Hi Sorin, good job you save the laptop....is not a coplete fix , but OEM wont you can't be able to repair don't worry.... but customer can still use the laptop and this your win... bye Francesco Timpano from florence Italy and thank for the mouse curson modification, noe is a pleasure follow you🤗🤗
You should really get into VRAM diagnosing, reballing and replacent :D The error that you got in the task manager doesn't mean that the GPU is dead but it can't be fully initialised and in most cases, it's just bad VRAM. I'm pretty sure that it can be repaired if the VRAM is replaced.
I mean the error itself doesn't mean anytime is faulty, corrupted VBIOS can cause this issue quite a lot not to mention other scenarios, but here I'm inclined to agree with Sorin, GPU throwing errors here is a very bad sign
@@TheXlen I've done my fair share of GPU repairs and by my experience, this is just a dead VRAM issue. If the data lines didn't receive any voltage, the core is probably good. Worth a try for someone who has RAM chip and can replace them.
Interesting comparison cause you cannot find a brand new unused kidney either 😅 All you can find are taken out from donor bodies. But yeah, probably finding a good kidney is easier than finding a working, good Nvidia chip 🙃
If you buy an used GPU + VRAMS you are gonna expend over $350, for $500 you can buy a working motherboard tested, so there is no point on replacing the chips with the work it will take if for only $150 more you can get a full working motherboard. A few months ago I bought the motherboard for my Nitro 5 that had a dead CPU and is working perfectly again, I also upgraded from an i5 to an i7 because it was only $30 more.
it's been proven on this channel many times, gaming laptops are junk designed to fail. Gaming laptops are made to separate large sums of money from suckers who have too much money. Better to buy a real PC for gaming if you must and use built in gfx for a laptop, less heat, less likelyhood of catastrophic failure. I'm still using i7 6th gen Toshiba Portege top-of-the-line all-options Z30T-C laptop from 2016 that I picked up in 2019 for $300. Works very well and boots W11 in 4 seconds.
How could manufacturers prevent the mosfet failure to deliver 19V to the GPU/VRAM Power rails? Using Zener Diode to ground would solve this issue? I'm asking because I'm thinking what kind of modifications I could do after the mosfets to prevent the high voltage to be delivered straight into the GPU/VRAM chips.
4:34 - Sorin, why you not test after removing the vram dr-mos? They can be short to ground, not always to 19v, meaning the vram got grounded, not burned..
Because why would the manufacturer sell you a GPU when they can sell you a new laptop. So long as people keep buying this garbage they'll keep making it. That's why the master race don't take anyone seriously who says they have a gaming laptop. We have more respect for console gamers.
Sorin, what about external GPU hooked to the laptop . Yeah you need adapters and another PSU but its a great compromise compared to gaiming on an integrated graphics card 😂
If a single ram chip is bad the gpu will not produce image but the nvidia chip is detected. Exist tests to find what memory chip is bad and you can replace it. The nvidia chip is not damaged only the memory is
The thing is that you never know before you replace the VRAM chip that's faulty and best case scenario you replace the whole set to avoid stability issues

You didn't have to look for a replacement chip... you could find a replacement motherboard that has the chips in order and just replace it with the one that's there now and the problem would be solved
Sorin, You have so much faulty nitro 5 Boards last half year. And not all gpu. But dead . Can the customer send it to you for spares. So you can make the world a better place recycling a little. and maybe you fix one .
I wonder what is it exactly that Acer did so wrong for so long with the Nitro lineup that they're so bad.. The amount of faulty nitro 5 i see everywhere is astonishing, even older models with gtx 1050 all the way to rtx 3060 they all have common issues like this.. It's crazy to think about it because their predator lineup even though it doesnt have the best reputation for being reliable, they dont seem to fail as often or as bad as the nitro laptops
was it the gpu or the vram? or does the intel uhd use the vram? i was just windering if the vram was replaced it would work. As i am pretty sure the sone will be gutted his laptop won't work as before, but of course it at least it works he'll just have to lower his specs on his gameplay
Uh, 7ohms on VMEM rail is bad. The only way to check if Nvidia chip is good is to remove either the chip or all memory chips and check for FBVDD resistance. But most of the time all are shorted.
Ryzen doesn't have a built in GPU, if you disable the rtx graphics then you basically have no image. I may be mistaken but I don't believe I am. Remove the GPU Driver Mosfets and remove the GPU power mosfets to disable it.
TI still sells those BQ24780 battery charger chips, so you don't have to use pulls. Mouser and Digikey both have them. Ha, Nvidia... I tried, they laughed. No way, won't sell to punks like us.

this is a moment to salute the laptop from the previous video that had a separate GPU board!!!

Its a real shame manufacturers stopped putting GPUs on a removable board. They'd much rather you purchase a whole new laptop I guess.
Because 80% customer wanna slim laptop with rtx 4090 full power that why.
I prefer thick laptop, with upgrade CPU and GPU.
Excellent work, Very educational video, Thanks!
Thanks, learning a lot , congrats from argentina
Good job mate 👍
Hi Sorin, great work! But im not confident the VRAM is dead. I think right approach is to replace the mosfet and check.
Great Job thank you
Can you try replacing the removed mosfet? Maybe the yellow triangle is due to absence of adequate power for ram?
Thanks good job.
Love your work

What are the chances that only Vram chip(s) died and the gpu lived in this case?
