Bahamut is one of the most recognisable summons in the Final Fantasy franchise, having appeared in almost every Final Fantasy game ever made.
This has seen Bahamut appear as a Summon, an Esper, an Eidolon and an Eikon and he's had a major presence within games such as Final Fantasy XI and XIV. What's interesting though, is the common threads that tie Bahamut together, outside of him being a huge dragon that dominates the sky and uses Megaflare!

Does this mean that the other summons will get videos of their own?
Yes. I only recently (a month or so ago) discovered you Job evolution videos and loved them. I immediately searched your channel for evolution videos for summons but was disappointed not to find one. I therefore (after watching your job evolution videos) searched youtube for some summon lore videos and while there were a couple of good ones, I was disappointed to find very little that were put together as well as your videos. When I saw this come up on my feed yesterday I got very excited. Keep up the good work. Could I request you steer away from doing Shiva or Ifrit early on as there are already tonnes of lore videos for those two specifically. My personal request would be to do Odin next please.
this just minor issue, but probably you should reviewed the subtitle, as the way you pronounced bahamut, the sub showed 'muhammad' instead quite few times. thanks.
BROnion Knight Funny that you bring that up. Turns out that Bahamut (the fish) is a creature of Middle Eastern origin. So I find the error oddly appropriate.
An idea, mabey timeline videos of entire final Fantasy universes, like the complete history of the world of FF9, or 7,or 15,14,etc?....just an idea
I find it funny that the DnD version of Bahamut is essentially the goodest boy there ever was and then there’s FF Bahamut and he’s just like: feeling good, might wipe out humanity later.
The ff14 one "yeah fuck these guys I'm going to nuke them into a new timeline"
@@siffumetsu271 the original Bahamut was a benevolent soul as part of the first brood. The Bahamut that wants to kill us is just a primal summoned in his image.
To be fair. Bahamut in FFXIV (Final Fantasy 14) didn’t start off that way. He and his consort Tiamat raised their young in a far off land then he died and dark forces twisted his mind. (I’m still learning the lore but he was kind at the start)
@@Oiamh_TheWolf18 the Dalamund bahamut was a primal summoned by dragons. The Asians tricked them into it because the dragons thought it would revive him, not a twisted version that try to destroy the world.
@@cardboard5689 the Asians eh
I am actually interested in learning about the Elemental Trio, Ifrit, Shiva, and Ramuh
Ixion is better than ramuh
@@gejamugamlatsoomanam7716 Ramuh and Ixion combined is a thing to, First Boss of the actual Raidtier in FF14 xD
Well, for starters, Ifrit is based on an Arabic djinn which is probably based on an Assyrian deity (I forget which). Shiva is probably based on a Persian female deity by the same name and/or a male Hindu deity of the same name that is depict in blue and prefers colder climates (probably a combination of both) and Ramuh is based on the Hindu deity Indra the king of gods and controls storms.
Papa Haumaut is more interesting honestly
@@gejamugamlatsoomanam7716 ixion has no personality, even valefor is showcased more than ixion.
Ramuh is shown more personality and is an actual character in ff9, plus he just looks so much more powerful.
Honestly, when it comes to Final Fantasy X, I used Bahamut more than any other Aeon. His ability to basically operate the same way as a regular character, due to the amount of spells he could learn, made him the best one imo.

I really appreciate that you take the time to meaningfully include XI in all your videos. It often seems like players separate it from the main series and talk of it as thought it were a spin-off rather than a fully envisioned entry all on its own.

