Salieri is one of the greats. He was actually much more popular than Mozart in Wien. The only reason why his music stopped being played was because of the highly nationalistic movements after Mozart's death. Salieri is still very popular in Italy to this day. He did inaugurate the Scala at Milano
Wow, Salieri's music isn't near as bad as they portray in Amadeus. He may be comparatively obscure as a composer, but his music is well-written. When I played this for one of my friends without telling them who wrote it, they thought it was Mozart! I'm sure Salieri would have been pleased to hear that. :)
Robert Olin His music isn't portrayed that badly in Amadeus. The little piano piece he made for Mozart's entrance may have been simple but he was still recognised as the Kappelmeister (court composer). Only Mozart really mocked him, and Mozart was pretty caricatured in the film. Salieri was one of the greatest of the era, taught by Gassman, he actually helped further Mozart's career and they even composed together, though that work was sadly lost. He also went on to teach , amongst others, List, Schubert and Beethoven. His music is most definitely worth a youtubing.
***** By the way, the movie Amadeus is mainly fiction, based on a play written by Peter Shaffer, who based his play on a short by Alexander Pushkin. Salieri did not actually kill Mozart like in the movie.
I know, was just making the point that his music wasn't represented that badly in the film. When I wrote that he helped further Mozart's career that's referring to history, not the film.
Robert Olin Yes, because he stole this from Mozart, and no he would be furious if he know people today thought of Mozart for everything from his era. He killed *Mozart, I seen it on television.
Wow he is so underrated.... I had no idea how great his compositions were... jeez. Shame on me for believing how he was portrayed in the movie Amadeus!
+Lauren Solano even in the movie it is clear that he is anything but musically untalented. We see him reading musical scores and mentally "hearing" them. We see him conducting his own works and tutoring talented singers, and his own envious assessment of Mozart's abilities compared to his own is only possible from one who is on a similar level as Mozart. Even the simple little march that he composed for Mozart is not so much simple as made to be playable by his employer.
Ok to people who are saying wtf, basically the amalgamation of the man in grey, salieri and the rumor that salieri killed Mozart manifested into a magic bard demon thing in an alternate eternally frozen Russia inhabited by wolf human chimeras and he’s playing a rendition of dies irae on the only piano in that world to weaken a giant saber tooth mammoth Ivan the terrible monster who has been ruling over the land for like 450 years while the main character fights Ivan on top of a giant golem made by Solomon ibn Gabirol using the minotaur’s labyrinth. Also in the main supporting cast there’s Sherlock Holmes and Leonardo da Vinci, who manifested with the appearance of the Mona Lisa and now looks 12 because he/she lost most of his/her power, as well as a girl who used to get powers from Galahad from the Arthurian legends and in your journey through this under -100 degrees Russia you meet atalante from Greek mythology, king Beowulf from English literature and billy the kid
The way I found Antonio Salieri was through the Fate Grand Order application. They depicted him as the fictional version due to everyone believing that over the truth, therefore the character doesn't even believe he even is himself in the first place. It's kinda cool.
@@katharsistheme2919 For Sherlock, the game says that since he was based on real detectives, he's technically summonable, theories say he's like Moriarty (Composite/Multiple phantoms) except as a foreigner As for Sali, his existence is a mix of him as a murderer and the "true" musician Salieri, manifested in his Mystic Code all because he was made into a scapegoat

Salieri is a genius and his influence is largely forgotten after all he taught Beethoven, and his other pupils included, Schubert, Meyerbeer. Liszt and Franz Xavier Mozart (Amadeus' son)
Whilst some in the past have criticized this composer - there is nothing superficial nor mediocre about this sublime Requiem. It is expressive in mood, well-written, touching the listener's higher emotions, yet suitably-restrained in the more joyous passages. Salieri seems to have a spiritual dimension, considering that this setting has a devotional self-effacing thread throughout as a Liturgical composition ought to. At this Commemorative time of year, I also can say : RIP, Antonio Salieri.
It is gems like this, that are the very reason I am in my masters for 18th century music...people seek so much do discredit these other composers, and it's high time they are represented in the world they shared before us.
This is not mediocrity, though Mozart still rules forever. Hollywood, thanks for letting me know Salieri and looking for his music. It a pleasure listening to this music.

Those of you here from FGO: This is NOT the Requiem Salieri plays the Dies Irae movement from in the game. He's playing the Dies Irae from *Mozart's* Requiem. For those of you who have no idea what's going on, people are here because of a video game.
Lmao I was incredibly frustrated because I'm a dumbass and I thought the game completely sampled Mozart's Requiem instead of Salieri's own work for his attacks (as during this you can hear the Buster and Quick card sounds), but no, this is an entirely different Requiem, and I was just too busy complaining to actually listen to the music and just shut up.

