As a Reds fan, I can say that we’re currently in a “growing” stage. Even with all of the incredible young talent, and a weak division, I still don’t see us winning the division this year… …that being said, what I can tell you is that this team has put hope and belief back into the Reds future. Elly De La Cruz for example, seems to have one weakness, which is command at the plate. He strikes out *a lot,* but is only 21. He has plenty of time to improve as a player, as does the team as a whole. The one thing the team desperately needs as a whole is improved pitching, especially starting pitching. Rookies have shown to be strong in our bullpen so far, but starting pitching is an enormous question mark. Then again, we have a few starters out to injury, but my point still stands. We have young guys ( and a couple vets ) that will be either struggling to get AB's with this Reds team or will be in Louisville. We also have 10 MILLION prospects 9 mostly SS's for some reason ) in our system that are killing it. Greinke makes $8.3 mil, Chapman makes $ 3.5 both 1 year deals and Royals will have already paid more than half their salaries by the trade deadline. So for KC, it's either trade them at the deadline or they walk and you get nothing in return. I don't think it would take much to land both of them. The value Greinke would add just mentoring this young staff is immeasurable...and adding Chapman's arm to that bullpen might give us "Nasty Boys 2.0 " ! @@soarabove337 Honestly, I've put some thought into what I'm about to say. Three things can kill a rally Strikeouts, Double Plays and this next one doesn't necessarily 'kill" a rally...but, how often have you seen a team 3 runs down and a guy hits a 2 run dinger and the next 3 guys go down ? Sometimes HR's can kill a rally. So, if given the chance of choosing between having a lineup with "some" speed and a couple guys that could hit 50 HR's but also strikeout a lot ( Olson, Schwarber ) or a team that is loaded with guys that ALL have speed, all make good contact, most handle the bat well enough to bunt and hit behind the runner when called for...and while none of them will hit 50 HR's, most of them are gonna have a ton of XBH's ! I gotta take the second team because since they have great team speed and don't strike out a lot...they AIN'T gonna slump ! Also, some other advantages of team 2 is because they have great plate discipline they make pitchers work and will get starting pitchers out of games earlier than other teams will just because of higher pitch counts. Add to that the havoc they can wreak forcing errors with their speed along with once on base having the pitchers attention divided between the base - runner and the hitter. So the clincher for me is while team one could have guys slump and go into 3, 4, 5 game losing streaks. I don't think you're gonna see that much with team 2 and all that speed !
Great video. Don’t forget Andrew Abbott also how, if memory serves me, hadn’t allowed a run in his first 3 or 4 starts and had like idk 12-13 strikeouts the other day. Dude is nasty good.
Old guy here: I remember the 1990 Reds, that team seemed to come out of nowhere. If you look up articles about that team, it’s about how much of surprise they were. Everyone thought Oakland was going to beat them with ease. But it was the Reds who swept. There are parallels between between this team and the 1990 team
Well, definitely parallels… I can’t wait to bust the similarities bc they’re (nearly!) so spot-on vs that team. Then again, a good team the year before, a legit wire-to-wire season… it’s where we have to fight for the stories. That team started the year with exactly what this team lacked: SP. Jack Armstrong was truly the All-American Boy. Got us through the ASB. But 3 amazing SPs, plus some call-ups, plus a BP that can only be called “Nasty” kept us there when the bats went cold. #ATOBTTR #GoReds
There's a lot more than the guys you mentioned Will Benson, Andrew Abbott, Kevin Newman, a finally healthy Nick Senzel have all been big, unexpected contributors...and the SCARIEST part is the Reds have Christian Encarnation -Strand, Noelvi Marte, Henry Ramos, Reece Hinds ALL tearing it up in the minors. I know a lot of people think they won't be SERIOUS contenders this season BUT with the wealth of talent at both the big league and Minor League level they could deal for another starting pitcher ( Zack Greinke ) or 2, and one more quality ( Aroldis Chapman ) relief pitcher without gutting the MLB club OR their MILB pipeline. The way our Bullpen has pitched this season if you could add Chapman as an 7th or 8th inning guy to what we have now....we could have "Nasty Boys 2.0 "! If we're leading after the 6th inning...game over ! Add a Greinke or another Bronson Arroyo type starter that you know is gonna give you 5 quality innings EVERY start...forget about it ! I love Greinke, because he's been there, done that and the value he would add to this young staff as a mentor would be invaluable !
