Great reaction, on Dan Aykroyd...taken from something he quoted in a magazine Dan Aykroyd: '"Totally by accident. My father and I were interviewing business managers in LA and we walked into this office of a talent manager, and realized we were in the wrong place. I was looking for a money manager, not a talent manager. I had managed myself at that time and always have. But he said, so long as you are here, would you like to come and join this "We are the World" thing.
I thought how do I fit in here? Well, we did sell a few million records with the Blues Brothers and in my other persona I am a musician, so I showed up and was a part of it but it was totally by accident."
Lionel Ritchie & Michael Jackson wrote this brillant song; it was soooooooo amazing to see all the artists come together like this for charity; they were exceptional; I listened to this everyday during the pandemic it gave me hope
Great reaction!
Dan Aykroyd was down the hall @ his manager's. He didn't have anything for Dan & told him about the set-up with Michael Jackson & asked if he could sing. Dan said he could carry a tune & had sung with The Blues Brothers. So he showed up & was accepted..
No egos, No pretentions, No need to be the center of attention, Just amazing singers at the top of their careers, singing simply, for compassion & love ❤️
Dan Akroyd happened to be in the neighboring studio for another function and was asked if he would just like to join in for free. So, he just took a place right at the back. Of course he said Okay and yes, he can sing a bit. (Used to be with the Blues Bros.)
LOL Remember Dan Acaroid was in The Blues Brothers with John Belushi
I think you mean Belushi
@@anthonyflinn3305 oops my bad I'll edit it Thanks
I've watched a bunch of these recently, and i really enjoy the young 'uns who are experiencing this for the first time, and who have little clue as to the unbelievable roster of legends. I also appreciate your perspective, as someone with a few years under their belt, and who is willing to give a sincere opinion! Well done my brother! 😄
I've been watching them as well. If there's one good thing coming out of this quarantine is that so many of the younger generation is discovering older music whilst listlessly going through UA-cam. I am a firm believer that everything goes in circles so I fully expect the genuine spirit in music to make a comeback at some point. Perhaps this is the way it begins. Simple curiosity about the music of the time after stumbling upon one video.
Micheal Jackson could harmonize with literally ANYONE! Endless talent. Not just on his own, but a chameleon that could shift his singing voice key to sound perfect with just about any voice out there. He was just amazing, a born entertainer. This was his calling, clearly. And writing this with Lionel too?!! Holy cow, there just wasn’t anything he couldn’t do ♥️
Love this song and video Thanks for posting I grew up in this time era born in the 60's what a cause of singers to come together to help Amazing Love Michael Jackson
YOU SHOULD GET AN AWARD!!! I've watched DOZENS of reactions to this song and you are the FIRST to recognize James Ingram!!!!! Thank you!!!!
It's freaking awesome that Michael and Lionel wrote the song.
Yes, MJ is the G.O.A.T
Actually Dan Ackroyd is a singer and musician. He was Elwood Blues from The Blues Brothers.
he really doesn't belong with these powerhouses
@@erikchristensen822 If I recall correctly, Dan was nearby when they were recording and I think Quincy Jones invited him to join since he was there, and Dan agreed.
@@erikchristensen822 there were a number of Hollywood actors in the background, I think I heard Brooke Shields was part of the background singers, too.
I used to think the same thing until someone reminded me he was part of The Blues Brothers. Then I was like....'aight, he can be there 😁
I read he was offered one of the lead voices, because it was right at the height of Blues Brothers, but acted out on what he was given, big ego trip, and it was taken from him and given to Huey Lewis
Thats so funny that you said check your egos at the door because Quincy Jones put a sign at the door saing the same thing when they recorded this song.
Greatness will never see again.
So many musical greats in one room amazing this song still makes me cry
I watched this when I was 10 years....the greatest artists together. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song. Love when Michael/Diana ross sing...but my favourite is Springsteen/Stevie wonder part...and Ray Charles.....gave so much soul & funk.
Dan back there looks like the accountant to the studio stayed to work late and was surprised by all those singers! :D
According to what I read, Dan Aykroyd was looking for a manager for a project and met someone who was involved in this, but by chance end up there in the day of the recording.
