- Another cool lobster in this one! The video doesn’t do it great justice! If you go over to youtube shorts you can see him sitting next to a normal lobster and that really shows how unique this one is! I have never caught one this color! Stick around for day 6 coming soon!
I love finding channels like this.. would I ever have thought to search for a lobster boat vlog? Nope, but here I am, loving every video
Sameeee😂❤
Jacob is something else. I lived in Machias Maine, but he’s in the down east boondocks.
Me too😂
Me too...he has over a million followers too!
Me too! I guess over a million other people feel the same way!
Jacob, I would love it if you would give us a tour of your entire boat, how things work ... and a complete process of dropping then picking up the cages.
We love you because you care for these tasty creatures and keep the fishing sustainable.
Bless you!
Thanks Jacob! Happy Sunday to you, your family and crew.
Hi, Captain Jacob! You and your crew certainly do work very hard! Now, I know why Lobsters are so expensive. One good thing is that you work out so hard, you don't need a gym membership! Love your good sense of humor! God Bless you & your crew, and all that you do!
Many of them keep regular chiropractor visits
That sun on the horizon of the ocean is a sight I don't think I'd ever get tired of
It’s amazing. Every day. I was blessed to work on a lobster boat.
It's amazing the only way it can get better is with whales and dolphins all around you. Best place on earth is about 60 miles offshore
NEVER, EVER boring - especially when you’re sitting on your sofa in Pittsburgh! You are all amazing!!!🦞
I simply love this channel. In all practical purposes, this is a human interest story on how we interact with the ocean's 2:38 marine life. He's so entertaining and educational. You've lifetime friends through this channel because you are so young. Thank you for your service and you enjoy ent of your passion for the ocean. It seems like you're just playing
❤not working. Other lobster, shrimp or crab boats only focus on making money. No fun experiences or relationships to the viewers at all. I've never once heard him say, that he's gonna make a lot of 🤑 money.
I never would have guessed that fishing/ lobster catching would be my go to comfort channel.
Jacob should make a 42 hour no commentary asmr video
1000% should
😅
Can you have ASMR with no commentary?
@@thehutch7728Yeah, asmr is mainly just satisfying noise. There are tons of asmr videos without talking. Look it up
This!
I’m just amazed at you holding lobsters like they are your best friend. I cringe like they will grab your hand and clasp hard. I love your channel. ❤
I just knew he’d have Keith bite the chalk + of course the good egghead did! We need more Keith really funny clips!
It's not "boys will be boys" so much as "boys will be DUMB."
I would love to more about how you bait the traps and how they work. Thrilled with the longer versions. Thank you for what you do!
That guy coming in with new found knowledge needs to be protected I loved that info!
Knew a lobster fisherman back in the 80’s out of Rockport Ma. He died of polysubstance abuse on the boat. He had told me it was just “a thing” they did while waiting between catches. This sub redeems my thoughts about y’all. Thanks for the content Jacob. You’re a decent man.
What is polysubstance? I'm an ex smoker, and have never been interested in vaping, but I know that the damage it does happens far quicker than cigarettes would.
@@deathbycheese850 Well I had to look it up too. But having a decent clue by the name, it is triple (or more) substance addiction with no rhyme or reason or preference to use of one over the others.
Poly substance abuse is a medical terminology for multiple types of drugs ingested by a patient.
Also gotta say I love the long videos.. keep em coming guys
Question: Can you explain the trap logistics? How do you keep track & how do you keep whose trap belongs to who?
Yea that's a good 👍 question 🤔
I have wondered the same thing! Is your name on the buoys/floater thingies attached to the traps?
@@thedirtprincess3293name and license number as well as most fishermen having a certain color for there buoys and toggles. As well as a bouy on top of the boats antenna or somewhere displaying there colors.
Lobster traps are tied together with a rope. That's called a stringer and the number of traps varies. The stringer is tied to a buoy that's made of styrofoam and floats. They used to be made from wood. The buoy marks the location of the traps and designates the owner of the traps by colors and designs. Each lobstermen has a unique buoy design and that's how they know which traps
belong to who.
That's the simplified version.
Buoys: by color and tag or engraved #. Often one used as an address marker at the home 😊
Been to ME many times. Sailed there tons with Aunt and Uncle when I was a kid! All up and down the East Coast! We’d start in ME and go all the way to Bermuda! Love Maine! Absolutely gorgeous coastline! I myself live in Gloucester, Massachusetts as you can probably tell by my UA-cam moniker!! Love your videos bro! I myself have Knowles blood! My great grandfather was a Knowles as was my grandma before she married!
