At the 40 minute mark they talk about Max's performance as Josh. I agree. The only child performance that compares in my mind, and wins, is River Phoenix in Stand By Me and he was much older. Sensational by Max.
y'all gotta stop goin to craig for whats popular, man is not online at all. There are literal chess streamers, grandmasters who hold tournaments for other streamers. Please, Craig is kind but he is actually 45 in spirit. go to Jomi for this stuff lmfao
One of my favorite movies !!! As an avid chess player since I was 5 I can relate. Such an amazing movie. My guy from little giants played a great role too 😂
As a kid me and my cousin are playing basketball one on one. First to 7. Im up 6-0. He says I’ll give you a draw right now. I lost. I’ll never forget this movie
About the Kobe Mamba Mentality topic, in his interview with Lewis Howes he talks about how when he was starting out in basketball he was terrible. His dad told him one day “It doesn’t matter if you score 0 points or 60, I’m going to love you either way.” So it wasn’t like Kobe’s dad was pressuring him to be a great player. But Kobe wanted that for himself. Josh realized he had the ability to possibly be one of, if not the, greatest chess players of all time, but he chose to be a healthy, well-rounded person over that.
You guys forgot to go over the scene when Jonathan’s teacher approaches Bruce at the National Chess Championship & says “It’s unsettling isn’t it? When you realize there are only so many things you can teach a child, and finally they are who they are. Good luck”….. Thoughts?
@@avisco01 huh. i mean i think it works both ways. watched as a kid and i loved it but you watch as an adult and get different things from it. thats part of what makes it great
As a huge jiu-jitsu fan I'm so mad that Bill doesnt make a bigger deal of Josh being the FIRST BLACK BELT under the GOAT Marcelo Garcia, who himself was a BJJ protoge
At 55 minutes Bill asks why the king just doesn't chase down the pawn. The problem is that the black king prevents it from getting close and white can't go around in time.
Always love when Van hops on my favorite pod 🙌 I do gotta say though, I don't know how y'all keep bringing up that the real Bobby Fischer did some things that has aged terribly without once giving any detail into how or why. Can I get a single example please? 🙏 Wayy too much assumption that we all know about a chess player from the Wide World of Sports era.
Speaking of sports, Josh Waitzkin (the young man portrayed in Searching) went on from chess to become the world champion in Tai Chi Chuan Push Hands. He talks about his experience in a great book called 'The Art of Learning.'

Searching for Bobby Fischer and Bronx Tale are so rewatchable.
In the 90s I had a VHS with this, quiz show and Shawshank recorded off HBO free weekends. Best sick day mixtape.

We got Charles IN the studio and sitting in CR's seat! (I mean, we needed a Wayne Jenkins impersonation as an initiation lmao) Great to see.
Chess had a MASSIVE resurgence due to the pandemic, and there are all kinds of streamers and youtubers doing amazing content.
Hikaru, Gotham and GingerGM pulled me through the pandemic
