__thatonedinomeme __ but in the anime how she was annoying was good, she worship light and wanted to date him. in this one Mia was just a bitch with her own intentions.
heres a fun fact about the notebook; when you misspell the name of whoever you want to kill three times, the order is erased and the notebook holder dies instead.
Pratik Ghosh honestly L was kinda dumb but at some parts Light was rly smart and L underestimated him which was a thrill to watch bc the encounters they both had were close calls and I didn’t know who to root for, it got intense. But yeah The actor for didnt fit right for me
@@GiornoLovesDeathGrips Exactly! Light was supposed to be super intelligent to the point where he was almost a sociopath. He was playing the part of a naive stupid kid. This jackass in the movie just knows shit for some reason. Light gets interrogated for hours and doesn't even break a sweat. This man. Nah...I gotta give up the book to this crazy bitch because pussy.
Fernando Aguirre that's actually what I figured. L would never kill a suspect, unless it was self defence, even if he knew they were guilty. Also, L personally saw when he was chasing Light that Kira has become a god of sorts, and there would be riots if they tried charging Light. With Watari dead and him defeated, I feel like L would write his own name as a final act of defiance.
I'm fairly sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. L has to find out much more about the mechanics of the killings, and it would be foolish to kill his only source of information. Also, the sheet with the names of the FBI agents was in Mia's possession and has been written down by her. Therefore it wasn't Light's handwriting. L might conclude that Mia was the real head of KIRA. Also, the killings continued while Light was in a coma. Because of these facts L cannot be sure that Light is solely responsible for the killings. L will keep the page and continue to investigate the nature of the killings.
I had to watch the movie again and forgot how good it was. I don't think L wrote Lights name on the page because it was Mia who had the agents killed, not Light. If L really was some hotshot super-detective, he would have known it was in Mia's handwriting, not Lights, and it was in her possession after all which is why L stopped. We then see Ryuk laughing because how close Light came to being killed himself at the hand of L, not to mention at what Light did to avoid death, and all he sacrificed to survive and to try to make it right. Mia was power hungry and was getting innocent people killed. L's friend and mentor would have still been alive had Mia not have taken the page but in doing so, still had the one name that Light was able to erase ultimately at the end, which was his own name. I thought this was a great movie and I loved the soundtrack, such an 80's feel to it. I really hope there is a part II someday.
@the awesome Joe It's not even a good live action movie about an anime because it doesn't follow the anime. You want something better, watch the Japanese live action movies.
Nope, he wouldn't because if anyone who has watched the anime. Knows that L likes figuring things out, and thus considers Light a worthy challenger. And will continue the game.
i guess you can say that its set up for a sequal cause lights dad is still alive meaning it would elimanaite him as kirra even tho he is but L by nature wont write lights name, he isnt a killer. and besides the killings that have happen while he was in coma proves it wasnt him.
well that is the real L. the american action vengefull cop "L" on this movies, who makes public conferences and chases suspects with a gun ( as if real L would ever put himself right in fron of the press like that pff) is clearly very different from real L so maybe he would kill a suspect
@@martinkolakowski2888 pff the good part about L's real name was that his nick was his name all the time and his last name included the word law, as he always said he was the law.
Mavi Kartal the movie was bad, the only thing I liked is the deaths. They are way more gory then the anime. But like PewDiePie said, everyone is jello in the movie.
Notice how, when the commands left in the Death Note are being carried out, the camera tilts into a disconcerting side angle which always leads to death. This same angle is applied at the very end of the movie whilst Ryuk is saying ominously “you humans are so interesting.”
No the Netflix adaptation really didn't have any cues of scenes worth mentioning infact it made the 2 main characters look dumb af tbh, what a way to ruin it
@@ziggybluwaters5060 His comment makes total sense, he's saying how they made the characters super dumb in the adaptation, they were really smart in the anime :/
You left out the ending where Ryuk laughs at Light and says, "you humans are so interesting", and Light reacts surprised to the comment. This hints towards L writing Light's name on the page.
@benjovi55 This is why the Netflix movie is so damn stupid. Ryuk is supposed to be neutral. He is supposed to be enjoying what Light is doing and Light isn't supposed to be a pussy bitch about using the death note.
@@zoxr2872 I agree. I'm pretty sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. Ryuk's comment is a hint into that direction. My theory: I think that L is conflicted for various reasons and also needs to learn more about how the killings really work. And the mass suicide of the FBI agents has been written down by Mia. L can easily check that this isn't Light's handwriting! He might even conclude that Mia was the head of KIRA. Also, since the killings continued while Light was in a coma, L can't even be sure that Light is really behind all killings. It would be foolish to kill Light before L can find out more. But he most certainly has the option now to kill Light. Since I didn't know the original source material of Death Note, I really liked this adaptation. I hope there will be a sequel which Deals with the cliff hanger.
Light was an average kid which no one understands kenny and Mia always giving him demands Until one day locked in his school Bored in detention A magic god of death to grant his every twisted wish now he has DEATHLY GOD PARENTS
I don't know if anyone else has already said this, but I think that L didn't write Light's name and chose to write his father's name. Because it's Light's fault that Watari is dead and (assuming Watari was a father figure to L) L wants to make him feel the pain he felt. So he killed Light's dad. That's just my theory.
FluffehRaven that would be perfect for a sequel! Considering that Light's father actually found out that Light is Kira at the end... So no loose ends... Other then L who has been discredited by the end of the movie...
I don't agree with that since at the end of the movie, there's a really little detail about L's face that just says to me that he wouldn't want to be like Light, he wouldn't want be like Kira by killing a person with the death note. The way L at the end of the movie moved his head in a denying tone just gave me this idea.
The best ending that would continue the story, would be that L writes down Light's fathers name, to have him experience the pain of losing a loved one. (Also matching the ending song)
Experience losing a loved one? Light already lost his mom and Mia. He already knows how that feels. That would be a little overkill and a really boring ending. From what i gather from the ending is that L stops laughing before righting down a name. As if he realizes that Mai was Kira all along. Since she is the one with a deathnote page in her calculus book. L loops pretty surprised as well. Maybe light had an other plan how to get to L's real name and gave with a heart attack right before he could right it down.
