I have owned my Mercedes EQC 400 Sport (base edition) for about three months now and I have to say that Rory has got his review super correct here. The EQC is not built for aggressive bend driving. It is built for comfort and refinement which most Mercedes ordinary drivers appreciate very much. I have driven both Audi E-tron and Jaguar I-Pace, great cars, but none can compare with the plushness and comfort of the EQC. Driving the EQC makes you feel really special compared to the rivals. I have also done over 280 miles on a single charge on road trips. You tend to increase your range as you live more and more with the car. The weight is perfect for the regeneration as I often arrive at home with the same range I left home with having driven around town for nearly 20 miles. So three months on, I am still loving it. It puts a smile on my face daily. Thanks for a great review!
Hmm. Not sure. Seems beautiful, but that infotainment system, inefficiency and price I would rather get something else. They are using the Mercedes logo to deliver something poor and rushed.
How long does it take you to charge it completely starting from zero?
No way 280 miles, lucky to get 225 in summer,190 in winter.
@@celticminkster9147 180 miles full charge. Maybe 200 if you drive softer
Got rid of it,one of the worst cars I have had,got a new Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, getting 205 miles in winter,my Taycan saloon Turbo done 220mes in winter, the GTS Turismo is a great car.
Matt Watson and Rory Reid are up there in the car reviewing world

"Four hundred hp in old money."
Makes me feel old.
Don't worry Rory is old too
This was the best car review that I have seen in a long time. He was brutally honest but fair. I am a new fan, and I look forward to seeing more of his reviews.
Every review is bloody epic! This dude legit knows how's to review a car 10/10.
6:37 That is a very serious problem that need addressing ASAP. That should not be going out into production.
Have they given it the 'A Class Elk test' Certainly doesn't look like so. Expect dead elks everywhere soon.
They don't care. Their heart's not in it. This is a compliance car.
Same for the 2014 GLC - Dangerous handling on wet and snow - terrible suspension - major water infiltration keeps the driver's side will eventually fry one of the computers - Steering wheel is off angle and they refused to fix justifying ''Acceptable margin of error'' - the constant cracking noises in the centre console are driving me nuts! And they take your big pile of money with a big smile those hypocrites! I am leaving this brand and for good.
Rory is by far the most entertaining car reviewer! This is TV quality
Literally, the cinematography is epic
Best car reviewer by far, what a talent!
Rory, I like your reviews. You're one of the best.
Rory is an excellent reviewer. I watched this having owned an Audi E-Tron 55 for the last 18 months and he covered everything I needed to know to decide on my next car in a years time. The weight distribution and brakes issues will mean I will stay with the E-Tron as I use it extensively off road for my hobby working my dogs so the door step is also a bad idea for me. The E-Tron wins hands down having such a low centre of gravity as well as the 5 different ground clearance levels which are invaluable for an SUV in off road conditions. Thank you Rory.
We have a GLC 220D, which we appreciate a lot. And I did test-drive the EQC last Summer. Beautiful drive, but two problems; 1) the driving range would need to be at least 550-600 km for such a large car, 2) still the price is at least €10.000 too high.
Prices are not high now !! 45 k for ex demo or 25 k for 20 k miles 2020
Rory you are the best reviewer. Love your reviews man!!
I think Tesla is more focused on kick-starting the electric car movement, not remaining on top :D
I agree, Tesla is an energy infrastructure company... that also happens to make cars.
I think if Tesla wanted to, they could make a luxury “dead cow and tree” edition but I don’t think they want to. Producing something that goes, stops, steers and uses energy efficiently is the hard part - interiors not so much.
A member of the MB or whatever Board of Directors has publicly complained that the EQC was "Dull and boring". QED
well thats because it is. I love MB, but this thing is ugly
I have seen lots of car showcasing but no one does it better than this man right here.
This guy and Matt are on top of the reviewers all over the world.
Doug Demuro also
Mat is boring and uninformative. Chris harris has The knowledge and passion
I like watching Rory, he's a great presenter
i didn't even need to know its curb weight...the car jus looks fat
Who cares ab weight on an suv tho
Sounds like Mercedes should have designed a whole new platform, the driving dynamics of Teslas are reportedly much better.
I can vouch for that!
Of which Tesla? Model 3 or Model X? From the reviews it seems it beats the Model X quite easily in that department
@@salemyr Well I've never heard a Tesla's handling described as 'like a drunken hippo'.