He ended up making the chorus, but he looks like a fish out of water! :D

Thats a list of the artist from 70s/80s who had a solo part in order from beginning to end and I added a hit song by them by their names so you have a list of songs by them to react to or even listen if you get the time. May you add on you list a reaction for John "Ecstasy' Fletcher for the 80s group Whodini (One of the unique sounds and pioneers in the Hip Hop evolution) who just recently past at 56. One Love is one of their most popular hits that came out around the same time as USA for Africa was out, thats great for reaction if you can do it. Thank you Anthony and have a Merry Christmas💗
Finally! Congrats on knowing who they are. So many don’t even know Diana Ross!😵💫. But I came up ‘60’s & ‘70’s. Still, it’s crazy how the cultural lineage can get so chopped for generations. Lionel had Prince on the phone, but when he told him, ‘Yeah it’s cool man, you’ll be in the booth right next to Michael…’. that was the Debby downer moment. Lionel had to hang up. Prince did donate a song though. He was never into this though. There’s a music awards event where a bunch of them are on stage singing this at the end. Prince is sucking a lollipop, & he clearly is intentionally not singing, & clowning wit Quincy. Trip! You might actually enjoy a live performance in a Kenny Loggins concert, a duet with Shanice called, Love Will Follow. Dan Ackroyd, maybe he was at the Grammys, where every one came from & just tagged along. He was actually in the Blues Brothers wit John Belushi, if you saw the movie. They actually sang their parts & toured as a band, so perhaps Dan ‘felt’ like he was legit singer. Folks don’t realize Harry Belafonte, standing next to him, was a singing performer in addition to being an actor & Civil Rights activist. It was him who came up with the idea for this project & sort of commissioned Lionel & Michael to co-write the song.
I remember hearing a story that the engineers kept hearing a "jingling" sound during the recording and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Turns out it was all of Cyndi's jewelry. 😂
it's true, it's shown in the video on "the making of" this video.
Me too I heard that story too
LOVED YOUR HIGH NOTE TRIBUTE TO CYNDI! GET IT!
This was the greatest show of humanity by any organized group of world class entertainers, ever 💪♥️🇺🇸
Love Prince, but he sure did miss a great opportunity to be a part of something bigger than himself.
Cyndi Lauper’s part gives me chills and starts the emotionality of this for me, then I can’t stop choking up for the rest of the song, and it really ramps up even more when Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder start taking it to a whole other level. For real.
Love this song so very much. We need to get back to being this kind of people, United for a common cause, far bigger than any one person. Seeing value in all human beings, loving each other like we’re meant to ♥️
Saving our own lives, couldn’t be a truer statement.
Well said! 💕
Ever hear of the Blues Brothers? Dan Aykroyd is for SURE a singer
So glad you finally smiled toward the end!! ❤ Thank you! This song made my eyes leak a little... this world could sure use that unity message today.
I love your breakdown of the song. Keep up your good work...
09:58 Dan Aykroyd loves music especially soul music. He did feature James Brown in 3 of his films (THE BLUES BROTHERS, DOCTOR DETROIT, and BLUES BROTHERS 2000). He also portrayed James Brown's manager in the film GET ON UP! Maybe he was invited to participate in this recording. Why not? BTW, Sheila E (Prince's protege) was there too. So, maybe there's an untold story that Prince might've sent Sheila in his place. IJS.
The best of R&B, Rock, Pop and Country at the time.
No Madonna, no Prince surprisingly.
@@orangewarm1 Prince didn't want to be in the same room with any of them. He called them idiots.
Also Dan Aykroyd was in the video Ghost busters so he knows music
Dan Akroyd walked in to the wrong studio and decided he liked what was happening so he stayed and sang. Lol
Please watch the making of We are the World, there you will know the background of the song, which was inspired by Bob Geldorf and the song, Do they know it's Christmas Time , I am a 56 year old man from Germany, and whenever I hear this song, I have tears running down my Cheeks, I see this song as the Word Hymn, we shall help all wich are in need.
Just uploaded it
I really dug your musical breakdown of this track, man. ✌ happy new year
The motivation for this was a horrible famine happening in East Africa, especially Ethiopia. One reason Michael Jackson was involved was he and Lionel Ritchie wrote the song. Speaking of Akroyd, he had quit doing SNL six years before this was recorded and had already made a name as one-half of the Blues Brothers. I've read elsewhere that Akroyd didn't check his ego at the door and wanted to be in the front row and do a highlighted solo. Instead he got the back row. The guy who was standing next to Dan Akroyd was Harry Belafonte who had the spark of this idea to raise money for food by doing a monster hit single and began pulling people in to this project.
Pulling everything together and making it happen was the guy out front conducting, Quincy Jones. He is a legend in the music industry as a musician, composer and arranger. He has won twenty-seven Grammy awards tying him with Alison Krauss as the most Grammy's by any living performer.
The Akroyd wanting to be in the front row thing was totally false , just more someone wanting to start stuff.
This was after the 1985 AMAs. You gotta remember that Purple Rain swept the awards. This was that night and Prince was feeling himself. Sheila E was like "well I'm going!" 😂 Prince regretted it and offered to pay a guitar solo down. Mike was like " nah we good! "
Prince wanted to have the studio to himself to sing. Such a shame he couldn't be a team player.