@@elbob17 Oh yeah, and let's not forget we could still deal Barrero as well. I think we actually have enough to get 2 good, quality starters ( not shut down HOF type of guys but give you 5 innings and keep you in the game type starters ) and a Very good set -up guy without hurting the future.
I watched I was watching the o's series I game 3 was a great game when I saw the will benson triple de la Cruz single and sunzels hr I'm liking this team in the future as an reds fan
The Reds got momentum this year. No need to mortgage the future if they don't make it, they don't make it. Ride with what you got one, if not two more years, then start bolstering the weaknesses (which will still likely be the SP even in two years).
This team is such a fun watch, love watching teams build up around young talent. Alexis Diaz has been huge for them and I’m happy to see him doing so well
Joseph Daniel Votto Still Bangs! I would love it for Votto if this team could make a deep playoff run with him still hitting like a late prime player within the next two years. Pitching is, and always will be, the difficult part for a team that plays in the Great American Small Park. This team has offensive talent, and confidence in buckets, partially because the park turns a lot of flyouts into doubles and homers. To pitch in this ballpark takes a different kind of mentality for a pitcher whereby you have to *try* to keep the ball on the ground and in the park, but not completely unravel when you give up 6 runs in 5 innings. Think Mike Leake (even though he felt more valuable with the bat than on the mound in some of his starts). If you get guys who can pitch through a shellacking during their home starts, they're going to have the run support to end a season with 17 wins and a 5ish ERA.
Lifelong reds fan here and boy is this fun. I think they can win the division and win the wild card series. I doubt they have the formidable pitching to compete with another playoff teams top 3 so unlikely they win the division series. But they will not be done.
Even though weavers era is very below average they haven’t lost on his last 6 starts and with abbot hopefully being a solid starter lodolo and Greene coming back they have a very bright future
I remember the 1991 season the Braves went to the world series after being terrible the year before, the Reds lost 100 games last year and now they are in first place this year...
There's an old saying in baseball, "Good pitching will stop good hitting. With the largest era in baseball, doesn't bode well for a a 180 game season, so it's a moot point to say they need to make a trade before dead line which means India is gone. My other point which remains to be seen, but my dad taught me back in the day when I was a boy going to Riverfront to watch the Big Red Machine. He always said this about rookies that were splintering the ball all over, " wait until by the 90th game when these rookies have went through the cycle and the scouting report is in, these catchers and pitchers will know how to pitch to them" that my fellow fans, doesn't bode well for us either. Hey I'm with ya, I'm riding this wave along with you. Never forget the numbers never lie
The red hot Reds ! I hope they can keep Jonathan India because i believe that they deserve him. Also im tired of seeing the reds lose their division. (Dodger fan here) i like the reds too please win your division.
if we can get a starter at the deadline, i’d like lance lynn or shane bieber, and another lefty out of the pen, hoping for chapman, i think we can win a series if we make it to the playoffs
They win World Series next year if they retain offense and pick up three arms, starter, two bullpen. I think they just need a sub 3.50 starter and two sub 3.50 bullpen. With that many offensive threats I would say retain the whole offense, don’t sell to get arms, get good enough arms. The games will be the best games in MLB history, full of action. The 2024 Reds will be remembered as the most exciting team in sports history. If the sell India - it will ruin the vibe. Right now the team feels organic and unrefined. I think that’s what you run on. I’ve been a Reds fan my whole life - this team is worth keeping. Don’t piss off the fans now.
The reds need starting pitching that can put up a lot of innings. That being said you just can't dismantle the team. The reds have before traded players that are productive to help the team win. This is a team that is doing well to stay in first place. Surely I wouldn't want to be in the front office to make decisions on who stays and who goes. I guess you have to look at who is in triple a that can take the place of a weak link in hopes of getting a pitcher that can pitch innings and keep runners off home plate. I wish the reds players the best of the rest of the season.
I bet the person who involved Spencer Steer in that trade has been losing a lot of sleep lately, dude has became my favorite player for some reason. Never seems like he gets nervous or worrisome. Typically gives you great at bats. I call him Officer Steer, after he grew out his mustache a couple weeks ago and he looked like a police officer lol
You have it wrong about Tj Friedl he didn’t slip through the cracks and lots of teams knew about him. It’s just he didn’t know that he was eligible for the draft therefore no one drafted him since they didn’t know he could be drafted. There’s probably more to the story but that’s all I know.
TJ Friedl is having an phenomenal season in the leadoff spot. I've always wanted the Reds to have a Lenny Dykstra type. Even his late 80s/early 90s mid-stirrup look is cool.
