Heisenberg is all of us who can't stop thinking about Chris punching boulders
Best part is that, for him to even know about that, Chris and/or Sheva must've told the story to others and the tale of Chris's boulder punching became a meme in the RE universe as well.

Human-on-geology violence, weak points that glowed bright enough to ruin your vision or correct it if you got close enough to the TV, an interesting female counterpart with real potential discarded like a tissue for REEEEeasons, Aryan neo/nightcrawler but cooler, precious stone mining with bullets, a turret sequence, a somehow LESS violent virtual journey through sub-saharan Africa,.... Man, RE5 had it all.
Everytime he's on-screen I'm just staring at his biceps with a puzzled look on my face.

@@Goomyx1492 If you didn't notice, Ethan was gonna die when he was talking to Eveline, his body was starting to lose form and still was in the duke's carriage. Then out of sheer willpower, kept himself alive long enough to save his daughter from Miranda. He wasn't entirely a mold creature like Jack Baker, or Lady Dimitrescu, his body was still quite human... human enough to physically make a child despite being made of flesh goop. If you guys are gonna tell me that he wasn't powering through missing a heart using what anger and determination he had left... ya'll are on something else.

Lots of tiny hints and foreshadowing across both games. It really is a masterfully executed twist.
I love how Chris and his crew completely outguns Ethan, really shows how impressive it is that Ethan lasted as long as he did in the Village.
Kind of has me imagining an alternate scenario where Chris and his team deal with the Four Lords in Ethan's place.

Considering Ethan was a mold man after the start of RE7, not really. He sustained numerous life threatening injuries. Lost his foot, his hand a few times then even his heart. When you think about it he was actually really reckless. Also not that impressive considering he died after the start of 7 and only "survived" because Eve probably put in the order lol

It's amazing how Capcom turned a character from “That RE7 protagonist is pretty emotionless and basic.” to “HOLY SHIT, THEY KILLED ETHAN!”
exactly LOL I went in being like, ugh, really, a game about the absolute nobody Ethan Winters, woohoo. To being like, ETHAN NOOOOOOOO
He went from copy and paste hero man to the world's best, moldy father in just 2 games.
I think it’s how relatable his situation was and how they gave him cheesy one-liner dad jokes. Dude just wanted a happily-ever-after with his family, and was understandably pissed the entire game.
Then the one-liners had so many mixed reactions in chat lol some people were like “TALK THAT SHIT, MY GUY,” and others were like “lmao really,” but the fact that his lines evoked such reactions was a testament to the personality they gave him, and we wound up caring for this angry dad quite a bit towards the end.
@@ByrneBaby Also, in RE7, he was clueless about his wife's disappearence. So when the same thing happened with his daughter in RE8, he was so done with all of it by the time he's facing Heisenberg, he's all sarcastic and only focused on his daughter. Three years of "running away" from the Dulvey incident and even then he was still left in the dark. At that point, he's not even the bridge between the players and the game anymore. He's the embodiment of the player who has no idea what happened at all at first.
I thought Mia was more bland than Ethan.
Congrats for Max appearing as a villain in RE8.

There is no greater line of dialogue ever spoken in a game than "Boulder punching asshole".

This weirdly contextualizes the whole "oh shit jack he aint eating it" bit from the start of 7, like we all thought she was crazy and thought normal people liked eating entrails but no, at that point in time ethan is 100% a mould zombie which is why spidermom is so surprised he's still acting like a human
Also, the surprised look on the cop when he saw Ethan up close (after Jack jammed a knife on his face) but we couldn't really see it because it's on first person view through Ethan's perspective.
No wonder the Bakers freaked out and tried to kill Ethan when he didn't respond to being molded the same as everyone else. And no wonder Jack kept trying to convince Ethan throughout all of RE7 how "awesome" being molded is. I think Jack was trying to force Ethan to mutate.
Now my question is; Why didn't Ethan just turn into a molded\crazy? What made him special?
@@CanadianYeti69 What made him special? He died and the mold brought him back to life but his mental state and willpower remain unchanged because of Eveline's weaken state.
Eveline at that point was already too old and too weak so he couldn't break Ethan's mind in her old cripple state. That's why she always there whenever Ethan (You) roamed the house.

Ethan turned from one of the most average normal Resident Evil Protagonist to one of the most unique and badass ones in the entire franchise with this one twist.

