Quick shout-out: "Anya's Firsts" is still on 1x7 and still getting on her feet, but she makes great content and really reminds of Major as someone who just "gets it" the first time they see a scene. If you enjoy Major, she's worth checking out!

The series don't talk about the Stark's direwolfs that much, but i think it's cool for you to know that they kinda have the same personality as their owners.
Robb and Greywind - Both very good in battle, fearsome and ruthless when they have to be.
Sansa and Lady - Lady was the smaller, gentler and cleverer of the wolfs. Sansa didn't even need to train her, it was like Lady already knew. She was innocent but she died for it. That was the death of innocence for Sansa as well.
Arya and Nymeria - Both reckless. Arya tried to train Nymeria, but she didn't care much. She obeyed when she wanted to. And now, both are alone, separated from their siblings trying to survive by theirselfs.
Bran and Summer - The bond between them is the strongest of all. They are protective af of each other. Bran gave him this name after he woke up from the coma. He had a dream that he saw an endless winter and a horror so big that it make him scream, when he opened his eyes, he saw the eyes of the wolf. Thus, summer, which is the death of winter.
Rickon and Shaggydog - Don't be mistake by the cute name, Shaggydog is a straight savage. Even the other wolfs fear him. But he looks up to Summer, seeing him as his alfa. Just like Rickon looks up to Bran. And, although Rickon is very young (4 in the books, 7 in the show) he already show signs of savagery.
Jon Snow and Ghost - Both outcast. Ghost likes to be alone, when all of them were still playing together, ghost didn't participate. Now, as adult, Ghost likes to hunt by himself, he adventures for weeks alone but always come back. That's why Jon is separated from him right now. Before Jon got taken by the wildlings, ghost was hunting. But when the Night's Watch had that battle with the White Walkers, he came to fight with them. Also, Ghost is mute, he never made a sound. He never growled, howled or anything, even when he walks he is quiet, thus the name.
i talk to much, sorry hehe

    • @darth856
      @darth856 2 роки тому +12

Unfortunately Ghost being mute didn't work too well when they were filming, so they dropped that for the show. It was the scene where they were intimidating Rast, and they found that Ghost being silent didn't achieve the right effect. So he will bark and growl in the show.

That scene of Catelyn telling Talissa about Jon Snow catching pox is one of the best dialogue moments of the show. It's almost up there with the Cersei Robert marriage conversation from the first season. It starts off as something random but then suddenly the tempo changes and the subject matter gets heavy. It hits you from nowhere too cause you expect Cat to name anyone but Jon.

  • @CaptainPikeachu
    @CaptainPikeachu 2 роки тому +29

I think Catelyn's situations needs to be taken into the context of her world/society. Her problem was not that Ned had a bastard child, many people have bastards and she would have understood that, the problem was that Ned brought Jon home and insisted on raising Jon among his true-born children. That in itself is practically an insult to Catelyn, whether Ned intended it or not, that's how other people would have seen it as, and that's how Catelyn would have felt. Most noble lords send their bastard kids to be fostered in another person's household, Catelyn would have never had a problem if Ned had done that, but Ned insisted on keeping Jon at Winterfell, and every single day would have been Catelyn faced with the fact that her husband was not only adulterous but he also did not respect her to keep his shame away. And she might have grown to love Ned very much but it still would have hurt. Especially when Ned is going against the customs of their society. And there's also the added concern that bastards are considered in their society to be treacherous, and there's always stories about bastards killing the true-born children to take their claim to some inheritance, so the fact that Jon lives in Winterfell with Ned and Catelyn's true-born children would have been an extra concern for Catelyn. Because what if Jon decided one day that he wanted Winterfell for himself? What if he accidentally injured Robb or Bran or Rickon so that he would be the heir. So Catelyn's concerns are more than just anger or jealousy, but it's also colored by worry about the safety of her children.
But even with all of that, Catelyn's treatment of Jon is incredibly tame by the standards of their society. She ignored him, didn't treat him like her child (which he isn't so she isn't obligated to be his mother), and at worst told him to "leave", but a lady in another house might have actually actively tried to remove him or get him killed. Catelyn simply wanted Jon to go away and that's quite frankly not the worst thing she could have wanted at the end of the day. Catelyn's actions seem bad to our standards, but her actions in comparisons to the standards of her society is actually far better than what most people would have done.

