Jim, Finally received the two pack rotary coax stripper and all I can say is, why did I wait so long. It works like a treat. Just some minor blade adjustments and three turns the job is done. :-)
hey Jim, Got a problem. I bought a big spool of coax a few years ago, there are no indicators telling me what ohm it is. Do you have any videos showing how to test coax ( not for continuity ) for ohms. I was told it was 52 ohm (2099 stuff) but it looks like cable TV stuff. How do I test it?

Too many times we attempt to use our hands as vices or holders which is a mistake. It's difficult and unstable to use hands as vices while simultaneously using fingers as tools. It's best to put project work on a table or in a vice or stable holder so your hands are free to be used as your "ultimate tools". -73
I purchased some solder type PL259 connectors for my RG213 Coax. I am having a hell of a time and wish now that I had known about the crimp type. That said, my connectors have three parts; the barrel, the body and a ferrule which is threaded and screws into the body. The ferrule does not come close to fitting over the RG213 outside insulation. I am able to install the connector by simply not using the ferrule but perhaps I do not understand something basic? If I knew your store address I would love to buy the crimping tool you recommend...
Soldering to RG-213 used to be good but these days the core insulation just melts with heating to ensure good solder connection from plug body holes onto braid, have given up and now use the compression type PL259s 73 Tony G3ZRJ
Question on coax, what will be the upside and downside to using 75 ohm coax as a feed line to my hopefully soon HF dipole antenna farm? Will the antennas usable bandwidth be wider or narrower, SWR curve smoother or bigger. I understand that a dipole antenna is around 73 ohms, so thats my reason for this question. Perhaps a video. THK
The impedance depends, in part, on its height above ground. If the antenna is close to 75 ohms, that will work good. The tuner in your transceiver can take care of the match at that end. And yes, I think the bandwidth for a 2:1 SWR will be broader. Thanks & 73, Jim W6LG
A few things. I'd advise to put the collar etc on first, before you do anything. I'd also make it clear to people not to score the copper in any way. Then when you take off the dielectric, avoid stretching it, this must affect the properties of the coax to some degree. I know it's difficult, I have had the same problem. And I would trim the centre conductor prior to soldering with an emphasis on temperature control and making sure the solder flows and takes. I like to finish this style of connector with some glue type heatshrink to waterproof that part and give extra support, particularly on RG58.
I was hoping to find one /for RG11. It's been a long since I've 11. I don't remember the centr conductors being so small. Making a phasing harness and I wish I could use RG6.It's Belden 8238. The center conductors break as you're working with them. There's got to be a trick 73

Hello Jim. I just got my licence for the first time and ordered some LMR-400 cable and some PL259 connectors. They are great quality connectors, but they are not crimp connectors. Are the crimp connectors offering any benefits or its just a personal preference? I hope to meet you on the air some day KD9HBU.
Hi, Crimp connectors are great. I sell both kinds. There is a much better connection to the braid of the coax. I only use the crimp type on my station. I like the Teflon & silver plated type. 73, Jim W6LG

Jim, It would be betterr to tin the center conductor and the pin of the connector first. I makes a better solder joint and reduces the heat on the coax. Great job You metioned you had some charts from 1920 of 'Q' signals. Is there such a signal as 'QQQ' ??? I heard that in WW-1 it was used at sea as the signal that you had been stopped by an armed merchant ship ( a Q ship ) Also shoud 'SOS' be sent at 5 WPM, so it would stand out from the other traffic on air ??? 73, Joe K7GW
