They still have to pay for the work. Because of the rights to film it they will have to pay less i think.

Only two years of guarantee ? I live in Germany and in the building industry they have to give 12years by law. If a builder builds a house where they have a leaky cellar after two years it's a fix on the builders money. Very good incentive to do it right in the beginning...

@@Cobalt_HitronWell Canada in this case but the point stands, you can get 6-7 year warranty on cars these days but 2-3 years is still the norm.
Crazy considering the asking price for houses is north of 350K.
You as the homeowner if living in a new and unfinished active development should be able to place a lien both financial along with a stop work inspection on all permits the builder has open so the builder can't sell his current homes their building until the issues are fixed this would only be an option when the new home warranty is about to expire.
This was dangerous for the workers in the trench. A friend of ours was killed, buried alive in clay soil, while working in an unsecured trench, in a country where no safety rules are enforced. Does Canada not have rules regarding this?
In the video we see excavation work of more than two meters (8 feet) deep in unstable clay soil initially without any trench supports on most sides of the house except one. In most shots people are working in a completely unprotected trench. They finally added minimal trench support in the back yard shoring up one side with wood after it caved in overnight. This should have been done right from the start as they were digging each section. They should be setting a better example.

When I built my house on the side of a mountain in West Virginia, I was keen to ensure that the walls and slab in the basement had no water issues. We started with 10 mil plastic below the concrete pour for the slab, and used a 6" drain-tile around the foundation.
We coated the below-ground areas of the foundation blocks with @1/8" black tar sealant (also called "black mammie"). Anything above grade was coated with Dry-Lock primer-sealer. All of the black mammie was covered by 10 mil plastic sheeting to prevent rocks from chafing the coating and the drain tile was buried in 3' of 1/2" gravel. landscape fabric above that keeps surface soil from infiltrating the system.
For more than 12 years we've not seen any evidence of ground-moisture in the lower floor, and when the rains are heavy, the outflows of the drain-tiles are a sight to behold.
That is the reason why leave ties and wailers instead of carriage bolt cuz the pies get broke off and the wailers get recycled to the next job

Home inspection's are a good thing, especially when you get your own inspector. Never trust the home builder, the realtor, and never trust the people selling the house. When you find the inspector make sure they know none of the people I just mentioned.
"They only worry about the inside and not the outside." I would suggest that if you don't care about the outside, then you don't actually have an inside.
That was a very tough job to fix the leaky basement. How could the builder have not done the job professionally? It seemed that they don’t want to do the right way. They shouldn’t be in the businesses in the first place. Another red flag!!

In Australia, the building warranty is 10 years on structural defects, and 6 years building warranty from date of completion. That being said, it doesn't stop the cowboys and scammers from doing what they do...😕

Make it Right and Mike shows up to record and digitize the problem(s). 95 % caused by water infiltration. But let’s go Old School this time and What if Mike had only a pair of Dowsing Rods and a polaroid cam? Then el KABOOM, Mr. Mike gives You the Same Report for Repair. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all. That's what some of these builder's do. Save money & time on to the next victim. Treat every job like it's your own.
What is the builder of those houses thinking about when they are building a house not water proofing the basement
What the builder did was mostly okay. It would have been totally fine if they had parged the holes correctly and added a drain tile for the window. Mike Holmes and this show lead to changes in the building code 2008 making basement waterproofing part of code. Now builders cheap out basement waterproofing new and creative ways.

Let's face it, stick built homes don't work, or last. And they definitely are too expensive and hard to fix. We need other housing. Other better housing.
The most typical government cop-out: "Our hands are tied."
How about you actually state the truth? "The law is not written to help you in this instance in these specific ways." and then list the relevant sections of law.
But that would be... WORK!
The minimum code should be the water membrain is to be around the houses, then that might just put theses want to be builders out of business
Um, he didn't fix the drain in the basement... do they not need it anymore?
Judging by the dimensions, that drain was intended for condensation from the HVAC (Water heater as well if there is one). It was never designed to handle large volumes of water, just little trickles here and there.
The drain is no longer needed that's why it wasn't touched

Basements need to be banned. Most homeowners build the house on 5 feet from the ground

THE HOME INSPECTORS ARE INCOMPETENT BUT BEFORE YOU EVEN GET TO THEM, YOUR SUPPOSED TO GET PERMITS TO MAKE SURE THE CONTRACTORS DO THE BUILDING RIGHT. THE CONTRACTORS ARE INCOMPETENT , CUT CORNERS AND DO NOT DO THE JOBS RIGHT. IT SEEMS THAT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT INSPECTORS THAT YOU HAVE PAID FOR THROUGH PERMITS ARE INCOMPETENT AND SEEM NOT TO HAVE DONE THEIR JOBS.WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? The backfill should've been stone, not the same clay that was dug out.

I agree. In America 75% of houses don't have a basement. Just build a house 10 feet in the air no more water getting into the foundation
Until you can afford to get and architect, an interior designer and Mike, of course. Then, proceed.