Depend on what kind of Bahamut, Best Bahamut from FFX, worst Bahamut from FFXV
@@thoaihoquang1578 the kind with wings ;)
Fun fact, in D&D Bahamut has always been Ice element and has 3 breath weapons: Cold Cone as his main one, a Gas Cone that stuns and turns the enemies into gaseous form and a Disintegration Beam, quite similar to Mega Flare but it's an instakill effect line that does half the regular breath dmg as non elemental if saved.
from what i know, at least in 5e Bahamut is associated with radiant damage
@@heitorpimenta6504 Very fitting, he is supposed to be the holiest of paladins but...a dragon too.
Older editions had radiant dmg as holy which was reserved for turning undead and fire/light/sun mid to high level cleric spells against undead and fiends like devils, daemons and demons.
It was pretty much unresistable but you also rolled higher dice when used against those types like going from 1d6 to 1d8 per lvl and 1d10 against undead.
Against normal creatures it was just normal dice but unresistable.
5e version is cooler imo, he's a unique dragon (platinum) so having a unique breath (radiant) is much more fitting as he doesn't seem cold on any way. My favorite role was a dragonborn paladin, nothing more fitting than that
Bahamut from X is my personal favourite.
Bahamut in X is the most badass one
These are awesome! I cant imagine how long it takes to compile and organize all the information. Great job!
Bahamut in Type0 was so damn badass and the fact that you get to control it is even more amazing!
I know he isn't from a main game but I loved Caius Ballard's Bahamut. The idea of an incarnate summoning was brilliant.
Yes, Caius rules.
My first instance with Bahamut was in X and he was super badass.
Mine was in FF7 and it was glorious
Guys what's the difference between bahamut and bahamut fury. Are they independent or the same summons
Mine was VIII. Still my favorite version is X. This Egyptian/Aztec look of his is awesome.
Mine was XV pretty neat.
UHH, FFX is the worst in the series. Looks like a bird.
The visuals of such 90s games are shinier and brighter than my future and current technology itself combined
Always quality content on this channel
Thank you so much for the kind words Travis!
Final Fantasy Union wow, thank you so much for even acknowledging my comment. Thought the little thing I said wouldn’t mean much to you guys, but I’m super grateful and happy that you appreciated it! You guys are incredible content creators, that’s why I’m so shocked. Always look forward to the surprises from you all in my feed.
16 has the coolest bahamut fight in the series
Your "Evolution of" series is, IMO, the most interesting thing your channel does. I really loved your Red Mage, Black Mage, Dragoon etc. videos, too. It would be cool if you did a comparison video on Ninja and Thief, two closely related classes which are sometimes linked (FF1, 14) and sometimes separate
19:33 "And displayed clear antagonistic qualities"
a nice way of saying Bahamut went crazy psycho batshit crazy
bahumut did nothing wrong.
did you see those barrels lol
Need a separate video for a more comprehensive lore on FF14's bahamut!
It's a really good story for sure, hope you managed to get atleast a basic storyline on it.
One of Tiamat's heads disliked the video.
2 years later, we finally got a Bahamut canonically stronger than an angry duck mage.
I love how these videos also show the evolution of the series. I honestly love them!
Also i would like to see a Crystal Chronicles video in the near future. It can be on anything about them! :)
He did a few of them a couple of videos back
This was great! I'd love more Summon videos.
One of my favorite concepts is all the "unique" Summons, or ones that appear in just 1 or 2 games.
Okay, so to know that Bahamut ZERO in FF7 was only surpassed by Knights of Round in strength makes me super happy because it was my fave of the Bahamut designs.
Reasons?
1. Robot. Obviously. I'm a sucker for robots.
2. I just love when names involve Zero. That's one of my primary aliases, so it's perfect.
Well in final fantasy 7 remake bahamut arisen is the strongest
Ahh FFX Dark Bahamut...you got in my way for that final piece to obtain Tidus’s celestial weapon. Had to pay my boi Yojimbo most my gil so he could take you out in one swing. Thank you, Yojimbo.
Empty Melodies Yojimbo: No problem...
[holds out hand]
Now where’s my money?
Ye good thing you can get it right after Yunalesca, but if you miss it you are fucked.
Yojimbo is a real one
You don't need to pay him that much money his attack is base on RNG despite whatever you pay him.
@@danburgs yup and it's still had RNG on it so does not matter how much you spend.
I knew the name came from a fish from middle eastern mythology but I didn't know how that made the jump to being a dragon in FF lore. I had no idea the direct inspiration was from D&D. Very informative.
would be interresting to see more summons. My first instance with Bahamut was in FF7, I think all three versions are badass, my favorite was Bahamut Zero
To this day those versions have hardly been topped.