It wasn't much of a twist more like an copout, like when eve reveals it they show jack dragging alive Ethan by the looks of it at what point did he die then? I think it was not planned that Ethan died in the re7 but when they made re8 they switched it imo.
@@ReaperOfLuigi I mean at the beginning of RE7, Ethan gets stabbed, hand cut off, and head stomped on by Jack, so after that when he kinda wakes up and sees Jack dragging him is when he was "revived" by the mold and became mold. That's why the Baker family had that whole dinner sequence with Ethan was because he became like them but Ethan kept his sanity unlike them.

What Ethan went through to protect his daughter is something Max can totally understand now that he is also a dad. You can see it in his eyes at the end when Ethan sacrificed himself that Ethan earned Max's respect as a Resident Evil character & not some nobody anymore.

It's actually a much more obvious motif than what you're thinking. Crows, Witch that disguises herself as an old crone throughout the story, the fairytale aesthetic, and a child "put to sleep" until the witches' evil spell is broken. She's a conflation of various old fairytale witches, mostly Maleficent and the Wicked Queen of Snow White.

Hard to say who has the crazier feats between him and Leon. Game wise Chris has the strength while leon has the speed. With that said the movie scene where Leon catches Claire and a Tyrant from a stio with one leg and one arm with Curtis Tyrant snatching Claires leg with a tentacle after a 30 foot dead fall while everything is collapsing and makes an aimed shot to the shoulder eyeball is just like damn leon why they even need BOW's when they could just clone you because that is some superhuman nonsense.

I’d put this up there with RE4 in terms of how much I enjoyed this game. They don’t try and be super edgy or anything, and they actually had the guts to kill a protagonist in a meaningful way

I'm not really sold on Ethan's death being 'meaningful'. When he initially 'died' with Miranda yeah sure he died trying to save his daughter, but actually dying the second time from the explosion which he didn't have to die from was pretty meaningless no? He essentially had to die so that they could set up Rosemary's character at the end.
@@MrGonq He was already disintegrating. Assuming he was able to hold it together for a little while, the alternative to sacrificing himself was literally crumbling into dust at some point in front of his daughter and wife.

This twist is so weird because it is effective ... but I'd already assumed that Ethan was still infected because A -Why else would anyone care about stealing his kid? B - We watch him literally stick his severed hand back on in the castle. The only explanation is that he's a mold zombie like the Bakers. The notes in RE7 stated that the first two stages are regenerative powers and hallucinations. Eveline probably just died before Ethan could be mind controlled too
to be fair, we assumed that he was infected, but not dead and literally made of mould. he wasn’t like the bakers and mia in that respect, he was more akin to one of the moulded
I assumed he was still infected after he reattached his hand. Not that he was a complete moldy boy.
And yeah, Eve died before she could take full control. It wasn't until near the end of 7 when he starts seeing hallucinations which meant she was close to doing it. She probably got weaker as she aged rapidly which is probably why it was taking her so long since he was also a fresh convert. Those shots that needed to be administered not only prevented rapid aging but it probably also kept her power fresh and up to par. At least thats what I think.

They make it clear that Ethan is some kind of special case. I’d like to think that if Eveline _could’ve_ killed him through her mold powers, she would’ve. Perhaps he became some kind of new host, or had some kind of immunity to the control aspect of the mold?

I remember there was a blackout and when Zoe search for her parents Marguerite was infected within minutes as well as Jack after he fought off his wife.
So when Mia said that Ethan was special, I guess what she meant was that he was the only Molded who had free will.
A tip for anyone that doesn't know, Any weapon part that increases the ammo capacity will completely fill your gun for you. You can use it as free ammo. So instead of combining as soon as you get it, save for when you need more ammo or a instant reload. Same goes weapon capacity from the duke. It refills ammo in your weapons.
So basically resi 4/5 strats lol
@@theninja2k14 yup although the weapon parts are useful since it can be an emergency ammo/instant reload.
EX: You use your magnum and run out of ammo. Save the ammo capacity part and use it during a boss fight to instant reload it while increasing the amount of ammo it holds and without having to do the reload animation for it.
So this is something Max talked about in Stream after finishing the game and I wanted to comment: After playing RE8, I feel like the Capcom redemption arc is complete. It's no longer about redemption, it's about sustaining this quality because at this point I'm honestly hyped for anything Capcom puts out. Like I have this idea in my head that Capcom = Quality. And that's great. I hope they don't dissapoint too much going forward.
Let's hope the actually bring back Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers and Mega Man Legends. Because they've been doing such a great job that it be a great way to really mend ties with the fanbases of those games that were really handled badly

RE7 was a great psychological thriller but RE8 was an insane blast; the Chris section with the music was epic. what a fun game.
@@CaptainKaz44 RE8 is a lot more replayable in my opinion as well. Compared to re7. Re7 has great set pieces, until the boat. But it's slower and methodical. So just isn't as fun as re8. Again, IMO.

