I knew the name came from a fish from middle eastern mythology but I didn't know how that made the jump to being a dragon in FF lore. I had no idea the direct inspiration was from D&D. Very informative.
Your "Evolution of" series is, IMO, the most interesting thing your channel does. I really loved your Red Mage, Black Mage, Dragoon etc. videos, too. It would be cool if you did a comparison video on Ninja and Thief, two closely related classes which are sometimes linked (FF1, 14) and sometimes separate
Am I remembering, or isn't the novel's events non-canon? Like- I know it's an alternate ending, but I forget whether or not they actually change stuff around to match it. If that's the case, Bahamut's character in the book may not exactly align to his character in the game.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what other videos in this same vein that you have planned to do. FF16 Bahamut Uses Zettaflare Donald: finally the king has shed his scales, I can finally take a rest and give the mantle as the strongest being in the FF universe to Bahamut. a simple explanation, In FF14 a single Terraflare can destroy a whole civilization, Zettaflare is 1 billion times stronger than Terraflare
Okay, so to know that Bahamut ZERO in FF7 was only surpassed by Knights of Round in strength makes me super happy because it was my fave of the Bahamut designs. Reasons? 1. Robot. Obviously. I'm a sucker for robots. 2. I just love when names involve Zero. That's one of my primary aliases, so it's perfect.
Something I've noticed is that while cosmetically D&D's Bahamut hasn't changed much, his role in the official settings expanded over time. Originally he was just a god of good dragons, then he became the god of the pole star and a god of justice, then later he got a bit of a following with humans. And now in at least two of the official settings he's the primary Lawful Good god.
I thought he had already done one. I'll have to double check. Edit: I'm not finding one. Yep. He definitely needs to do one. White Mage is my favorite.
Bahamut also plays a significant role in the first season of Brave Exvius' story; serving as the penultimate summon one can learn up to that point in the game. Emphasis is also placed on his location as he has his own special island to explore and find him. There is even a quest to collect a bunch of rat tails.
Awesome video. Bahamut’s iterations in FFRK are some of the more interesting ones. In World of Final Fantasy, the name Bahamut is attributed to Brandelis and Tiababylo, themselves coming from a world of Bahamuts
Great video. Informative, well put together, and enjoyable to watch. Really hoping that you do other ones for all the main re-occurring summons like Ifrit and Shiva Also, for everyone in the comments requesting specific aeons/summons/espers/eidolons, unless the one you are asking for is in like, 10 out of the 15 main games, it's a pointless request "bruh, I love doomtrain, do him next!" HE IS IN ONE GAME! THERE IS NO EVOLUTION
Well, FFXIV is slightly different. That game has elements and light/dark aspect (which are not elements). Most FF games have Bahamut be non-elemental, and in FFXIV if Demi-Bahamut is anything to go by Bahamut is the same. However, we also know that Bahamut is dark-aspected.
It probably will be. Seeing as the names of the mothercrystals share the dragon theme you can assume that they all might come together to form Bahamut. Unless they wanna be different and use Midgardsormr which I would be equally fine with.
Dude, your data research capacity is always admirably crazy good! And yes please do this evolution video fore at least the major/main summons that appeared on every title in FF franchise. In particular, I am curious about what makes Quezacoatl (or what I usually called Ramuh's blanket snake,) replace Ramuh in ONLY FF8, and never to be heard of anymore (or is it? sometimes your data proof me wrong... LOL.) Anyway thanks for the knowledge, and please keep up the great work.
There is no better looking Bahamut than FFX, in fact most of the bests iterations of the summons come from X, and it also had the coolest new summon in Yojimbo.
Man. Bahamut has always been the COOLEST reoccurring Final Fantasy character in my opinion. I grew up with VII and having three forms of the mighty Dragon was so strong! After playing dozens of Final Fantasy titles, it's save to say I always look forward to seeing Bahamut again.