There's a duality. First, note that as you yourself state "I love the anime, but really “Light turner” wtf soo disappointing". Even the smallest change, even changing the name so that a LIVE-ACTION NON-JAPANESE PERSON HAS A REAL-LIFE NON-JAPANESE NAME is enough to ruin the endeavor. It doesn't matter if they only call him his full name a couple times, that they dared change a single name is unforgivable. ----- What I found helped me appreciate the film is accepting beforehand that movies are not manga or serialized anime. There's no break between episodes where a week can pass unattended, or any sort of time-jump between adjacent chapters. The movie has to tell a relatively-consistent series of events without detracting strongly from the core narrative, it needs a faster pace than an anime or manga. This is why the "48-hour control" limit was put on in the movie. In the manga and anime and Japanese movies, a person can control someone for four weeks. Light is further able to spend a few chapters/episodes experimenting on how to get the most of the killings before L comes onto the scene. If movie-Light was able to control someone over even a week, he could have written Watari's name into the Death Note and gotten L's true name without any worries. It wouldn't have even been suspicious for Watari to go investigate, since he wouldn't have the time-crunch to get the name immediately...so he tells L that he has something to do, and gets Light the name.
RUBANNAN Just because he watched the anime instead of the movie doesn't make him a weeaboo. Since with watching the movie, you're basically watching the anime, just differently localized.
In my opinon, L did not write Lights name on the page he found on the calculus book. He seems to be ready to write it down when he sees the pic of Light and Mia. Then he laughs and points the pen on the page, a second look on the picture of the two kira, he stops and looks slowly down as if mentaly saying; " If i kill Light, ill have revenge. But if i do kill him... Then ill just be bad as him." So to me, he didnt write the name, that would make it too obvious that he would for revenge.
He's not even the same L. L in the anime's real name is L. Lawliet and the L in the Netflix real name is Leben Dorn. If you don't believe me look it up.
My theory is that the sequel will begin in the same scene. L hesitated on putting Lights name on the sheet. I theorize that he won't put Lights' name on the paper, but his dad's instead. The entire sequel will focus on Light finding out L's true identity and take revenge on L killing his father.
Silly theory really seeing as how L knows that Light is Kira and now James also knows that Light is Kira. L has no reason to put James name on the page. The only thing he could do is try to prove that Light is Kira with the page but seeing as how it's Mia's room he broke into, Light could just say that it proves that Mia was Kira and Light could just kill his own dad or in this one, maybe his dad would hide the fact that Light is Kira? I don't know. Maybe in this one L will kill Light's dad. The Netflix death note is very inconsistent when it translates the characters from manga/anime over to the Netflix movie so L and Light aren't the same and Soichiro is definitely not the same either. It's no telling what they will do and what they will do to fix the travesty of the first movie.
@@mrschiltzz That would be stupid then because that is not how L is supposed to be. He doesn't try to get revenge. Of course in the anime/manga/Japanese live action movies he wouldn't have chased Light in an alley way nor would he have had this much emotion either.
I love Death Note, and I haven't watched this movie because I thought I would hate it Surprisingly I only have one complaint: L shouldn't wear shoes in the movie.
As an English major, the ending felt rushed and it couldn't be telegraphed (aside from the fact that Light's gf killed the officers). It felt out of character for _this version_ of Light.
PowahSlap Entertainmint I thought it worked well. Took the selfishness of the OG character, but also showed who they created in the book. I'm not a death note fan, so watching the movie I wasn't constantly comparing it.
corporatestatusbrah But can you honestly say that it felt like Light Turner could think of something that convoluted in that short amount of time. The movie never really gave us the intelligence level of Light. All we got was he did other people's homework for money. That... doesn't really show anything.
Ace it's a time restraints. I think the movie could have used another 20-30 minutes. I think you're just suppose to know he's smart. You get a very simplistic idea that he is in the beginning, but pushing that idea further makes no sense cause he "smart". Maybe have a scene where he does something similar, but just going off what we got felt ok, didn't really question it.
definitely, theres a lot of montage in the first act that really doesn't do anything to build his character concretely. But you look at his final plan and you're like "ok it's all intricate and it has many complex elements playing together" so it "looks" smart. But I could poke wholes into it, like the writer was like "how is the book retrieved? mind control. How is he in a coma? mind control. How does he burn the page? he plans it to fall in the fire?" its all opinions of course, but that to me made it so the "victory" wasn't really earned for the character. Don't you think?
I mean, the Death Note special for the anime summarised the entire first arc into 2 hours, and the second arc in a second special. Summarising the entirety of Death Note in 2 hours seems very doable, or at least the majority of the important information of L and Light's clash, and it had already been done incredibly well. Also, was there a reason the location setting and story was changed so much from the original? Hell, even Light's name was changed from 'Yagami' to 'Turner'.
there's nothing wrong with that. they'd have to hire nothing but foreign actors and film overseas otherwise. what's the point when this is an american adaption.
Bad Request because it's not an manga adaptation it's a completely different story just with some slight differences & some similarities...in the anime light didn't fuck Mia, light didn't get bullied, they didn't go to a dance, mia wasn't light's partner she was a Kira disciple, L wasn't black, light didn't love Mia etc
because its a american adaption and not Japanese if you expect some other country to adapt something and not change everything then you are stupid now i'm not saying the movie is good it isn't bad either i'm not defending it but i liked it personally but i doubt any one adapts anime and manga just to appeal to anime fans since they've already seen the anime whats the point of appealing to them, what would be the point of watching something you have already seen but in a different format or if you cast Japanese people the movie might as well be made in Japan for the Japanese.since its an american adaption its targeted for the american audience..mostly and i assume they would rather have characters be American and not read subtitles or listen to bad accents
The ending is left open so the viewers can decide for themselves what L would do depending on their own perception of justice and morality. In essence, would you use the Death Note, believing you are simply exercising absolute justice like Light? Or would you not use it because you think it is not your place to be above the law and play God? You decide.
