I bought an EGO Pro 42" this spring when my 25 yr old MTD Yard Machine 38" needed its 2nd engine. I need to mow about .4 acre. I doubt that it would do 1.5 acres, but it works for me. It's a little pricey, but I wnted to try an electric. I have about 17 hrs of use on it and I like it. It may not be for everyone, but I don't miss the gas mower.
I don't have one yet but I do use the EGO Weed Whacker and it is the best I have ever used. Simple, simple, simple, and CONVENIENT! No mess with line, self loads, self administering line, no stopping until I'm done and STILL have battery power left over to go another round. So, I like EGO and may just finish off the collection with a riding lawn mower. I have about an acre so it should be fine.
Throwing inward would've added to battery drain due to double cutting. I always do to passes throwing inward and then switch to throwing outwards 😁 I also noticed a 25% overlap 🤔 Yup, wet grass is a contributing factor for runtime, hills, rider weight, lights, phone charging(negligible 😂)........ Good review 😉
I mow my 1/3 acre lot every other day with a Worx Landroid. It parks itself at the end of a session, usually 3.5 hours and charges itself between sessions. It runs on a single 20v 8 ah battery that costs $140. Mower was $500 and came with 4ah battery. It was in the 90s for a few days and I never broke a sweat. It takes up the size of a suitcase when storing over winter.
@@lopincolThe Toro also starts at $6500!😂 Ego sells an electric zero-turn with a 52” fabricated deck for $6999 which is a better comparison to the Toro. Both seems to be very well built quality machines from my point of view.
Does your mower “lunge” in the direction of travel as you apply the breaks? I keep bumping into things and I have opened up a service claim with ego about this.
Thank you for this review. I have an EGO 21" push mower for doing the trim work after mowing with the John Deere. That push mower is 6 years old now and still works great. We added a weed eater, pole saw, and 16" chainsaw to our EGO collection since getting the push mower.
With some gas mower I have hit things and broken the spindle that hold the blades from the deck. So does this mower have spindles or is the blade connected to the brushless motor. And if so wonder what it would cost to replace it.
Should come with the chv-1600 charger like the new 52" zero turn. It would cut charge time down to about 1.5 hours. Greenworks 60v version gets 6x 8.0ah with 3x dual chargers foe less money.
These things come down in price and become more reliable , I might think about one. Can you imagine these electric mowers being left outside for years like people do with gas mowers?
Does your reverse beep shut off in the app work? Mine doesn't and EGO support has had a ticket for 3 months now with no results so far. Just wondering if yours does the same.
I just bought one of their push mowers for the small suburban yard we have. It's a great mower for a small yard. For a large yard however, I can't imagine spending thousands of dollars for a riding mower and it can't even do 2 acres before you have to wait 3 hours to charge batteries as opposed to quckly filling up a gas tank and keep going. In this scenario, electric is not practical.
Love my T6. Looked the reviews of Cub Cadet & Ryobi and felt ego would be the best choice for Battery Mowers and honestly feel down the road, home gas products will a thing of the past with more & more states evolving to non gas products.
Great video! Still not cheap but prices are coming down, good news. As a reference, it's about 1.5x the price of a John Deere S120 / 42in deck / 22hp, if we compare apples to apples. Another factor to consider is longevity. I still own my John Deere L100 I bought in 2003 and it's running great. I wonder how this EGO will stand in 20+ years, and how much those batteries cost to have some spares. I like the idea, but we are not there yet. Price still high, and no data of long term ownership (real long term - 5/10+ years).
The batteries aren't exactly cheap, but when you consider the lack of maintenance this needs and the time saved, you're paying a premium for convenience. Also tbh I'd put this more with a 300 series deere than a 100 series, but just my opinion
@@james2042 Absolutely right. A 300 series JD would still match the T6 EGO in term of pricing, and would last at least 2 or 3 decades, not sure about the T6 EGO.
@FullTimeGT if you think a modern deere is going to last more than 6 years you're crazy. Not to mention deere's right to repair fight going on. If I'm going to spend this kind of money on something new it's going to be electric simply so my only maintenance is the blades
@@james2042 I don't know about new JD, mine I bought in 2003 and still running top shape without any issues. I'm not saying Electric Tractor is not the way to go, I only mentionning that we don't have any data for longevity for now, and entry pricing is still a bit high.
@mark. Was wondering same, but concluded it was given since he treated it like garbage during the entire review (ie, power washing, cutting wet grass in the rain, plugging in wet charger, etc.). No way would be done with one's own investment.
Folks you want as high voltage as possible for my motorcycle i have 84V batteries. Other than that the direct drive is best thing that has happened to lawn tractor forever! The engine driven ones have a solenoid powered gear that engages to a belt drive that spins the crank shaft flywheel that systems starts slipping in little less than 10 hours especially if a critter like a rat has made a nest in your mower. The thing i do not like is mowing its pretty sick business so for me I am going to be looking into.a robotics system
Not a convincing mowing test by any means. That grass was so sparse with few grass blades per square foot and would not put any strain whatsoever on a mower. Anyway, I would never pre-order a $4000 unproven device of any kind. I buy Toro 42" gas mowers for $2500 mowing many acres of tight areas with thick grass and hills. Over 10 years with 2 mowers and both still running fine, Doesn't look to me like this thing could cut it. Pun intended.
Personally i say this is where ryobi messed up. Their 80v platform should of never existed and they should of just made their mowers run on 40v batteries in pairs. They already have multiple 80v tools on the 40v platform, like the snowblower and rear tiller. People would be much more open to the tractor and small zt having 6 battery slots and the big zt having 10 slots. The charger would still be 40v, the batteries would be interchangable with their other tools it would just make more sense. I understand the risk of people trying to run it on 2 2ah batteries, but just make it require a minimum of 12ah total to run.
@@shaunnightfire8269 Then same would be good also for any 21hp lawn mower, gas included. In 6 years when you need new batteries my thoughts are you will go back to a gas unit that will last you 15 years.
These batteries should last way longer than 6 years unless you mow every day. 😂
I think you're being really generous with six years. The longer you have them the more they degrade
