“Sure it has faux parts” faux parts are something I don’t understand the hatred for, like I get the want for vehicle mode parts in robot mode to actually be the same parts in vehicle mode, but sometimes the robot character designs and proportions of the robot mode make the real vehicle mode parts be at least slightly off, especially the more stylized the design. Although this is just my take, to each their own.
This figure is really a damn shame for me. As someone who grew up with the bay films and the 2009 Leader Optimus, Thunder Leader was the OP of my dreams. I’m not even bothered by the masochistically complex transformation, as I enjoy a challenge. And hell, I’ll even put up with shitty plastic if I have to. But mix the two together and it’s a recipe for disaster and disappointment. Even then, for sheer nostalgia value alone, he might have been worth the original price tag. The aftermarket prices though? Absolutely fucking not. $300-500 USD is way too much for this bastard.
I got him to go with Unique Toys Dragoon and man it makes me wish Unique Toys gave the 2007 design a shot after Galvatron after the black magic they pulled with Optimus, Megatron, and Galvatron. Thanks for this review! saw him going for 130-140 ish but in the end I skipped. This looks way too over-engineered for me. I wanted a kind of centerpiece for my collection and I ended up getting a ko of MPM4 for about 60 bucks. (Every version of the Rotf leader I saw went for insane prices Jesus-) In the end I’m happy with what I got, figure is sturdy and it has issues but in the end I find the transformation pretty fun (outside of some tabbing issues on the front but once you do it a few times it all resolved itself) Like you said with the Rotf leader, it’s right on the edge of being too complicated but is still very fun. For me at least. Ko is XP-14 btw. Such a shame they went so far into accuracy they ruined the entire thing… I’ll never get it but I’m curious how the MM version will turn out, especially considering they’re literally ripping off 3-A Cheers❤!
There _is_ actually a 3P Bay trilogy Optimus coming out (or has already come out by the time of this comment, Im honestly not 100% sure-) in the _Legends_ scale, by BaiLan Toys, their BLT sandwich 01 _"Roadmaster"_ and it's actually pretty impressive for it's size. @@DrLockdown bit later than we'd have liked, but it's something ;w; _to be fair, I think it took around the same time for us to finally get A MP-style triple changing Shatter, and eventually a Dropkick-_
I actually have the mpm mold and it’s actually not bad there’s just some design elements that lower it a bit . Like the feet are relatively the same from the 2009 design but the hands are just too small in my opinion and also my has a defect where the piece is reversed from the correctly formed position making it Impossible for the front to be completely flush but I still love the figure for what it is.
Dr lockdown after seeing this video while i did disagree at first with that reveal the shield prime (did meant the mold degradation itself which is why it sucks since the original one and its repaits and slight remolds are better than that) i can see why you hate this figure and i agree. Even the oversized one sucks as it looks wonky and the chest is fixed but is pretty boney. To put creativity on the line i would've put a good spine on this to make it as screen accurate as possible, better plastic WHICH THIS STINKING THING DOESN'T HAVE, less overly complicated transformation, fun to handle like the first two leader class and articulation similiar to SS32

I disagree in the materials department, I think they are fine, but you are right about that transformation, never liked the rotf leader prime conversion, and this figure just makes it worst, and it is uglier then that leader class figure
From the front at least yes. The back is infinitely superior tho and the entire robot is more compact. The ROTF design left the entire truck hanging from the back. Still unbelievable that a figure about a decade older and on mainline budget for most people is better than a "masterpiece" and even an upgrade of said masterpiece.
Me personally don't find the transformation of mpm04 and this ko difficult or time consuming in the slightest but just because I think like that does not mean it is fact and I know it
In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't get this guy in the end. He's just too overboard and overly complicated for his own good. And that's saying something from me, who likes both MPM-4 and MP44, despite their complexities and resultant shortcomings.

