I got cable and laptop with e-sys, it's really easy to add/change features, the hardest part to download and make sure software is working properly but now I can change everything, scan car for errors, upgrade maps and more...and it's all free(10-20$ for cable only)
The majority of these things BMW don't offer in the first place as encourages people away from buying the more expensive models, but yeah, to have BMW code these options retrospectively, or when you order the car can cost a lot!

Boosted Autos Turns out the ARTTI system in my 20114 model F30 cannot be hacked/coded. I can say that Bimmertech customer service was very good as they tried over several months to resolve the issue.
There is more risk if you're actually writing a new string to program to the ECU rather than just switching pre-defined parameters. So I do see what you're saying. :)
unless you use the official BMW software , anything you plug in, leaves a trail, if your car is under w'tee (or not) then if you break something, BMW will chrage you OR invalidate your w'tee

BMW have to prove that the modification caused the failure for it to void warranty. For example, if your gearbox breaks, it's still going to be covered.
I don't know where you're from but that's not the case in Australia. For warranty to be void across every system in the entire car, they would have to prove that whatever modification you have done has caused the failure. They can't say your headlight globes failed becasue you coded your iDrive system, etc.

8:25 FYI. The gauges aren not limited to M cars. The last courtesy vehicles I've had, 116i, X1 x20d and X3 20d all had gaguges.

No not every time. O lot when the system has gone in to deep sleep. Mine generally only showed up if the car had been left for more than 2 days.

Yes you will need to also purchase the Video in Motion or the video playback will be disabled as soon as the car is moving.

It would be a hardware retrofit as it requires additional hardware to make DAB+ work.

I thought that coding was just changing parameters. It's programming that can brick - ie the "tunes", no?
Any time you change parameters, you're writing information back to the ECU which is "programming".
It's not quite the same - at least not according to the coding sites.

For any modification to void warranty, the manufacturer has to be able to prove that the modification caused or contributed to the problem.
