Im 73 and have 80,000 klms on my 22 Heritage with still 4months of warranty to go. Exercise and diet change and ride nearly daily.Sitting will Kill you!
I've been riding on the road since 1969. I deal with arthritis every day. Some days are better than others. Getting on my bike hurts sometimes, once I'm saddled up the pain is more tolerable. I gave up the tour pack long ago, it was to awkward to get around climbing on. At 71 my philosophy is to just keep moving and adopt Clint Eastwood's mantra "don't let the old man in".
Great video! I'm happy to report that 10 months after spinal fusion surgery I'm back riding my 23 Harley-Davidson, just short rides right now 100 miles at the most. short daytrips but I'm riding again!
Man, I am so glad to hear that! I just had spinal fusion around 12 weeks ago! I've been riding since I was eleven... went in the Army out of highschool, and the second thing I bought was a motorcycle! I've been riding ever since until a few months ago I sold my bike. I messed up my back and ended up having spinal fusion surgery and I thought I was threw riding! Once I get through rehab, I may have to go bike shopping at 69 . At least I have some hope watching your videos! Thanks Geezer!!
Man I'm so glad I found this UA-cam channel! I'm a 69 year old motorcycle nut! I got my first bike at eleven, rode the crap out of it. Went in the Army out of highschool and when I got home, one of the first things I bought was a bike! I've been riding ever since until a few months ago. I developed some back issues over the years and ended up having spinal fusion surgery a few weeks ago. I thought I was done riding! You guys have given me new hope! Maybe there's a few rides still left in this old geezer!! Thanks for the videos Geezer!!
Pain is a privilege. I know I will catch hell for this. There are old riders and there are bold riders. There are no old bold riders. You will still be rollin’ up on 2 for a while good brother. All the best to you.
Another great video! Like you I have arthritic pain which is often exacerbated when I ride. However, that doesn't stop me as the pain is a good reminder that I'm still alive.
Funny about the tent issue, yep, hotels for me and the wife. I'm an older rider, luckly I have no problems riding, only grunt a little after a long time on the bike dismounting the bike. Good topic. 2014 Road King, 2015 XL1200 C Sportster.
Last week while traveling through several States on my Goldwing DCT Tour, I paced with a couple of bullet bikes around Angeles Crest in So Cal and got some high fives from these guys when we pulled over at a scenic view spot. Scraping pegs on my loaded down touring bike was certainly no match for the capabilities of a track bike, but keeping up with these guys on that day was doable. I tried to look cool, but at 70, I realized I don't really have the stamina for stuff like this anymore. Lots of aches and pains and a sore butt afterward.
65 and for my retirement planned a cross country trip from NJ. I had reverse shoulder replacement surgery in February and thought I would be close to 100% by the time I left for Sturgis. I left July 23 and my range of motion was about 90% and 60% strength. Made it to Sturgis July 25, 1700 miles feeling tired but good riding my '19 RGU pulling my Mini Mate camper ,no ground camping for me. Stayed at Glencoe this year. On July 27 while riding with my Canadian friend and had to make a u turn. The handlebars went to full lock and had to yank it back before I went down. Something felt like it let loose in my shoulder, instant pain. Did a lot of one handed riding for the next 47 days and 8300 miles. Didn't let the pain spoil my epic trip to the west coast and back.
Great video! I’ll be 50 in a few months. The aches and pains have started. I currently ride almost every day. I hope that never changes. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks for the video! Getting old is a privilege. I agree as a older rider I am a lot more careful out on the road. I just had carpal tunnel surgery and will have the other hand done before the end of the year it’s bothered me all this riding season, but up here in Illinois the bike is parked till spring 😢. Ride safe!
You might think this is funny but my hands hurt sometimes in the middle of the summer and I turn on my heated grips on my 2017 Ultra. I also put floorboards on my 1986 FXST because of nerve pain shooting down my right leg using the stock pegs. But I keep on going at 61 and I still ride my 2004 Honda XR250r dirt bike it makes me feel young. Great video, Thanks
I'm 65 and got 2 bad knees and a bad hip and since Milton blew through I've been up and down a ladder way more than a fat old man should, but I do it to get my house back in order and I still manage to get out and ride all day. I'm taking today off from the house and going to Arcadia bikefest... hope to see you there.
awesome content , coverage and effort ( with the drone !!! ) I am an older rider that knows what you feel. I need to ride more often I have to admit...I am in PA with the season winding down ,,,wishing I would have ridden more !!!! Thanks for the encouragement !