Or 15 Kingdom Rattraps
Or 4 SSGE Megatron

Yeah I'm tempted to hunt down the SS32 KO, but for now I'm happy with having the 2009 Leader again.
Weigh Jang.
@@_V.Va_ That was not intentional. Thanks for the mispell find tho.
You should get it.
@@MaxCanonStunner No. I'd rather get the 007 voyager than thunderleader.
Why does the weijiang evasion optimus prime have flames in robot mode but not in truck mode
You really opened my eyes, Doc. There was a time I thought Thunder Leader was an amazing looking upgrade from the ROTF and MPM molds. But now, after I've seen the figure itself up close and personal and witnessing you having to endure through it... _yeesh._ I was hilariously wrong. This thing *SUCKS.* Thank Primus I'm not a third party/masterpiece collector.
I really dislike the direction 3P and MP is going these days, with an obsession over accuracy, instead of fun and enjoyable conversions.

Thanks for this review!
saw him going for 130-140 ish but in the end I skipped.
This looks way too over-engineered for me. I wanted a kind of centerpiece for my collection and I ended up getting a ko of MPM4 for about 60 bucks. (Every version of the Rotf leader I saw went for insane prices Jesus-) In the end I’m happy with what I got, figure is sturdy and it has issues but in the end I find the transformation pretty fun (outside of some tabbing issues on the front but once you do it a few times it all resolved itself)
Like you said with the Rotf leader, it’s right on the edge of being too complicated but is still very fun. For me at least. Ko is XP-14 btw.
Such a shame they went so far into accuracy they ruined the entire thing…
I’ll never get it but I’m curious how the MM version will turn out, especially considering they’re literally ripping off 3-A
Cheers❤!
Far from perfect, obviously, but not a _bad_ showing for the only 3P Bay trilogy Optimus so far
Only took five-ish years :P
@@DrLockdown bit later than we'd have liked, but it's something ;w;
_to be fair, I think it took around the same time for us to finally get A MP-style triple changing Shatter, and eventually a Dropkick-_
Thats exactly how i feel with my shattered glass optimus prime when i try to transform it to alt mode.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! Now I know if I want a complex movie prime to get the takara one.
Not much Vance of getting him new now the factory was raided. Price they are going for now can be up to £1000 so glad I got mine when I did. eBay and luck is what you need now
Yeah there was NO way I was selling mine for that price. Bought it at $200AUD, sold it at around $150 since it was broken.

Goddamnit. And I was just getting interested on getting some 3rd party formers. This year is a mess.
Plenty of good 3P figures still.
I dunno, I feel that Takara and Hasbro have bigger issues than 3rd party figures.

@@MaxCanonStunner The figure is Hell to transform and breaks
Why is it good?
@@naapurihei lol better question. How is this hell to transform and breaks when you transform it peacefully and be careful with the parts? Because you aren't patient and mess with it like a Barby doll. That's why it would break. Same would go with rotf leader prime if you mess with it properly.
It looks very accurate to the movie, the articulations are amazing, the truck looks perfect, the joints are tight, the transformation works if you're patient, etc.

I think aranobilis98s LEGO optimus prime looks way better than this, which is sad considering this figures price, Not to say the lego figure is bad, i think its fantastic
Honestly my custom rotf leader optimus prime is better than this with the rubber smokestacks replaced with a metal straw cut to fit and being chromed out
I disagree in the materials department, I think they are fine, but you are right about that transformation, never liked the rotf leader prime conversion, and this figure just makes it worst, and it is uglier then that leader class figure

I understand that Weijiang means a lot to you and I understand that they helped get you back into transformers and I wish I could say that they were innocent and didn’t deserve to be shut down but since I am strictly opposed to knock offs and see them as a scummy practice I just can’t
The same could be said about all 3P companies. IP theft is IP theft. The only reason it's around is because of Hasbro's negligence.
And this is coming from a guy who loves 3P and KOs.
@@DrLockdown there is a difference however
third party figures despite being styled after Hasbro's characters are still original figures that are designed from the ground up
Wei jiang and other knockoff companies however bluntly steal Hasbro's figures maybe change minor aspects as well as the materials used and plainly profit off what's not theirs
Its still IP theft. They never paid for the likeness. In the eyes of the law, both are guilty
@@DrLockdown yeah it might be best that third parties try making figures that bare no resemblance to Hasbro’s characters since that would mean that Hasbro would not have to shut them down to keep any trademarks
