I never heard about Haydn's piece... and today I learn how it has inspired my fav composer's masterpiece! it's like finding the Holy Grail for me!! and I can hear everywhere accents of Mozart's partition.... Thank you so much for sharing!! no share, no grail for me!
Siamo vicini alla grande incognita. Altissima tensione spirituale, magnifico pathos, altrettanto la commozione, la speranza, la paura, la trasfigurazione. Sulla paternità dell'opera, che ciascuno dica la sua.
I am totally mystified as why the genius of Johann Michael Haydn is not more widely recognized. This sublime Requiem should be a part of the classical music standard repertoire.
According to Wikipedia this work was actually composed by Georg von Pasterwitz: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compositions_by_Michael_Haydn#Requiem A fine piece, whoever was responsible for it!
Brendan Ward : No, this is not correct! This Mass is (K I:8), MH 155 pro defunto Archiepiscopo Sigismundo by Michael Haydn and not the Requiem in c-moll MH 559; Incorrectly attributed to Michael Haydn, written by Georg von Pasterwitz !!!!
Amade and his father even are believed to have PLAYED in the first and two following performances, only what is not known is which instruments each of them played, could have been violin, viola or organ. It's not imaginable they attended 3 consecutive performances, which is proven, and not having participated.
Mozart listened to this piece several times when it was first performed. It later influenced him into writing his own Requiem..
Where did you take that information?
look the biography of michael haydn or on the wikipedia of michael haydn !
Just compare the two, lol
Also K.341 has similiar features
I think Christian Bach influenced Mozart way more, as the works are almost identical.

Impressionnant et magnifique. Merci pour ce partage.
I finally came back to this spectacular requiem. "Cum Sanctis Tuis" is one of the greatest choral fugues I have heard.
The funeral of His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Otto of Austria brought me here!
Same here
Wolfgang A. and Leopold Mozart played at the premiere of this Requiem in Salzburg with the Hofkapelle.
Great, helping me cope on death watch. God Bless the living!
Requiems are made in deathbeds so I can imagine
it is gloomy, spooky at the same time divine and holy. an unflawed masterpiece. mükemmel!
The first time i heared this.Indeed Mozart take a lot of stuff from this piece.
Beautiful, amazing piece.
Splendid! Thank you for uploading this fine performance!

Very fine and lovely performance
G.B Pergolesi: Stabat Mater ---> M.Haydn: Requiem ---> W.A Mozart: Requiem
Unfair comparison, Mozart's is unfinished.

Haydn's pieces are beautiful and resounding.
lorena mares it’s not a piece by J. Haydn
@@arkady0177 She didn't say that it was a piece by J. Haydn.
¡Bello! ¡Emocionante! Quien fue el primer patrón "bueno" de Mozart no merecía menos que esto.
This is Haydn : highly spiritual; this performance is just an amazing grace to listen to…

I'm always a fan of a good Requiem
The opening few minutes are astounding
Hermoso... Que manera mas hermosa de ir al mas allá.

GREAT and DRAMATIC!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

MAGNIFICENT!!!
Splendid stuff.
wonderful!
I love it.
This reflects my metaphysical needs
Is it that difficult for you to say "spiritual" rather than "metaphysical"?
Overlooked sacred gem by the younger of the Haydn's. The influence over Salzburg's genius is all over the place.
Splendid

It is at the very least a contender for that accolade.

Scio qui studied Mozart
In this case, it seems that Mozart studied Michael Haydn.