Who is your favorite summon in Final Fantasy?
Them: Bahamu--
Me: DOOM TRAAAAAIN!
Bahamut is probably my favorite dragon from any piece of fantasy great video 👍
Something I've noticed is that while cosmetically D&D's Bahamut hasn't changed much, his role in the official settings expanded over time. Originally he was just a god of good dragons, then he became the god of the pole star and a god of justice, then later he got a bit of a following with humans. And now in at least two of the official settings he's the primary Lawful Good god.
Very solid content as always :) I can't wait to see how Bahamut will be pictured in FFXVI. Considering the importance of summons in the trailer, you know he has to appear.
And boy did it deliver 😳
@@HaykInWonderlandyeah..i was like Wooaah 😮
If you're planning on covering more summons, I'd suggest the trio of Ramuh, Shiva, and Ifrit next, either individually or in tandem, with Shiva first because she's my favorite.
Yes! Primary black magic element trio summon!
TianaSidhe Though Ramuh was occasionally swapped out for a different summon. Specifically Ixion and the Aztec Feathered Serpent whose name I can’t spell. Do those get merged into one video?
Very nice video. I myself don't really play much FF, but I do like watching playthroughs of the games, and reading up on the lore. Heard of Bahamut quite a bit, but didn't really know too much about him, so thank you making this video, really helped me get a better understanding of the Dragon King's appearances.
Smaug: I am fire. I am...death!
Bahamut: Hold my beer.
Fatalis: Hold my fucking whiskey.
Wow. We know Bahamut is strong af but pls no disrespect to classic dragons espcially from Tolkien's work. Lot of FF materials were directly and indirectly from Tolkien works.
@Mr. SaladSpork Smaug didn't really suck. He just unfortunately appeared in a kid's book. He was the iconic dragon. It just so happened that he ain't the strongest as he was just a fire drake IIRC. And yes, Glaurung would totally be a good match against Bahamut but I believe Ancalagon is a better match against Bahamut because of the wings.
@@TheBukoStudio Look, I like Tolkien's works for what they are as well, but you're holding him in WAY too high a regard if you feel that he and any of his creations are somehow above taking a shit on. Tolkien was annoyed at the fantasy kitchen sink that C.S. Lewis cobbled together in his Narnia series, but he _really_ wasn't in any kinda position to act in any at all way holier-than-thou considering his bastardisation of Scandinavian and Germanic folklore. Me, I'd personally fully compare what Tolkien did with his works to what Disney did to Hellenistic mythology with their Hercules flick, or what Marvel Comics did to Norse mythology. (Did you know that the OG classical Thor of Norse mythology had a badass beard and was a ginger, and NOT, in fact, some nazi's clean-shaven and towheaded aryan wet dream?) So as someone with a bit of an obsession with folklore and mythology, do you know what I say to your "pls no disrespect to classic dragons espcially from Tolkien's work"? I say "To hell with Tolkien and fuck all of the classic beings from all of his collective works." And it's not without reason that I say this: What he did to the portrayal of fair folk/elves, dark elves/dwarfs and _especially_ wights was actually an absolutely _horrid_ desecration of their mythological and folkloric roots, and he's caused harmful ripples that have _defined_ our portrayals of these beings for decades and can still be keenly seen and felt in almost all modern fantasy works, from D&D and FF to a thousand different anime and manga series.
Ancalagon the Black exists. All the dragon related arguments here are invalid.
bahamut in FF8 was always my favorite... his intro thru the clouds never fails to make me happy and excited...
I'm really looking forward to seeing what other videos in this same vein that you have planned to do. It's awesome that I've found a channel that loves all the little details & idiosyncrasies that flow throughout the series just like I do. Y'all are THE BEST source for all things Final Fantasy on UA-cam, and I appreciate the level of detail and depth you go to on all of your videos. Keep up the awesome work!!!
I know you guys maybe won't see this comment! But I feel so happy seeing some of my images and information used from FFWiki in this video for the Dimensions II and 4 Heroes of Light entries on your video! I feel really happy seeing that my contributions were used in some fashion to your videos! 😊
Awesome video. Bahamut’s iterations in FFRK are some of the more interesting ones. In World of Final Fantasy, the name Bahamut is attributed to Brandelis and Tiababylo, themselves coming from a world of Bahamuts
I remember my friend introducing me to final fantasy when I was young and the one thing that stuck with me was the bahamut summon that shot a beam from space. Badass
These videos are so well done man. Holy. You guys never disappoint.
I'd like to see Alexander's Evolution next
Same same hes my favorite summon

