Hardest thing about training a dog is reminding yourself that they are dogs and don't have human values or a moral code. There is no right or wrong in the mind of a dog, just things they find rewarding or unrewarding. The secret is convincing them that the most rewarding thing in their life is being with us and listening to us. One thing I'm learning about my young Kelpie is how much attention he pays to my actions and body language, as well as verbal commands. He is now beginning to sit, lay-down and wait, with me only needing to use my voice occasionally to remind and reinforce.
After two years without our 16 year old border collie we decided to adopt again. I loved hiking and playing soccer with her. Unfortunately I have had an emergency hip replacement this week. Now I feel like her training has gone out the window. Jumping is a problem, and Mandy is very strong. I would love to see this topic explored in a video. How can I keep bonding with and training my pup while I heal. What about having other physical disabilities and continueing to train your pup.?
I am hoping to get my 15 week old puppy crat trained. She goes bazerk and kicks the tray out. Eats the tray and has even lost a toe nail on it. I have left her out and she does ok, but I am not comfortable leaving her out fearing she will eat something she shouldn't. PLEASE HELP