I've seen and read a few tests where the cars in the space are compared, handling always seems to go to the jag, followed by the EQC, then Tesla and Audi bringing up the rear. Rory is the only one I've heard being this negative about the EQC handling... and if memory serves, all he tested in the X on top gear was straight line and infotainment... in the US. (Been a while, I might be wrong)
@@salemyr in what department. The only "negative" thing about the Model X is that it costs more but then it's almost TWICE as fast off the line and has 100 miles more range. Other than that they are "equal" - please.
bro you need your own channel, your review are just spot on and keep me engaged, you need your own show!
I like EQC. Electric arent my favourite option, but i think mercedes do it well. My favourite electric is Taycan, expensive but awesome. EQC is okay, nice but i probably would choose antihéroes mercedes
Been driving my EQC for 8 months now. First things first: that running board that Rory so likes - I immediately barked my shins on it when we took one for a test drive. I pointed this out to the sales rep, he tried it, and agreed with me - he also would not get that feature. It looks cool, but for normal sized people it's negative rather than positive. Fortunately, you can opt out of having one.
I find the driving experience more positive that the reviewer. Both my wife and I tend to drive our cars quite hard, if not squealing tyres hard, and if anything she finds the braking too harsh, I have to turn regain off because she gets 'sea sick' with it slowing the car every time I take my foot off the throttle. We certainly haven't any trouble stopping the car suddenly and securely should a traffic light turn red at the last second.
NZ roads are maybe not quite as windy as some of those narrow English lanes, but understeering is not something we have encountered. Unlike the Hyundai Kona EV we sold in order to upgrade to the Merc. If there's one thing I would complain about it's actually the MBUX. It's too complex and not intuitive, and I've had to get advice how to do this, how to do that ... and still haven't managed to create a 2nd 'user profile' for the wife. Next time we get close to the dealership ...
I agree - I’ve had mine for a similar period and find the brakes completely fine and secure. There is also much less body roll than other SUVs of this size. I think the reviewer is off the mark with these assessments
Best presenter / reviewer ever ! Keep it up 👍🏽
Just got this 2 days ago, best car I ever owned
Mercedes EQC Is the world's most beautiful electric car in my opinion. So I would buy a fully equipped Mercedes EQC every day of the week.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great review - but I do think that MB is a company where, at least for this car, the beancounters had a bit more sway than the engineers. This platform doing double duty for ICE and an EV drivetrain saved hundreds of millions in development costs. MB will likely do a bespoke platform for EVs eventually, but we're still in a transition phase, where EVs and ICE options needs to be side by side for many companies.
Had to come back and see your review once again to remind me what an amazing vehicle this Mercedes EQC is.
Rory your now officially my favourite car reviewer followed closely by Matt Watson😎
Love the way Rory points out the good bits of the car with the subtle hint that the rivals are doing that little bit better. Jag iPace is bigger, Tesla greater range charging comes in second place...
the design doesn't look that good
audi did a better job
It looks like one of Nissan or Honda's really strange concepts. The front end is just bizarre for a Mercedes
Autobahn POV it looks like a car how legacy carmakers are imagining Evs, make am look weird and expensive with less range
Rory deservedly gets credit, but credit also to the person/people behind the camera. It's all very well presented.
Rory is awesome 👊🏼
Rory, your final opinion blindsided me, I was imagining you had a much better experience with it. The way you ended this review was a real surprise, but it made for a great review, thanks!
I like your use of the word "proper" three times at the beginning of the video. I, one hundred percent agree.
This review (along with its timing) sums up why the e-tron was a hit and this was a miss.
Tagg the e-tron was a hit? That's news to me. I live in Switzerland, quite a lot of people around here own an electric car. I've seen 1 (one!) e-tron in the middle of Zurich. That's it. One car. They’re rarer than a Lamborghini. I haven't looked at the sales figures, but at least as far as I can see, there aren't many placed with customers
Has been the best selling EV in Norway this year...
Buran01 Etron is a well built turd
I've seen a couple of E trons around me (deepest, darkest North Wales)
bullittuk and Tesla’s are poorly built reasonably well designed vehicles
This is the design direction the whole of Merc should have gone for. Also that alloy wheel is gorgeous.
Mercedes Rushed too quickly with the EQC
With the IX3 coming up A part of me is gonna find their reviews the same as EQC
Mercedes already noticed that the EQC was a huge flop. Hopefully the EQ E/S r better.