You're probably related for sure. Very nice!
Love the East Coast even tho I'm a West Coast native. 🌊🐠
The new videography is amazing thanks to everyone, especially the lobsters 😂😂😂
Some of the things you pull out of the traps are very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to show us. 😊
Can you tell us how you decide where to place the traps and how often do you change locations❓ And what is the average number of lobsters you get in each trap❓
Went to bar harbor for out honeymoon. I'm from Florida and man what a beautiful place and the lobster from Maine is like no other place
The scallops are great there, too.
@@KoshNI 2nd that. Nothing better than fresh Gulf Of Maine Scallops! A few seconds on each side in a hot slillet nearly raw is the best.
@@noname-yb5jt There used to be a place called *_The Acadia Restaurant_* that was near the center of the 'T' of Mount Desert Street and Main Street. It was *on* Main Street, *facing* Mount Desert Street. I remember it was a multi-story building and had the name "Morrison" either pressed in concrete or carved in stone, fairly high up on the face of the building. That's where I had the best scallops I've ever had. They were so tender and juicy that the weight of the fork would practically go right through them. If memory serves me right, they had Old Bay Seasoning on them and melted butter. The place also had excellent blueberry pancakes in the morning. The blueberry pancakes were two pancakes with an ice cream scoop of fresh blueberries between them. This was in late May of 1981. I ate there everyday I was there. 😋
ps. I looked on Google Maps and can't find the place now. 🙁
@KoshN I live not far from there. The owner of the Desert Of Maine in Freeport lets me run my giant rc cars around the desert in the off season. The paddle tires sling that powdery sand 40 feet in the air it is a blast. This is the best state in the country. Mainers are great as well as the seafood.
The mount desert street brought in that thought about the desert of maine...off on a tangent haha.
@@noname-yb5jt Haha being from Freeport and growing up in Orland with many seasons on MDI, this is a close to home comment! Agreed, this IS the best state in the country!
Looks like hard work! Not all Claw spa & Punch & Lunch 😮
Thanks for showing how it’s done! 💕
This is one of my favorite “new” subs. Going on a crab or fishing boat is a bucket list for me.
I have a few questions. Been watching your channel for a bit now and it’s been fascinating.
Do you have a “territory”? I’m assuming there are other lobster fishermen so how do you all figure out where to lay your traps? Did you inherit your area from your father and grandfather? How would a new fisherman choose a “territory” without accidentally horning into another fisherman’s area? If you don’t have a set area but move around, how do you know that you’re not laying traps in the same area as someone else?
I saw the video where your list some traps then were able to retrieve them. Have you ever heard of malicious people intentionally cutting the lines out of spite or because they’re a-holes?
Thanks for continually making interesting videos. Never thought I’d get so interested in watching lobster fishing. 🙏
Oh. And hullo hullo from the prairies of the Great White North 🇨🇦😊
Keith must have taken his silly pills today. What on earth was he thinking to take a big bite of chalk???? What a goofball!!! Great to see the sea creatures are having fun, getting a free ride to the surface and then getting tossed back in for the ride to the bottom again. Happy to see you feeding the "girls" a special snack before returning them.. at least the ones we get to see.. lol!!! Have a wonderful week, and can't wait for your next vlog!!!
That was quite a inique lobster. Just love going out to sea with you.
I love your channel and your approach to fishing. And I love seeing you clean the barnacles and sending the mature lobsters home with a nice meal. 👍🏼👍🏼
I agree, very cool to see the lobsters getting a little help with those barnacles.
New to this channel, it just popped up and now I’m hooked. ❤
I love the banta you 3 guys have while fishing, Keith is a real sport and looks like he's up for a challenge or 2. It's great that you show the real deal and real life of a Maine lobster fisherman. Hi from uk
If you trap a fish that you want to take home and eat, could you keep those?
I've been wondering this too 😊
Long as it’s in season, why not?
That's what I was wondering about the crabs.
You all work so hard! I appreciate all of the fishermen!
SO MANY QUESTIONS:
1.Do the lobsters get hurt when throwing them in the holding box?
2. How much lobster and crab do you eat?
3. Do the claws grow back as good as new?
4. 5th generation fisherman: how has fishing changed over the generations? Did you always want to follow in the family business?
5. How far out do you fish? How scary does the weather get?
Thanks 😊
Looks like you enjoy your work. Keep up the great work!❤
We’re totally okay with the “boring” stuff!! I’m sure almost all of it find it interesting and we can learn
love your videos; they’re educational they’re fun I love the water the scenery the lobsters the fishing…..all of it 🌷
Love your videos!!...I never really knew how the lobster process worked...thanks so much for taking us along. You all take care out there.