Petite I’m not catholic so... USE THE BOOK!!! Nowadays people consider jail as “better” than death yet your just like that person or even worse. If someone shot someone and the evidence didn’t favour them even thou they were innocent you put them threw years of torture, forcing them away from what they love and physically damning them so if was gonna shot somebody I’m most likely gonna shot who ever comes at me
@@Evo4726 lol no I haven't but Ryuk is pretty cool anyways. and i realized he is a shirigami or something like that, like a death god. but the anime seems pretty cool :3
Didn't light die as ryuk laughed and said that "you humans are so interesting" which if you put 2 and 2 together would tell you that L wrote lights name in the book
The movie was suppose to be a battle of wits between sociopathic investigator and a psychopathic vigilante. Instead they're both pussified versions of the actual characters. Light never turned into Kira, they pretty much made Misa Kira instead and made L feel too much empathy for Watari. L would grief, but not in this way, and definitely not in the way were his emotions take over his rationale thinking. How can a battle of wits be validated if they made both these characters ruled by their emotions and easily influenced by others? Lame. and if anything deserves the 1 star, and 0/10, because this movie said it was Death Note and it was not Death note. There was no twist, it was a complete deformity of what the original source is.
anime fans are so easily butthurt man I thought it was a good movie of course its not as great and complex as the full anime series but as a movie on its own it doesnt deserve all the hate it gets
NotSoSuave The anime shouldn’t be what makes this a good or a bad movie HOWEVER I do agree that they could’ve stayed true to the anime a little better.
You're the only person i've seen who actually viewed this adaptation in a more positive manner, and putting aside my personal feelings on this adaptation of death note, i respect your opinion 👍
Sam.E.A L's gun was made to look like Dekard's gun from Bladerunner, and in Fallout New Vegas you can find the gun and use it, but it's called "That Gun" in your inventory.
When I watched it for 3 times, I think L didnt write Light's name 1, if he is based from the Anime, L never wanted to be like the criminals he catch and probably be reminded by Watari via Flash back 2, Light said calculus book, not a Death Note, and it was found at Mia's House, he could tell that Mia is the one doing the killing and specially when the page fell with Light's name, eh should figure out that Light is under the control of Mia 3, Upon Mia's death means Watari's Killer is also Dead
As for number 3, since Watari died and it was Light who wrote his name in the book, plus Mia died, means that Light gets off Scot-free as no one knows what killed Watari except for the officers.
1 is debunked with this Black L is the same as Anime L, he wanted revenge which drastically changes him He stole a gun not a taser or stun gun, which means he was more intent on killing rather than arresting Turner
one reason that would fk shit up china would have a fkn melt down and it would probably cause a war to break out even faster because multiple countrys would fight them in a weaknd state so it wouldn't be that good of a decision if u were joking sry XXXXXXXXXXXXXDDDDDDDDDD
I read that Mia was based off of Light more than Light... I think it would have been a little more interesting if Mia got the Death Note and took up the helm after Light (from the manga) died.
TheSweetieNique Makes sense. I though Mia's personality was a lot more similar to Light's than Misa's. It even reached the point where Mia was willing to kill anyone to save herself like Light declared he was in the manga.
@@GG-dt5hh if the writers wrote it that way, as Mia taking the role of Light and Light being the dedicated 'lover' instead, it could have been better. i mean, it would detract from the source material, but it would be a twist
The ending I believe here is actually that L doesn’t write light’s name but similar to how light used the book, he writes down the name of the people who fired him, maybe also including his name as well to prove that the killer is still on the loose and could possibly be light
The first death definitely surprised me since I wasn’t expecting there to be graphic/violent deaths or at least show them. But I loved how some of the deaths, specifically the first one and the guy that killed Light’s mom, had a Final Destination style to them.
think about how light words mia's death, he says she dies WHEN she takes the note, not if she takes the note, she was going to die either way. just something i noticed
but of course, there is no way to avoid dying if your name has been written in the deathnote. you can manipulate the circumstances but that is it, once you write a name that person is dead no matter what you try to save them.
@@nessyness5447 but that's the thing. According to the movie's established rules, if Mia didn't take the note, Light would have been able to burn the page, saving her once she proved that she loved him, and not the power of the book. But because she took it, a different page was burnt, the one which has Light's name on it. But since she took the book, it became impossible for Light to burn the page, sealing her fate. Something which Light clearly did wrong, as he wrote "when" instead of "if", making the "test" unwinnable, by forcing her to take the book, as part of the "control" rule.
@@weebjeez it is a shitty ansurd rule, that didn't exist in the original work because the original work was about the concept of justice and what power makes to people and romantical love didn't have a place in that story. besides the rules of the death note say that if you write a name that person dies and there is not stopping it, and burning the page doesn't save anyone, plus you need to write the whole real name...they killed watari by writting watari when that is just a nickname. is just lazy what they did to the death note rules. in the manga, anime, and japanese movies this rules made everything more complicated and added to the intelect fight between light and L. to the point of light having to manipulate rem( who they even ignore in here)to kill L. and the whole deal is between ligh and L/his sucesors, misa is just a pawn and light is not in love witg her because he is a psycopath and doesn't love anyone...fuck's sake he was willing to kill his sister to get the death note from mello or kill his own father even. the way the chaged the characters here...the note's rules, the character's motivations, the way the blamed it on ryuk calling himna demon and saying that he incited light to kill when ryuk was just an neutral observer. making light to be in love with this mia that looks more like a stupid version of the real light than like misa. the exagerated deaths in final destiny style...is all lazy and makes the great and complex plot of death note look like a stupid action/slasher movie with stupid and impulsive characters. is awful , it looks like one of those tv movies in saturday afternoons but with even less logic.
@@nessyness5447 not feeling like reading it right now, but the point remains that, however "ansurd" the rule is, it is one of the stated rules of the movie, which is much different, as we all know, from the anime, which is only a little different than the manga. So it doesn't matter how it would work in the main story, as this is a standalone product.
