination, but things look more hopeful. Your video today was very impactful to us personally and served to reinforce our bond with each other. When and if we move beyond this we will certainly drink the champagne! There will be an expensive bottle of wine corked tonight for sure. And I'm hoping it is over Whataburger. You guys are great! Keep it up! Stan and Missy / Central Texas

    Hola guys! Very touching episode.
I'd say that fortunately, I had this approach about life from a fairly young age. So I promised to myself that I would find a way to balance my life and adapt my work to it ,and not the other way around.
It worked well so far, from about 15 year now.
And still is, now that I just turned 47.
I was not lucky enough to find a partner matching for my life style so far, that could be nice, but I can't complain.
At the moment I have so many problems with my van, and it's not so sure it'll be possible to fixed it.
So I'm temporarly stuck, altougth I live in a mountain resort in the Alps that is not bad at all, but in the waiting I'm studying a potential way to have a new Van, just in case.
    Wish me luk!
    Love from Italy!
p.s.: sorry for my broken english ;-)

I left van life and moved to Crucecita, Mexico 2 years ago. 9 bays and 36 beaches surrounded by national rainforest AND our town is powered by all renewable energy and all the water is cleaned before it is returned to the ocean. Crocodiles in the river and bio lumination tides are best seen when there is no moon AND we released more than 4 million turtles back into the ocean this year. The largest release in the world. Maybe you will take the ferry over to the mainland of Mexico and come down the coast before you head to Guatemala!!!!

Here’s my Japan tips: Kyoto: go to any shrine and do the ritual hand-washing. Find the parks and just walk around. Osaka: Osaka Castle is great, and the Aquarium is spectacular. Tip: In cities, the large grocery stores are on the basement level of big department stores.

Carpé Diem!!! I hear similar stories from so many fellow vanlifers on my travels. My own "wake up" was in 2013, when my late wife got a terminal cancer diag out of the blue unexpected. "Not going home and waiting for the grim reaper", she said. I saw our almost new motorhome on a forecourt the next day, showed it to her and off we went weekends at first and fulltime, when I took early retirement. Know what? They gave her 6 months but she lasted over 3 years travelling.... out in van 2 weeks before she finally passed away. - On my own since 2016 now, but she'll be spiritual copilot still, if I ever get back over to N America. - Oh that bubbly would NOT have lasted if my wife had got near it. Love the turtles.

Been in a hot air balloon, and lots of other exciting things. We love our holidays and weekends exploring the great outdoors. Can't sit and watch box sets. Back in the day of travel agents we were told we eat islands, hehe, cant sit still, have to see whats out there. Ice cream, has to be salted caramel, yummy. Take care. X

Wow! Profound thought provoking words, as we’re advancing in years it truly focuses the awareness on what’s truly important in this fleeting experience we call life and if we even live to 100 it’s still very brief in the grand scheme of things, sometimes this takes too long to realise that we’re all living through the sands of time and we must embrace every living moment. Safe travels🙏

That is the very reason we are, at 67 and 69, traveling a lot. Since we got married 8 years ago, second and third time in my case, we travelled every single year, sometimes twice(mostly Europe and Turkiye). We took big tours in the countries, mostly discovering the history and this year we are going to France for almost a month. I love your stories and congratulate you on your bravery. I have been following your for years. Hugs.

The one place I'd recommend if you can, is Nijo Castle in Kyoto. We spent hours there. The floors sing as you walk through it! I kid you not. The gardens were amazing and it was worth the entrance fee.

Love your vids and really looking forward to your Japan travels. Just got back from my 'bucket list' trip to Japan (I'm a cancer survivor) and loved every single second of it. Fujisan was beautiful, spent a lot of time staring at her. The Jigokudani Monkey Park (monkeys in a hot tub ) was fun but very busy, so the earlier the better. Stayed in a few traditional Ryokans which was a fab experience, tatami mat floors and futons (even with arthritis and a knackered back). Hiroshima was very moving but also a lovely chill city (head to the Okonomimura for Hiroshima style okonomiyaki). Miyajima Island is so pretty, Mount Misen (cable cars up to the top if you dont fancy the walk) and cute deer. Takayama in the alps is also a very chill city/town, quite 'olde worlde' Japan on one side of the river. Nara park and temple for the bowing deer. Sakurajima island to see the volcano (Kagoshima at the bottom of Kyushu). I didn't fancy getting naked in a public onsen but I managed to do two private ones ..... very hot, came out looking like a lobster, defo worth a go (unless blood pressure problems). So many more places I would love to see over there, may have to do a second bucket list trip but get a car next time. Thanks for the fab content and continue to enjoy your epic travels x😘

We were lucky enough to see a turtle release 28 years ago in Kenya when we were on our honeymoon, it was very special and I sometimes wonder how many survived
Take care and live the moment! Xx

Thank you so much for another gorgeous video! My favourite ice cream flavour is black currant (with a dash of crème de cassis in it)! And on my bucket list: Göbekli Tepe and all the surrounding neolithic sites and Hattusa!

It has been said before, Carpe Diem, Temps Fugit but you make an allegory that any man can understand at the gut level, fill that bucket. Good reminder that you and Marianne are practicing. Looks like the world is a village which it really is, great video.

What a beautiful video. That kitchen at that restaurant off the road, so reminded of my abuelita's "joron". That's how they call kitchens in the country side of Panama. And Marianne's story brought tears to my eyes. My mom actually died of lung cancer😥 Sorry for getting so personal. She was only 52. Life is the most precious gift that we could ever have. And living it to the fullest is not necessarily about extravagance or "having" too much of this or that. But about doing what makes you happy. Live and let live. Love, life and laughter. And making a difference in others lives for the better, even in the smallest ways. Thank you for sharing. Love, love ❤

The Hotel California is a Jail.
It was built in 1929 as a hotel which hosted many Hollywood celebrities. It then became a naval hospital and in 1962 it became a prison facility focused on drug rehabilitation, before becoming a maximum security prison for lifers.

To bad about the door on Trudy. I live in Central USA and we have winds frequently. I've had that happen a few times. It seems the hinge get bent. I place a short lumber 2X4 in tight near the hinge and push HARD on the door to close it to bend the hinge back into place. Maybe have to do it a few times until it lines up as intended.