Really enjoyed the video! I've been creatively stagnant lately and I've been tryin to get the juices flowing by brainstorming how the mainline final fantasy games could work in a cohesive timeline and this really helps with that! I understand none of the games are actually connected but hey it's all in good fun
I remember my friend introducing me to final fantasy when I was young and the one thing that stuck with me was the bahamut summon that shot a beam from space. Badass
I still can't believe FF XII-2 picked, of all Bahamut variants to be a final boss, "Jet" Bahamut. Like, ahead of "Chaos" Bahamut...what makes a jet the ultimate version?
Very well done!! I really liked this new topic and the way you got into just how the game's versions of Bahamut have changed over time. Definitely would like to see more like this!
I really love Bahamut, it´s my favorite summon, and only reason I played summoner class in XIV. Also can´t wait to see what role will Bahamut have in XVI story, considering it will focus on summons.
Did I miss something in 15? Maybe that game just wasnt all that memorable or the fact I've only played it once, but I don't recall ever seeing Bahamut in that game. The only "summons" I can recall are. Ramuh, Shiva, and Leviathan.
@Rick Koontz FINAL FANTASY is not defined by Systems, but by Themes, Traits, Events, Art, and Music. Nice to show your true colors. And btw, I like MMORPGs exactly 0%, I have never even tried one outside of FINAL FANTASY, I don't have interest in them. I do love FINAL FANTASY though, and I do have an undying interest in it, unlike wannabee fans like you that just like specific systems in specific installments. FINAL FANTASY XIV shares the most traits with FINAL FANTASY as a whole out of any installment in the franchise's history, and that is an undisputable truth.
This was a fun and interesting watch. Being a huge fan of FF, it's nice to see all the bahamuts lined up and explored, especially since I'm an avid d&d player as well
That recent collab of Granblue Fantasy and Final Fantasy XI really is a gift to the OG FF fans that stayed in GBF community. FFXI brought Shinryu as the antagonist of the collab. Seeing this brought hope for future collab with SQenix other main series since most of the ingame mechanics are mostly similar to FF franchise games. Like the job system and summons.
What's even more amazing is how bahamut went even beyond dungeons and dragons and final fantasy. You could even say became part of a company logo. "Rebirth and Destruction Here at my command Rebirth and Destruction Again and again."
Great video as always. Absolutely cover more summons, it is very interesting! Another idea could be to cover different jobs/classes throughout the franchise and how they have changed.
FFX-2 was my first FF and first ever real turn based (except for Pokémon) RPG game and when I got to Bahamut..I really thought that he was the final boss and that I had to die or something for the game to continue lmfao I was just that amazed by him. Did beat him tho, but had to return the game back to my sister’s friend and so didn’t complete the game when I was 10.
As a side mention I would have also put CyGames Bahamut in there as, 1 it’s obviously based on the FF Bahamut and 2 CyGames has many former Square employees.
16s Bahamut would give 14s Bahamut a good fight. Tbh i still think if the 2 clashed, 14s would clap, especially when you consider Bahamut had Tempered other Primals
@@bahamut1169 16s Bahamut took out a chunk of a city while enraged. 14s warped the land into what we see today. it turned the flats of Cartenau into a landscape of plateaus and canyons. its also wildly intelligent, it knew how to beat The Twelve when they were summoned to seal it, and orchestrated its own release. It also Tempered the Phoenix, and it took Omega for the Allags to beat it (and beating Primals was there entire thing), its also been used as a battery for atleast 100,000 years, so its only been getting stronger, and angrier. so yeah. id say 15s Bahamut would clap 14s, but 16 isnt beating 14. infact in 14 you only fight its avatar, not the beast itself
My first encounter with this guy was in a demo for X-2 of all things that came with Playstation magazine. Boy was it dumbed down for how hard the actual boss battle was in the game. And the characters' reactions to a returned Aeon were awesome. Especially since we all knew, at the time anyway, he shouldn't have been there at all.
Final Fantasy XI brought Bahamut to his full glory again, where he leads the Grand Wyrms and seeks to intercede on the world's behalf in the fight against the Emptiness, Promathia, and Shinryu.

I do wish you covered the additional Bahamut lore from the FF XV novel where he moves to active antagonist.