Yeah if anything she did react in a much nicer way that most highborn ladies would have done in her place... I swear Catelyn is a too misunderstood character in this fandom, they always talk about her without considering her role in the society of westeros (she is a true lady, who accepted her role into society and tried to live and do her best with it; not a rebellious type like Arya, Daenerys, Cersei etc etc but that doesn't make her weaker by ANY means) she always been among my favorite pov characters in the books

For Catelyn, I don’t even feel like it’s the fact she got cheated on. I think this is mentioned in the books like, a guy, maybe even a guy as honorable as Ned, knocking someone up while off at war is really not that uncommon, or even insulting. But bringing that child back home does more than just make Cat jealous. It threatens the inheritance of her own children, and more to the point it publicly shames her. It’s like... idk, like the modern equivalent might be bringing your side chick to family dinner lol, like it’s just rubbing it in and insulting her honor every day. I’m not saying she was right to treat him that way of course, but I feel like it’s not just jealous rage driving her behavior.

Margery learned her skill of adapting to all her environments from her grandmother by catering to whomever she tries to win over. Which is why they were asking about Jeoffry earlier. She’s an expert!
The Ironborn gave Theon up to Bolton’s bastard when they got to Winterfell to take it back because Rob made that deal that he’d let them all go if he got Theon from them. That’s who’s torchering Theon.
The whole Lady Stark thing is one that the fandom are divided on. Some ppl hate her for the way she’s treated Jon and other sympathize with her for why she hated him. I think ppl should take into account that the story takes place in a different time where bastards are treated very poorly and most don’t get to come and live with their fathers among his other children. That’s what Cat was so sore about. Ned brought his bastard home with him and was already settled in at Winterfell before she got back from her fathers castle with her and neds child.

Another great reaction. Nanny Tyrell is a straight savage, the female Tywin. Can you imagine them meeting? The Tyrells were fishing for information from Sansa, so Margery would know how to manipulate him, and she does it so well. She really knows how to play the Game.
As for Catelyn, you’re right to be 50/50 about her, the way she treated Jon was terrible, plus she doesn’t seem to make the best decisions, she kidnapped Tyrion, helping to ignite a war, she freed their trump card Jaime, which didn’t help Robb’s war effort. She should have stayed in Winterfell.
And you were spot on regarding the farmer that snitched,, Brienne should have killed him, or at least restrained him somehow. No good deed goes unpunished, especially in this show.

  • @melkor3496
    @melkor3496 2 роки тому +7

In the books the Jaime vs Brienne fight on the bridge was much more intense with Jamie cutting Brienne a few times she took some damage. In the books Brienne later admits no one could beat Jamie when he is at his best by that I think they mean when he is in great shape not starved and weary etc.
So the show kinda made the bridge fight a bit anti climactic compared to the book where even a tired and starved Jaime did a lot of damage to Brienne compared to here and Brienne was amazed at how quick and just talented Jaime is. She only beat him because of his lack of strength he grew tired fast.
Just a bit of random fact I felt the need to include which I wish the show followed here to really show how fucking OP of a swordsman Jaime really is.
If the show was almost exactly like the books than Jaime and Ser Barristan Selmy would be OP in the show. lol

    "Evil!"
    "Oh, damn..."
    "Nah, you evil."
    "Woooooowww"
This is perfect. This is the heart in conflict. The only thing worth writing about 😉
Clarification on her wishes though: she wished him dead first, then he got the pox, then she prayed for his health, and failed to love him.
(In the books we get her point of view/mental state: she's not mad that Ned cheated, she thinks that's perfectly fine. The taboo and the hate comes from Ned bringing John to court to raise as his own (claiming a bastard was the big taboo, think Tudor times.) and being there before Catelyn and Rob her first born even got back from RiverRun where she birthed him (safest place during Robert Baratheon's rebellion) )

In the books, all the Starks have warging abilities. It comes from their blood, as they're descended from the First Men, the same race that lives beyond the Wall. In fact, Ned Stark had plans in place to bring the Wildlings south of the Wall and settle them on lands called 'The Gift'.
Unfortunately, no-one knew about these plans, but its one of the reasons why Ned didn't want to go to King's Landing. He knew winter was coming. He was thinking about how to approach the Night's Watch about letting the Wildlings through.

