that did well in East Asia where the larger screen size and pen made it easy to input Easy Asian text even if that first "phablet" form factor didn't do well in North America and Europe.
Apple is still right, the perfect smartphone should be reachable with a single hand. The problem is, people now use it for what it was not meant (playing games and watching videos, TV and PC were meant for that), so manufacturers have to make them bigger. Also, people perceive a larger display as better quality and tech. If you show them a 100€ 6" phone and a 500€ 4.3" one, they'll assume the 6" one is better and has better tech.
It seems the majority of users prefer the large phone, but there is still a sizeable minority that like a small pocketable phone. It sounds like from next year Apple will be fulfilling both those wishes with 5.3 inch display and 6.8 inch display options. I put myself very much in the smaller phone category, as I will use an iPad when I want a larger screen
Honestly, yeah. Some people would rather have the home button, a headphone jack, and a compact phone size. Apple is loosing those customers, who might just end up going back to using flip-phones or go the black market to get those old iPhones. Or maybe they'll trade new phones with people who rather have big ones.
iphone 6 & iphone 8 got the perfect 4,7“ display size. one handed operation is king and it fits nicely in your pocket. the pro models were waaay too huge like whyy??! im afraid too switch to some future 5.4“ screen model even labeled as ‚mini‘... lets see
The trend of getting thicker and heavier actually started on the iPhone 6s, not the X. The iPhone 7 was almost unnoticeably lighter and kept the same width so it basically shouldn’t count as the last time Apple made a smaller phone
Reachability is a feature that I always use when I have only one hand to operate, such as while in bed, so reachability is a deal breaker for me at least
6 inch screen is the perfect size. There is no going back. Battery technology needs improvement. All the other gizmos are fine but those two factors are a must for smartphones these days.
While I liked most of the video I don't feel you did justice to the pre-iPhone smartphones, they were usable and people even played games and even (gasp) sometimes watched videos on them! But they were made for a nice market, most companies were aiming their products for business users and made their devices fit what they thought the average business user wanted. What made the iPhone special was that it was not aimed at any particular market (except those who could afford it), so it was essentially a computer that could also make calls, it was an all singing all dancing computer in your pocket that was for anyone. I cannot deny though how the iPhone changed the smartphone market for the better, making it accessible for millions, and lets not forget Android users like myself too!
I upgraded from the SE, and believe me I love my iPhone 11 Pro! All day battery life is amazing like genuinely can’t believe I was using an SE. also the screen is soooo awesome because it’s OLED and even tho I use it two handed it’s not a big deal. I can use it one handed too but it really doesn’t matter
Went from 6s to 11 pro. This thing is giant in comparison. My girls 11 pro max is just insane. I preferred the feel of the 6s in hand but I’ll sacrifice for this crazy good battery. I’m getting no lie 16-19 hours screen on time on a single charge with around 13-18% left. I have tried killing it but I’ll fall asleep before this thing dies. My girl charges her phone once every 3 days. I use much more but still it’s impressive
I still have a dead iPhone 5 and a blackberry, it’s so small in my hand, and I’m not even a big person, and I realized that smartphone back then is that small. And for me the size like iPhone 11 or the pro model is just fit, for browsing, typing or watching movies
You should explain why the iPhone camera from the XS to the newest 11 / 11 Max camera reflection / glare / flare problem. No big tech UA-camd are willing to cover this issue.
I think there could be one more reason why people is not complaining about the weight, not really because they think it is a trade off but rather they think, psychologically, the iPhone weight matches the price the pay for. It makes them FEEL it. if you know what I mean. Similar to the branding power.
