@zordonelite True, but unfortunately, it's usually dangerous to allow animals bred and raised in captivity to reenter the wild afterward. They might not be able to socialize, defend themselves, or find food since they've become so dependent on it. It's still very upsetting though

Getting dehydrated while living in a body of water is the most ironic thing I’ve heard today.

Basically asthma
The ACTUAL reason they give them gelatin is because they have to eat a massive amount of food daily to live and it’s extremely expensive so they substitute it with 80% gelatin and 20% meat.(not just the orcas but ALL their animals)
That leads to all sorts of negative affects.
Don’t let these people tell you that discoloration in their skin and bent fins is a normal thing that happens in the wild because that’s a bold lie, their diet in captivity is what causes it.

Solution: Release the orcas back into the wild
Orca Prey: Please don’t.
You can’t, you’d be killing the orcas
They honestly can’t, Once an animal has been taken into captivity it sorta just becomes brain dead and loses really most of its survival skills. So it’s either send the orcas into the wild where they will eventually starve to death from not knowing how to hunt, or just keep them there until they die.
Releasing them would kill them. They have lost their natural ability to be a "normal" orca in the wild. They would not even know how to eat.
I worked at Seaworld in San Diego with the original Shamu the Killer Whale many, many decades ago. The wild in these magnificent creatures has been taught out of them. They would not survive being released.
What needs to be done is immediately shut down orca performances and no more breeding orcas. No more catching them in the wild for these shows, and the orcas in captivity now have to be treated like royalty until their natural death.
Again, they would not survive if released into the wild.
It also depens if the orca was caught or grew up there. If the orca grew up there, it won't survive the real world, sadly
@@davidineira2007death is better then those small tanks

Orcas in the wild live as long as we do even older. Workers in captivity live to about 40 years old. Imagine being kept in a place where it kills you by the time you reach middle age
Remind me of a fact that orca lived longer in the wild rather than in captivity
(in the wild they always swim freely in the ocean but in the captivity they stuck there pretty much their whole life, so they ended up depressed and they will swim to the bottom of the pool to end their lives) orcas have lungs, btw orcas can have a long life in captivity if they are treated right

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!
Fun fact: these orcas can never be reintroduced from captivity due to human exposure and treatment. They forgot how to hunt and live in the wild. As of January 2024, there are 59 orcas in captivity worldwide, 35 of which were born in captivity with only 19 orcas being taken into captivity with 10 of them being illegally done so, by Russia. Most orcas that have been captured have been injured or needed assistance without which they would die. I’m not saying that captivity is good for them, but the orcas that have been captured due to injury and those born in captivity can not physically live in the wild anymore and sending them out would be worse than keeping them, relatively safe, all be it not the best conditions.
As someone who studied marine biology for 3 years and have worked with marine species, the solution is not that simple, as “free the orcas”
Damn right, but its no use lecturing dumb yt comments
I agree for the orcas in sanctuary but I'm not sure your argument is valid for park like seaworld or marineland.
I'm surprised that you don't think they can learn. Especially with survival at stake. How many trainers have been killed by tillikum etc?
One of the problems with captivity is the expense. In the wild they are not subject to market fluctuations.
I'm not saying I know better than u but, do better.
Agree. For me it’s not “free the captive orca” but more like “don’t capture any more orcas than necessary”

For people who think orcas don’t hurt humans unless the humans are bad then you are terribly mistaken. Orcas have never reportedly hurt or killed humans In the wild but places like these and sea world have Orcas with no space and were snatched away from their pod when they were calves, and sometimes the rest of the pod is murdered, and that calve is taken only to be alone in a pool or with a few other Orcas captured the same way, and they become aggressive towards each other out of frustration and boredom. As they all abuse each other they all become depressed. They will take out their anger and depression on their care takers. Like Dawn, and other caretakers that loved the Orcas and took care of them but ultimately paid the price of the mistreatment of orcas.
Correct. They need to be set free cause they're smarter than people think. They only see orcas doing trucks they were taught but don't know that these orcas do it out boredom and realize they're food comes from their caretakers. But make no mistake, orcas can tear the caretakers apart due to frustration. They need to be set free
I know the whole thing is terrible. Did you know that dolphins actually commit suicide in these disgusting water world parks around the world? Think how absolutely devastatingly depressed the ones that can’t bring themselves to commit suicide are. Some will go down to the bottom of their pool and won’t come back up so they can drown themselves… Let it sink in..how conscious these animals are and dolphins are known to be so very intelligent and understand what is happening to them and where they should be!!! I was in shock when I found that out. I also saw a horrible video a few years ago where a small amusement park in rural China, that was dingy to begin with closed down and they had 1 dolphin in a small pool as one of the attractions and to this day (or the last I knew) the dolphin is still there alone! In a completely abandoned green pool in the middle of nowhere, nothing around him or her for miles, I cried for days after seeing that. I still think of him and wonder if he ended up dying, is still there eating algae? Or some villager goes and feeds him, and I go to sleep thinking of him swimming in a pool the size of your local pool place at home.

The easiest way to make sure an Orca doesn't get dehydrated is to leave them in the wild and not keep them in captivity in the 1st place
Preach
The problem isn't that they are kept in captivity. They are kept in extremely suboptimal conditions.
Unless you are also against cats and dogs. Then I don't know if we can have a conversation.
@@IIBloodXLustII Well theres a diference in captivties. I'm not against conservation efforts since those are ultimately a net positive. but captivity for entretainment is cruel even if theyre kept in good contidions.
@@IIBloodXLustII Them being kept in captivity is 100% the problem. They are not made to live in such small, confined, artificial environments. Comparing captive Orcas to cats and dogs is no where near the same. Cats and Dogs have been domesticated through thousands of years of breeding to make them pets and companions. One way to look at the relationship between humans and cats/dogs is that this relationship is symbiotic. They provide companionship, protection, (even cats can alert to hidden dangers) some are trained to do certain jobs. And in return, they get love, food, shelter and a reduced chance of being eaten by larger predators they would have to avoid if they were in the wild. The relationship between humans and orcas is purely parasitic with humans being the problem.
This needs to be the top comment

An animal in water gets dehydrated the irony lmao
Orcas in captivity should be considered a crime against humanity
“Dehydrated” while living underwater 💀😭