I'm glad you see thru Catelyn and see how horrible she really is. So many people talk about how she's a "strong woman" and all that but she's actually horrible. After you're done, there's a channel called "order of the green hand" and they do a 4 part series on how terrible Cat is. You and everyone else should go watch it when you're done.
Also, in the books certain things happened differently. For example, in the books Ned was going to refuse Robert as being hand and she talked him into it, not the other way around like the show did it. In the books when Jon is saying Goodbye to Bran, Cat says "it should have been you (who fell)" the show also left that out.. But you see how bad she is despite that lol.

Frick yeah! Welcome back! So looking forward to these through the week! Hope you are well!
So glad that they are finally progressing with Bran’s storyline (which to me is one of the most confusing in the entire series/books) and yeah his age up was something quickkkk.
They introduce a new house to us (probably mentioned thru the show so far) House Reed-the most Loyal banner men of House Stark. Jojen & Meera Reed’s father is Howland who was one of Neds BFF’s. Their lands are the furthest south in the north and control the majority of the Neck and Moat Cailin (Robb passed thru here when he agreed to marry the Frey girl--old creepy guy)
Something to remember, Bastards (illegitimate children from Royal Houses) from the North’s last name is “Snow”, bastards from the Riverlands are “River” Bastards from Dorne are “Sand”etc etc.
Lady Olenna and house Tyrell….Lady Olenna an OG! Don’t give no fucks about anything but her house. Sweet little old lady who got some thorns on her old hide. She’s amazing. Their house is one of my favorites. They control the majority of food that’s supplied to the entirety of Westeros. Lannisters want them for their coin, as they are in massive amounts of debt to the Iron Bank of Braavos in Essos. They want the Lannisters because they are the most in control of the Iron Throne.
Sansa’s smart to keep her mouth shut, and it was completely stupid to say anything like that, but, yeah. I agree with you.
It’s alluded in the books that the Stark Children have “wolf dreams” and can see through the eyes of their Direwolves. In this episode Osha in the scene with Bran asked if he was “seeing through his wolf” again in the dream when he starts talking about the three eyes raven. They have the blood of the First Men that supposedly could do it. Nothing confirmed but even in the scene with Robb and Grey Wind when they enter the cell of imprisoned Jaime Grey Wind flexes up on Jamie in a way that Robb can’t. When Bran wakes up from being pushed from the tower that crippled him the dream he was having was what was happening through the eyes of his wolf, Summer.
The Fist of the First Men is an ancient ring fort in the wilderness beyond the wall that the Nights Watch use to orient themselves in the wilds of the True North. The First Men made it and Used it in the war of the First Men against the Andals when they invaded Westeros.
Thoros of Myr (Thoros of Myr helped Robert Baratheon siege the castle when they took Theon from The Iron Island and was the first one before Jorah Mormont which you saw in the histories and lore video) are finally introduced. They call themselves the “Brotherhood without Banners”
Margaery is a master manipulator. She knows how to play people and yeah with the info Sansa gave her about Joffrey she’s using it to put herself in power for the Tyrells. They call her “The Rose” of Highgarden. She isn’t to be fucked with.

43:45 You're not saying anything Catelyn doesn't know. That was the whole point of the scene. She knows Jon is blameless, but she can't stop herself from acting how she does in spite of that, and she's angry with herself for it.