I wouldn’t mind them making a sequel of this movie I mean it got most of the information I need right just with a tiny twist i like the anime but I like the different twist this movie threw at you I give it 8/10
well there is a japanese movie sequel that follows the other japanese live action( wich are real adaptations that actually respect the characters and plot and style even if they make a few changes to fit it in two movies) in fact there are two movie sequels ( one about L and a different case and one about six death notes falling on earth 10 years after the events on death note) and a book about called another note, written as is mello wrote it and that covers the story of beyond birthday, L, and the wammy's house and explains why L actually believes in shinigamis and was so scared when misa mentions the shinigamis and the eye in the video of the " second kira"
This movie works as a Rom-Com Horror film. It's best viewed as something completely separate from the revered anime. Standout out performance LaKeith Williams, and a decent soundtrack ( although used strangely. ) I'd generously give it a 7/10.
NastyNick TV I would disagree partially with the score to 6 but a merciful 7 is ok The cast is also decent wish they would have at least made Kira a little more smart and not on a rage boner for murder
I just watched it. And I think it's an eye for an eye with L right at the end. I think that L wrote Lights dad onto the note. If it wasn't for Light, Watari would still be alive, but killing Light is letting him get off easy. But by killing his father, after losing Mia, he'll have to suffer even further.
@@arseneloopy8556 then at least don't call him ligh, is not an american name, at least not one used and who the hell has turner as last name and names their son light? light turner? really? is like painting a target for jokes about his name on his back
@@TheOriginal_Unaleska yeah but but if his parents decided to give him a weird non japanese is not that bad, the problem with keeping the name light and adding the last name turner is that light turner sounds like a joke name , like imagine school " hey turner, turn on the light" ( then again the entire movie looks like a joke) if they were going to keep the name light why not keep yagami too and make him an asian american? there were asian american actors who wanted the part.( then again given the script maybe it was better for them they got rejected)
I had one of those books and I wrote names of already dead people and for some of them I wrote the deaths of them and I left it in the grass at school.
I think L did write Light's name because in the end Ryuk was talking to him about who strange the human's life is, so that means Light died in the hospital
Exactly, I think Light wrote it down as it happened, I think he chose to kill Mia and I like that better because it would add to the story, it shows Light had the determination and cold blood to kill her, finally embracing Kira.
Brandon Reed There cannot be any conditional deaths. One of the rules in the book goes something like this: "Once a human's name is written in this book, they will certainly die."
S.O.K. #1 not if you specify the cause of death what you mentioned if you just write their name they will die but it will be random cause... It works the same in the anime their are conditional deaths tho
MrAntony2you I like that, L knows it would destroy Light because the one person he wouldn't kill (even if it would have saved his ass) was his father. Light's closest friend for his own.
yeah i think they'd risk too much if they straight out kill off Light for his father to take the mantle, plus killing his father would give him more of the drive to go after L
I watched the film not having seen the anime, and I quite enjoyed it. And I wanted to see more, so I watched the anime and it was so much better. Now looking back on the movie it's not that good
ToxicPickle Let me bet: It's mediocre I had a simmilar experience with the MazeRunner Books After I watched the Movie my father told me that there were also books So after reading the book I was freaking annoyed by the fact of it only being half of the book completely rewritten to a way worse version And all in one it is just a mediocre movie and that based on a book that can be put perfectly into a movie (2nd movie was alwful... I can't say anything different: 1 Okey 2 OH PLEASE GOD NO WHAT IS THIS BASED ON)
Wait...L has no idea about the DN, finds a random page between other books with the names of his dead FBI agents on it and concludes that by writing down their names, they got killed? Just because Light told him that a Calculus book can kill? oO Can someone explain that logic to me? What kind of supernatural super detective is L to have figured that out without knowing of the existance and the function of the Death Note?? That confuses me to no end. xDDD
Nayeli DeathKnight and saw a page that said light turner heart attack that got burned wich explained lights hysterical behavior earlier that plus the whole "needs a name" thing that he does know all the evidence suggests the note can somehow kill you
brian brush I mean I think that L would be thinking that Mia was Kira all along and Light was just her boyfriend who got roped into it and screwed over because she killed the FBI agents and he saw her put his name in the book so in reality he would think she was the main villain all along
I recommend you rewatch the scene in which L breaks in the house to get the Death Note page from the calculus book. He did NOT know about the Death Note itself, but he looked through the calculus book for anything out of the ordinary. Then he finds a yellow page completely different from the rest of the book. If you pause at the right moment, you can see that the page not only had the names of the 12 agents, but also an exact description of how they died (all of them walked off a building to their deaths). From that, L realized that, at the very least, one can kill someone by writing their name on the page, and can influence the circumstances of their death through writing as well. From seeing the ripped edge of the page, he would deduce that the page belonged to a notebook.
While that may be true, L said he's not a killer, not to mention if L wrote down Lights name then that would make him just as bad as Light. When L gets the page he laughs maniacally, obviously thinking of killing Light. He then stops laughing and almost looks like he will cry. I personally think that he realizes that by trying to kill Light on multiple occasions, that makes him just as bad as Light. He realizes he has nothing or no one left but should also be punished for even considering to kill someone (because he made it very clear that he is not a killer) Ryuk says "you humans are interesting" Because he couldn't possibly understand why L would let Light live, but also maybe even wrote his own name. But hey that's just a theory, A FILM THEORY, no I'm kidding but this is what I personally believe happened but it's also what I hope happened to be honest
Plot Twist: All along a possessor of Death Note was writing the names of the groups of people who initially survived freak accidents in all the Final Destination movies
I came here because I already saw the Netflix adaptation and wanted another opinion on the movie's ending. I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The title is very misleading and only reflects about the last 10% of the video. I am only saving your time.
I think L writing Light's name in the book would be too simple for L, it'd make more sense if he writes Lights Father's name in the book, as revenge for Watari's(I think that's how it's spelled) death. Plus, it'd make more sense because Light reveals everything to his Father, making it easier for his character to die off by the hands of L, setting up a sequel where they duke it out mano-a-mano. Which i think is further reinforced by how unhinged L seems now. EDIT: Or he just doesn't write anything, because he'd be just like Light, which seems to make more sense if you look at how he's processing what he could do with it while holding the pen over it.
