I've been doing my own ends for 30+ years & was taught by the old timers this is Exactly how to properly install a PL259 solder on connector. This is the only video I have seen that was done correctly. Nice work man Thanks!
Great, easy to follow video! I've noticed that many american videos showing this prefer tinning and soldering the braid to the collar, although screwing the connector down onto it as you've done clearly ensures a tight fit,
Always best to rather tin the braid and solder via the spaces provided on the 259, I have found that time causes a poor connection this way. Also have had cases where the thread has actually cut the copper braid to almost nothing.
Not correct! The outer braid should be Soldered to the body of the 259. That's what the hole in the body is for. Its quit a skill to do it. Without solder the connection will become unreliable over time
This way used to work with older PL 259 connectors easily, but the current batches of cheap Chinese PL 259's wont fit on this way without sacrificing too much of the shield braid, that is if your using half decent 213.
@@HAMRADIOSTATION-ON6ZK-Hansyes it is. There is a reason there are 4 holes so you can solder the braid. It makes a solid electrical connection. Your method may work initially but the chance of failure down the road is high.
You are cutting the copper braid, as there is not much of it-cheap 213. Tin the centre conductor first, a solid connection is key especially if you are running power. It's poor technique that lets a station down, this is not how you prepare a 259, perhaps tv guys do but not real ham radio guys. Maybe check some of the other UA-cam methods as you will certainly see the corners being cut doing it this way.

Thanks. Good video. I did these in the Navy 50 years ago. Needed a refresher.

that is only a friction fit with the braids you got to solder the braid

best and practical are two different dogs fighting in a sleeping bag

Thank you!
Not soldering the braid is wrong!
no it is not wrong !

Only two ways to connect. Solder or crimp. This method is easy but subject to failure.

Are these 239s removable?.
yes