Jojen and Meera's dad is Lord Howland Reed, the head of House Reed, who are bannermen of House Stark. He's Ned's other closest bro besides Robert Baratheon and he pretty much fought alongside Ned all throughout Robert's Rebellion. He's not been mentioned much, if at all, but he was close enough to Ned that he's now the only person alive who knows for a fact who Jon Snow's mother is because he was with Ned throughout the whole campaign, but he honored Ned's wishes and kept his mouth shut for 20 years. House Reed are kind of loners and their lands are swampy and they mostly keep to themselves, so pretty much nobody cares on whose side they are and they get left alone and unbothered by all the crap currently going on in the Seven Kingdoms.
As for Cat's hatred of Jon Snow, in the books it's made clear that one of the big reasons she resents him so much is that all her kids take after her and look a lot like members of House Tully except for Arya who is said to resemble Ned's late sister Lyanna a lot. Jon, however, is said to look quite a bit like Ned, so Cat hates that of all of Ned's sons it's the bastard, the one boy who is not her own son, who actually looks like him. Jon and Arya's relationship kind of also mirrors Ned and Lyanna's own relationship since they not only resemble the previous generation of Starks physically but also regarding their personalities. Arya is a lot like Lyanna and Jon is a probably the most like Ned. Robb, Ned's actual heir, is shown to make a conscious effort to be like him and honor his teachings and legacy, but Jon just kind of naturally acts like Ned in any case.

About Sam: the dude has lived a life with Randyll Tarly as his father. One of his parents, the one who was supposed to be his male role model, taught him non-stop that he was a useless animal, even threathening to murder him at some point.
At the Wall, he then started feeling as if things were going to be different, but being left by his friends to die and basically being called useless by his surrogate father, Jeor Mormont, for not being there to send the ravens, that killed him inside. It brought back the trauma and made him feel as if he would never escape what he was. Therefore the "I forbid you to die"-line was so powerfull, as if Mormont felt right what to say. He made it clear that it DID matter that he would live.... It's then that Sam starts walking again.

How Catelyn treated Jon is her biggest flaw. And we see in this episode she is aware she was wrong to treat him that way and feels great shame how she acted. Capturing Tyrion and releasing Jaime were rash, emotional, stupid choices, but we can understand the desperation. Catelyn believes in her faith/religion, so when her promise to give Jon a true name is broken, she sees she has also 'sinned', so she sees everything bad happening as a punishment from the gods.

  • @ancatdal

Love the scene between Joffrey and Margaery, you really see how delicately she is able to play him. She is a proper lady, submissive to him, always asking permission, "do you think I could?", giving Joffrey an illusion of complete control. She shows just a tantalising hint of a cruel streak, just a drop, making Joffrey feel that connection between them, but still making him feel like he is the expert, he can introduce her into a world of having control over life and death, absolute power over others. But she is clearly the more intelligent of the two, she is the one who understands him and knows how to play him. It's a dangerous game, but she does it so well! I don't get the impression that she is playing for more than getting him to like her, but that is also absolutely essential given that he is a monster. She needs him to like her to survive and avoid abuse herself.

  • @blackeyedlily

The Brotherhood without Banners is a Robin Hood type of organization. Several characters of the group, especially in the books, take some inspiration from Robin Hood’s merry band of men. As far as Catelyn’s issues with Jon, one thing she talks about with Rob in the books is the threat that bastard children could cause in this world. There were two Targaryen civil wars during their reign as rulers of Westeros. The second one, not the one being covered in the upcoming television series, was called the Blackfyre Rebellion. And the root cause of this civil war had to do with the legitimization of a bunch of the Targaryen king’s bastards. Once the king died, his only true born heir was not a warrior. But one of his legitimized bastards was. And due to a whole bunch of complicated issues, he decided to challenge the king for the throne. And he had the backing of quite a few lords because he was a warrior type who they respected more then the true king. The World of Ice and Fire book, that many people are recommending to you, goes into this second Targaryen civil war a little bit. If George RR Martin gets around to finishing the second volume of Fire and Blood it will cover this time period in detail. I’m really hoping that they will eventually do a show about this time period as well. From the materials he has already developed there are a bunch of really cool characters from this time period. And Catelyn gives Rob a big lecture about it in the books.