I have said this before but I think this could be saved with an extremely clever sequel. 1) he would need to convince his father that he didn’t kill these people and that it was mia. (It’s not difficult the one page they have was found in her calculus book in her home with her handwriting, and he could have painted the death of his mothers killer as a sick favor done by Mia) 2) actually making a real Misa character and not mia (not difficult and his past experience with mia would explain his behavior towards misa in a logical way, this would also explain the appeal of the more subservient misa.) 3) after this they would have the L task force formed, the choice for the police between their jobs and the investigation, the surveillance of lights home, the chip scene, the confinement of misa and light, his loss of memory, the handcuffs fight scene, and ending similarly to the Japanese live action film.
I dont get the hate towards this movie. Everyone says the movie is terrible, but why? Just because Light Turner isnt a perfect genius mastermind as Light Yagami? My guess is people's expectations made them unable to accept this as a simple spinoff.
Alones no because light turner is literally an idiot he does the dumbest shit like walk around with the book in public using it in public showing it off to strangers persona of a highschool shooter serial killer the whole movie was shit and if u like it I guess u like shot
It's probably because they got a white actor to play an originally Japanese character. All the white washing going on in Hollywood when it comes to Asian characters and storylines. It was a bit slow at times and I was annoyed with all the inside your head babble going on in Light's head but it turned out better than I was expecting. I came in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Not enough interesting characters in the movies or scenes so it boring at times. Also the son and father scenes suck most of time for final scene being the exception. Not enough background info or character development so it's hard to really connect with the characters on a deeper more invested level. Some scenes moved too fast while some were the opposite. The L character was so over the top I couldn't take the movie seriously. His character the way he was protrayed in the movie. He came off as a joke. The main antagonist is what makes the movie and he didn't live up to it so the movie took a nose dive from there. Some scenes were totally unnecessary and didn't help the movie one bit. The father wasn't a good pick and had shitty lines and no chemistry between he characters. Actually none of the actors had chemistry with each other. He was okay but wouldn't have been my choice. All the characters were okay. None were perfect for their respective roles role but light's character was the best actor of the bunch.
+The Hacks-By-Jack Channel "white actor" would you rather a shitty asian actor? I mean, have you seen that attack on titan live action? It was made by the japanese no? I hear its not so good....
It's because Light Turner lacks the charisma that made Light Yagami compelling as Kira. It's because the psychological warfare between Kira and L was downplayed when it was the thing that made Death Note the staple it is. It doesn't matter whether the are cast in different ethnicity to the originals, to me it makes no difference as long as they can make what defines the original characters their own. The movie is good as a stand alone film, but it's a far cry from the thrill it was. Good production or not, the direction they took with the character personalities were jarring when compared to the original.
Even as a stand-alone movie it is bad. I really wanted to like it but i just couldn't. Maby if it wasn't trying to be an action then they would have made it more interesting without making it a direct copy. It can't be called Death Note if its not even in the same genre. it doesn't work
L Didn't write the name BECAUSE THOSE names were ON MIA'S page in her room. KNOWING now Light wasn't the one who killed his mentor, BUT also since he JUST saw light make an elaborate situation TO stop his name from finishing the curse. Since L didn't get to read the book and rules, he HAS to figure out IF Light's able to do it again. I Loved the Movie, I loved william Dafoe in it, I hate how no one else loved it.
I dare anyone who says this movie sucks to actually critique it. Not compare it to the original anime, it's an adaption not gonna be exactly the same. Actually critique it from a film aspect.
corporatestatusbrah actual critics already have, and they agree it's trash. Plus if you've seen the anime and watched the manga, how are you not going to compare the adaptation to the source material.
This is a different L. It's not the same L from the anime. L in the anime/manga's real name is L. Lawliet. L's real name in the Netflix movie is Leben Dorn. Different L so you don't know what he'll do.
L killed himself , he wasn’t ready to kill Light , he couldn’t stand the fact that Watari was dead , he was depressed/beaten so he kills himself by writing his name. That’s why Ryuk laughs and says Humans are so interesting , because he thought that Light was going to be killed. And that’s when Near and Mello appear
I just want a sequel to happen already. I LOVED this movie, it jumped into an Americanization and it was pretty great to hear William Dafoe as a demon Joker... Again. Though I'll still say that L didn't write his name because he now was trying to come to terms that MAYBE Light wasn't the one, that it WAS Mia.
I think that he also by seeing the complex plan written to get rid of all the FBI agents, he realized the potential of the book, that Light could still have carried out his deeds via similar complex planning as Mia did, just by writing it beforehand. So being in a coma is not a valid alibi when it comes to Kira.
@@RonBest still saying realistically it's to keep the sequel interesting, like the twist where l and light dont kill each other. Likely giving us the speculation of why haha
I know at the beginning you said it’s not a hard ending to figure out but you go through the whole movie we love that the most how we can look a movie ending up and have you pop up and describe the whole movie
Jevan Red The movie is pretty terrible, not solely because the movie can't stack up to the brilliance of the source material but also because the respect of the source material definitely wasn't there. The script writers didn't seem to have watched the live action movie or the mini series to get a vibe/atmosphere of how to pack such a complexed story into a small window of time. The punch of a criminal dying is more significant in Japan, because many natives regard crimes to be too lightly punished IF punished at all. The movie had to ofc be adapted to Netflix's American dominant audience so the core ideas could still be successfully translated. But the movie wasn't even "pretty good" because did the movie make smart moves to use the same tactics that drew people in from the first episode? HARDLY. They could have changed all the characters for all I care but deliver the WOW effect that the original had. Some things they should have kept the same are the fact that Ryuk is a neutral character (he's a mere bystander that will only help Light only to help for apple$), L's strong trait is his ability to act in a moments notice (source: Death note: How to read), not solely based on his ability to "observe" and Light's personal journey that isn't dragged along by Cheerleader #1 (Ugh I would have prefered Misa because Misa character made sense and had way more purpose!). Ok long story short what made death note so fantastic was how the protagonist and antagonist played off each other. A prime example is The dark knight trilogy. My rant is over now... child you may come out from under the bed!
