The enthusiasm and positive vibes from the two lads is overwhelming .. You have your work cut out with this but it should make entertaining viewing ...
Nice to see the old transit getting some love. It was over 3 years ago you did the welding I remember as it was that project that lead me to the Channel.
Great stuff Martin , love the banter with your sons. Looking forward to the Transit build, i would do the same turn it into a day van and increase the value.
I’m looking forward to seeing the repair videos on the transit. I was the same with those air compressors my brother bought me a challenge branded one from Argos about over 10 years ago and it’s brilliant! Used it loads of times.
I did the same welding jobs on my brothers mk6. It will be great to have the van as a camper. I just got a 1991 mk3 transit minibus that was converted to camper it needs cleaning up though but it was only 300 quid.
I like your thinking about turning the Transit into a day van.It is definitely worth doing. It won't take you long once you get stuck in cutting out the rust, welding in panels,etc.,.
Jimmy is not so shy and found his voice🤣 that was well funny to watch and your right its worth doing I've done a couple of transits and made good money on them.
I started mine. Got windows in it and a couple of benchseats for the tea and biscuits. Not done roof yet with installation but I might do. But I then went and bought a small caravan so it's on hold. Better do it before it rusts hey?
Great vid Martin 👍a day van / camper would be a go idea would definitely add to the value. I know quite a few of the old renault master ambulance we used to work on were sold and converted when they came off fleet and then resold for quite a good profit.
to be fair to you martin in that last video you didnt let the problems beat you. well done mate, id have been at that window with a crow bar from pure frustration lol
To keep the radio code connect a 9v battery across the leads when you remove the battery. Not sure how long you can leave it like that for though before it drains.
Excellent vid Martin ... Again! ... Glad to see you working on the old girl, I can't wait to see how you'll turn it into a day van, I've been pondering on starting a VW Transporter day van, maybe watching you do your Transit will inspire me ... Keep it up mate really enjoying your vids and the vids on Retro Hax ... Cheers Bud
Looking forward to your conversion Martin, I converted my transit so I'll be interested to see the finished job on yours. I've just seen that exact lathe for sale on a woodworking page on fb for £600, so def worth a few bob.
With that rusty rear arch I'd be tempted to get a good second hand section cut out of another Transit to weld in - hopefully possible to get hold of a used rust free section from a breakers?
Mk6 transit owner myself great vans jst a shame there rot boxes i kitted mine out to with sink fridge cooker rock and roll bed all insulated and carpeted all registed as a motor home now great fishing wagon for nights out I’ve been offered 5 grand at van shows defo worth doin a self build increases value for sure because not everyone’s up to doin a self build great vid
Read what’s needed on the DVLa site bud but if I remember right you need a bed minimum of 6ft at least 1 side window fixed cooker fixed table and storage space
Looking forward to the transit rust part 2 and a camper van is a great idea Martin will be cheaper insurance too if it meets dvla requirements. You did well back in the day sleeping in the back of a transit and a Zafira couldn’t have been nice but atleast your mortgage free and your own boss now lol
The lads opinions were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. I have a 99 mk5 smiley and ive been patching it through the test for the 10 years or so. Looks like they designed the same rust traps into the mk6 so check the rear box section under the rear doors as that is another bad spot for the mk 5. The day van option will add value and how about a colour contrast for the lower bodywork up to one of the body lines as your doing it anyway. Use primer on one side for a trial run to see if you like the look.
What a polava it was trying to get it going. Even though the Transit was clicking it finally clicked when you realized it needed a new battery. Maybe when it comes to not using a vehicle for sometime you could try disconnecting the battery so it would save all that hassle.
Great video martin i loved the banter between you and your boys, i think you should turn it into a day van .I had a vw day van camper in the early eighties i was a left hooker that is why i got it cheap ,i didn't bother me driving on the other side we had a great time in it me the wife and the kids and the dog . yeah you have to do it. going back to the problem starting the transit. I had a ford zephyr 6 it would not start and i changed the points condenser and all the usual suspects spent all day applying logic then i discovered that the carbon tip and spring had fallen out of the distributor changed for new cap and away the six cylinder purred away. you are very entertaining me and my wife love your vid s and sharon and the dogs and the grandchildren what more could a man want
I’m glad you have to put new panels on, only because I might have to do it myself and I can see what I’m up against. But I’m not glad you have to fork out the money just to sell it. Don’t let it go too cheap either 👌
Sold my mk6 around 5 months ago was same size swb 2.0 100ps in blue like yours had 3 months mot and 168k on the clock was in good condition For is age and had a full PVC roof rack from Bolton racks , exchanged hands for £1350
Martin, great vids, just having a catch up, better than TV you need your own show, hang on, ah no you got one....good mic and camera, still think you should be on TV though or in a film
The rust above the windscreen could be a problem if the glass needs to be replaced, I put a long ladder in the back of mine and slammed the back door shut, out the front it went, I took it to autoglass to have it replaced and they couldn't put a new one in because it wouldn't seal because of the rust at the top, a common problem with the transit I think,.
I was thinking in the previous videos that you should turn the Transit into a camper van. It would make for great content. You should check out some of the various camper van conversion videos out there on YT.
Hi mate as a transit mchanic i have seen a lot worse lol if i was u i would mk7 the front end easy job but also have a look at the timing chain sounds a little rattley :)
ShopSmith. Not chop smith. But anyway. What ever happened to your friend with the Trans Am? Did you two have a falling out? When you were playfully arguing with your boys it reminded me of the times you and "James Bond" would argue. Very funny!
Great idea for the "camper" conversion. I think its going to be a good series, i cant wait to see what you come up with. P.S. why is everyone glued to theirs phones these days, it really bugs me.......
When your children start telling you what's what you know your getting old my Lads are always telling me what to do when I already know think it's jyst a growing old thing you start off in charge and end up being told how to do it Lol Rob
Is that Transit van diesel? It sounds like it when you have it running. You all must have a lot of snow where they use lots of salt to have that much rust all over that van. I like seeing your videos and seeing what you are working on next. Thumbs Up!
I got lucky last year. Someone asked me to help jump start their 12 plate Fiesta. Found out after I'd done it. It's ok, in fact still parked next to mine today.....but could have cost a lot of money.
You're welcome Martin I've also subbed to you're brilliant and very funny at times channel. I paid £30 for a brand new McPherson strut off auto doc took about 4 days to arrive from Germany every where else wanted £80 plus. Good app to have if you repair motors you're self.

