Extra props for 'Dennis' putting his arm around 'Brian' and his head on his shoulder.
The tv movie managed to get something right.

As much as I secretly love this movie, it's very silly that its idea of a happy ending is the "Brian's Back!" debacle.

I've always wondered how this was supposed to be a happy ending. The band became a greatest hits act and Brian was still scared of performing... and 1974 isn't even the end of the story. But okay.

Oops, except Bruce Johnston wasn't in the Beach Boys in 1974! He left in 1972 and returned in 1979 :D

This movie portrays Brian and Mike as a dynamic songwriting duo. Where Mike would refine all of Brian's crazy ideas. They treat the two's relationship as comparable to Lennon & McCartney. But that isn't the case at all. Brian did all the heavy lifting and the most Mike ever did was give some lyrics here and there. Any Beach Boys fan will tell you that Mike was a leech to Brian's genius.

Bruce Johnston didn’t return until 1978 and Brian didn’t return until 1976. Marylin and Brian didn’t divorce until 1979. The Beach Boys were actually inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 not 1987.

and this is their idea of an triumphant ending - a nervous/confused looking Brian Wilson being dragged/shoved on stage by Mike Love?

Honestly, it would've been better if Brian warmed up to it and did his falsetto part, but instead he sits there looking unnervingly scared.

    What a "happy" ending...
It's a very cold world eh?
even in the summer world of The Beach Boys

Didn't Bruce Johnston leave the band in 1972? How would you explain him performing with him if he isn't even in the band?

@@lesliegoodman-malamuth9796 Yes and hopefully there can be a new 2022 or 2023 release of this film with all the original scenes in the movie included some information on what happened throughout 1974-1979 then showing a performance of a song performed at Knebworth in 1980 with Footage, footage of performances of two songs from a show during the 50th Anniversary Tour, and footage of 3 songs performed at a concert during the upcoming 60th anniversary tour if there is one with all the surviving official members together.

They managed to make Mike Love look naffer & sleezier than the 70s real thing, Carl looks like Manson, Al looks like Mike in a Quaker Oats man wig, Dennis has gone from acting like a rock star in the wrong band to totally corny/ cliche, cock rocker & is that the real John Stamos on the actual drums? ~*dying laughing*
As for Brian - no comment.

Dennis drowned literally in my backyard off the boat slips Marina Del Rey.

  • @ponygon777

What a terrible "happy" ending. Dennis looks like a five year old at a Chinese restaurant for the first time playing with his drumsticks. Mike forced poor Brian on stage and all Brian can do is pretend to play the keyboard and Mike himself looks like an idiot dancing on stage, if that's even consider dancing. BTW the Beach Boys got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, not 1987.

Also Mike proceeded to make an ass out of himself at the induction ceremony.

According to John Stamos in an interview for the Endless Summer Quarterly magazine, the movie was originally planned to go through the 80s and include their concert at the Washington Monument, but since Dennis drowned in 1983, the movie would have gotten much darker and depressing. As dark as Part 2 got, the filmmakers decided to concentrate on the happier parts of the BB's career.