Prince said that he didn't want to be in the same room as these idiots. What an ego trip he was on.
Oh my GOD Bruuuuuuce !!!!!!!! i love him🙆♀️🙃😁 💪💪💪👑🌟🌹😍😍😍
Great musical analysis, esp how the song starts out with the softer voices and adds the stronger, meatier voices as it goes on.
3:37 "Diana Ross and Michael Jackson sound really, really good together." I had heard the song many times and I had always thought Diana's part was being sung by Michael--they sounded so much alike! It wasn't until I saw the video that I found out that it was Diana. 🙂
07:29 Nope. Not really. Prince did not want to take over the production of the song. He offered to record a guitar solo for the song in isolation. Lionel Richie was like "Well, we probably won't need that. But, what we can do is put you next to Michael". Prince then turned down the song. However, he offered an original song to the USA FOR AFRICA album. The song was called 4 THE TEARS OF YOUR EYES. The song is on that album. An acoustic version of that song is on Prince's THE HITS/THE B-SIDES compilation. Let's be honest, both Prince and MJ had egoes. However, their rivalry really wasn't as deep as many made it out to be. They were actually friends. Or, at least, cordial to each other. They both played mean pranks on each other. But, once again, they were actually friends.
I’m still trying to figure out if this was before or after Tina Turner Shot Randy Jackson in the leg!! 😂😂😂😂
She did lol
@@IntuitiveAnthony it was like 6 months prior that she shot him in the leg cuz he was dating her assistant and being too much like Ike. The whole making of this they never even glanced at each other.
According to Wikipedia, we are the world raised a 2020 equivalent $147 million dollars for humanitarian aid. The effort began during a horrific African famine in the mid 1980's.
Bruce Springsten 💙forever my favourite
You are the FIRST reactor that named everyone!! I watched a guy call Stevie Wonder, “Stevie Ray or Steve Harvey” 😳 and didn’t know anyone but MJ 🤦🏼♀️ I told him he needed to react to every genre for a year then redo that and for all that’s holy GO DO SOME RESEARCH and study! You see vocalist with work ethic that could sell out arenas without social media!!! Loved this reaction!!! I appreciate a well rounded musical vocabulary. I was 10 when this was released and I’ve been singing it every since!! 🙏❤️
Well, the drought in the '80's in Africa that caused widespread famine and deaths by starvation was no joke.
That's what this project was all about.
A lot of talented singers coming together for a beautiful song for the great famine in africa especially Ethiopia. Thanks to Harry Belefonte for this was his brainchild and Quincy put together singers. Next try out the one that started all this Band Aid " Do they know it's christmas". All european singers
blues brothers. dan aykroyd
come on, we need an actor in the group, someone from another kinda arts!... that's why Dan was there!
I like your observation about Prince. Prince is not on the same level as Michael Jackson at all. Im not sure why people attempt to even make a comparison. Michael was by far the superior artist and honestly a better human being. Prince was great, but should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Michael Jackson.
Cyndi, Bruce, and Stevie were the mvps
Continue was the mvp and Stevie and Ray but great song though
Michael and Lionel wrote this... Dan Ackroyd did more than just act, he was and still is a great singer and musician...never judge some one unless you know everything there is to know about them. Not just what you think you know. And that was harsh to say he was there just for an opportunity......
Infact all of them powerful
You paused it on MICHAEL!! NOOO!! Don't bash on Prince, he is one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived. Right up there with MJ
Being a great entertainer is not incompatible with being a total egomaniac asshole.
In case of Prince, it was public knowledge.
Awesome artist, but despicable individual.
Although Prince didn't take part in the "We Are The World" recording, he did contribute a song on this album called "4 the Tears in Your Eyes" . So, it's not like he was against the cause or didn't involve himself on the project at all.
remember dan was a blues brother
This is the Greatest song ever recorded
Stevie wonder and Bruce Springsteen... What a duet!!!
Dana rose voice is powerful along with bruse
That's what I asked myself. Why is Dan Aykroyd in this??? Lol
Bro u right, in my own eyes u can tell that micheal jackson was flirting with Dana rose, he might probably love Dina rose
React to Michael Jackson smooth criminal live Rome 1988
So clean?
the vocals. mj singing ability.
and i guess his jacket lol
You say that Michael can sing with anybody but he isn't even the most talented one of this group there are many that are more talented
Who do you think is the most talented with the most versatility?
@@IntuitiveAnthony musically Stevie wonder or Ray Charles vocally Steve Perry or Dionne Warwick
What did Africa ever do to you?You Hebrew Israelite?😒
They rounded us up and led us to the point of no return to be sold into slavery
I've seen many other reactions that are much better than this.