Bahamut also plays a significant role in the first season of Brave Exvius' story; serving as the penultimate summon one can learn up to that point in the game. Emphasis is also placed on his location as he has his own special island to explore and find him. There is even a quest to collect a bunch of rat tails.
Man. Bahamut has always been the COOLEST reoccurring Final Fantasy character in my opinion.
I grew up with VII and having three forms of the mighty Dragon was so strong!
After playing dozens of Final Fantasy titles, it's save to say I always look forward to seeing Bahamut again.

Like- I know it's an alternate ending, but I forget whether or not they actually change stuff around to match it. If that's the case, Bahamut's character in the book may not exactly align to his character in the game.
Dude, your data research capacity is always admirably crazy good! And yes please do this evolution video fore at least the major/main summons that appeared on every title in FF franchise. In particular, I am curious about what makes Quezacoatl (or what I usually called Ramuh's blanket snake,) replace Ramuh in ONLY FF8, and never to be heard of anymore (or is it? sometimes your data proof me wrong... LOL.) Anyway thanks for the knowledge, and please keep up the great work.

This is exactly what I needed to watch today
FF16 Bahamut
Uses Zettaflare
Donald: finally the king has shed his scales, I can finally take a rest and give the mantle as the strongest being in the FF universe to Bahamut.

Could you do an update with FFXVI, included and maybe other things you have found! Love the content keep it up!
Indeed that's what I told him to do
Amazing video. I've always thought Bahamut was one of the best of the summons throughout the FF realm. Thanks for casting light on him.
I hope you do one of my favorite summon, Alexander, some day.
Nice! Does this mean you’ll do videos on the other summons too?
Thought the same thing would like to see shiva lol
Did you listen to the last 30 seconds of the video? they asked that if you wanted to see that you should let them know in the comments so then they can see what the interest is
Aaron Skoby asking this question is a clear hint at them wanting it, right? So whats with the attitude?
Not Zekkyou It’s okay. I kind of didn’t watch the video yet (I had other stuff to do). I jumped the gun, afraid that it would be a missed opportunity.
They were asking at the end if we wanted more and the answer is of course
There is no better looking Bahamut than FFX, in fact most of the bests iterations of the summons come from X, and it also had the coolest new summon in Yojimbo.
Cool I was always wondering why the hell they interpreted bahamut as a dragon . Now explain why Shiva is a sexy ice queen instead epic party murder wrestler god. Regular Shiva was insane
I honestly thought he was 😆
And bahahaha on shiva
what if someone wanted a story that had a shiva, that is merged version of regular shiva and ff shiva.

Bahamut has always been and always will be my favorite aeon. Not just because he's the most powerful...he's just incredible.
Fun fact: Bahamut was actually a whale/fish (depending on translation) from Arabic legends that carries that land of the world on its back
Really enjoyed the video! I've been creatively stagnant lately and I've been tryin to get the juices flowing by brainstorming how the mainline final fantasy games could work in a cohesive timeline and this really helps with that! I understand none of the games are actually connected but hey it's all in good fun
More like this please! Loved this breakdown.
Great video. Informative, well put together, and enjoyable to watch. Really hoping that you do other ones for all the main re-occurring summons like Ifrit and Shiva
Also, for everyone in the comments requesting specific aeons/summons/espers/eidolons, unless the one you are asking for is in like, 10 out of the 15 main games, it's a pointless request
"bruh, I love doomtrain, do him next!" HE IS IN ONE GAME! THERE IS NO EVOLUTION
What's even more amazing is how bahamut went even beyond dungeons and dragons and final fantasy. You could even say became part of a company logo.
"Rebirth and Destruction
Here at my command
Rebirth and Destruction
Again and again."
Very well done!! I really liked this new topic and the way you got into just how the game's versions of Bahamut have changed over time. Definitely would like to see more like this!
You missed something super important about FFXIV Bahamut. He's the darkness summon rather than the usual un-aspected.
Well, FFXIV is slightly different. That game has elements and light/dark aspect (which are not elements). Most FF games have Bahamut be non-elemental, and in FFXIV if Demi-Bahamut is anything to go by Bahamut is the same. However, we also know that Bahamut is dark-aspected.
We really need an update that covers FF16 now
Good stuff! Get to delving more. We'll be waiting for that quality content!
This was a fun and interesting watch. Being a huge fan of FF, it's nice to see all the bahamuts lined up and explored, especially since I'm an avid d&d player as well
FFX-2 was my first FF and first ever real turn based (except for Pokémon) RPG game and when I got to Bahamut..I really thought that he was the final boss and that I had to die or something for the game to continue lmfao I was just that amazed by him. Did beat him tho, but had to return the game back to my sister’s friend and so didn’t complete the game when I was 10.
I still wonder how so many people had X-2 as the first. Why?
All these badass interpretations of Bahamut and then FF14 comes along and gives him tiny T-rex arms
Love the hymn of the faith in the background as well as the others, gotta love final fantasy !
my fav summon and creature in final fantasy
My first encounter with this guy was in a demo for X-2 of all things that came with Playstation magazine. Boy was it dumbed down for how hard the actual boss battle was in the game.
And the characters' reactions to a returned Aeon were awesome. Especially since we all knew, at the time anyway, he shouldn't have been there at all.
I absolutely love this video, thank you. I was writing and wanted to put Bahamut in it and this helped me with that

That recent collab of Granblue Fantasy and Final Fantasy XI really is a gift to the OG FF fans that stayed in GBF community. FFXI brought Shinryu as the antagonist of the collab. Seeing this brought hope for future collab with SQenix other main series since most of the ingame mechanics are mostly similar to FF franchise games. Like the job system and summons.

16s Bahamut would give 14s Bahamut a good fight. Tbh i still think if the 2 clashed, 14s would clap, especially when you consider Bahamut had Tempered other Primals
14s bahamut is that strong?
@@bahamut1169 16s Bahamut took out a chunk of a city while enraged. 14s warped the land into what we see today. it turned the flats of Cartenau into a landscape of plateaus and canyons. its also wildly intelligent, it knew how to beat The Twelve when they were summoned to seal it, and orchestrated its own release. It also Tempered the Phoenix, and it took Omega for the Allags to beat it (and beating Primals was there entire thing), its also been used as a battery for atleast 100,000 years, so its only been getting stronger, and angrier. so yeah. id say 15s Bahamut would clap 14s, but 16 isnt beating 14. infact in 14 you only fight its avatar, not the beast itself