These long videos are awesome 😊
Hey...Mr.Jacob...how long do you usually soak your pots? Also is ghere a limit on how many pots a boat can have? Thanks for sharing!👍❤️🙏
Hows the new baby doing Dad??.
Baby is doing good! 800 trap limit! Soak depends on the time of year. Anywhere from 2 nights when we’re busy, to a week + when things are slow.
@@jacobknowles5421 Awesome my friend! Thanks for the answers 👍🙏😁
I love what you’re doing, keeping it real, respecting the catch. I’m a carpenter in California, and I am one of those souls that relates to the working class. Fisherman are the utmost of that hard working class , and I wish I could drop everything and join them, however, I’m 58 and probably couldn’t keep up. Great work guys !
Cool catch ! I would definitely put him in the display tank.....let that dude live a long and productive life....we are loggers here in the Mountain West Jacob and appreciate your videos so much. Thanks Again.
P.S. we love Lobster and the ones we get in Rapid City are from Maine, wild caught fresh and still very much alive. No kidding we eat Lobster on average once a month....sometimes more....but to us it ranks right up there with Elk Tenderloin, Buffalo Rib-eye and Beef ribeye....and fresh caught mountain stream Trout !
I really enjoy these videos. It's a type of fishing that I just can't do, as I get SO seasick fishing the ocean, and even big ship cruises kill me (3 times failing is my lifetime limit, I think). But I am a lifelong freshwater fisherman. Caught 5 really nice keeper crappies w my Dad just yesterday. 👍
I Love Your Videos!! Thanks 😊
I was shown these videos as random algorithm shorts and I became hooked. I don’t know why I find these so relaxing and fascinating. I don’t even like lobster. Jacob, you are just a very likeable guy and fun to watch. I would love to see a video with your sweet baby girl in it but I guess that is not the theme of your videos. Your wife is lovely as well. You are a happy lucky man!
I'm have lived in AZ all of my 70yrs I have never seen the ocean in person so I love to watch you you boys you are so lucky but I will get too see it some day God bless you all
Been watching your channel for a while but what really brought back memories of sailing in my youth were the three of you staying aligned and upright, relative to the horizon, no matter what the deck was doing! Also remember the first moments on a solid dock... May the winds always be abaft.😊 Now landlocked in Wyoming.
Yall should keep some of the super rare ones yall like
Love how you educate everyone!
Yes, it has been a beautiful day here in New England! Glad you guys had a good day!
Am I the only one who want's a closer look at the trap and how it's set up? Or have I missed that video?
Yeah, I was wondering about the trap & trap collection logistics.
Thanks! Haven’t done it yet. Ill do that tomorrow!
@@jacobknowles5421thanks! I’m super curious to know about that too!
The last vacation my wife & I took before we moved West was 10 days in Maine at bed & breakfasts & nothing but lobster pounds every night. Always appreciated your hard work.
Thank you for the long video..... I miss Maine.... When my first son was born the dad worked at friendship lobster trap company.... But as a little girl where I got babysat I used to walk down to a place in Augusta that sells lobsters and I would always put my hands in the tank and get bit I was only five but I didn't care
The smirk on Keith's face tells the story, I'm very happy you guys love what you do and love the lobster, most fisherman are all in ot for the money, you guys are in it for the lobster. I absolutely love your content
Super interested in learning about this, thanks so much for sharing your work life with us.
I don’t know why, but I absolutely love watching Jacob’s interesting information about fishing ; reminds me of fishing with my dad and uncles. Watching Graeme Parker’s “ Hoof GP” channel taking care of the hooves of dairy cows and cattle , takes me back home to the farm .
With hurricanes and tropical storms, do you have to do anything different or special for your boat? I think of y'all every time it looks like a big storm is headed up toward Maine. Love the channel!
There has been an unusual number of tropical systems just gunning straight up the east coast into the Gulf of Maine, Bay of Fundy, and the Maritimes this season; it is true.
This is very tough work --- thanks you for the work you do ! Cheers!
You 2 are couple kids at heart and you make me smile Hard work Good job😊
Love watching you and the lobsters.😄
That was the most adorable tutorial I've ever watched!🦞🦞💖💖
Its crazy how beautiful and special every lobster is. Reminds me about how beautiful and special everyone is.
always fun hanging with your fun, crazy fishermen! thanks for the giggles, and info
The chalk-biting scene is great. LOL when the guy aces it! 😂🤣
Thank you ❤️ so much info how it's done. What to look for. The amount of energy and strength it takes. Is absolutely amazing. WOW!!
