I think these things are amazing and I'd love to work on one and learn more about them. until now i didnt event consider using acrylic to make one! this thing is awesom man props

You can further tune the coil by applying power to the primary via a wire with alligator clip. Move it around until you get the biggest sparks. I found that less turns (and greater separation between the turns) on the primary than you have gave me better results. Also, are those metal screws in the base plastic? It is best to eliminate all metal (except the wire) from construction. My first coil did not work due to that. I found out by viewing in the dark, mini sparks everywhere to all nails!

The earth strike ring probably doesnt influence the output performance of the coil. It is just placed to prevent the high voltage from entering your primary system as it might damage the components.

I hope you realized by now, that your schematic representation for a variac is incorrect. A variac is an autotransformer; it does not have two (isolated) windings.
Besides that... Awesome, awesome coil!!! It's incredible that you used so much power with such a small coil! I am surprised I hadn't seen your coil before!

By the way, this guy is getting great results with this coil, probably due to the solid state power supply. But you can also get fantastic results going the old school way like Tesla did with a transformer (used to light neon lights), home made capacitors (using plastic and aluminum foil), and a spark gap. All very simple an potentially free except the foil.

    It's... beautiful...
So, please correct me if I am wrong, but is all of your coiling of wires is merely the creation of a transformer? Also, how did you transfer the charge to the conductive dome at the top?

The pressure of the atmosphere is a constant, but basically what you're talking about is wind power... the electricity created from a hydroelectric dam is created by upping the overall pressure, controlling the amount of water flow, and giving it a direction. After that it's just some turbines being spun by the water and some magnets converting it all to electricity. That doesn't really have anything to do with ZPE, though...

If the wire is grounded then you would feel nothing, but how much fun would that be? The idea is to show others that you can "touch" and withstand a spark shooting out several inches. Essentially, your body becomes the ground (holding onto that wrench); that's the way it works when you are dealing with high frequency high voltage. It takes a bit of time and thought to build one, but they are lots of fun to play with. And can be very cheap, almost free, if you don't use the solid state stuff.

I dont think there is any healing on antigravidy functions for the tesla coil.
My question was if it is actually used somewhere in the industry or anywhere else.
Btw I think (im not sure) that tesla coil is not actually wireless. I creates a high voltage ionizing the air and then it decreases the voltage again but it uses the ionized air as a medium to travel through
Please correct me if Im wrong

traditional tesla coil is called the Spark Gap Tesla Coil, or the SGTC. In a SGTC, there is a HV transformer of at least over or around 5000v in 30 milliamps (these transformers woud be Neon Sign Transformers), then the current form the transformer is sent to a capacitor, where the current builds up to a higher voltage and is released to any ghetto spark gap, which then is connected to the big coil (primary), which the current is wirelessly transfered to the secondary coil

  • @gussey756
    @gussey756 12 років тому

I thought that higher voltage meant longer streamers, is this right? I just thought that a 380 000 Volt transformer would generate much larger streamers than 57cm. I was also wondering what you do for work? Surely something in the field of physics, electricity or science, I was just wondering...

High voltage is still high voltage, no matter what medium carries it. It would be possible, but you'd have to have a ridiculously good insulator between the two windings (which varies the relative permeability). Besides that, the electrical properties would be pretty unpredictable with the coupling coefficient high at the bottom, low at the top, and then high and low again for the second winding. The coil inducing a current within itself such as an autotransformer would pose another variable.

I just built a coil and fired it up about 4 days ago. My secondary is 6.625" diameter and 37" tall. Top load is 6"dryer tube and total dia is 33". Using 2- 15k 30 ma nst. I am using a terry filter. And safety gap. I have mmc with capacitance of 17.3nF. I have 2 spark gaps set at .25" (total of .5"). Not air cooled. My primary is 22 turns and I'm tapped in at turn 17. I have a 4' grounding rod in the ground that is grounding everything. I have 2 problems. 1st problem, when I turn on the tesla coil the water pipe that comes into my house vibrate (it maybe the sprinkler system pipe, it runs parallel to my main water pipe). I have a sprinkler system that have pvc pipes that run all through out my yard. I have moved the grounding rod to different spot, but no change. It does seem to decrease the pipe from vibrating when I move the coil away from the house (at least 30'). 2nd problem, My arcs are only about 18". Would greatly appreciate any help. Please, any help at all.

  • @thatguy928

First, great vid and great work!
    But,
-- "tesla coil" refers to the extra coil on top of the secondary; this is a tesla transformer
-- your calc for f0, @2:41, has an extra factor 1/2
-- @2:41, you add second. and toroidal capacitances, when they are in series and should be added as resistors in parallel...
IMHO, take Eric Dollard's advice, and use an old radio capacitor to find resonant frequencies for all of your "concatenated circuits" (as Tesla wrote) and you'll have a finely tuned machine!

its about frequency response-the human nervous system does not operate at the high frequency of a tesla coil.
like we cant hear sounds a dog hears-you cant feel the output -but it will give you RF burn, which isnt a good thing