The enthusiasm and positive vibes from the two lads is overwhelming ..

Yeah, go for it ‘Retro Day Van’ 👍 It’ll be a good winter project, ready for next summer 😎
I agree Gary.
Nice to see the old transit getting some love. It was over 3 years ago you did the welding I remember as it was that project that lead me to the Channel.
Yes, it's time to get it sorted Harry.
Great stuff Martin , love the banter with your sons. Looking forward to the Transit build, i would do the same turn it into a day van and increase the value.
These young lads don’t have a clue Martin. They couldn’t cope with the things we had to put up with back in the day. lol
Haha, I know that and you know that lol
I’m looking forward to seeing the repair videos on the transit. I was the same with those air compressors my brother bought me a challenge branded one from Argos about over 10 years ago and it’s brilliant! Used it loads of times.
Don't listen to the jimmy your idea is a good one ideal for you Sharon and the dogs to go out for trips love your vids
Great stories of your commitment to your family , brilliant Martin 👍
Thanks Paul
Just got another MOT last week. Cost a couple of bob though but no welding. New exhaust, 2 tyres and two new front lower arms.
Used to sleep in the back of my old astra van, got a cheap carpet and did the back in it threw a sleep bag and a blanket and that was all I needed
I did the same welding jobs on my brothers mk6. It will be great to have the van as a camper. I just got a 1991 mk3 transit minibus that was converted to camper it needs cleaning up though but it was only 300 quid.

