Better / more creative / more musical take (imo) here: • Sewerslvt - "Mr. Kill ... - has some mistakes and way less views, but i don't care, I still think it's better.
Audio recorded on one mic pointed at the snare, video from a GoPro Hero White hung from a ceiling pipe.
in love with how absolutely destroyed your cymbals are
Hahaha I am too...although it'd be cool to still have a few left that *weren't* destroyed.
(sad trombone)
@@karlfagerstrom idk the sound of em really fits the the song
@@semiotxt I've definitely adjusted to the busted out cymbal sound over time
@@karlfagerstrom i thought you did that to them on purpose 😂 they sound amazing
I do think i prefer somewhat busted to perfectly intact - and I do tape my cymbals when they're new to deaden them a bit. But that ride is realllllly hanging by a thread in my latest videos haha...the other day a giant sickle shaped chunk flew off of it that was about two inches thick and stretched about halfway around the cymbal
I commented in the original song video "imagine a drummer playing this"
Dude you are a legend
Thank you Gumiero 🙏
That's what I think of. brutal dnb breaks and so much room for a real drummer to fuckin shine hard

Must be a sign
I'll sign it
No. It’s perfect. òvvvvó the drum kit has personality. I personally hate the breaking-in phase. That’s just me though. Haha
I'd sign
this has the exact same feeling as a level select screen for a ps2 racing game
that must be exactly where my love for DnB, and later breakcore came from: MGS2, Need For Speed, and other PS2/Xbox/GCN era games. You hit it right on the money lol

You should see my cymbals *now*... I'm shredding them faster than I can acquire them. Gotta keep going though
@@karlfagerstrom nice
You crazy bastard, you actually did it. Awesome.
I definitely struggled to keep creative for an entire 8 minute track with a limited selection of chops :O but I think I did a slightly better job of it on the "Last Take" video (but it also had a couple light mess ups):

I was hoping someone out there would do the beats from Sewerslvt's music on a real drum kit and you didn't dissapoint. This is what I imagine a live set version of her music would sound like if she ever toured. It would be interesting to see her songs performed with as many traditional instruments as possible.
It'd be tough since what she does is very sample-based, but I'd gladly play musical director and write out parts for instruments if that fairy tale ever happened
if she toured theres no way she'd actually be able to play this. idk if she can actually play the drums lol, she uses breakbeat samples, not record them live or anything
Oh, no producer can play *anything* hahaha (or, at least, it's pretty rare). All these breakcore producers are just dowloading a very frequently used sample and chopping it. Which is fine, as long as they do it creatively (and maybe try, I dunno, getting more creative with the sampling as well - i get really tired of any genre or artist that's just a copy of a copy x 10000000000000000000 which is definitely a huge problem in breakcore).
@@karlfagerstrom too real haha, the only real creative part in breakcore now is just the actual melodies and everything else but the drums since the drums have probably been done before lol.
>she
Nodles' documentary of Sewerslvt brought me here.
I feel like these broken drums and cymbals really add a distinct note to the overall sound profile. It's messy and complex, just like the artist you're covering. Outstanding work, well done!
Nothing makes a new genre/creators more welcoming than when the most community recommended cover is from a guy who even after all these years comes back to like almost all 416 comments
Maybe that speaks more to me not having a life and needing to touch grass hahaha...but thank you, I *do* care.
When talent is through the roof

almost 8 minutes of pure ecstasy with these drums. you're absolutely amazing.
🙏🙏🙏 Means a lot, man!
Time to go and learn drums
Please do. The world needs drummers whether it knows it or not
disgusting how good this is, dude i love it
Thanks Luke 👊
Bro, when I got way into breakcore, I never knew it was remotely possible to play the breakcore drums like that in that speed. Most are mainly sped up amen break loops but when I saw your video, you blew my mind. This gave me the passion to learn to play the drums again since I quit playing it a year ago. Thank you for making this masterpiece dude. You seriously rock !!! ~ peepkin.
That's awesome to hear! Yeah breakcore is basically all Amen Break. I don't mind that it's all programmed, or "cheating," some might say - but I *do* mind that *everybody* samples the Same. Exact. Song. Every. Time. In terms of creativity/originality it bums me out (granted, it's an awesome sample, obviously, but it's soooooooo tired and over-used at the same time). That's why I've always loved drummers who play drum'n'bass and breakcore *for real*, up to speed, and in real time (and then I became one myself 😁)
Super stoked I inspired you to play again! If you ever want a zoom lesson just lmk
You're too cool it's almost illegal
@@karlfagerstrom i don't mind it at all, because its not like they're keeping the same pattern. breakcore rearranges the drum patterns and distorts the sounds until it becomes something new. Sampling the amen break opens up a whole world of creativity in terms of how you approach it, it's really just going for a specific texture. Listen to breakcore from the late 90s early 00s and you will hear the ways the break can be manipulated or re-sampled or even turned into a melodic element.
Feeling the exact same way. Haven’t touched my drums in a couple months or played regularly for probably a year. This video reawakened something in me
man, you would be surprised, in my opinion, the most impresive drummers are those who regularly play DnB, search for louiscolemusic drum beat tutorials
Even his goddamn wooden stool has some wear and tear that matches the drum set ahahaha
Nothing I own works properly. This Macbook I'm typing on is probably older than some of my subscribers. And if I won the lottery tomorrow, I probably wouldn't change a thing.
@@karlfagerstrom Hell yeah brother keep on rockin in the free world
This was a crazy ass cover, makes me want to race a down a mountain in a beater car.
Thanks dude - I actually *have* raced down a mountain in a beater car, but not for the thrill of it, but because I've only ever driven a beater car and sometimes you have to get from a sleepover wedding gig out in the boonies to a city gig the next day for a different band after sleeping in hella late 🤣
Also, I did another take I thought was slightly better and more creative (although it had a couple mistakes in it), that I uploaded at the same time, then accidentally deleted it. But I just found it in my Google drive. Think I should post it or nah (i.e. would it be too redundant)?
@@karlfagerstrom yoo haha maybe you should post it jk lmao, but beater cars are sometimes all we got.

