Just bought the 2016 Headset and the separate remote. They are about $40 total now. $25 headset/ $15 remote. Super cheap way to get into VR, if you already have the phone... Spent all weekend playing around. Great review. Thanks.

I have one and its godamn good man. Its better than most mid and high end phones that are around in 2020. Here in Brazil, where people keep buying shitty cheap Motorolas and xiaomis it really makes a difference. Same price as a moto g9 plus and infinitely better

Also, the gear VR remote is only $17 on amazon. I purchased the 2016 gear, which other than the front cover being shiny on the newer one, is absolutely identical to the 2017 Gear VR. I then purchased the remote separately, and saved myself over $70, and it works exactly like the 2017 model. There truly is no difference, and you save a good chunk of money.

You need to move the connection to B when you use the smaller phone to get it in the middle of the lenses. Don't worry it took me months to find so you are not alone.

The galaxy s8 and s9 fit perfectly without needing to push it in perfectly. The usb c connector has position A and B. One is for the + models and the other is for the regular ones.

TK Bay I had to say something because I scared myself half to death when the spring... finger... thing... the one that doesn't have the usb c on it, landed on my phone instead of over it. It hit hard and thought it might have cracked my phone. I got lucky and wanted to make sure others didn't do the same.

Are you sure you put in the S9 properly? The Gear VR has two spacing, position A for large phones like the S9+ and Note 8, and a position B for smaller phones, which I'm pretty sure is supposed to be used with the S9.

The A/B setting on the front of the headset is supposed to be set to B for the smaller S9, and set to A for the larger S9+. That's why you think you had to guide the locking mechanism into place, for the S9, because you had it on the wrong setting. Changing that setting moves the connector closet on the B setting. They aren't "channels" as you referred to them, but rather adjustments to fit the size of the phone you're using.

This is certainly important to know. Otherwise, the Gear VR doesn't work correctly with an S9. The guy on the video should've inserted the S9 correctly.

Excellent vid!.. I have a S6 with the first production run of the gear VR. I've have used to have problems with the phone overheating during use and shutting down. I ended up solving this with a 3rd party fan attachment. I'm considering upgrading to the S9+ and am wondering if the overheating issue has been solved. Have you had any overheating issues with the S9+?
Overheating has been solved but it still gets a bit warm. But 45 mintue to an hour no issues for me.

with the normal s9 you actually need to move the connector to the other position to center the phone correctly over the lenses. the s9+ needs the larger area though so a little thing to watch out for
Yes that is true we need to do that
the gear vr is great as it is, but it needs a major upgrade to compete with the daydream 2, and the self-functioning headsets to come. i think samsung should make the next gear vr smaller, lighter, have little to no software issues (motion blur, drifting, etc.) and with bigger lenses. everything else is perfect.
I hope they do that for the next one.

only charging, not data transfer during usage as your phone does not prompt you to select file transfer or any other mode

the Samsung software will allow to record the video, but you have to start it up evertime you go into a game or app

The quality is the same for both when in VR , I tried them and did not see a night and day difference, I would say because of the view finder you get the same field of view

Most VR is AMOLED lcd is not used for VR in general.

I find the oculus browser that comes with the oculus app way better than the samsung vr browser. Text looks sharper and video playback runs smoothly. Accesing tabs and resetting the view is also simpler on the oculus browser. It just works better in every aspect.

I don't know how you got it to work but when I used my friend's s9+ into my Gear VR 323 it appears that it recognized it as an Oculus Go and I was only able to browse apps but there was no "taskbar" where the Library, Store and the other tabs were. Whenever I was trying to choose an app it would say I should calibrate my Oculus Go first. Also, on the right side I could see some mirroring of the phone's display.
Does it work with a thin-ish case on the phone? Also, does the remote vibrate when you hover over something
any case on the phone will either make it not not fit or create a light gap. I recommend no cases

How come there are not any two controllers to play yet? Some vr flying plane games can't play, because the hand controller point icon is not showing on the screen to work the plane controllers.
Not sure , but they are not making this unit anymore it seems as well.so the likely hood of a dual controller might now happen on this system
What's the SM-R323 Gear VR version like with the Samsung S9 in terms of battery life, does it drain fast and if so, how long can you really play on the headset before the device either overheats or shuts off?
The battery drains is faster as the display was on for a longer time. But you can charge it at the same time.

right now only facebook is listed they might have more coming in the future, and screen recording is limited to certain apps ATM
I got the note 8 version of the gear VR, when the note 9 comes out it will be compatible but these ones in the video won't because the note 8 doesn't fit in the S8 model.
It's a tight fit but it works. I have tested it but if you have the note 8 version got you covered for sure

all gear VR setup require us to take the cases out, as they don't allow the phone to sit well in the gear vr

How is the screen door effect? I use the note 5 on mine and its pretty bad. Does it look any better?
the S9 is pretty much like the note 5 the S9= covers everything

this is not an oculus so for 89 dollars I would say the games are 5/10 watching movies I would say 7/10 experience.
I tried the older model with my s7 edge model and it made my battery drain like crazy even after I took off the vr. I'm kinda sceptical about trying this newer model with my s9 plus but if you guys know anything about this plz let me know👌👍
the hardware does not affect how the phone battery will drain thats software. make sure you update the latest version of the app first
Same here my s7 overheated and drained..it should be fixed with the new one tough.

Hello, can i connect with PC using USB-C or other connectors? My main goal is play PC games with Gear VR without internet.
This system does not work with a pc. It's made to be mobile and only works with the oculus store.

i heard that the resolution of the image is pretty bad and some people develop some eye problem after watching at it for some time....so i rather wait for the new oculus and see if it's any better, because the image quality is the decisive factor for me

@@TKBay next gen? But that would mean next gen handsets would have to get better resolution. Next step up is 4k which is just not practicable for handsets

Has anyone noticed any issues using the Gear VR with the S9 or S9+ as far as battery drain or phone overheating? This was a huge problem with the S7 and S7 Edge. Batter drains in like an hour of use, and phone kept overheating. Hoping they aren't having the same issue with the S9's.
They get warm but not super hot. For gaming it will be warmer for. Movie watching no so much. As you have to much power draw.

Samsung recommends you buy the newer Gear VR every year. I mention that its a tight fit but not enough to break your phone. I say if you have an older one try it before you spend $100 on a new one