Always funny when Jimmy and Gary turn up . Is Lee alright Martin not seen him for ages hope he is. Keep it rolling it's all good 👍👍
Don't see him any more
Great idea turning it into a camper I've done the same thing with my ex British gas mk5 transit smiley 😊
to be fair to you martin in that last video you didnt let the problems beat you. well done mate, id have been at that window with a crow bar from pure frustration lol
Haha, that was my last option Kris lol
Two tone blue over silver 👍 looking forward to seeing day van project.
guys you should do an evening down the pub,now that i would watch,or join in..
To keep the radio code connect a 9v battery across the leads when you remove the battery. Not sure how long you can leave it like that for though before it drains.
Yes I know Stew.
Mines in good nick atm.Best I get on with trying to keep it that way for as long as I can
It’s a shame your boys aren’t as supporting. You done a lot for Jimmy getting him set up. Looking forward to the transit videos.
They are only having a laugh,

U can't beat a mk6 I love my old rust bucket stuff what they our kid 👍
I like your honesty you could of edited the keys that was locked in the van out of the video but like many it’s happened to us all at sometime
Brilliant, you just don’t see enough plastic padding and chicken wire used these days ! Keep up the good work 👍🏼👍🏼
Looking forward to your conversion Martin, I converted my transit so I'll be interested to see the finished job on yours. I've just seen that exact lathe for sale on a woodworking page on fb for £600, so def worth a few bob.
Yes its better being sold than stuck in the back of my van Tez lol
Good update Martin 😊you three are funny 😁 Great idea for the old transit van 👍🏻
Great idea making the Transit into a camper.
Look forward to the videos.
With that rusty rear arch I'd be tempted to get a good second hand section cut out of another Transit to weld in - hopefully possible to get hold of a used rust free section from a breakers?
good idea, but problem is all transits rust around the arches so slim chance of finding repair panel from breakers
@@888johnmac Ah fair enough! Im not all that familiar with Transits so wrongly assumed they can't all rust that badly there!
I thought it was just me this stuff happens too! Great video, made me laugh anyway! I have the same model in use daily!
Day van it.. I have done the same on a Transit and we use it most weekends for a cup of tea. You will never get much money back for it so enjoy it.
Yes, I think its the way to go.
retrorestore The winter is my favorite time to use the van for a mug of hot tea and some toast, me the wife and the dogs!
Sounds perfect
Good idea, camper van,,done right they bring good money, plenty on UA-cam camper van conversions,,also would make great viewing martin,,
Cheers John

Read what’s needed on the DVLa site bud but if I remember right you need a bed minimum of 6ft at least 1 side window fixed cooker fixed table and storage space
Bonus side aswell is it brought insurance from 600 down to 330
Take pictures of work carried out to send to dvla with a picture of the front and rear of van with number plate so they know it’s your van

Martin, you all make superb vids. Entertaining AND informative, as they say. The Trotter Vans gone a bit quiet. Any news on that?

I'm keeping it now Nick, Check out my other Transit welding vids in my car playlist. There is a whole series of them to get it through the MOT.

Fantastic video, had a great laugh with you. ☺☺☺
I have girls, not boys. That doesn't preclude them from giving a bit of crap to their old man, either. We are truly blessed!
Haha, yes they do lol.
Loving the work you are doing and the content keep up the great work
To be fair I agree with Jimmy spares or repair. Take the battery back n get a used one from breakers just to get it running.
yes its too far gone.....will be interesting welding to rust?
@@colinjamieson8609 I like the camper conversion idea but I would get a different van its going to need hours and hours put in on the body work.
Might be worth to see what the cost would be on buying second good doors and painting those, it might save you some time.
I'm looking into that too
looking forward to the van vids :) iv got a escort van I camp in :) oh and you should also give jimmy a clip round the ear ol
the shop smith is probably worth more than the van ,to be honest.especially if its vintage.

Yes Martin love the transit videos

great video m8 looking forward to more transit videos.

But fair play Martin look forward to seeing it done.

Will be in contact once it comes.
