The older one gets the more meaning this song has. I thank God I was able to see my children grow up into responsible, successful adults and now I watch my grandchildren leave the nest but in my eyes they remain young. A granddaughter is at the Air Force Academy and will soon fly the fighter jets. She is already a pilot. Her brother is in medical school. Yet my fondest memories are showing them how to catch that first fish. Forever Young.
My mom told me as a kid that this was my song. She "gave" each of my siblings a song too. So then at my wedding I danced to this song for my Father Daughter dance.
Rod alway had the voice, he was great in concert . Years ago I saw an interview with him and four of his ex wives. They used to spend Xmass together all the kids. I knew he had to be a decent man that those women would all come together for the holidays . Definitely a family man
It is his son, he wrote this for him and his other children, to him they will be forever young. I saw the concert and it was so adorable. His son came out for the song and the two of them kicked a soccer ball around the stage as Rod Stewart sang. He picked him up at the end of the song and the crowd went crazy.
I have heard this song played many times as a police officer's casket is being wheeled out of a church after the memorial service. I have stood over too many caskets & folded the American flag to be presented to the family. With all that, this is a moving song.
In addition to "forever young' being how a parent will always see his children, it's also about wanting them to keep the wonder, enthusiasm, and hopefulness of youth and not be jaded by the deceit and darkness that growing old can sometimes bring.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Tissue time. Thank you so much for reacting to this. It has a very special place in my heart like no other song can touch. This song, this version (mother of the groom dance). My son was an OTR truck driver at the time he got married which makes the lyrics even more fitting. Don't matter where he goes or how old he gets. He will always be my baby boy. The photographer captured on film when my son gave me a hug as the song ended. My back was to the camera. But because of that picture, for the first time ever, I got to see the love on his face that I could only ever feel when he hugged me. He ordered that picture, had it framed and gave it to me as a Mother's Day gift. It now hangs on the wall at the foot of my bed. I wake up every morning and go to sleep every night to a hug from my boy just like when he was a baby. There is nothing in the entire world more precious than that! 💝

One of my favorite songs by Rod Stewart. Considering how long he's been in the music business it's more likely that people would be doing covers of his songs and not the other way around.