I had the same reaction. Just finished the game today, and as soon as I saw Chris step out of his car, I got chills and realized you get to play as him. The ending in this game is fucking fantastic
The factory was creepy and cool. I wouldn't say it "dragged on" at all, to whomever said that. The enemies were fun to fight and I honestly just didn't want the game to end. For me, the best moments of RE are going back and finding loot, whatever that is, and RE8 delivered a LOT more than I expected.
I thnk the factory needed to be on the long side after how short parts 2 and 3 were. Honestly I think everything fit together very well.

I feel like each section should've went on for the same length. The dollhouse is one of the most disappointing areas in the game because of its length and how easy the boss fight was.

I love that they made Chris look more like his older/original model mixed with the RE7 model. He also shows quite a bit of survivors remorse and regret in past actions/inaction.
IMO, Chris is one of the best characters that really hasn't been used to his full potential. What's worse is that most fans won't give him a fair shake after RE5

I'm so glad someone else actually noticed this. This whole game is about family, and Ethan Winters proves to be, as the game politely calls him, the Best Dad in the Universe...because he's willing to go through ALL OF THIS just to get his daughter back.
Meanwhile, Miranda's "family" is made up of angry monsters who would rather destroy themselves than work together, forced into their positions by control and fear.

Holy shit, what a great story. I never expected this quality of story from a RE game. But Jesus Christ, all of this stuff made this game one of my favorite Resident Evil, if not the best.
Hm I mean RE1, RE2, and RE5 were quite up there but it is one that is just quite filled with plot twists and unanswered questions similar to RE2 and parts of RE5.
I think the plot twist is kind of bad. Or maybe just the way it was executed. I don’t it just feels off to me.

I can understand the pacing would be off if let's say Chris's section would be the last part to the ending instead of Ethan or Miranda ripping his heart off would be the end and roll credits but none of that happened and nothing was really rushed or dragged even so I don't get how the pacing was off when it was really tight

Well, them being in that position is mostly Mia's fault anyway. If she just decided to have a normal life instead of being a Umbrella lackie then her, Ethan and Rosemary could have had their normal lives.
Honestly i am SO shocked that Mia was put under PROTECTION and trained instead of a Jail cell or executed for her part in what happened to the bakers and Eveline. Maybe because her poor husband begged for it and even then after all the crying and whining cause Chris couldn't fix all her mistakes, she still wasn't even completely honest with Ethan.
I have never seen someone so calmly yet chaotically throw everything he has in a final fight. Max is really just calmly yet panic scrolling through his inventory..

Dare I say it, Resident Evil Village has the most tragic story in all of the mainline RE games. I'd say its a close one to the story of Lisa Trevor and her family in RE1 Remake. Goddamn.

I actually thought Ethan being dead was already established at RE7, with the whole him putting himself back together like a lego. Still a pretty cool reveal.
I mean, that didn't really prove anything other than him being able to regenerate (but that's typical RE mechanics)

Ethan is the why Rose is the perfect vessel for the mold. Ethan never changed attitude unlike Mia when Eveline is taking over. He just gained regenerative abilities. He has such strong will that the mold never corrupted him to the point that he (and everyone of us) never realized that he has been infected. Now, imagine Rose having Miranda-level powers, too op. RE9 is gonna be wild.
ethan's will of saving his family is so powerful that even the mold couldn't corrupt him.

Just realized the similarities between Heisenberg Soldats and Umbrella's Tyrants. They both share a similar weak spot, which is the heart. Pretty nice touch on Capcom's part, making the Soldats like Heisenberg's own version of the Tyrants.
And they have the one hand thats larger than the other from tyrants as well

I realized when lady D says "you taste a little stale" and saw the story twist, that sentence means a whole different thing now.
honestly, Ethan and Mia became some of my favorite characters in the franchise, and im kinda sad that their story is kinda done, though im excited to see where they take Rose's story.

RE7 had DLC because it didn't have to rely on previous versions.
The same can potentially be said about RE8. Don't hold your breath though.