I've listened to Salieri's other works, but it's music that has a different charm from Mozart. He is underestimated. During his lifetime he was left to the court chapel master in Vienna. He was the second most popular person in Europe at the time after Haydn.
Music like this explains why Constanze Mozart, wife of you-know who, asked Salieri to be the Music teacher for her son, Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart. Which Salieri did without payment of any kind.
I haven't seen the movie but I had just about heard of Salieri. If this music is anything to go by then he was as much a genius as Mozart, but why make judgement at all ? Just be thankful that beautiful music like this is available for all to appreciate.
I really can't understand how Salieri was demonized in such a manner in the film "Amadeus", and even portrayed as a mediocre composer. It is the first time I hear this, and I find nothing wrong or trivial. In fact, it is an excellent piece. Really, the movie should be remade.
The story of the movie never said he was mediocre. Just that he professed to feel that way in comparison to Mozart, based on his real-life proclamation in his last years that he killed Mozart (which he didn't really do). And it's true that his music faded into obscurity over the time while Mozart's endured; if not for Amadeus, not nearly as many people would've heard of him.
so proud to find that it plays the orchestra of my home country Moldova! Please read some books before considering the Amadeus Film or other historical artistic movie so serious.
Correct. Amadeus is entertainment, not music history. From what I understand, there is no evidence to suggest that there was any animosity between Mozart and Salieri.
I recall reading that while the EVENTS depicted in the play and film are not strictly historical, the dialogue and many situations are based on actual events and - in the case of the original stage play - based on word for word translations of actual letters written by Mozart and others involved. Of course the film version dressed things up quite a bit, but I would never presume to think that any Hollywood film is 100% accurate.
Thank you, for the comment. Composer Antonio Salieri deserves the kindest words not only as an outstanding composer who wrote a huge number of works in different genres, but also as a wonderful person and educator who brought up a number of outstanding composers. Suffice it to mention the names of Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Czerny, Meyerbeer and many others.
A number of the reactions have left me puzzled. I thought that this feature 'Amadeuz' was a documentary with actual footage of the persons and events depicted. Probably found on rolls of film long forgotten in some cellar. Boy am I glad that this has been cleared up! Turns out Salieri was the GOAT of composers, and this his Crowning Masterpiece. Forget about that amadeuz-character, THIS is the real deal!
It has always been a fact that some very virtuous composers and musicians do not get the praise that they deserve. Salieri was pretty well-known during his time, but now he is almost forgotten. This is mostly due to character assassinations that started during the nationalism period of the 19th and 20th century. He was a great composer, no doubt about that.
+wolffe93 Wrong. Character assassinations? Please. He is forgotten because no one programs such uninspired crap when there is so much great music to perform. Have fun listening to this piece on a deserted island, if the opportunity arises.
I can now understand why Salieri retired at the beginning of the 19th century and why he quietly rejected the new forms that were appearing as chaotic. There is a straightforward simplicity to Salieri's music which nonetheless shows great skill and mastery - echoing Vivaldi to a significant extent. There is a manic creativity to Mozart's compositions which Salieri lacks - yet Salieri is nevertheless clearly a master in his own right.
It's ironic that the movie ,more or less vilified Salieri , yet had the effect of bring his music to a lot of people, including myself, who had never heard it.

Yes, repair the damage and bring his genius to the sleeping world.
Flip the switch, making Mozart the young brash beast, desiring fame but never attaining it😢
😂😂❤
A movie on the life of salieri is needed
Compositore ingiustamente sottovalutato!
That last sentence made me smile :) When I researched his music it was a lot better than expected (mainly because of the movie).
"underrated"
Beethoven, once his pupil for vocal music, liked and revered him very much all his life.
Agree 100% it is amazing!!!)
Shame on you, you suck, boooooo😂😂😂😂
Salieri was a genius too, many people think that he was a failure just by the movie which is fictional.
CIERTO ! SIN LUGAR A DUDA QUE ¡ES UNA GRAN OBRA MUY BELLA ! TIENE DE TODO UN POQUITO . EL ACOMPAÑAMIENTO DE LA MÚSICA CON LAS VOCES ¡ES EXCELENTE !
Yo people would be sooo confused as to why people in the comment section mention about Salieri vs Ivan the Terrible like wth
I am, believe me, I have no fucking idea oif what you all are talking about haha
Isn't it come from a game? fate grand order? I think I'm not sure
A Reaper From Hell Yup, u’re right. It’s from the plot of the game.
@@areaperfromhell4515 Yes it is.
FGO Lostbelt 1 brought me here. Shit, Salieri is insane during fight with Ivan the Terrible.
Dies Irae in the background! (also imagine a non-fate fan reading this)
badrul ezudin glad I got him, his 3rd ascension is badass
The way I found Antonio Salieri was through the Fate Grand Order application.
They depicted him as the fictional version due to everyone believing that over the truth, therefore the character doesn't even believe he even is himself in the first place. It's kinda cool.
You mean like Sherlock right? Everyone know he is a fictional character but everyone wonder why he can manifest in... You know... Umm... "real world"?
@@katharsistheme2919 For Sherlock, the game says that since he was based on real detectives, he's technically summonable, theories say he's like Moriarty (Composite/Multiple phantoms) except as a foreigner
As for Sali, his existence is a mix of him as a murderer and the "true" musician Salieri, manifested in his Mystic Code all because he was made into a scapegoat
you damn weeb, I love you

#Salierididnothingwrong
#Salierididnotkillmozart

That's a master piece!
I wasn't expecting that, Amadeus gave bad idea of him
It is gems like this, that are the very reason I am in my masters for 18th century music...people seek so much do discredit these other composers, and it's high time they are represented in the world they shared before us.