Small screens aren’t senior friendly. Although complicated usage isn’t senior friendly either. I think it’s also have to do with the use of video viewing on the go. They’re trying to turn phones into a handheld computer/camera/tv/health monitor, etc.... Phones aren’t no longer just “phones”
My first iPhone shaped the way all the most iPhones are today. My iPhone fixed a major issue from the year before. My iPhone lives a better life now wherever it is. I owned an iPhone 6S Plus. I now own an iPhone 8 Plus since 2018 because I dropped my iPhone 6S Plus in water Rest In Peace iPhone 6S Plus
I think there are some restraints for companies about what customers can tolerate about size and thickness of their smartphones. The phones in the future must not be definitely too much thick or big for customer. I dont understand why certain companies put on market their folding smartphones ? So somebody can purchase himself a device that is big like 15 000 MaH powerbank or even bigger ? That is very uncomfortable for many users and i dont really understand this kind of new trend :)
I miss the (G)olden days when Palm devices were the pocket computers for business people and regular people worried about being reachable if they bought a tiny little Nokia brick. Mails were to be viewed the next day at work and the computer at home (if there was one) was used by the whole family to play Solitaire, mine sweeper, tetris... And mom nagged because she had to use the land line to call someone because using the Nokia dad eventually surprised her with was too expensive.
It’s really not that surprising that we would choose to have a tiny bit thicker/heavier phone for battery life. Once a phone (or anything imo) chooses aesthetic over function, it starts going downhill with the compromises it must make. Some would argue it was unnecessary to to make it as thin as they did when they got rid of the headphone jack too. I wouldn’t even mind if the next iPhones kept getting thicker (a little bit) if it resulted in a powerhouse with lots of battery life.
Wow. Great video bro. I actually like this being explained and kinda already knew why Apple went the way did with their phones. But I still like Samsung and Motorola more with phones. Imo. Overall great video
They need to stop it.. my first BIG phone was the note2. I thought it was great but the novelty wore off after a few months. I went to the s4 and had a couple other 5"ers until I got the 2016 se. I loved that thing and never wanted another big phone again. I held onto it for four years but eventually needed an upgrade so I went for the 2020 se. It still feels huge after a month but I know I'll get used to it. Regardless, I'd rather still have a 4". Don't think I don't use it much.. I use the hell out of my phones but I still want them to be comfortable in the pocket and ACTUALLY usable with one hand.. I see all these reviewers awkwardly stretching across the screen and saying "oh yeah, I can use it one handed!" Lol. Bullshit. Try answering a text while you're walking down the street on a 5+" device. Awkward, ain't it? I'm not into bezel-less either. They look good but just ain't comfortable to use. I use friends monstrous, all screen devices all the time and I'll take my "dated" iPhone any day. My phone isn't a fashion statement.
It's ironic because I think the 2016 iphone se looks far better than these new iphones that just look like a glorified tablet. I really like looking at the bezels and the home button. It's very aesthetic.
@@jseden It would be amazing if they just upgraded the camera, cpu, ram on the old iphone se and sold it in 2022. I've been really happy with my iphone 2020 because I find the 4.7 inch screen to be the happy medium of a larger screen while still being able to hold it but I'd be really tempted to grab an upgraded 1st gen iphone se if they beefed up the internals. I would hold onto that iphone se as long as you can because I have a feeling one day it will be worth more money. The main reason I even went with the newer iphone se was just because I liked the better camera on the 2nd gen se but in all honesty, it's not that much of an upgrade.
@@crate2819 i intend to hang onto it. I had to upgrade because the battery was absolutely shot and the 16gb wasn't cutting it anymore... Especially when you need several gigs for a significant upgrade. However i always used a case and screen protector so it's still in 9/10 condition. Yea the 2nd gen has a better camera but I really didn't feel like It was that much of an upgrade... Mounting it to my motorcycles destroyed the ois anyway. I've got hella shaky cam now, somewhat remedied by a small magnet but it's far from perfect. I'm torn between getting it fixed and just getting a 12 mini now.
Fact:. Making large displays is a challange, they need to get rid of bezels and make phone bigger in dimensions that is usable and aesthetic. Also biggger display requires more pixel because pixel density stays same(Otherwise would look bad) and more pixel uses more battery and more pixels processed for processing units

that did well in East Asia where the larger screen size and pen made it easy to input Easy Asian text even if that first "phablet" form factor didn't do well in North America and Europe.
They also started the thinner bezels and holes trends.
I use the reachability feature on a daily base.
The iPhone 11 is giving me hand cramps as I type this. I miss the days of my light, pocket-sized 5s.