Agreed. I wonder how many people who hate this movie, have seen all the movies/tv series. Cause they all are different to a degree. This is by far the most different, being set in America. But it wasn't bad. I do feel though that it might've gotten better reception if they had changed the names of Light and L. Light and Mia's personalities/motivations are quite different than the anime... and I've yet to hear anyone complain about Mia, just about Light. Maybe they forgive Mia because the name is changed, even if only slightly?
i think that the movie was wonderful on it's own a few things could have been better but it was much better then i was expecting. The action was exciting and the visuals were gruesome. the fact that light never intentionally killed anyone that didn't at least somewhat deserve it was an interesting change in my opinion in that his girlfriend was actually closer to light from the original story when in the end light proved she cared for him but she cared for the power of the book more. She showed her true colors and that meant light had to put hear down so she couldn't continue to kill people like the fbi agents and almost lights father. overall i enjoyed the movie and if they make a sequal i will watch it. HOWEVER the original anime and manga is on a completely different level and is significantly better in almost every way.
Because it's too easy to write Light's name down. That's not how L ever wanted to do things, he's a mastermind, and meeting light, who is also a mastermind, creates a huge wave of curiosity. I agree he wrote the dad's name down, because L's closest father figure was killed, and he wishes to inflict the same grief. Especially because Light doesn't know L's name yet, it gives L quite a large "power field" to play in for a short while. It's a sociopathic kinda of get up. pretty common sense though.
Good lord they changed the hell out of this 😳 I not only bought and read the entire manga and watched the anime, I also bought DeathNote merch like crazy (forever ago). You have most definitely saved me so much time on movies I’ll pass on. Much appreciated ☺️

Plot twist: L writes his own name down
Oops
Fernando Aguirre that's actually what I figured. L would never kill a suspect, unless it was self defence, even if he knew they were guilty. Also, L personally saw when he was chasing Light that Kira has become a god of sorts, and there would be riots if they tried charging Light. With Watari dead and him defeated, I feel like L would write his own name as a final act of defiance.
Fernando Aguirre He probably killed himself because he was in this movie.
Fernando Aguirre in Japanese live action movie Death note: last name, L write his own name in advance so nobody can kill him by writing his name.
Well why would Ryuk say " Humans are so interesting "? He was also laughing for no reason...
Nahh Its L he write his name L write his name to that piece of paper u know when he laugh like a maniac holding the pencil.
Its why ryuk was laughing in the end
@@elie4946 because it dint do nothing?
Sabine B. And L saw the page where it said light turners heart stops burn or whatever

I think he thought it was interesting that L doesnt write lights name idk tho mines a basic theory
Or l wrote his own name
@benjovi55 This is why the Netflix movie is so damn stupid. Ryuk is supposed to be neutral. He is supposed to be enjoying what Light is doing and Light isn't supposed to be a pussy bitch about using the death note.
Ray Torres agreed
@@zoxr2872 I agree. I'm pretty sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. Ryuk's comment is a hint into that direction.My theory:
I think that L is conflicted for various reasons and also needs to learn more about how the killings really work. Most probably L wrote light's name on the deathnote
Laksh mendiratta oh shit you’re probably right
One of the main rules in the anime is that is light is ever close to death ryuk would be the one who writes his name in the book
I didnt think of that actually, sequel with Near and Mellow?
Dee Tavares Mello*
I was thinking the same exact thing
FluffehRaven that would be perfect for a sequel! Considering that Light's father actually found out that Light is Kira at the end... So no loose ends... Other then L who has been discredited by the end of the movie...
I don't agree with that since at the end of the movie, there's a really little detail about L's face that just says to me that he wouldn't want to be like Light, he wouldn't want be like Kira by killing a person with the death note. The way L at the end of the movie moved his head in a denying tone just gave me this idea.
They should have made a mini series instead of a movie.
infamousdrifter1 that's better
infamousdrifter1 When I saw the trailer I thought it was
infamousdrifter1 or neither. Personally I think they should have made a sequel series.
That's what we said about IT the miniseries but we made it a movie
Kira is dead
The best ending that would continue the story, would be that L writes down Light's fathers name, to have him experience the pain of losing a loved one. (Also matching the ending song)
Yup, I agree.
Cakepieification please don't continue the story XD
Cakepieification what's the ending song. I dont wanna look it up in too lazy......k I'll do it
Sounds like a saw ending
Experience losing a loved one? Light already lost his mom and Mia. He already knows how that feels. That would be a little overkill and a really boring ending. From what i gather from the ending is that L stops laughing before righting down a name. As if he realizes that Mai was Kira all along. Since she is the one with a deathnote page in her calculus book. L loops pretty surprised as well. Maybe light had an other plan how to get to L's real name and gave with a heart attack right before he could right it down.
I heard the Netflix one was trash, I love the anime, but really “Light turner” wtf soo disappointing
Ikr I don't even wanna see it 🤣
There's a duality.
-----
What I found helped me appreciate the film is accepting beforehand that movies are not manga or serialized anime.
Anthony Hauser bro I’m not about to read all that but the movies was hot garbage.

The kills look like final destination kills tbh
indeed
In my opinon, L did not write Lights name on the page he found on the calculus book. He seems to be ready to write it down when he sees the pic of Light and Mia.
Then he laughs and points the pen on the page, a second look on the picture of the two kira, he stops and looks slowly down as if mentaly saying;
" If i kill Light, ill have revenge. But if i do kill him... Then ill just be bad as him."
So to me, he didnt write the name, that would make it too obvious that he would for revenge.
@@martinkolakowski2888 L probably wrote James's name. To merely be even with light. Ya know... So they both lost someone they love? Idk. Jus sayin.

That... doesn't really show anything.
true, felt like they needed to wrap up the whole thing so it really just felt a little too convenient.
How does he burn the page? he plans it to fall in the fire?"
its all opinions of course, but that to me made it so the "victory" wasn't really earned for the character. Don't you think?
