I literally have been searching for this song for 7 years! I heard it many times on the radio 7 years ago and because I wanted to hear more often I went on this search! My goodness! Sai ke tau 'ilo 😂
yeyaaah this brings bak heapsa memories, watching the aunties uncles & older cuzzys partying in the garage, with the stereo & the guitar & everywun singin while sitting on crates
Wow I haven't heard this since the 90s LOL and it was on a radio in my dream last night for some insane reason. Just taken me over an hour to find. Couldn't remember the words or the band. What a cool childhood flashback! !! 😁
Awesome share Puhio. Thanks so much for this. Bassist Pati Umanga was my music teacher years ago and they had not long recorded this when I went into his class. He was like a star... ...a sumo sized star! Kia Kaha!!
In the early 90's they would play this on NZ1 as we approached Auckland after a 26 hour flight from Heathrow . when you heard the song you knew the trip was virtually over
They played this on the TV1 weather May 1st for NZ Music Month and I went to go listen to it, forgot, then couldn't bloody remember it! Spent 5 days trying to figure it out lol. Great song.
thanks for posting this, kiwi here living in singapore and great kiwiani song this one! bring back the eighties of N.Z music. some awesome bands from that period of time.
Her names Mara Finau. I met her once in Wellington, she was very down to earth and humble even though the song was #1 on the charts. From memory, their whole family was pretty talented.
enjoy the music stars here i have met pati umanga for the bass here in paraparaumu at a course he works at the human rights commission i think this day in age. I remember this song on the radio when i was 6 year's old now I am 35 years old in 2017
@MsTinz17 Front singers were Peter Marshall and Mara Finau. the rest of the band was Pati Umaga on bass, Richard Caigou on drums, Barbara Griffin on Keys, Stephen Jessup on guitar, Andrew 'Clyde' Clouston on sax.
i LOVE THIS SONG REMINDS ME OF GOING DOWN TO THE BATCH IN MAKETU,HELPING KUI WITH THE GARDEN,GARAGE DRINKUPS,WATCHING MU CUZINS RUGBY GAMES,NETBALL ON SATURDAY COLD MORNINGS AT AVONDALE COURTS AND WHEN MY AUNTYS ALL DRESSED LIKE THAT
ive just seen a recent photo of Peter Marshall and he's still gorgeous. We used to make eye contact a bit back then. looks like he's still making music
When I heard the original Bill Withers version of this song, I was surprised at how little the Holidaymakers changed when they covered it. They made it a male-female duet, but other than that the musical arrangement is almost identical, including the distinctive steel drum sound.
I saw a documentry on NZ music a couple weeks ago - They had the Holiday Makers on there - The bass player is the singers dad who was a strict man - This song was a big success for them so they tried to release another and it flopped - from there on they didn't release another song - On the 1st verse do you see him doing a cheeky poke from his tongue? Love that bit haha
If you mean the female lead, her name's Mara Finau. Very talented singer... her younger brother was a rapper. The bass players name is Alfred Umaga... another talented Poly. The white female muso was the keyboard player for Southside of Bombay.
Been yonkz since I've seen the video and OMG I know that chick...I think it's Mara??!!!...Wooooaaaahhh!!!...Wow, she sings this NZ Classic???...Gosh, this whole time???...Man!!!...haha!!
Trip down memory lane that is for sure...and that Peter was very tasty :) remember seeing them at Whakapapa, Mt Ruapehu back in the day when I was working there. Lots of good parties with the talent