Bro you're legend, the whole idea of breakcore on actual drums gives me shivers❤
Hey man, I’m a year late, but this is incredible! I absolutely love this song and you are a very talented percussionist. I’d love to get back to drumming someday. You’re a real inspiration.
Thanks, Spencer, that means a lot...Also who cares if you're a year late, this channel isn't nearly big enough for that to be an issue 😂But I'm glad it seems to be just big enough where it motivates people to play. As such, I really hope you *do* get back into drumming

I kinda wanna do one for Goodbye but see if my subs will throw me some money so I can invest the massive amount of time it'll take, purely from a computer perspective. But you should check out all my other sewerslvt covers, I did a *bunch*
keep coming back to this video, despite it being 2 years old. it's just that good. thanks, karl!
Thank you 🙏 I rarely upload so this feels like yesterday to me
i wish i could play that fast. The way you switch between the toms and the snare in fills and how easily you do those little drum rolls is admirable
Playing drums is like mastering the ultimate rhythym game i mean to have that much level of control with your feet and hands while also switching up rhythyms and overrall just jamming having a fun ass time is just such a sight to see good stuff my man im gonna subscribe for sure

Awesome possum. The original video's got 1 million views now. It's crazy how good it really was~.
*Still is...but agreed!
You made me really happy man, I needed that thank you
You're most welcome 🙏
This video convinced me of broken cymbal supremacy. Not only do I prefer the sound to a normal cymbal, they're also cheap as heck and allow me to mess around with higher quality stuff despite being a beginner
Fucking *EXACTLY*. And they're less oppressive sounding in the mix (although sometimes you *do* need that loud, resonant bashing - but you can still get that from very-lightly-broken cymbals, especially rides). That said, broken cymbals tend to keep breaking, so you constantly have to get more. That's a downside I'm encountering lately, but it's still worth it.
i absolutely love the sound those cymbals make
Godamnnn this slaps so hard, really really really well done, it has so much more emotion in it than the original track, I can hear the passion, so good
Thank you, Keyturk 🙏 I've been accused of playing with a lot of passion on more than one occasion hahaha

Love the cymbals, such absolute carnage!!!!
this goes hard
i absolutely love this, ive always been interested in drums, but when my love for breakcore began, i started to really appreciate drums in songs, now i really want to learn to play drums but damn they are expensive
They don't have to be. I'm presently on tour with a kit I got used for $45, and sound techs / crowds still love the way it sounds (it's the same one I use on my Newlove cover). I got all my (already-broken) cymbals for free, and a couple unbroken ones I got by filling in for other bands and them buying me the cymbals as a thank you. I don't skimp on the snare, though - I think I'm playing a snare I bought for $300-400 right now, and my ex got me my double pedal for like $500 new several years ago. But there are definitely ways to cut corners financially. You better believe I do that *hard*, hahaha
True though, drums *are* expensive if you go the normal route. Which sucks - it's history's first instrument, and they should be cheap on principle.
I just randomly decided to search drumming to breakcore and you did not disappoint especially to sewerslvt. Actually goated with the sauce.
I just do what I can and I put all my skill points in playing drums in a weirdo style

@@karlfagerstrom on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard to play would your rate breakcore’s busy beats ?
Like 1-10, it totally depends on the song and how over-the-top the producer went. Some of it's actually pretty easy, some of it is more just the producer's approach being "one looped sample, and I'm going to go *crazy* on the drum chops"
Im a bass player, but now after looking at more of your content, i want to start playing drums
