Hebden Bridge Killed My Shock

- I feel like I should explain this video a little. It was filmed back in September the same day I had filmed my Hebden Bridge street riding video and I was totally and utterly exhausted...that's why it's a little different from normal, I didn't have the energy the remove my camera to talk to you like I normally do and is possibly the first video I've done where you never actually see my face!
As such I felt like it's not quite up to my usual quality and instead of uploading it like normal, I held onto it for a rainy day as I feel despite being a bit rushed, it's still better than no video...(apologies to Matt and Chris for relegating your appearances into a rainy day video!)
This month (November) I'm extremely busy building wheels for Inspired for their latest range and I also went on holiday with Jane, I simply haven't had the time to get out and film (I do have some cool videos planned though).
As for the content of this video, despite growing up in Hebden and living there for 20+ years I never really did much mountainbiking. Matt is one of my oldest friends who I grew up riding trials with and he's now big into MTB so invited me out to try some local trails.
Hebden is a very steep sided valley and also quite rocky...turns out it was the final straw for my rear shock which failed mid way through the ride (it has coped with a few months of Danny's riding then a full year of me abusing it including two trips to the Alps with no services!
Hebden has some great steep technical trails and I only got to test a sample...I'll be back with a working bike ASAP as these trails are my cup of tea :)
Thanks for watching!

Most people: "my shock is broken, best take it easy until I get home."
Ali: "YEET"
Hahahahaha that made me laugh man 😂😂😂😂
Go hard then go home!
I'm a hardtail now, cool?
Can u still still lock em out If they blow up? . I only use coil
@@beatbox9985 My understanding is that the lockout restricts the flow of oil inside the damper, separate from the coil or air spring. I guess it would depend what had failed.
You’ve come to Hebden twice recently and I missed you both times, it’s my local spot
This was filmed the same day I filmed my other Hebden video :P
He should do the blue pig run
Keep it up Ali Clarkson! Glad to see you at 100k subscribers!!
Thank you :)
@@Ali_Clarkson I know you probably won't see this, but you've been a bigger inspiration to me than Danny Macaskill! Your instructional videos have helped me grow so much. Cheers from Midwest America!
Mind Blown at 5:06! Did you all know Ali can climb rocks WITHOUT a bicycle? I picture him standing confused at the top like "someone throw me a bike so I can get down!"
love seeing you use your MTB! good to see you out shredding the trails!
Would love to have done more this year but living in a city and having the restrictions this year made it hard to get out as much as I wanted :(
Again with the best uploads from any biker I've seen in a long time
Thanks dude!!
A well saved quick video, it was worth the wait. The wind sock on the go pro worked really well. Just read the video bio and didn't realise you build wheels for inspired!
Shredding hard mate with no shock! Hahah epic stuff. Hebden looks glorious there, it's a swamp now. Sick to catch up, see ya for more shenanigans soon! There's lots to show ya 💪
One of greatest places on earth old Hebden
Awesome video Ali. Hebden is a sick place to ride 👍🤙

Great video, that's some crazy riding! makes me want to get a mountain bike again.

Great video! Helmet (only) camera worked great.
Love the last trail (Fox and Goose) the other ones look sick! Never ridden those before. Quick riding by everyone too 🤙
Congrats on the 100k man.
So you could say that hebden was shocking,,
( I'll get ma coat).
Sick as ever Ali ‼
I didn’t know you mountain biked! That’s rlly cool
Bought a bike from Hebden Bridge once, couldn't believe how hilly it was! Lovely looking place though!
Great video Ali. Seemed like nice guys you were riding with (without all the over the top "sick" every 2 seconds lol).

'Tis mint indeed, good sir!

