  • First impressions of this machine were, "Its a looker" It certainly talks the talk, but will it walk the walk? A few days collecting and hauling bales has helped me form an opinion that may have even surprised me a bit.

Good evening Mr. P. I think that was a very fair and honest review I'm sure most of the niggles could be sorted not sure I like the buddy seat just being that steering wheel a different no no. But in the end it is what you are comfortable with, the cost, after sales service and of course what Mrs. P. thinks. Keep well and stay safe.

Nice one Ian! I thought that was a fair review! Some of the quirks you just get used to the rocky ride is due to travelling with the loader in the air, I always drive with it down apart from coming in and out of gateways our 77 loader tractor is the same anyway cheers for the review it's nice to see what non massey people think 👍

another great vid Ian, and I would say a very fair review. I do like the Massey (and the colour matches your trailer) but I've just looked back at two vids you did with the T5 and I must say that is a lovely machine, also you seemed very much at home in the T5 even with the new electronics lol, and wow it is so quiet in the T5. but at the end of the day you are the man parting with the cash and you know what is needed for your farm and the future. one thing I do know it's a difficult choice you have to make and of course what sort of deal they can offer you. brilliant vids keep em coming👍

You actually did better with it than I thought you would. If you did go through with a new tractor it would be interesting to see a post sale price comparison. It just wouldn't be fair on anyone to make that public knowledge beforehand. My feeling is that the MF is going to be the dearest package of the lot, but I'm probably wrong. Thanks for sharing what you can of the buying process.

A very fair assessment that young man. Remember, when you buy any product there are niggly things that could eventually lead to irritation. And as such the niggles come with a cost.
Are you just looking at the Case, New Holland and Massey Ferguson or will you get a John Deere 6120m to compare?
I drove a Fendt a few times and that was like canoeing down a river. I hated it.
    Top video squire!

Good unbiased review of the tractor. A few little niggles which im sure could be rectified. Be good to have a Chandlers engineer with you for a couple of hours to go through the machine and set iit up to your requirements. When I worked on Masseys, I would always go through the basics of a tractor with the operator, and then after a few days go back and address any queries they may have. Most of the quality brands have good products, so sure your decision will come down to price, dealership and any freebies they want to throw at you. Sponsored by (insert dealership name here) decals on the bonnet might even get you a better deal.

You should be the man to give reviews from all the tractor companies. It didn't feel overwhelming positive or negative. It just felt honest. Fair play it didn't feel honest for a publication. It felt honest for the man that has to use it. If a tractor company believes in their tractor they should let you review it.

Great video. Your right with the steering wheel you spend a lot of time using it.. you say regularly doing 44 /45 kph but your not interested in a 50 k box , now i know its more money and it has to be justified but that shows that if you did have a 50 k box you'd probably happily do 46 or 48. Kph where you could. Happy tractor hunting

Hi Ian, re loading of trailer. I think you did right by keeping the weight forward, ie, nearer the tractor. Loading the top bales at the rear of the trailer, would only increase the "pendulum effect" and make the side to side yawing even worse. I did some class 1 work years ago and with a wagon and drag, loaded out of Belgium back to the UK with a well known, Swedish furniture brand. Like an idiot, I loaded the trailer first and then the wagon. Big mistake. The ride back to the UK was horrendous with the side to side yawing of the trailer. Lesson learned for sure, load the tractor first and keep the trailer as light as possible.

... think I got from this was that the outside, the working end of things including the cab ride and controls got higher rankings and the down sides were the creature comforts inside the cab .... would imagine the waking up of the hydraulics, when it is sleeping is not putting load on the engine and not burning more fuel .... had to wonder when you pointed out the vents, (AC is cold and cold sinks, hot rises so you would have a hot head in the winter) how would the defrost work, from the top vents would that be enough to get the glass all the down past the dash clear .... like how pointed out the getting used to things ..... thxx for the share FP .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...

Hello Farmer P 😊..... The most important decision has been made (Biskit likes her seat). That is the main hurdle sorted. The rest is up to you. Personally, I think you had less gripes about the T5. One thing is certain, judging from the comments... THE STEERING WHEEL MUST GO 😀!!!!
There was a comment remarking on the possibility of a cow with it's head stuck. See from 9.30. She looks comfortable enough. Probably being quizzy with you in the tractor. They are quizzy beasts, aren't they. I think they suffer from FOMO 😂🐂

Any the 3 you are testing are all quality tractors it will come down to price and preference and back up but that case with that electrocommand gear box is not a good job horrible gear box but case do the same gearbox as the dynamic command I think it's called active 8.

Hi Ian, If the interior set up of the Massey seems a but to over the top remember there are 3 levels of cab setups you can get. Essential (one arm rest with the loader joystick and the gear leave is then placed on the side panel left hand side of the 2 manual spools you have in that model) Then you have Efficient (Which i believe is the current model you are demoing) then Exclusive (all bells and whistles from a touch screen monitor with GPS fitted to full electric Spools and fully kitted out armrest) Each cab level can be equipped with certain things you would want. for example you could have the exclusive model with a screen and manual spools or electric depending on your requirements. All i will say is DO NOT be intimidated by Tech! most Tech that is fitted to tractors now are actually to Aid the Operators to get the best out of there machines! How ever Old School is still the Right School! Love the vids and i hope you are well!
    Aaron =)

However I still think you should also have a look at Valtra, not the A series with the 3 cyl engines but perhaps the G would be perfect for you.
Or are Valtra to expensive in the UK or is it an issue with no dealers within range?
Our neighbour have always used Ford and now New Holland and is well pleased with those. He runs 2 t7s for manure and baling in his company and a old 5610 ford in the woods on the home farm.

Hi Ian, You do have a list of Questions to go through with the dealer, plus take onboard the radiator overheat problem as you didn't do any heavy field work.
I think some time with the operators manual would answer more that someone running through a list of items.
I do wonder about designers, do they ever consult the end users. Or have the ever worked machine let alone tried to service or repair one. Saw a video of a filter change on a John Deere and it took for ever just to get at it. Plus the cost was John Expensive.
As you say the biggest question is the price, then work back from that. Your brain must be doing summersaults with all the gadgets and info.
    Take care.

Is there anything you can do cut out redirect pipes or what ever to make seeing the tow hitch easier Ian. From listening to your review that was the only real black mark that stood out everything else could be changed one way or another. In the old days of the Ford 7000 it was lift arms right up yank on lever behind seat then hang out the back window looking for the eye on the trailer, implements what ever lift and almost hope you were In the right place and listen for the hollow thud 👍

I would say the Case will be a better deal for you because they will want to keep your custom but would guess the New Holland is the most expensive of the 3. Be intresting to see how they pan out After you have made your decision 👌

Why don't you try a valtra ? Absolutely love mine, went from massey to valtra purely because of Agcos route 66.
