    Thanks Heidi, this is a bit of an older one. But I wanted to take a deeper dive into DEX’s. You’ve always been a decentralized advocate & I’ve always taken your words seriously. I understand your disposition on using mobile devices for crypto transactions. My only caveat to that is simply it depends on one’s security practices/skills/knowledge & comfort zone on limiting the exposure to & loss of coins vs. convenience. In the adoption journey it will be impossible to avoid mobile use in crypto. But your points are well taken & absolutely sound & solid security practices. No one can legitimately argue otherwise.

    A true DEX shouldn't require KYC. Unfortunately many DEXs have centralized components,. For the first time in the industry, we are having a fully decentralized exchange. It's called Injective Protocol. It's a layer-2 decentralized exchange with no single centralized component. It's fast, has deep liquidity and offers derivatives trading too apart from spot and margin.

    • @SonyJimable

      Because you are more exposed to (A) Govt and Corporate level surveillance is baked in at the get go (B) Mobile phone hardware and Microcode / Firmware offer a much broader attack surface for hacks anyway (C) The uniformed hardware configurations and file systems of mobile phones make it easier to produce malware and hacking tools for (D) You are running an OS (Android or IOS) you have no control over and you cant see what Apps or even device drivers are doing below the surface. You are utterly powerless with these devices... (E) The mobile nature makes it easier and more likely to lose or get stolen (F) The high resolution inconspicuous security camera on the ceiling at that cafe you are sitting in just recorded everything you just entered... There are way more reasons not to use your mobile for this type of thing but I think you can already see why its a very bad idea...

    • @CryptoTips

      Operating systems like iOS are known for having backdoors installed for various reasons. But the fact is, a backdoor can be used by more than the party who demanded it and there are very smart hackers in the crypto space who I think are capable of taking advantage of this. I just think you should respect your crypto investments and with that mindset, pursuing the best storage options in my opinion do not include the use of mobile devices. You can read more here: freedomhacker.net/edward-snowden-reveals-secret-nsa-backdoor-in-iphones-3617/

    • @CryptoTips
      @CryptoTips  4 роки тому +2

      Indeed it sucks, but it can happen. The thing to note here is that the hacker was only able to affect the coins of trades that he was participating in, he didn't gain access to anyone's particular bank account, or their wallets, because Bisq doesn't ask for or store any of that information. I have a link in the video description if you want to learn more about the specifics of the hack.

      Tyler Pratt because Exodus is a wallet and not an exchange.

      @@CryptoTips Heidi, Exodus mobile stole all my ADA back in Dec 2020! As soon as I clicked the stake button my Cardano was sent out to another address and the Exodus staff never helped me get it back and told me to report it to my local police! :( Is it possible to track it or get it back? I'm still sad thinking about it and the Exodus people never help me at all.

    Hi Heidi, what are your thoughts on the Nash exchange? You can trade bitcoin against Ethereum on it, while keeping control of your own keys.

    • @CryptoTips
      @CryptoTips  4 роки тому +6

      They like to emphasize that they are regulatory compliant, so I put them in the "non-custodial" box.
      Also, as long as the Nash team is the sole controller of the 5 nodes for the exchange, I can't say it can be qualified as a DEX at all. If this changes in the future and they open up that possibility for the public in the future then that's a start at least.
      Also the co-founder doesn't believe an exchange can ever be decentralized, that says more about the future of that one then anything else. (Suffice to say, I'm not too impressed.)

    • @nickstar0074

      Crypto Tips Thanks for your perspective Heidi. I shall ask the team why they want to be in full control of the nodes and whether there are plans to change this in the future (prob. is related to the path of regulatory compliance they’ve chosen I figure, don’t know for sure though).
      I’ve got a stake in this start-up, so I hope they’ll do well. I’ve heard fabio say a thing like that, I’m not sure why he’s got that conviction. As one of the founders of the city of Zion he’s a firm believer of public blockchains and decentralised networks, so I don’t know why he would think that exchanges can’t fully be decentralised.
      Keep on keeping on, stay healthy out there and keep the herd informed!
      Kind regards,
      Nick

      NickStar 007 usually those who choose to create non-custodial exchanges and have that opinion on the impossibility for a real DEX because they aren’t willing to pursue decentralization over the convenience and often times liquidity that particular centralization can provide. Their opinion really is not that a real DEX can’t actually exist, it’s that they profit more and find easier success in going the centralized route.
      My opinion is that maintaining regulatory compliance might very well slow them down and be more costly in the long run and it’s always better to invest time and energy into decentralized options for the sake of privacy protection and ultimate longevity.
      I’m curious to know what the team has to say about the future of the nodes.

    how to buy bitcoin on DEX? is BISQ the only option?

    • @CryptoTips
      @CryptoTips  4 роки тому +2

      If you want to purchase with fiat, then yes, like I said in the video, the only DEX option I know that allows for this is Bisq.