Na I think he killed lights father in response to light killing his father figure it would make the most sense
you're an idiot
I mean, the Death Note special for the anime summarised the entire first arc into 2 hours, and the second arc in a second special. Summarising the entirety of Death Note in 2 hours seems very doable, or at least the majority of the important information of L and Light's clash, and it had already been done incredibly well.
Also, was there a reason the location setting and story was changed so much from the original? Hell, even Light's name was changed from 'Yagami' to 'Turner'.
Bad Request just a general Americanization in order to attempt to appeal to an audience wider than anime fans
Bad Request I think the movie also wanted to do its own thing
there's nothing wrong with that. they'd have to hire nothing but foreign actors and film overseas otherwise. what's the point when this is an american adaption.
You decide.

How can a battle of wits be validated if they made both these characters ruled by their emotions and easily influenced by others? anime fans are so easily butthurt man
I thought it was a good movie
of course its not as great and complex as the full anime series but as a movie on its own it doesnt deserve all the hate it gets
NotSoSuave Y'know what? Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the creators of Death Note LOVED the Netflix remake. So don't bitch about it that much, dude.
NotSoSuave
The anime shouldn’t be what makes this a good or a bad movie HOWEVER I do agree that they could’ve stayed true to the anime a little better.
L wrote Light’s dad’s name. He took something important from L so he wants revenge.
You're the only person i've seen who actually viewed this adaptation in a more positive manner, and putting aside my personal feelings on this adaptation of death note, i respect your opinion 👍
Yes it's always good to see you post
Anyone gonna bring up how L's gun was THAT gun? Pretty sick reference!
Knight Artorias Looked like the gun from Blade Runner.
What do you mean?
Sam.E.A L's gun was made to look like Dekard's gun from Bladerunner, and in Fallout New Vegas you can find the gun and use it, but it's called "That Gun" in your inventory.
Knight Artorias oh
Knight Artorias haha i enjoy fnv
Mia killing the cops was the most savage part of the movie
Best of Instagram agreed
TopEditz FBI you mean?
You misspelled stupid
When I watched it for 3 times, I think L didnt write Light's name
1, if he is based from the Anime, L never wanted to be like the criminals he catch and probably be reminded by Watari via Flash back
2, Light said calculus book, not a Death Note, and it was found at Mia's House, he could tell that Mia is the one doing the killing and specially when the page fell with Light's name, eh should figure out that Light is under the control of Mia
3, Upon Mia's death means Watari's Killer is also Dead
As for number 3, since Watari died and it was Light who wrote his name in the book, plus Mia died, means that Light gets off Scot-free as no one knows what killed Watari except for the officers.
1 is debunked with this
Black L is the same as Anime L, he wanted revenge which drastically changes him
He stole a gun not a taser or stun gun, which means he was more intent on killing rather than arresting Turner
He should have put Kim jun ung
Probie no because you have to know there face don't talk like you know
And trump
I was thinking the same thing while watching it!!!
one reason that would fk shit up china would have a fkn melt down and it would probably cause a war to break out even faster because multiple countrys would fight them in a weaknd state so it wouldn't be that good of a decision

Ya I think that was a mistake that light made.
but of course, there is no way to avoid dying if your name has been written in the deathnote. you can manipulate the circumstances but that is it, once you write a name that person is dead no matter what you try to save them.

I wouldn’t mind them making a sequel of this movie I mean it got most of the information I need right just with a tiny twist i like the anime but I like the different twist this movie threw at you I give it 8/10
they made light look naive but overall the movie isnt bad so id give it a 8/10 too
They should expand the Death Note "Universe".
They could make another Death Note Anime with new characters, plot, et cetera.
I'd love that.
Yes! This! Let's do this!
well there is a japanese movie sequel that follows the other japanese live action( wich are real adaptations that actually respect the characters and plot and style even if they make a few changes to fit it in two movies) in fact there are two movie sequels ( one about L and a different case and one about six death notes falling on earth 10 years after the events on death note) and a book about called another note, written as is mello wrote it and that covers the story of beyond birthday, L, and the wammy's house and explains why L actually believes in shinigamis and was so scared when misa mentions the shinigamis and the eye in the video of the " second kira"
another note also explains why naomi misora ( ray penber's fiancee)knew L.
@@nessyness5447 thanks for the info
This movie works as a Rom-Com Horror film. It's best viewed as something completely separate from the revered anime. Standout out performance LaKeith Williams, and a decent soundtrack ( although used strangely. ) I'd generously give it a 7/10.
NastyNick TV I would disagree partially with the score to 6 but a merciful 7 is ok The cast is also decent wish they would have at least made Kira a little more smart and not on a rage boner for murder
NastyNick TV I didn't know there was an anime about so that's what I rated it
I'd say a solid 7 is fair score and I'm actually inclined to agree with you on it.
..
NastyNick TV I give it a 6 for limited appeal
Came here for the ending and got the whole movie what a nice guy
I just watched it. And I think it's an eye for an eye with L right at the end. I think that L wrote Lights dad onto the note. If it wasn't for Light, Watari would still be alive, but killing Light is letting him get off easy. But by killing his father, after losing Mia, he'll have to suffer even further.
Was going to sleep....see a notification from foundflix

Great video. Excellent breakdown.
First why did they not call Light Yagami and changed to Light Turner also ryuk is not a demon he is a shinigami/god of death
Cause it took place in the us not japan.
@@arseneloopy8556 then at least don't call him ligh, is not an american name, at least not one used and who the hell has turner as last name and names their son light? light turner? really? is like painting a target for jokes about his name on his back
@@nessyness5447 same logic for light as a Japanese name.
@@TheOriginal_Unaleska yeah but but if his parents decided to give him a weird non japanese is not that bad, the problem with keeping the name light and adding the last name turner is that light turner sounds like a joke name , like imagine school " hey turner, turn on the light" ( then again the entire movie looks like a joke) if they were going to keep the name light why not keep yagami too and make him an asian american? there were asian american actors who wanted the part.( then again given the script maybe it was better for them they got rejected)
nessy ness
That’s an opinion. Hope you know that. :)
I had one of those books and I wrote names of already dead people and for some of them I wrote the deaths of them and I left it in the grass at school.