I wish the game was finished in general 😭💔
@@angelgard ikr! They canceled the DLC 😣😭
there's a novel?
@@bryansuminski7543 yep! Go check out : Final Fantasy XV Dawn of the future
It's awesome that I've found a channel that loves all the little details & idiosyncrasies that flow throughout the series just like I do. Y'all are THE BEST source for all things Final Fantasy on UA-cam, and I appreciate the level of detail and depth you go to on all of your videos. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Very solid content as always :) I can't wait to see how Bahamut will be pictured in FFXVI. Considering the importance of summons in the trailer, you know he has to appear.
And boy did it deliver 😳
@@HaykInWonderlandyeah..i was like Wooaah 😮
This was great! I'd love more Summon videos.
One of my favorite concepts is all the "unique" Summons, or ones that appear in just 1 or 2 games.
Very nice video. I myself don't really play much FF, but I do like watching playthroughs of the games, and reading up on the lore. Heard of Bahamut quite a bit, but didn't really know too much about him, so thank you making this video, really helped me get a better understanding of the Dragon King's appearances.
These videos are so well done man. Holy. You guys never disappoint.
I loved it! I can't wait to see who ya do next!!!
One of the best videos yet! Keep up the phenomenal work!!
Thanks Tanooki! We'll try our best :) ~Darryl
The visuals of such 90s games are shinier and brighter than my future and current technology itself combined
I know you guys maybe won't see this comment! But I feel so happy seeing some of my images and information used from FFWiki in this video for the Dimensions II and 4 Heroes of Light entries on your video! I feel really happy seeing that my contributions were used in some fashion to your videos! 😊
FF16 Bahamut
Uses Zettaflare
Donald: finally the king has shed his scales, I can finally take a rest and give the mantle as the strongest being in the FF universe to Bahamut.
a simple explanation, In FF14 a single Terraflare can destroy a whole civilization, Zettaflare is 1 billion times stronger than Terraflare
Well in final fantasy 7 remake bahamut arisen is the strongest
Who is your favorite summon in Final Fantasy?
Them: Bahamu--
Me: DOOM TRAAAAAIN!
2 years later, we finally got a Bahamut canonically stronger than an angry duck mage.
Bahamut EVEN GOT HIS OWN SPINOFF, Bahamut's Lagoon.
bahamut in FF8 was always my favorite... his intro thru the clouds never fails to make me happy and excited...
More like this please! Loved this breakdown.
Please do evaluation of White mage. I’ve been waiting for like two years for it.
Amazing video. I've always thought Bahamut was one of the best of the summons throughout the FF realm. Thanks for casting light on him.
Really hoping that you do other ones for all the main re-occurring summons like Ifrit and Shiva
Also, for everyone in the comments requesting specific aeons/summons/espers/eidolons, unless the one you are asking for is in like, 10 out of the 15 main games, it's a pointless request
"bruh, I love doomtrain, do him next!" HE IS IN ONE GAME! THERE IS NO EVOLUTION
I hope you do one of my favorite summon, Alexander, some day.
Yesssss! Do one on Ifrit next!
You missed something super important about FFXIV Bahamut. He's the darkness summon rather than the usual un-aspected.
This is exactly what I needed to watch today
I like to see Bahamut as a huge dragon again on FF16 not a huge knight in dragon armor.
Yeah if ain't broke don't fix it, dragons are badass in any medium or genre.
It probably will be. Seeing as the names of the mothercrystals share the dragon theme you can assume that they all might come together to form Bahamut. Unless they wanna be different and use Midgardsormr which I would be equally fine with.
Given that much of FFXVI’s team worked on FFXIV, it’s safe to assume that Bahamut will at least be a huge dragon in that game.
@@NN010 Yeah I figure as much.
