In fact, this portrays a bit of the history of Rio de Janeiro from the perspective of a police officer who fights criminal organizations. However, it is difficult to combat them as there are corrupt cops and the upper class financing it. Despite the efforts of BOPE to reduce criminality, it is challenging to fight against it when the wealthy help finance the criminals. From the wealthy's viewpoint, they aren't doing anything wrong by smoking pot, but from the cops' perspective, they are funneling money to the criminal organizations.

a unica auterção da realidade é que quem move corpos é a policia civil, ali nesse filme so falam da militar por questao de facilitar o entendimento, a questao da milicia é tratado do segundo filme
It is not a exaggeration. It is based on a collection of true stories. And things like these showed in the movie still happen in Rio de Janeiro and other places of Brazil

38:20 Exageration? Not really. The movie collects a lot of real facts and put it togheter in one film.
26:35 For example, this scene with grenade, someone actually dies during the training because he sleeps and grenade fall.
Or also this torture with plastic bag or broom in the ass which started during our dictatorship (1964-88). The US specifically trained our police force at the time to find communists and kill them. This torture does not leave marks easely on the body, so journalists were unable to prove dictatorship in Brazil and the US was able to deceive and "guarantee" that human rights were followed here.
The Pope did sleep in one favela in 1997.

O treinamento do BOPE não tem NADA a ver com ditadura militar, os militares eram truculentos durante a ditadura, pq estavam enfrentando TERRORISTAS! Os esquerdistas sequestravam, matavam, roubavam e como "herança" FUNDARAM O COMANDO VERMELHO (esse câncer que inferniza o país até hoje). NUNCA SE ESQUEÇA de que a ditadura de 64 começou por um chamado do POVO, se isso não tivesse acontecido não sei se hoje um trabalhador comum teria o direito de ter duas casas! OBS: não houve treinamento nenhum de brasileiros pelos americanos, pois se vc pesquisar, vai ver que americanos vêm receber treinamento no BOPE, logo, o que vc disse não faz o menor sentido.
"Fun" fact: This was suposed to be a trilogy, but after the second movie the scriptwriters and directors were threatened with death for being too close to reality and stopped in the second movie

Brazilians slums are that dangerous. Especially in Rio.They take some artistic freedom on that movie, of course, but they are like that irl. Not only the slums are dangerous but when the cops go in there its like a warzone out there
The whole violence scenario and interpretation wasn't exagerated or made up. Everything you guys saw in the movie is exacly what happens here in Brasil. Don't mistake yourselves by Hollywood scripts and stuff. Elite Squad 2 shows and even more realistic scenario that happened here in Brasil years ago about a reporter who knew too much and ended up killed. That's why, now a days, we fear saying stuff on the internet 'cause of the political scenario in Brasil. Thanks for watching this movie. It really means a lot to us Brasilians.

In fact, this movie wasn't overdone.
The purpose of the film would be to criticize BOPE and the military police of Rio de Janeiro. But the population embraced Captain Nascimento.
To be honest, the film brought a bit of reality, because it's actually much worse than that.
Unfortunately, the city of Rio de Janeiro was taken over by criminal/drug trafficking factions.
But currently, even in other states in Brazil this happens
Andre was a Law student. And it is very common for students to work at NGO for extra credits. He was keeping his condition as police officer secret to avoid geting antogonized at class.
Elite squad 2 is a less centrate movie into “small” battle between police and slums, it has a macroscophy View as how the politician work to win elections, use public opinion about crime, work as high end mafia with corrupt cops and criminals… Its a must see
This film is not an exaggeration of war. Communities (favelas) in Brazil are a battlefield where the police or special squads are constantly active. It's real. To understand better, watch Elit Squad 2.

There's no exageration at all at ANY second in the movie. That's the real life in a picture. This movie is awesome.
"Is he your only son?" That's pretty clear and understandable to me. You hear that all the time in Brazil, it's common. Nascimento is becoming a Dad soon and so he feels remorse and imagines what could feels like to lose your only kid.
You need to understand that this is something that really happens. And that is the reality of a region of the country where corruption is a perpetuate crime. Because I live in the USA, I know it's very different from our reality. And the scene of the burned tire is very common.😮

Wagner Moura, the actor who plays Captain Nascimento in this movie ans plays Pablo Escobar in Narcos is a very good actor. He made Civil War from A24 studios last month. Its awesome!
Bro, I'm brazilian and I watched all your movie reaction, it was fun watching you guys! But... honestly, it was not exaggeration. Actually, Rio de Janeiro is even worse at favelas. Also, the book that inspired the movie was based in BOPE officers story, switching names and creating some other personas, for safety measures, of course, just like Zero Dark Hour did.

The SWAT was in brazilian Favela to training and said that brazilian cops (not BOPE, ordinary cop's) are crazy and do not enter in favela.

It's not an exaggeration. It's almost a documentary. But I need to make a significant observation. These violent favelas exist in Rio de Janeiro, a state in Brazil that is approximately the size of the state of Maryland in the USA. Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo end up exporting to the world what Brazil is like, as the TV stations are based in these states. But Brazil is larger than Western Europe.
An interesting fact is that it is closer from the north of Brazil to the south of the USA than from the south of Brazil to the north of Brazil.
In Rio Grande do Sul, for example, these types of favelas do not exist as they do in Rio de Janeiro (Rio Grande do Sul has more of a farm culture).

No, the film is not an exaggeration. This has been happening here since before 97 and today it's worse. Not because of the police, but because of traffic and crime, which is much higher here in Brazil!
This movie is based on a biography from one of the old Captains of the BOPE.
And that book was HEAVILY CENSORED because of the obvious reasons.
So yeah. The movie is kinda a sugarcoated version of the real facts.

According to the actor himself, Captain Nascimento is not the "hero", he is a bad guy, a criticism against brutality that does not respect legal limits in police approaches, a guy who sees things in black and white and doesn't understand the social roots that generate crime in large urban centers.

1- it was not an exaggeration, those things are very much true.
2- Mathias dind´t go undercover, he just went to college, he wanted to be a lawyer and there he encountered those students and befriended them becuse he wanted to be accepted, except a cop couldn´t be friends with drugdealers and users that is the whole conundrum he was facing, how to be a cop and still be friends with those guys and in the end he couldn´t.

Hey there. I’m from Rio. That’s based on a book from a real ex-BOPE oficial. And growing up playing football tournaments and going to the “funk parties” and growing up 3 streets below the favela entry, also reading the books
and knowing people from either walked represented in this movie I’d say, they made an effort to NOT show the absolute worse. There’s WAY worst things.

It's like that here in Brazil and more so in Rio de Janeiro, which has very dangerous slums. Nothing in this film is exaggerated. When BOPE enters the Slums things get crazy. The BOPE training is also like this and perhaps worse.

The film is based on a book written by Captain Rodrigo Pimentel, and Captain Nascimento is based on him.
The voice over was a way of "fixing" the movie. The plot would be totally diferente in which Cap. Nascimento would be the villain here. But all that was changed during the post production, where the film editor brought a new plot in which Nascimento is the main character, and they found the voice over the quickest and cheaper way to guide the new plot

It is based on a book, which the author was co-writer, which details several real stories that happened (and still happen) at BOPE and the Police. so they didn't exaggerate anything in the heavier scenes, believe me, there are a lot of heavier things that happen that didn't make it into the film.