Remember… in 1990 … nobody picked the Reds to win their division… Then few thought the Reds would get past the Pirates and win the NL Pennant… But nobody outside Cincinnati thought the Reds would beat the AL champion Oakland A’s…. Those Reds went WIRE to WIRE…. For this 2023 Cincinnati Reds team… their destiny is up to them… I’m in their CAR and always have been!
They can't keep overcoming their lack of starting pitching for the long haul. 4th worst staff in the majors. They have some starting pitchers on the IL but they're mostly unproven (Greene, Lodolo, Avery)
I would add the Pirates to this watch list. They are also bringing up a core group of young talent, and are about to get 3-4 of their top players back off IL. I would not be surprised to see them contend with the Reds for the division in the 2nd half. It is going to be fun watching things unfold with these young teams in the same division. Both these franchises deserve some good fortune.
I'm 53 and remember the Big Red Machine when growing up in the 70's. I am NOT sold on this team. Wow they have won a few games, but it's The Reds. I will leave this comment with this, TRUE REDS FANS aren't sold on this team. They will finish the season at best 3rd place and NOT make the playoffs. I GUARANTEE IT!!
Honestly I think the reds will be like the 2015 Bengals, were they do great after years of futility and then lose in a heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs.
ehhhh Angels not too surprising IMO. I'm a fan so obviously biased, but our team has a tendency to be above average for the first half and then just absolutely flop second half. Crossing my fingers this year but not raising my hopes just yet
The Reds will finish 2023 as Central Division Champions!! As of the date of this comment (July 29, 2023) the Reds are 57-49 and 0.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers!! The Reds will make it to the NLCS where they will eventually lose to either the LA DODGERS or ATLANTA BRAVES! However, the REDS will be a very strong & capable CONTENDER in the NL for several years to come!!! " AND THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE REDS!!!
How does the Reds season end?

So, if given the chance of choosing between having a lineup with "some" speed and a couple guys that could hit 50 HR's but also strikeout a lot ( Olson, Schwarber ) or a team that is loaded with guys that ALL have speed, all make good contact, most handle the bat well enough to bunt and hit behind the runner when called for...and while none
of them will hit 50 HR's, most of them are gonna have a ton of XBH's !
Oh yah!!!!!!!!!! They're going all the way this year. This team brings back memories of the Big Red Machine!!!
I think at least two of those guys absolutely have to be trade bait for starting pitching.
@YogGroove makes sense and I keep forgetting its a small market team as well my bad
To answer your question. All the way ! They have that 1990 vibe. Awesome video my friend. God bless you.
I think you should add Lodolo and Abbott to your next Reds video. Good video from a lifelong Reds fan.
I would love to see an I-71 WS in my lifetime.
One day, maybe. It could happen.
I was at the game elly hit for a cycle and votto cracked 2 Homer's. Never have I been to a reds game that was so electric.
Votto is on fire and so are the Reds!! 🔥🔥🔥
This team is such a fun watch, love watching teams build up around young talent. Alexis Diaz has been huge for them and I’m happy to see him doing so well
braves own you buddy

All the way Pete rose bet that the reds win min the world if your a true person who lives in Cincinnati you should always have faith in the reds
Lifelong reds fan here and boy is this fun. I think they can win the division and win the wild card series. I doubt they have the formidable pitching to compete with another playoff teams top 3 so unlikely they win the division series. But they will not be done.
It wasn't that long ago when the Pirates were in first and the Reds were near the bottom this season
You would think the Pirates fans would be used to them doing well early in the season and then shitting all over the field for the remainder.
Never been ashamed of the Reds. Just upset with front office decisions.
Yes, Cincy loves their Redlegs....But Management F'd Around and had to find out....in a better place currently, keep building!
Bro for real. It feels like back in the early and mid 2000’s and 2010’s all we did was wait for good players to step up then trade them away.
Honestly, they became so good because Votto came back and became awesome and Elly De La Cruz honestly looks like one of the best in the league rn.
Even though weavers era is very below average they haven’t lost on his last 6 starts and with abbot hopefully being a solid starter lodolo and Greene coming back they have a very bright future
This team will go to the Post season... THEY CAN GO ALL THE WAY...
I remember the 1991 season the Braves went to the world series after being terrible the year before, the Reds lost 100 games last year and now they are in first place this year...
