How to make your own 12V constant for a car stereo (or anything else you may need it for).

  • Before you decide to do this, check your fuses. Something as simple as a blown fuse can make it so the 12V constant has no power going through it.
There's more than one method you can use to do this. You can go straight to your battery, fuse box at the battery connection, or pretty much anywhere the battery is directly connected to. I've even seen where someone wired it straight to the capacitor because they didn't want to try and go through the firewall.
I chose this method because I wanted the extra wire out of the way of everything else and already have enough hooked to the battery. This was pretty easy for me to do since I have already ran a 1/0 gauge power wire for my amps through a grommet that was already in the firewall. I just found the hole under the hood and pushed enough through to grab from the other side and pull through. While some probably wouldn't recommend using a factory placed grommet, I wasn't about to try and drill my own hole. I didn't want to hit any wiring or anything else that could damage my vehicle and make it unusable.
Before you do this, make sure you don't already have a 12V constant. Details on how to check are in my next video. It turned out I didn't really need to do this, but I thought I would post the video anyway. Someone else may have to do this eventually.