MrAceekidd with all due respect bruv if they knew it was a flop why they release it then?😅 The whole point for it’s release was to beat the Tesla but it can’t even beat cars like the Kia E-Niro💁🏽♂️...But yeah I see you point
@@MrAceekidd did they say that publicly? I
Or just the sales numbers
Katlego Moetsi the car is a startup for Mercedes and here many drives the EQC so yes a popular car in Europe. Where or who has said it was a tesla killer.? No one. If one wants quality they buy a German or Asien car, not an American.
Rory, thanks for revealing the truth about the EQC. I’ve got one as a rental loaner for my poorly E-Tron, and I have been most disappointed with the handling - it pitches like a ferry in a storm, and the brakes are exactly as you describe. Have done 100k electric miles in e-Tron and tesla I’ve been reading and watching contemporary road tests that place this above the Audi and jag, and have been totally baffled ! You did well to call this out in 2020, and sadly my 2022 plate loaner shows no signs of improvement since then !
0:35 EQC is new platform that is build from ground up. It is not just retrofitted like e-golf or older electric cars. Maybe it has similar chassis and interior but that is where similarities ends.
Whatever it is that they’re paying this guy, it’s not enough. What an amazing in depth review. Best in the business no questions asked. Love my boy Matt Watson too
1 of few excellent car reviewers who can eloquently differentiatebetween weight & mass... 👏 👊🏾
Looks like a real car,not like the playdough Tesla looking things.

It's crazy how different this review is, even though you reviewed the same car on fully charged. Much props to you!
Thanks for the clear and honest review! If only Tesla upgrades its 3 and Y interior to be more luxurious without charging an arm and a leg more...
Could you do a review of the Audi E-tron?
This man’s so good at this…
Great info. and review 👍
Off topic!
As a short guy, to everyone reading, pls don’t make “vertically challenged” or “short kings” a thing 😂
I know it comes from a good place, but there’s no need, really!
Thanks for this review, I can cross this off my list now, I want a car that goes around corners properly :)
My Taycan goes around corners! RWS and PTV+ does the trick!
If you have time check the rims of EQC on Mercedes Configurator, by far the betters one
Love this review and the one at FullyCharged. Rory rocks!
Great Review again Rory👌 , for a first attempt it is good but the biggest mistakes are being built on an existing platform having a transmission tunnel. Battery performance is also poor. Very thirsty. I hope you will review the polestar2 next 🤗👌
As much as i love Auto Trader watching Rory , I think Rory and Chris Harris should create their own channel , That would be awesome
Said it before say it again he's the best car journalist by a country mile 👏
It’s the first review that I saw from this guy but he is really good the only car reviewer that I am enjoying watching apart of Matt Watson....
Should Elon be worried? Yeah
But give credit where its due
People shunned away from EV but the guy ventured into it with all his family
He is the pace setter
Not everyone likes a minimalistic, no sidedoor cupholder, no center armrest for the rear car.
This car is not meant for driving like a hooligan. It's like you're expecting a sports car. This is a family SUV. Get it right.
Also not 70 minutes from 10 to 80% but 30 mins. Get it right.
This guy is becoming my new go-to guy for car reviews.
Model Y will demolish this in 2021, legacy manufacturers will be worried very soon of not already
Rory is brilliant with his reviews with cars. I am impressed with him and the cars he reviews
Still a first gen. car, first gen anything will have bad features. I'm sure Mercedes will easily redefine their EQ line-up.
That might work for a start-up but not for an established brand like Benz. Poor excuse. Any idea why MB pulled the EQC from it's American lineup? I know.
Thank you for posting this. I have been looking for an up to date review of this vehicle because most are over a year old
Had a Mercedes event invite today. £5.5k off and 0%finance. They must have stacks to clear from stock now
Rory.. I have watched some of your reviews..very honest review.. excellent.. keep it up
Great review mate , appreciate the unbiased manner your delivered the information
The face looks better in the gun metal grey they have, seen one recently in a car park and it looked good in that colour.
First time watching Autotrader, and I’m impressed! 💯
Rory has found his calling on this UA-cam channel, Great effort
How about Mercedes needs to make the Ener-G-Force suv first.
The Audi E-tron suv beats this & the sportback variant looks better too.
