Cliff hanger ending. Can I make two suggestions please : 1) The best fuel guage is a simple wooden dipstick. 100% reliable, simple, easy to calibrate, cost effective, needs no electricity. What is not to like ! 2) I think you are storing your petrol generator in one hull ? Please, please do not. My friend and neighbour smelt petrol on his boat on arrival, so opened all doors, hatches and windows and left the boat for 3 hours to ventilate. Returned to the boat and could smell nothing. He started the fridge and suddenly there was a pool of blue flame around his knees and throughout the boat, he headed for the companion way (it was also a similar [Catalac] catamaran), the flames turned to an explosion as the air mixed with the petrol vapour and he was blown out of the companion way. Fortunately as everything was open, the pressure escaped without huge damage and he was blown clear. Just a few burns and melted trousers. His wife and child were still safely ashore. The boat was tied alongside, so a few of us could jump aboard and extinguish fires and the fire brigade could attend. Imagine if the boat was at sea, others were down below, the boat was sealed up in heavy weather, someone was off-watch and asleep. It is not worth the chance, store anything with petrol in in a self draining locker separate to the accomodation and away from any sources of ignition. Even if you need to build a special locker, it is worth it. Please Mark do not take the chance.
Engine purrs. Thanks dad. Cockpit, upper cabin deck and cabin sole painted. Storage shelving installed. Auto pilot works. Minke is looking brighter, cleaner and more organized. Good early season start.
Some discarded fishing net might do the trick to keep the new shelves contents spilling out. May be worth another dumpster dive. Yoshi’s really taken to a life of leisure.
Hey Mark you need to build some fiddles on the shelves to prevent things from falling off. Then it will be perfect remember your on a boat you will need those fiddles.
@@WildlingSailing A fiddle on a flat surface on a boat is a raised edge that prevents things from sliding off. If you get some lengths of 'hockey stick' or edge trim that is maybe half an inch wider than the thickness of your shelves, you can simply glue and nail it onto the shelves - it's not expensive. (Think - turning the shelf edge into an 'L' shape).
@@WildlingSailing Fiddles are either fixed or hinged upstands around the edges of a table or a shelf to stop thing sliding off. But you'll need somethig substantial to stop those things sliding off, perhaps a taller fiddle with bolts at either end into the bulkheads.
@@WildlingSailing I think it’s what I described with the strip across the bottom of the shelf. That’s hilarious, I didn’t know what “fiddles” were either & found the same definition as you did before I suggested strips of wood. (I was afraid it might be the same thing!)
Hey kids! The progress on Minke is looking great so far & understandably more to catch up on. I.e., a fuel gauge or at least a dip stick! Sound proof that engine box!! Have assorted zip ties on hand. Otherwise..., I'm learning as you guys go & it's not bad! Fair winds...
There's so many yatchy channels that come out on Fridays so it's far more relaxing watching you on a Sunday over poached eggs and coffee. Waiting in anticipation for your next sea voyage 😎😎😎
Use wire wool and light oil to remove the rust from your saw then wipe off the oil and rub candle wax on the saw. This not only protects it from rusting again it also acts as a lubricant when cutting, rub more wax on before putting the saw away.
I always wipe the saw blade down with thinner then grab whatever can of spray paint is on hand and give the blade a generous coating after it dries it can be stowed with less mess. That goes for all the exposed metal tools also.
The boat is looking amazing! You guys have really put in a lot of work. Nadiana has the galley looking so bright and cheerful! Like the new hair Mark 👍👍
I think the Cat looks Fab guy's! Painting the cockpit just made it special... An the cork floor looks beautiful... As well as the shelves...! It is really nice to follow a vlog with down to earth people that get by on an "average Joe" income and not just throw thousands of dollars at each job. The results of all your hard work the both of you (and some help from your parents) have put in is turning the old girl into a quite a nice home. Well done guys 👍👍
Great video guys, so much done and the boat is looking very fresh and the engine is also sounding great. I’m getting vibes of running out of diesel but maybe not. You are smiling so all good. Andy UK
Good to see you are getting more organised...I wonder if netting in front of your new shelves would be cool... Maybe some permanent hooks and a net that you put up when sailing....?!? Keep doing what you are doing...enjoy the freedom..! 😘
Mark, I notice when you are sawing it's hard to stabilise your work. You will find it easier if you rub a wax candle over the saw and apply less pressure to the saw.
To go further on the 2 saw comment. You need a crosscut saw with teeth that have more of a ‘set’. Then a fine tooth saw with smaller teeth, less of a ‘set’ or take your saw and have it sharpened by a pro.
When I used to have that problem with my cross bed toolbox in my pickup years ago the blades of a hand saw would get a little rusty so I would just put a little melted butter on it and wipe it down good or even some oil so it will cut easier but not so much that it will stain any wood that you're cutting
wow looking great the cockpit all cleaned up, you much feel chuffed when you see it....Minke is transforming each week she is more beautiful....you need to do a fast before and after video just to remind yourselves how far you have come
You pair deserve all the luck in the world. Two very nice people, living a life that so many people would give anything to have. Can't tell you how much I look forward to Friday evenings and your updates. Look after yourselves sail safely.