I'm 3 years late to the party on this video but I feel it was very excellently done and I enjoyed every minute of it thank you
my fav summon and creature in final fantasy
Bahamut in XVI is insane 🤯
Eikon Bahamut, love him in XVI but sadly isn’t the strongest iteration as that goes to Bahamut ZERO & Prime
@@Jumonjiidk i've never seen zero and prime use zettaflare
@@Fall-oo6mt never said they used it
@@Jumonji exactly
zettaflare is kind of the strongest attack bahamut has ever used
@@Fall-oo6mt Exa-Flare is actually the strongest attack from Bahamut Fury since he's top 5, Eikon Bahamut with Zetta-Flare is up there in the top 10
Really enjoyed the video! I've been creatively stagnant lately and I've been tryin to get the juices flowing by brainstorming how the mainline final fantasy games could work in a cohesive timeline and this really helps with that! I understand none of the games are actually connected but hey it's all in good fun
Good stuff! Get to delving more. We'll be waiting for that quality content!
Bahamut has always been and always will be my favorite aeon. Not just because he's the most powerful...he's just incredible.
Hey! You did not talk about the World of Final Fantasy Bahamut, and why the main antagonist is a Bahamut.
I absolutely love this video, thank you. I was writing and wanted to put Bahamut in it and this helped me with that
This was so well done, thanks
Outstanding video, Bahamut was always my favorite summon
Love the hymn of the faith in the background as well as the others, gotta love final fantasy !
I really love Bahamut, it´s my favorite summon, and only reason I played summoner class in XIV. Also can´t wait to see what role will Bahamut have in XVI story, considering it will focus on summons.
He is pretty dang cool in XVI 🙂
@@zoruasnivy Ah I can't wait to play ffxvi
Did I miss something in 15? Maybe that game just wasnt all that memorable or the fact I've only played it once, but I don't recall ever seeing Bahamut in that game. The only "summons" I can recall are. Ramuh, Shiva, and Leviathan.
FF14 bahamut is the only one that has meaning, a serious theme with it and a non-generic boss battle/esper battle theme.
@Rick Koontz I assume you don't play then? Good, we don't want to deal with that kind of toxic attitude.
@raventhorX Don't forget that you shouldn't feed the trolls. You'll never get rid if them if you do.
@Rick Koontz Best FINAL FANTASY, JRPG, and MMORPG of all time.
Definitely better than your favorite.
Also most powerful Bahamut, both of them.
@Rick Koontz FINAL FANTASY XIV is more FINAL FANTASY than your favorite.
Being a huge fan of FF, it's nice to see all the bahamuts lined up and explored, especially since I'm an avid d&d player as well
All these badass interpretations of Bahamut and then FF14 comes along and gives him tiny T-rex arms
We need updated version of this 😊
I wish you described the designs more
That recent collab of Granblue Fantasy and Final Fantasy XI really is a gift to the OG FF fans that stayed in GBF community.
"Rebirth and Destruction
Here at my command
Rebirth and Destruction
Again and again."
I love all of y'all's evolution videos.
Amazing compilation, analysis, adn recap! Top notch historian work here my man.
One of the best Evolution videos yet.
Great video! I love that you use the artwork from cards in MobiusFF, the only mobile game I'll always miss!
Fun fact: Bahamut was actually a whale/fish (depending on translation) from Arabic legends that carries that land of the world on its back
Great video as always.
I still wonder how so many people had X-2 as the first. Why?
As a side mention I would have also put CyGames Bahamut in there as, 1 it’s obviously based on the FF Bahamut and 2 CyGames has many former Square employees.
Ah Yess my favorite summon
This is a wonderful video and I'd love to see more dives into the evolution of other summons!
Bahamut in Granblue Fantasy is pretty cool too.
I think that’s the main picture in the thumbnail
REBIRTH AND DESTRUCTION
16s Bahamut would give 14s Bahamut a good fight. Tbh i still think if the 2 clashed, 14s would clap, especially when you consider Bahamut had Tempered other Primals
14s bahamut is that strong?
Love this video. Good job guys. Next I hope its either Leviathan or Ifrit
Cant wait for GBF Re:link Proto and Ultimate Bahamut raid.
Final Fantasy XI brought Bahamut to his full glory again, where he leads the Grand Wyrms and seeks to intercede on the world's behalf in the fight against the Emptiness, Promathia, and Shinryu.