My hands don't work below 40 degrees anymore (because I didn't protect them from the cold when I was younger "too tough to wear gloves")... Heated gloves have extended my riding season.
As a young man I built and raced motocross bikes. Got married and life changed. I’m now 68 and was gifted a sportster, which needs minor repairs. I can’t wait to try it out, the other side of me says “What are you thinking?”
Just spent 4 days in a tent and it's getting too much for me. Ordered a pop up camper to pull behind my Road King. Hopefully it will be much easier on my old bones.
I am 72 and just bought mybike this year. Quit riding 47 years ago but started back. Bought a Kawasaki Eliminator because I enjoy back roads most of the time but get on Interstate sometimes. It handles both with ease and a red line of 11,000
Turned 62 last week. Next year will be my 40th year of bike ownership. One heart attack and diabetes but, never gonna give it up. Bought my CVO SG last year. Have to take ibuprofen before each ride but that’s ok! Riding is my therapy.
I’m just moved to Orlando from Atlanta and my 3 bikes and my 47 meatbag self miss the twisties. Just flat roads. I am retiring next month. Florida is great so far.
Great topic, i love to ride for a long time and suffer for it later, lower back, neck pain, then I bought an inversion table or a teeter hang up, it's a game changer, hang upside down for 15 to 30 min and the back pain dissappears, no drugs needed, not forever but totally worth getting one to relieve major discomfort, everyday if needed✌️
Have you tried the carnivore diet? Reduces inflammation, gives you energy and helps with many age related problems, including joint pains. I can confirm that.
I have use that for years. I had to rethink some things for my Cardiologist. He is coming up with a GUT based plan for me. I am sure it will include me going back to at least a KETO diet. I have some issues that keep me from digesting beef. I have to work around that. My pancreas doesn't produce those enzymes any more.
I'm 68 ride from AZ to NY every year 6 to 8 days to and from. No real health issues. I ride alone cause I like to stop whenever I want and when I have to have a pee break about every hour and a half. Stay in motels, gas up every half tank. I will ride a 2 wheeler until I can't then off to a 3 wheeler but I'm riding as long as able.
Yep, know where your coming from. I'm 65 and have been riding since 10 years old. I can't imagine not riding. I have degenerative issues with my lower back along with worn hip joints. Osteoarthritis has developed with bone spurs. I now ride and at around 60 miles the pain begins and only increases with every mile thereafter. Sometimes the pain can become so intense that I have to stop because I feel like I'm going to throw up. I'm currently seeking medical help with my problems but it doesn't happen fast. Currently in rehab trying to strengthen the muscles in my lower back to develop more muscular support. OTC meds provide no relief for the pain and Dr's are reluctant to prescribe strong meds nowadays. I'm less than 2 years away from full retirement, I want to keep riding!
Oh ya I can relate!!! They say if you watch us oldies when we park our bikes we are walking away a little crooked lol I use my bags now to bend and loosen up!! Haha pretend I am putting something away, just to stretch the old back!!!
Yes sir... I do understand that arthritis. 60,000 on my '08 FLHR with Gout in the knees, RA in the R wrist (fused together), Psoriatic arthritis in the left hand and (CVID) Common Variable Immune Deficiency. At 60, it is hard sometimes to get my sanity when I can't ride and need a ride. I have so much enjoyable GOD time when I am on the open road. Started riding street bikes in 1999 and with 2 wrecks, 2 honeybee swarms and a hail storm... how and why would I ever give this up? It's in my blood. Be safe brothers & sisters...
Great video! Knock on wood I still get around pretty good for my age. On longer rides I will stop every 1 - 1 1/2 hours to stretch my legs and walk around for several minutes to keep from getting too stiff. I’m not sure how much longer I can tent camp though! 😂 see you on the next one! 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
You don’t stop riding cause you get old, you get old cause you stop riding.