Guys if you put some netting around the boat off the stanchions, you wouldn't have to tie Yoshi to a life line when underway. He can then have the run of the boat and you get peace of mind as well.
A piece of light wood in front of all the shelves would contain all the items... attach the wood as you like.. maybe just short cables and hooks.... maybe a fabric on the shelves to reduce sliding and other movement... even velcro on the cases.... lots of choices.... cheap, quick and effective.... ,
Hello , your catamaran is looking great have you thought about a canvas cover over your helm ? i don't even know if there is room just a question , keep up the good work love your dog Yoshi i hope name is right . well take care see you on the next one
Yeah! So very happy to see all your hard work paying off and the boat is coming together nicely. Consider putting seacocks in those holes instead of bungs. That is not safe leaving those thru holes with butal tape and wooden plugs in place. If you just put inexpensive seacocks in those holes you could shut them off and safely keep water out. How many holes do you have? Don't take risks that could sink your boat and endanger your life. Please take care of this now. All three of you are very special. ♡♡♡ God bless. S/V Cork ~
Yes definitely seacocks next job.You have done well and now have a seemingly good engine after all your fine work.Rigging jobs ,then more testing in safe weather close to land, but you know all this.Well done the Wildlings.
Great film. So good to see the boat back on the sea. Can't wait for the cruise to the Balearics. I'd use a stretchy cargo net on hooks to retain the tools in the shelving, albeit in a cat you won't be heeling that much.

'Sea trials' for our old ketch too. Finally. One thing or another, it never seems to end. Fortunately, like you I enjoy it. Certain satisfaction that comes from restoring abandoned boats, tackling the work oneself. My engine, an old Volvo, is tired. Low compression. Rebuild or replace? Meanwhile, the big trip, three months, up north is fast approaching. When tacking, especially with a catamaran, wait till the jib is well backwinded before releasing the windward jib sheet. Helps pull the bow thro' the wind and makes it easier to sheet in on the new side
Nice hair cut 👍 You really need a cellar for the tools 😊 You could get some bungee cords to keep the stuff on the shelfs. Youre both doing great jobs, sailing soon ⛵ 2x👍
Netting works great for keeping my gear in place and can be found free in most ports. It's all looking very nice, spring cleaning is a THING. I HAVE IT GOING ON TOO.
You could put some of those pine strips across the front of the shelves and have a lip of a inch or so at the bottom ... then the stuff won’t slide out and you just have to lift whatever over the lip to get stuff out. Seems easier & faster than a rope or nets but I haven’t seen the ropes used yet!
You need a dip stick for fuel tanks and calibrate it after you pour in each Jerry can added/ or 4 litres added. You can add fiddles to the front of shelves to keep things on but nets or cords will keep things on better.

I suggest finding a cargo net that you can affix over your storage area. You could even order some quick connect clips for fast access. Hopefully you can McGiver it tightly so nothing spills out while sailing. Just a thought.

Once the rest of the decks have been painted this boat will have a very fresh look making it look much newer than it is.. L.A Rob
Be sure to vary the engine load frequently when running it for extended periods in for the first 50-100 hours. This will help the rings re-bed nicely into those beautiful re honed bores. You’ll still get smoke at startup and don’t be alarmed by possible oil consumption in the early stages.

Yay !! No more blue smoke !!!
A suggestion for the shelves use 8mm bungee cord and some eye loops
Cliff Hanger! Now i cant wait for the next video
Like others have commented use a suitable piece of timber to check the level in your fuel tanks, put some graduations on ie saw cuts to give a reliable reading. This is the standard practise for light aircraft. Good job on the yacht!
Hallo you two de Mercedes runs nice good job mark and your dad 👍🏾👌
Have a good week too :*
No sight glass on the side of that tank I presume? Get a piece of round wood 15mm and mark the top level of your tank. If that tank is square or rectangular and the capacity is known you can mark the capacity on that dipstick.
There are also gravity pump fillers to heave fuel from your fuel canister into the tank, no funnel needed and you do not have to handle/tilt the canister with a possible leaky spout. Especially handy if it is windy and or the boat is moving.
Boats looking great!
The boat looks like a space ship, a unique style. The designers father engineered hypervelocity artillery shells, which could achieve orbit; perhaps an influence. I recall Space 1999 was popular at the time and the Harrier jump jets were in production. The cat has that vibe.
To hold stuff in place ,you can put a runner of wood either side top to bottom, have 2 half shells made 2 measure side down front held in by runners.
Rather than putting in fiddles, you could create a bifold door that would cover all of the bottom shelves but be openable within the space.
That sounds lovely, but it would take me way too long, maybe once I've brushed up my carpentry 😁
@@WildlingSailing some lee cloths or just some rope or bungee cord like you mentioned would do great. Quick and it works.
Sugar soap diluted or neat for stubborn stains is excellent as a multipurpose cleaner, especially for stubborn stains like oil on your blue vinyl cushion seats.
I double that
Any thoughts of building a hardtop over your cockpit to provide sun protection and extend your outdoor space in not so nice conditions? It would be an excellent place for solar panels.
Yes, a great idea. It'd look like one of those boats going nowhere in the corner of the hardstand with a woolworths shed on the cockpit. Nice!!!!
Your right it sounds like a tractor my friend the sound proofing would be well spent money for sure. If you can get the thick stuff. It would cost about £100-£150 very easy to do just have to clean the inside of the engine bay again and it just sticks on use a small roller to make sure its on.
...perhaps a lip on those shelves? ...looking good
Cheap option is that spider netting to run across the front of the shelves to keep them loaded n not unloaded mate good going best of luck to you all
You both should be so proud!
I suggest finding a cargo net that you can affix over your storage area. You could even order some quick connect clips for fast access. Hopefully you can McGiver it tightly so nothing spills out while sailing. Just a thought.
That's called adjusting the flow rate.
How about using some fish netting (like what your fruit is hanging on in the galley) for holding back your tool shelves?
Get that soundproofing done before your passage!! Great vid! Xi xi!
Mark. Try and find sanding mesh, it looks like bug screen but for sanding. It's awesome with fibreglass. You'll and twice as quick and it takes ages to wear out. Almost makes sanding O'glorius
You do realize you can’t use a spirt level on a boat, it’s always moving 👍
Cool, you doing a great job!