The final segments of this game were total beast mode. Loved it. Reminded me of Titanfall 2's final chapters with the power of awesomeness at your fingertips
The drill guys and propeller man and Heisenberg himself remind me of that really weird japanese horror movie series Tetsuo. The first movie was literally about a man who slowly started to turn into machine, body parts turning into drills and crap.
What a game! honestly there's not a lot of games I'm completely on the bandwagon for and max has made this series one of them! Amazing play through and absolutely loved the chats and max's reactions! Brilliant! RE9 and RE4 remakes couldn't come sooner 💚

I am SO thrilled to see you absolutely love the game at the end! I think RE8 deserves a lot of love and credit for many of it's decisions. I absolutely feel it has one of the strongest final acts of the series, esp with how fun the Heisenburg fight into the Mother Miranda fight was. Compared to most final Bosses, Miranda is also a top fav of mine. Lot of unique attacks, visually stunning and has a much more impacting climax to it all. Tho it did break tradition of having a last min super gun given to you to finish off the Boss.
Just speaking for myself, I also feel RE8 broke a big RE cliche of the final level/zone being letdown and annoy or drag on for too long. RE4, RE5 and RE7 deg had those, while the Factory I felt was great and stayed just long enough.
One difference I have with Max here is that I has hooked and loving the game from start and honestly never had major annoyances or problems with the game. From beginning to end I had a big grin on my face (and in some cases horrified face with Beneviento and some early tension).
Most will disagree or scoff, but RE8 is 3rd favorite in the franchise. Loved the story, love the theme and aesthetics, loved the enemies and characters and I loved the pacing and level design.
I think it took me almost a month to finally watch all episodes of this series. Great plays, Max!

Max and anyone who cares about the lore and story of this game, I don't know if you did, but you should really read the Baker Incident Report in the optional files. It adds quite a bit to the lore, including the fate of Zoe from RE7, how Chris and the Hound Wolves are now a rogue unit and likely going against the BSAA, and explains a bit on how Mia got off without much consequence even though she was working with a bioterrorist organization.
Reminder that Chris made Ethan and Mia move from America to one car ride over from the evil village where Miranda was.

Wow...just wow. That was an insane final act. Now if only Chris turned into a werewolf like I thought would happen. The advertising in one of the trailers was so damn deceptive. I was expecting it too and it never happened. Guess it was more symbolic than anything. Either way, this game had probably the most gripping story out of any RE game. And this is coming from someone who never played one in his entire life too. This definitely lived up to the hype. Can't wait to see what comes next when RE9 comes to life.

An understated highlight of this game is that Chris's allies in his playable section all make it out alive, giving them room to be further developed instead of each getting five minutes of characterization and then dying for cheap tragedy.

I kinda expected the plot twist with Mia. But I did not expect Ethan getting his heart ripped out, and the game switched to Chris. Legit thought that he died and we finished the game as Chris, but when that soundtrack kicked up shit got real and I was pumped. That is what I call a finale.
I played on normal but kept ALL of the treasures I ever collected and never sold anything to the merchant or upgraded my weapons except for ammo capacity, since you can upgrade ammo on an empty weapon and get a free handful/dozen of bullets for that weapon. Made my game surprisingly challenging, and gave it the hardcore feel without actually picking hardcore mode. For me, this made the lycan part at the beginning much more tolerable, and I only failed a handful of times before passing, whereas the game began to get incrementally harder the closer I got to the end. I recommend this playthru style for those looking for an alternate hardcore feel for a new playthrough perhaps!
PS: For an even more extreme challenge, consider not only not selling a single treasure, but also not utilizing the cooking system at all, or simply discard your collected meats once obtained! You COULD alternately decide to sell ONLY your meats to the merchant for a little extra cash on hand, to make a bit easier as well. I can't even imagine trying to do actual hardcore mode along with avoiding all the upgrades as well tho! If anyone tries this way they should let me know what it was like!

One of the most fantastic things about this game is the horror theming behind the Four Lords of the Village.

Heisenberg = Steampunk Van Helsing moonlighting as Doctor Frankenstein
I love all these classic horror monster references and they really made these villains stand out.

Finally beating RE7 before playing this was the BEST choice I made - it made this game so much better seeing the full picture. It really felt like seeing Leon going from Police Newbie to Roundhouse Kicking Badass. Watching Ethan going from running scared to making quips in the middle of fights... especially that moment he stares Heisenberg down while letting go of his arm... oh that got me. Then I got feels in the end because the actors, the twist, the directing... really knocked it out of the park. I have to say... this might be my favorite Resident Evil game. I'm so glad Max fully turned around on it too.