Thank You!! Love your smile.
Stripped her down for speed haha! These are an absolute joy to watch. Thanks for taking the time to edit and share
You guys are awesome 🇬🇧
I never thought I would be following a lobster boat, but here I am, loving every minute of it. You and your crew certainly work very hard and with a good sense of humor. Keep doing what you are doing and posting. Hoping to catch another sighting of the recently released Bowie.
as long as youre having fun so are we. cant help but enjoy the banter between yall
Glad you guys have fun doin what your doin. Makes every day so much better. Im lucky to be on the same boat. No pun intended lol
Never thought I'd watch a lobster fisherman, but yesterday you showed up in my UA-cam feed. After a couple of videos, I subscribed. It really is an entertaining channel.
Another great episode of Tastiest Catch. Fun to watch.
Your commentaries are enjoyable as they are positive and uplifting. You leave your audience in a more optimistic mindset.
The "shorts" are good fun, but its great to see more of a deep dive into the lobster fishing business. People take the food on their plate totally for granted here in the UK. It's good to see what's behind the journey from the ocean to the market, I'm sure its similar over here. I'm really looking forward to your winter videos
Love all of your content! Keep it up, looking forward to what you have this winter. And thank you for giving them snacks….my favorite part 😊
The back & forth swaying made me feel like I was on the boat with you!!
Thank you for providing this insight. Its like being on the boat with you. Just without having to get up early, the wind and the bad weather (and the vaping haze). :-)
How do keep track of which traps are yours? I love your videos! Barnacle cleaning is awesome!!
All of your significant others and families must be so, so proud of you guys. Keep on hauling 🙂❤🇬🇧
Thanks a million for showing us how difficult and important your work is. Love watching all your videos and I buy more Maine lobster
Love your videos, do you ever keep any crab for your own dinner?
I always appreciate your posts. They are educational! Thank you!❤
6:45 Northern Moon Snail (Lunatia heros), the hole is drilled in the quahog or (Mercenaria mercenaria) with its radula which is like a long ribbon like rasp. You'll also notice that the hole is in the same location on the shell of the bivalve, this is due to the shell being the thinnest in that area.
Dog welks (Family: Muricidae, Genus/species: Nucella lapillus) are usually a shallow water species and not likely to have made that hole, their prey is barnacles and limpets.
Thank you Jacob for showing us such varied genes in these guys, it just goes to show how creation is so great if we take the time to stop and look…😮
Watching you from Norfolk UK - who thought I would be interested in fishing videos - keep up the good work - I am learning so much. Loving watching them all.
I stumbled with this channel a couple of days ago, and now I'm completely addicted to their videos. Love them!
Love these vlogs! Can you do a video about how the traps work, the buoy system/colors, etc?
Great video Jacob! Love the new vlogs.
Thanks for sharing!!!
I love these videos, thank you for taking us behind the scenes.
Now you got me curious to see what you guys do in the winter season since you mentioned ice fishing, I know being a fisherman isn't an easy job, but the view you guys have is spectacular, are the waves always that calm? or does it get hairy at times?
Love the new videos. Thx for sharing & blessings for a great catch tomorrow and the next ♥️
You should hold the snack underneath it so it can taste it first. Great fun fact on lobsters.
Love watching these videos…I live in Massachusetts but, Maine is my summer favorite! Thanks for sharing your experiences!!
You guys work hard, but you are so funny...too much fresh, salt air...🤪
That's some serious Hard Work and you make it look easy! Thanks for Sharing!!!!
Love this channel’s ability to educate as well as entertain. Plus I love the accents (shallow, I know)!
I love these videos. Thank you for them.
Love that I found your channel. So interesting and you guys work so hard. Thank you for taking us along with you Jacob xxxx
Man, I love your video's so so much. Thank you so much for sharing all these video's with us.
"It's chalky.". 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Love your channel and became a subscriber. Never knew all the details of catching my favorite delicacy until I stumbled across your videos. Really enjoy you investigating a tagged lobster. Very interesting and amazing how far they can travel. Thanks for educating us!
I have to say...from seeing tour vids..ive found u by chance and am an absolute fan...i will never again complain about the lobster prices
Do you ever get starfish? As a kid on Vinalhaven I saw them everywhere, but in recent years I haven’t seen any! I wonder what’s happened.
Fellow Mainer here up in the western mountains. Love your channel.