I think L did write Light's name because in the end Ryuk was talking to him about who strange the human's life is, so that means Light died in the hospital
11:38 well sort of. Light wrote a conditional statement in the book, which her grabbing the book fulfills and will result in her death.
Brandon Reed He didn't, he write down that she will.
He should write lights fathers name down. That way light knows how L feels and revenge at the same time.
i believe he wrote Light's fathers name down
MrAntony2you I like that, L knows it would destroy Light because the one person he wouldn't kill (even if it would have saved his ass) was his father. Light's closest friend for his own.
yeah i think they'd risk too much if they straight out kill off Light for his father to take the mantle, plus killing his father would give him more of the drive to go after L
If they did I feel that open it up for a second movie.
MrAntony2you his father wouldnt take the mantle also why write his father's name if you can kill light??? He was going to write lights name
I watched the film not having seen the anime, and I quite enjoyed it. And I wanted to see more, so I watched the anime and it was so much better. Now looking back on the movie it's not that good
ToxicPickle
Let me bet:
It's mediocre
I had a simmilar experience with the MazeRunner Books
After I watched the Movie my father told me that there were also books
So after reading the book I was freaking annoyed by the fact of it only being half of the book completely rewritten to a way worse version
And all in one it is just a mediocre movie and that based on a book that can be put perfectly into a movie
(2nd movie was alwful... I can't say anything different:
1 Okey
2 OH PLEASE GOD NO WHAT IS THIS BASED ON)
ToxicPickle [][][] Comments like yours sir, are the only silver lining to this terrible adaptation. Glad you liked the anime :)
Same..though to me, not putting it next to the anime, it's ok.
Neglar good theory first like
I recommend you rewatch the scene in which L breaks in the house to get the Death Note page from the calculus book.
Patrick Lee thanks almsot forgot
This is the first review of the film I’ve seen that doesn’t absolutely bash on it.
Riuk's comment at the end along with Light's reaction leads me to believe that L did write his name
Plot Twist: All along a possessor of Death Note was writing the names of the groups of people who initially survived freak accidents in all the Final Destination movies
right? this movie wasn't death note it was a sequel of final destination with death using a human minion and a killing notebook XD
cool movie and i'd love to see what you could do next with your you tube channel keep up the amazing work!
The twist was we went in expecting to see a decent movie and instead we got hot garbage thrown at us.

Brandon Shave you're the real mvp
Brandon Shave amen

(It’s not difficult the one page they have was found in her calculus book in her home with her handwriting, and he could have painted the death of his mothers killer as a sick favor done by Mia)
2) actually making a real Misa character and not mia (not difficult and his past experience with mia would explain his behavior towards misa in a logical way, this would also explain the appeal of the more subservient misa.)
3) after this they would have the L task force formed, the choice for the police between their jobs and the investigation, the surveillance of lights home, the chip scene, the confinement of misa and light, his loss of memory, the handcuffs fight scene, and ending similarly to the Japanese live action film.
Wasnt that the black guy from Get Out? I like the Netflix version but i Love the first 2 live action movie that was subtitled.
BLACKJOKER83 no
BLACKJOKER83 yes he is the guy from get out
BLACKJOKER83 he isnt the guy fron get out they look nothing alike
BLACKJOKER83 Yes Get Out and FX's Atlanta with Donald Glover.
Sir bitches definitely him look it up and face and name is in the cast.
It can't be called Death Note if its not even in the same genre. it doesn't work
rip Misa-Misa I mean "Mia"
L Didn't write the name BECAUSE THOSE names were ON MIA'S page in her room. KNOWING now Light wasn't the one who killed his mentor, BUT also since he JUST saw light make an elaborate situation TO stop his name from finishing the curse. Since L didn't get to read the book and rules, he HAS to figure out IF Light's able to do it again. I Loved the Movie, I loved william Dafoe in it, I hate how no one else loved it.
Ryuk's was laughing at the end of the movie and Light looks over to him and say's what?
I dare anyone who says this movie sucks to actually critique it. Not compare it to the original anime, it's an adaption not gonna be exactly the same. Actually critique it from a film aspect.
corporatestatusbrah actual critics already have, and they agree it's trash. Plus if you've seen the anime and watched the manga, how are you not going to compare the adaptation to the source material.
Plot holes.
And no one has explained why it's trash yet ?
Manslaughter list them
IPlayGamesLate ugh thanks for proving my point.
I don't think L wrote Light's name in the note because then L would be no better than Light if he did
Luke B but light “killed” L’s partner
This is a different L. It's not the same L from the anime. L in the anime/manga's real name is L. Lawliet. L's real name in the Netflix movie is Leben Dorn. Different L so you don't know what he'll do.
i agee... even thou his dad figured it out i dont think L can kill light it would ultimatley make him look like kirra
It's not about justice at all.
Jack Ryan??
XMACHOXMANX iiggb
saw it and said no way!
XMACHOXMANX you noticed that too.
Willem Dafoe plays a great Ryuk.
Finally someone who isn't blinded by nostalgia, don't get me wrong, the anime/manga is WAY superior, but the movie isn't bad, just not as good
Jevan Red The movie is pretty terrible, not solely because the movie can't stack up to the brilliance of the source material but also because the respect of the source material definitely wasn't there.
Jevan Red I love the anime and I've seen all version of death note and I actually liked the movie
He never said the movie was good. He just walked the movie through in a high pitched voice lol
Jevan Red its really bad...
i think that the movie was wonderful on it's own a few things could have been better but it was much better then i was expecting.

I love how positive you are
I think L put lights dad on the note papper
Because it's too easy to write Light's name down. That's not how L ever wanted to do things, he's a mastermind, and meeting light, who is also a mastermind, creates a huge wave of curiosity. I agree he wrote the dad's name down, because L's closest father figure was killed, and he wishes to inflict the same grief. Especially because Light doesn't know L's name yet, it gives L quite a large "power field" to play in for a short while. It's a sociopathic kinda of get up. pretty common sense though.
Because he took who he loved the most and L doing the same would make perfect sense plus it's perfect timing since his dad knows he's Kira
