Shout-out to the legendary Valerie Simpson who added her sterling & soulful vocals to the background. "you got it baby, you got shake it, baby! You got to shake it!"
Glamour Profession from Gaucho is a good song. Not sure if you've reacted to Green Earrings yet from their Royal Scam album but it's a real funky groove.
That’s pure steely dan sound here 😎 I used to listen this when I was 11 years old sitting on the rooftop at night watching the stars. Now in am 31 years old
The legendary Bernard Purdie played drums on this. This is his “Purdie Shuffle” or “Hard Hat”. Widely recognized as one of the most difficult drum sequence ever. Enjoy.
You're one of one my favorite reactors. Great job. This one of my favorite songs by Steely Dan. It's just a great catchy tune. The background singers are amazing. The drummer is Bernard Purdie and the style of drumming for this song is called the "Purdie Shuffle" which he created.
Just discovered your reacts. Love that you're discovering what us "slightly older" cats have enjoyed for decades. Absolutely love how you're genuinely feeling the groove of the music. If you haven't yet, get you that Steely Dan Poster... or two or three. Youre digging Steely Dan? You're family now with a ton of us old cats. Pea c e & Love. #NewFollow #NewSubscriber
I absolutely one hundred percent love your reaction to this song.watching your reaction to this song made me feel like it was only me and you listening together for the first time to this masterpiece by the smoothest band ever!!!!
Steely Dan sought to create perfect music. But they went beyond that. They made perfect music and made it relatable to the masses. Theirs is the music the best musicians in the world listened to and said "Damn."
"Babylon", like ancient Babylon in the Old Testament. Yes, Steely Dan is unique and definitely addictive. I'd also highly recommend checking out Dan Fagen's solo efforts (Fagen is the surviving half of the band; RIP, Walter Becker). Fagen's Sunken Condos and The Nightfly albums are the tip of the iceberg.
It's impossible to be slicker than Steely Dan. Their recordings sound so perfect it's almost unreal. Anybody who mixes and masters pop music like this today? Sadly, Hi-Fi is not mainstream anymore. Space as a technique has been forgotten about. Not overlooking the sophistication of the writing (melody & chords). This song inspired a song by Tears for Fears called "Standing on the Corner of the Third World". Not one of thei big hits but a rewarding listen.
This is where I stole my name from. LOVE this song! You really should on your own time (if you are afraid of being blocked) watch this live. SO good live! Some reactors are doing whole albums. If you ever decide to do that "Can't Buy a Thrill", Steely Dan is a GREAT one! Or Aja either one would not disappoint! They have been dubbed the "musical rubik's cube" and "your favorite musician's favorite musicians!
Late to this one. At 67, I'm soooooo glad that young folk are listening to this, along with the rest of the "Old School" rock, jazz and soul that I grew up on. Yep, there really WAS a time before "boomin'" bass, "beats" (i.e. a click-track with no fills or changes), and people shoutin' obscenities instead of singin'. I listen to what's offered today, and all I can do is shake my head....Thank you for keepin' good music alive. Lord knows we need it. Check out Mandril.
I'm really enjoying your reactions, please keep going! I can tell you are putting your heart and soul into this because of the amount of work you have done. Looking on your channel, I didn't see any playlists. As if you didn't have enough to do... Please make one playlist for me, the Steely Dan. 🎷🎸🥁🎹
@@ronrobbins2737 Great Pagoda of Funn and Night Belongs to Mona are probably the best tracks off Morph. Brite Nightgown is a funkiest. Great solo by Wayne Krantz.
Wonderful reaction to this one. Also enjoying the Steely Dan song reaction collection you are building up in your video list! “Royal Scam” and “Dr. Wu” are a couple more I think you’d enjoy. Also, add some Doobie Brothers, would like to see you react to “Black Water” and “South City Midnight Lady” if you’re interested.
Pronounced "BAB-A-LON." btw, there is a great documentary on, I believe, Netflix: Twenty Feet From Stardom. It's about female backup singers over the years. Very good movie!
STEELY DAN is not a rock band, it is a FUSION JAZZ or JAZZ FUSION band. You can thank the immortal MILES DAVIS for the genre. Miles caught hell for infusing rock into traditional Jazz when he released the album IN A SILENT WAY. Check it out. Thank you Miles Dewey Davis.
Female backups are the dessert for this feast!
You know it.
There are those who don't appreciate "Gaucho" but I think it's one of their best albums.
Shout-out to the legendary Valerie Simpson who added her sterling & soulful vocals to the background. "you got it baby, you got shake it, baby! You got to shake it!"
And Patti Austin!
Definitely one of my favorite Steely Dan songs.

Thanks very much for reacting to my fav Steely Dan song! I just never get tired of it - so moody and atmospheric. Love from the uk, stay safe xx

Steely Dan was the first group I bought an album at 13 years. LOVE Jazz and Blues!

Glamour Profession
Horns arranged by Rob Mounsey!
MyDesr, Try “Into The Mystic” off Van Morrison’s Moondance album to sooth your soul ! I promise
love the electric piano on this song
Such a subtle but driving force on this track, but even MORE incredible in Glamour Profession, my personal favorite track of the Dan.
This song is about a 30 something dude in a car with two underage prostitutes.
Purdie shuffle