@@dunneryak darkness doesn't last forever, and even if it did, just bang on the hope r4 lights and go shred 😊😊
Great vid! Keep it up
Those trails look sick shame you blew out your shock... Great video mate 👍 👌
Thanks Simon :)
Looks like fun trails! Especially when you don’t know what’s coming next ha
Ouch. I feel the pain
Many years ago I forgot the lockout on my rear shock and made a big jump.. Had to ride home and order a new without lockout
congo on 100k subs
Thank you :)
I love the way the trails just end at random on the street.
Classic hebden 😆
Nice riding !
Thanks Lukas :)
doing the coaster wheelie i was looking at your right hand to see if u were using the rear brake... classic American XD
coil goes brm brm
Good evening Ali, so why did your rear shock fail ?
Pretty place. Your buddy's accent is confusing though. 1M subscribers just around the corner no doubt.
Shocking day out 😂
Will you be visiting anywhere in Greater Manchester soon mate?
What bike do you use?
Can you make a Video how to start Trialbiking?
this video actually got me wondering, how much mtb trails do you ride compared to trial? cause you looked fast
Thank you, I think trials does give some good skills for the MTB (but also some bad ones)...last year I think I rode close to 60% trials and 40% MTB but this year has been harder to get out in the hills
He's bloody quick on a bike.
@@Ali_Clarkson Still got some dryish conditions on east coast & could do with some input on how easy a better rider could ride these lines, but has taken a lot of effort to get them riding good & how much easier they are to ride once are ridden in?
But know you could create a really good edit from what I have built?
@@Ali_Clarkson Which are the bad skills?
Beautiful countryside with nice single track and canopy to create a feeling of riding through tunnels. The only thing that reminds me of where I ride is the rocks and drops. Where I live in southern Utah, most of the mtb trails are on Federal Government owned lands. Who owns the land where you ride?
Thank you :)
In England most land is privately owned and could be government land, private individual or business. Most Scottish trails are on forestry business lands and often get permission but there are plenty of illegal trails too. Hebden is a little bit of a grey area as I don’t think they are “legal” as such but are well known to exist.
In Scotland we have the benefit of the “right to roam” which means we are allowed to explore freely on non-motorized (ie motorbikes are not allowed but Ebikes are so far ok), obviously of its private land and fenced off or blatantly someone’s garden then you can’t go there
15th yay !!
4:00 Go for some Trial stuff with the mtb!
Shock-ing video
Oh the stabilization is real in this one!
Is this the one near Grassington or not, because there are 2.
No, it's near Halifax
The one near Grassington, in North Yorkshire, is Hebden and the one near Halifax in West Yorkshire is Hebden Bridge. That all-important Bridge celebrated its 500th birthday a few years ago but it didn’t get a cake!
Thats why you need a trail hardtail! Seems like you trials fellas would be right at home.
Where’s the first trail dude I don’t recognise it at all ?
YYYYYYYYYessssssssssss! sometimes it's fun to fast! WWWWWWWaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Panaracer smoke/dart combo with cantis, not v-brakes.
Wanna go further back? Raleigh Yukon with Tioga Farmer Johns, Farmer Johns Nephew. Boi pace cranks, shit hubs, shit rims, shimanono STX RC was an upgrade!!! This is how you learn to ride, a bad workman blames his tools.
you’re assuming I’ve not been down the same path. This isn’t a competition but I too used to ride a fully rigid bike that was far too big for me with a 130mm stem, bars as narrow as my head and canti brakes, I did a years worth of trials competitions on that bike in the late 90s and also took it into the local woods and rattled my eyes loose. I wasn’t blaming my tools, I carried on riding when others would’ve gone home, I just stated the ride was harsh (which it was) due to the blown shock.
have you even seen ali's other videos? he's a professional rider ffs haha. get ya coat, lad.
This would look so good on my curved 4k display if it wasn't in 1080 only, but I guess the motion compression would kill it anyway
Gutted about your shock Ali get bushes changed while your at it they get a lot of hammer on oranges
Go the 2016 Reign 2 :D
It's a beast 🤘
@@RideBikes_Walkplaces I agree, the same bike, buzz
The tittle should have been "how to convert your full suspension bike to a hard tail"
What is rear shock? 😂
Santa Cruz… so is that a shock that you are riding pre-MacAskilled? I don't think MacAskilling is covered under most warranties.
Now try it on the Hex
Next up how to service a rearshock
Did you not learn to ride downhill on a hardtail, or rigid? Where did you get your skills? HALFORDS..
Dude, I ride a fully rigid bike 90% of the time, don’t try and lecture me. Riding a blown shock isn’t the same as riding a hardtail anyway
@@Ali_Clarkson there's always one, ali!
Why don't you sound like your neighbours?
My parents aren’t from that area so don’t have strong accents
@@Ali_Clarkson Where are they from?
My girlfriend just asked the same thing! It's because we're mongs and Ali isn't 😂
