My opinion is that Mr Ramey is one the greatest basses of the century! A great artist ,an incredible singer with one of the most beautiful voices and technic!👏👏👏👏👏 SPECTACULAR!
Thanks for posting this! I heard him at the MET in Semiramide (it should have been called “Sammy-Ramey-Day” -which after hearing him, I named my cat)! His technique-flawless, a beautiful large warm timbre and such intonation to his coloratura! Didn’t hurt the eyes either!!
Sadly, he really doesn't. Michele Pertusi can handle the coloratura, but his voice is not the equal of Ramey's. I don't know of any other basses who have Ramey's beauty of vocal tone, flexibility and agility, range, and versatility.
I am sorry that in my working life as a musician I was not told about Samuel Ramey, ans I was working in the opera. But now I can listen to his recordings with pleasure…thank you!
I saw Ramey so many times in so many roles. Always amazing. I am currently reading his biography, and he mentioned this scene in detail, primarily because of the wild staging where he steps on top of the muscle guys!
I saw this production at the Met with both of them! I left saying it should have been called “Sammy-Ramey-Day”😊 Which is also what I named my adopted Maine Coon cat (after I learned Semiramide was a “tom”🤣)

What aheartwarming story! I adored him. Especially in Verdi's Attila. None better.
In modern times Ramey has no rivals in music like this.

this guy is absolutely amazing! I'm feeling sad for not having known him earlier.
Grandissima interpretazione!