This is not mediocrity, though Mozart still rules forever. Hollywood, thanks for letting me know Salieri and looking for his music. It a pleasure listening to this music.
Mozart’s son was actually a student of his.
This is a music of gods! What a wounderful harmonies and melodies?! Genius
God is one and he is simply Allah Almighty.

Salieri, one of the best composers I've heard.. Better than many.
Piękna, szlachetna , wspaniała muzyka. Prosto w serce, prosto w dusze.
Both Requiems , one from Mozart and one from Salieri are equal wonderfull., top, finest classic musik !!°
Not less than Mozart nor Beethoven in my ears. Surely one of the best composers of all times.
Thank God for the movie Amadeus, otherwise we (a lot of us) wouldn't know who Salieri is.
+Leonardo Ljuljduraj I know who he is, but now know indeed what trash he "composed."
Yes, this is a fantastic piece of music. Also, there is no basis in reality for the rivalry portrayed in that movie between Mozart and Saliari.
This is not true. He is in every book about music even before the movie.
organboi Hahahahahah you should study music history
That's true.
Man, the amount of FGO players in the comment section is a sight to see.
Also, the amount of people who get r/Whoosh-ed is just as amazing
who's also here after hearing those sick tunes from fgo's salieri
legit my 5th time checking this out.
Mainly came cause of fgo, stayed for the music.
@@markguirguis9846 so damn true
Never thought that they'd make a servant this epic with those glorious music tho
Also for a 3* he has some of the best animations.
This should implement more of his music in his attacks, also having a salieri sound track in my room would be sick too
If only Ivan The Terrible still had Salieri's Dies Irae as a background when fights as a summoned servant then that would be sick.
wow! this requiem is fabulous
Salieri is very underated composer
Those of you here from FGO:
This is NOT the Requiem Salieri plays the Dies Irae movement from in the game. He's playing the Dies Irae from *Mozart's* Requiem.
For those of you who have no idea what's going on, people are here because of a video game.
I might be here cause of a game but i stayed cause holy god this music is beautiful.
Simplemente es hermoso, rico, solemne, e increíble. Salieri fue un genio consagrado

ha! its not like salieri gave them the talent they had.
WIthout question the greatest Requiem ever written, and this is by far the best rendition of this unbeatable piece. Truly fantastic!
Fully agree, I am so glad that finally someone has recognized these undeniable FACTS!
I've listened to Salieri's other works, but it's music that has a different charm from Mozart. He is underestimated. During his lifetime he was left to the court chapel master in Vienna. He was the second most popular person in Europe at the time after Haydn.
This music is beautiful. And so italian: sentimental, passionate, cathartic.
I just love how all the chorus voices mimic and follow the violins and horns!
Just be thankful that beautiful music like this is available for all to appreciate.
bravo signore!
I really can't understand how Salieri was demonized in such a manner in the film "Amadeus", and even portrayed as a mediocre composer. It is the first time I hear this, and I find nothing wrong or trivial. In fact, it is an excellent piece. Really, the movie should be remade.
A motion picture should be called Salieri but tell the real truth.
Good composer! Amadeus character of Salieri is like a cartoon, truly!
It's time someone made a new MOVIE about MOZART but with Salieri as the Salieri he was and not as a Murderer. Salieri deserves better!
so proud to find that it plays the orchestra of my home country Moldova!
Please read some books before considering the Amadeus Film or other historical artistic movie so serious.
Thank you!
Hei, Român here! :))
Musica celestiale, Salieri è un gigante!

Salieri was a genius. His compositions are always very impressive.

salieri is underrated!

Forget about that amadeuz-character, THIS is the real deal!
salieri, maestro de maestros
Divino, majestuoso
It has always been a fact that some very virtuous composers and musicians do not get the praise that they deserve.
Salieri was pretty well-known during his time, but now he is almost forgotten.
This is mostly due to character assassinations that started during the nationalism period of the 19th and 20th century.
He was a great composer, no doubt about that.
+wolffe93 Wrong. Character assassinations? Please. He is forgotten because no one programs such uninspired crap when there is so much great music to perform. Have fun listening to this piece on a deserted island, if the opportunity arises.
+organboi shut up, and get a life. You just go around to every post acting like a child trying to sound smarter then they really are.
antonio was a great composer, he is certainly an example for many musicains and like Mozart he was his time far for...
Majestic. Rest in peace Salieri. The Victor of ordinary Humans.
It's ironic that the movie ,more or less vilified Salieri , yet had the effect of bring his music to a lot of people, including myself, who had never heard it.
Just proves the fine line between being merely adequate and truly genius is the 100 mile wide field of inspiration.