They do mind about the heavy and bulky iPhone. Glad to see iPhone 12 mini is coming.
I personally don’t like phones with screens over 5 inches. Btw your transition into ads are mad smooth
Apple should again bring a new series with return of home button and, being the thinnest and lightest
Honestly, yeah. Some people would rather have the home button, a headphone jack, and a compact phone size. Apple is loosing those customers, who might just end up going back to using flip-phones or go the black market to get those old iPhones. Or maybe they'll trade new phones with people who rather have big ones.
@@Adven4U1 Exactly bro
That transition into this video’s sponsor was genius. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Welcome back from a long rest. Have been missing you videos.. 👌
iphone 6 & iphone 8 got the perfect 4,7“ display size. one handed operation is king and it fits nicely in your pocket.
the pro models were waaay too huge like whyy??!
im afraid too switch to some future 5.4“ screen model even labeled as ‚mini‘...
lets see
Simple answer people have gone for this Trend
BIGGER IS BETTER 😂
We're talking about displays right... Right? 😂
Remember the iPhone 4 days ppl though the iPhone 5,6,7,8 and so on will just be a taller and taller iPhone 4?! Memories!!😂
Johnny Wynn lmao ‘tallest iPhone ever’
Because more people like big phones over small phone!
The size of the iPhone footprint hasn't changed since the iPhone 6 Plus.Which was like 5 years ago. Just thought i'd throw that out there.
Watching this comfortably on the iPhone 13 mini, not missing the larger 6.1 or 6.7" screens I've had...😌
I’m just glad that I was able to cop an iphone 12 mini a couple of years ago cuz you they don’t sell new iphone minis anymore.
Used iPhone 1 in the early days of iPhone, man it was weird times. When iPhone 4 came out it felt like the biggest thing ever
This answered my question and he did it well, great job!
On a good note, as long as it’s under 7 inches, a bigger screen might be helpful for photos or portable movie viewing.
I still have a dead iPhone 5 and a blackberry, it’s so small in my hand, and I’m not even a big person, and I realized that smartphone back then is that small.
And for me the size like iPhone 11 or the pro model is just fit, for browsing, typing or watching movies
To not let it fits in your pocket
You should explain why the iPhone camera from the XS to the newest 11 / 11 Max camera reflection / glare / flare problem. No big tech UA-camd are willing to cover this issue.
That sponsor transition was smooth as ice
2007:These are THICC
Future: its like paper
I use Reachability on my X S Max which I had from Oct 2018 - Nov 2019 & 11 Pro Max since Nov 2019
2030 be like: The First iPhone was Like the Cybertruck, it may have been different at first but then it became a standard
This is why I so much love technology!
I think there could be one more reason why people is not complaining about the weight, not really because they think it is a trade off but rather they think, psychologically, the iPhone weight matches the price the pay for. It makes them FEEL it. if you know what I mean. Similar to the branding power.
4:37 👽 alien right there
Apple changed its competitor from the Samsung S3 to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and grew to compete. It has been chasing the Note ever since.
I remember when the main feature of a phone was its battery life.
Like: yeah, my phone lasts 3 days without charging!
Funny thing. I had a Nokia 3 so I was used to a small screen. Bought a 128 gig SE3 it it fits perfectly in the little pocket on my centre console.
My first iPhone shaped the way all the most iPhones are today. My iPhone fixed a major issue from the year before. My iPhone lives a better life now wherever it is. I owned an iPhone 6S Plus. I now own an iPhone 8 Plus since 2018 because I dropped my iPhone 6S Plus in water
Rest In Peace iPhone 6S Plus
Video is little out of topic, many things you already covered in previous videos.
Reachability is a must
Apple was so dumb back then now they like smaarrt
@@crate2819 totally agree. I was actually looking at and handling my old se the other day thinking "damn this really is an awesome phone"
Apple in 2016: We just put a 4 inch display
Me: Why didn't you just make the bezels smaller?
Apple in 2017: *Introduces the notch*
hey, have you heard about the OQO model 01? yea, that thing is way better than the phones from the year it relased
