One of the things I loved about this song is that the mountain people are willing to share their "treasure" but that just riles up the valley people. They don't want to share, they want it all.
Good one, Tasha. This is a keeper from back in the day when many people were protesting the Vietnam War. They used it in a movie from the early 70's called Billy Jack. You might like that one. It was a pretty low budget film, but it had a great message. Thanks for sharing this one.
This song touched me when it came out, I couldn't wait for it to come around on the radio again. I was ten and I totally understood the message, which is still so relevant today! This is still on my playlist.
This song really connected when it came out. Our involvement in Viet-Nam started about the time I entered Kindergarten. All my elementary and high school years were overshadowed by the prospect of being sent into the war. Saigon fell in April of 1975 3 months before I graduated. During those years our society was torn by strife, from the civil rights movement, anti-war protests and inter-generational friction. Riots and burning campuses, along with day to day body counts from the war and rivers of caskets returning home were the norm. This song captures the tragedy and fatigue of it all, most especially when it is driven by self-righteousness that twists the scriptures to justify all the hypocrisy. And in the fog of it all, our Savior weeps. Your reaction nails it Tasha! Thank you.
It's like America. There is a treasure in this land that should be shared, but every time we attempt to share, the "people of the valley" do not want that and want to keep it to themselves. Sound familiar? - Build a wall!
As others said, you should watch the movie Billy Jack. The song goes along with the towns people not liking the Freedom School on an Indian reservation. When Billy Jack's girlfriend is raped and assaulted, he gets vengeance. He is the one tin soldier. That movie was during my junior high days, made a huge impression on me.
Hi. I should have read your comment first b4 i commented cause i cant believe i 4got about the assaut on BJ girlfriend damn its been a long time.anyway your comment short and to the point..I'm to long winded😮✌
This is a great story song with a deep message. If you don't listen to the words, it will just go over your head. We need this to be played on all radio stations again! I remember when it came out. The people in the valley didn't want to share anything. So they killed for it. That part of the song always made me feel sad.😢 As others have said it's in the movies about Billy Jack. I think they made 3 or 4 movies in the series. I think it was a true story if l remember correctly.
Hi, if you're wondering who the one tin soldier is...in the movie Billy Jack was a quiet man who loved horses & nature & the sweet innocent American native Indian children and white/black homeless/abandoned children who went to this school/commune that his woman taught at..of course the folks in the nearby town were mostly prejudice & cruel towards these outcasts but mostly the native children & our hero Billy Jack protected them..at the end when the song plays the bad cops come and take Billy Jack to jail for fighting the currupt leaders of the town( no worries cause there's another movie the return of Billy Jack😅) its a badly dated low grade movie but as a young teenager i loved it. Such a great message although it would be nice if we all learned kungfu or had a hero to fight for us..anyway..its a great scene where the kids line up the road & all stand.. fist in air ..in protest of the wrong doing while their 'one tin soldier' rides away. I imagine for the song alone ..without the movie ..the one tin soldier is a representative of a theological 'witness'. So happy you listened to this song i still cry. Thank You.✌
I don’t remember the cartoon, just the song, which everyone loved. And now the wars are fought in the name of open greed and corruption. Same old story, different ideology, but the same results.
The irony in the song is crazy The mountain people were kind generous people who sent a message to the valley saying with our brothers we will share all the secrets of our mountain all the richest buried there The valley people were greedy and wanted it all so they murdered all the mountain people only to find that the secrets of their mountain and the riches that were buried there were the words peace on earth which they were willing to share with the valley people but instead were murdered, so much for peace on Earth. Then the religious aspect go ahead and hate your neighbor go ahead and cheat a friend do it in the name of heaven You can justify it in the end. Great great song!
This song is about the Kingdom of GOD and that Soldier is Jesus Christ you can't justify it you can beg for forgiveness but he did leave on that horse and left them standing there they will get exactly what they deserve.
Historically, there have been more people killed "in the name of god" (whatever god they worship) than for any other reason... bar n I none. Not gold, oil, food or water, but religion.
I grew up in the time this was written. We were so close to unifying people and then Political Correctness came along and divided everyone again. Very sad.

This was the theme song to the movie Billy Jack. Love the song and the movie.

I'm glad you reacted to the animated video; it's a really classic example of its time.
♥ The message is just as relevant today as it was in the 60s and 70s.

We had Watergate also.

This song was used as the theme song to the movie "Billy Jack" 1971. Definitely worth watching.
This song makes you see all the places your heart has been hard, and you've hurt someone you love.
This came out when I was 10 or 11, and I did not realize how deep and relevant it was. It is definitely just as relevant now.
Back when I was in school, every Remembrance Day (Nov 11th) they would play this song, along with the poem In Flanders Fields.
This band is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
This was the theme to Billy Jack. I started crying in theater.
Billy Jack was one of Elvis's favorite movies , they showed it on TV at least once a year in NW Arkansas

And a great message in another Canadian song from (4 years before), is the song UNIVERSAL SOLDIER - Buffy Sainte-Marie wrote.
Coven "One Tin Soldier"
I sang this every summer at camp

How appropriate for today 😏
I don’t remember the cartoon, just the song, which everyone loved.

I taught this to my kids and grandkids
A timeless message in this so g.
Awesome review
Such a wise human you are!!!
One of the best songs of the last 190,000 years, eh?
Tasha , you really should watch the movie "Billy Jack " it gives a really deep meaning to this song. You can thank me later !!!
I believe you got that backwards. It’s the song title that’s One Tin Soldier.
The irony in the song is crazy The mountain people were kind generous people who sent a message to the valley saying with our brothers we will share all the secrets of our mountain all the richest buried there The valley people were greedy and wanted it all so they murdered all the mountain people only to find that the secrets of their mountain and the riches that were buried there were the words peace on earth which they were willing to share with the valley people but instead were murdered, so much for peace on Earth. the mountain people are the soux indians, and the valley people are the white people
Check out Steve Holy - "Fine and Shiny Pearl"
Tell you man, I got a little choked up hearing this, thinking about Gaza and Ukraine. It's the 21st Century. When is the hate and killing gonna stop?
You really should watch Billy Jack. A great song from an awesome movie.
It's ok, you can cry. We all have
There are a bunch of people still looking for that treasure that is already there written in the Bible Scriptures.
is the other way around honey !
The soundtrack to the seditious and treasonous riot of Jan 6th. "Lest we forget!
This song is about the Kingdom of GOD and that Soldier is Jesus Christ you can't justify it you can beg for forgiveness but he did leave on that horse and left them standing there they will get exactly what they deserve.
Think of this Tasha, every person killed in the name of God or gods is actually a human sacrifice to that God..
Historically, there have been more people killed "in the name of god" (whatever god they worship) than for any other reason... bar n I none. Not gold, oil, food or water, but religion.

Um, irony alert.
@@user-gt2uf8cq9y Indeed. Political correctness roughly translates to treating others with respect.
Too slow... Coven's version the known version and way way better