As a reds fan your giving the front office wayyyyyy to much credit lmao
The Reds look good, and I will give them credit. Atlanta Braves: Hold my beer!
Just got swept by Milwaukee at home to start the second half. The party’s over.
Lost 3 of 4 to Cubs then got swept by the lowly Nationals at home.
The red hot Reds ! I hope they can keep Jonathan India because i believe that they deserve him. Also im tired of seeing the reds lose their division. (Dodger fan here) i like the reds too please win your division.
World Series or bust!!
Let's Go Redleg nation
🤘😝🤘
As a life long reds fan these boys are electric!!
Forgot about Andrew Abbott!
Going into the All-Star break 4-1 and a sub 2.5 ERA as a rookie too!
Mclain also hits a crazy amount of doubles
if we can get a starter at the deadline, i’d like lance lynn or shane bieber, and another lefty out of the pen, hoping for chapman, i think we can win a series if we make it to the playoffs
Big Red Machine 2.0? If they fix the pitching...maybe maybe.
This reds team reminds me of the dlo brooklyn nets a few years ago
This is the next 500k sub channel, get word play my friend
Playing at Great American Smallpark definitely makes games up for grabs until the 27th out
You never here how small yankee stadium is wonder why
I’m hoping for my reds to win their 6th World Series!
Lol is the Big Red Machine back?!?! Gotta wait and see but I just saw their place in the standings and was surprised
Remember… in 1990 …
nobody picked the Reds to win their division…
Then few thought the Reds would get past the Pirates and win the NL Pennant…
But nobody outside Cincinnati thought the Reds would beat the AL champion Oakland A’s….
Those Reds went WIRE to WIRE….
For this 2023 Cincinnati Reds team… their destiny is up to them…
I’m in their CAR and always have been!
I'm excited about the Reds too.......but let's not be counting our chickens just yet.
This time next year several other teams will be enjoying the great young talent that used to be on the Reds.
Hope they along with the angels can get pitching help to get them to the playoffs.
They’re this seasons 2022 Mariners-they’re going to buy at the trade deadline and make the playoffs
Ur vids are so dope
If the Reds acquire competitive pitching, they could compete with Atlanta. If they beat Atlanta, they could go to the show.
And now the cubs making a run lol 😂. Bruh the NL Central has always been the most fun division.
moral of the story...never give up on yourself
Thank you Joe Burrow. Youre so awesome you have fixed the Reds from Paycore stadium.
The last time I saw Joe Burrow play in person he threw 5 INTs and got sacked 1 million times against the Steelers lol
@elbob17 the last time the steelers made it to the super bowl was ??
They can't keep overcoming their lack of starting pitching for the long haul. 4th worst staff in the majors. They have some starting pitchers on the IL but they're mostly unproven (Greene, Lodolo, Avery)
The os were this last year the set the standard for the reds to follow
Marcus Stroman to the Reds for CES confirmed
De la Cruz is a player you try to make in mlb the show
I think they can win 90 games if they keep it up. Good video!
Read the title as “2003 Reds” at first lol
I played Greene and McLain in high school
You do three things to become a good team
1 hit the ball
2 throw the ball
3 catch the ball
Maybe us Reds fans should learn that the front office really knows what they're doing and trust the trades they make.
Want to bet ?
When all the young players play well at once.
Andrew Abbott! He has given up what 3 runs at the most in any of his starts? Rookie, has 3-4 games with no runs or 1 run.
Elly Del La Cruz is a good start with this team
No mention of Tyler Stephenson?
Win the division, possibly world series
Not to mention veteran Joey votto
And they're doing all this without arguably their best pitcher, Nick Lodolo
The jury is out on Nick Lodolo/Hunter Greene/Graham Ashcraft. They have potential but they're not good yet.
Hard disagree. Lodolo and HG when healthy dominate. The jury is def out on GA. The league made their adjustment now he needs to make his.
44⚾️🐐
Honestly I think the reds will be like the 2015 Bengals, were they do great after years of futility and then lose in a heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs.
Even if that happens, after last year, who can complain?
The Reds couldn't believe TJ Friedl went undrafted? They had like 40 chances to take him...
Question posed by content creator: how far do you think the reds will go?
Me in full smart-ass mode: all the way to end of the season 😏
Reds- World Series Champs 2024
Will Benson is quietly producing out of the ninth hole. No mention of him at only 25 years old?
can you make a video about the giants
Cincy, the Rangers, the Angels, good grief baseball is weird this year!
ehhhh Angels not too surprising IMO.