👏 Great Review Rory 👍
Liked your summation and all the details as well, you got it.
Cant wait for electric amg’s
You should be beaten for even typing the words AMG and Electric in the same sentence. Shame on you.
Fantastic and informative review. Thank you. I’ll enjoy watching many more.
0:40 staying with the base for an ice vehicle is not building a "proper" ev
Wow , every AutoTrader video has more positive comments on Rory's presentation than the car . Not that I'm complaining
Excellent job, Rory!
Greeting from Brasov, Romania!
This proves Legacy brands are doomed, 8 years behind Tesla already
Good review - liked how u speak your mind
An owner perspective.........
I currently own an EQC400, after long trial ownership of the Tesla X, Range Rover (ICE), and Jaguar IPACE. The weakness in this review is that it does does not properly compare SUV with SUV both ICE and BEV. Most cars have varying quirks that should be reviewed as "unique" or "typical" of the vehicle class. The EQC should be compared to similar size and weight SUVs, both ICE and BEV. The EQC is NOT a sports car and neither are most SUV's. The EQC corners competently at high speed with little body roll for its weight and a lot less than the lighter Tesla X. I have found the braking to be equal to/better than any other modern SUV I have driven. The start/stop cruise control is first class and automatically slows for corners and roundabouts. This car is all about regeneration and one-pedal driving. The car slows smoothly when regenerating, with little or no brake pedal required and you are rewarded with longer range and happy passengers. My EQC regularly has a range of 400km which gets me everywhere I need to go. If I was planning a trip around Australia at this moment I might be more worried about lack of charging stations although I have plugged the car into a few country motel rooms overnight for a little safety top-up.
If you look forward to fully autonomous driving, as most Tesla drivers seem to, then there will never be any sliding sideways around corners as the EQC automatically slows to a safe speed every time!! It's a near soundproof SUV with all the high quality that goes with Mercedes in a near top of the range electric setup. If I wanted a lower-quality/lower-priced EV with a longer range then I might wait to buy the Tesla Y, but that is a different buying proposition and decision.
The Mercedes Benz EQC won "Car of the year 2020" in Australia, unanimously by seven judges (they couldn't ALL be bribed) for function, technology, efficiency, safety, and value. Other contenders were Mazda 3, BMW 3, BMW X5, Range Rover Evoque, Porsche 992 911, Tesla Model 3 and Toyota RAV4
"Its quality, safety, technology, and refinement are what the automotive judges deemed impressive, along with its resolved electric drivetrain. This is the third time in the award’s 57-year history that an electrified model range has won. The Mercedes-Benz EQC was a clear winner, the EQC’s masterstroke is its stunning completeness. It was the safest car in this year’s field and also one of the most refined.”
The AP in my MS90D is a joke. Lots of OTA updates over the year have given me NOTHING! For years in fact it was more crippled then the original version! No EV maker should ever compare to t-junk, no EV maker should ever fall that low in terms of customer service, build quality, software quality, parts hardware quality and driving dynamics.
The Tesla are much safer. Did you look at the front? Ice problem is that you get crushed by the engine on front impact. This ev does NOT solve that. It is not build with the right mindsets and thinking. It’s a car yes. But uninspiring and crazy heavy and little tech plus range for the money. You indeed pay for the badge.
I'd rather have the Jag I Pace
They look like delorean alloy wheels... Stunning car I love it.. Beautiful
Thank God. It does not have a front luggage compartment like Tesla models as if there is some sort of scarcity of space.
I had a chance to sit in one of these during the Diriyah E-Prix, and I found the interior to be quite small. There just isn't enough room in the back, and not too much in the front either.
The engine in front just gives off the feel of ICE car maintenance issues unlike in the Tesla where vehicle maintenance is almost non existence.
So it's like a Tesla but with proper quality, looks and luxury
And with less performance, range and even more expensive...
But without handling
STFU
Yes it’s a better Tesla
@@honza2755 Performance and range doesn't determine a good car. Everything else does. This has great performance and range. At first all EV enthusiasts, particularly the tesla ones, were saying how they can charge their cars at home and wake up to 100% and only drive "x" miles a day so "x" miles is sufficient. Now that others have EVs that are better in every other aspect, a range of 230 miles is all of the sudden not good enough. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Didn't you have an EQC video out before this or am I just having a deja vu experience??
Also why are you saying "when the Model Y will be released"?? When was this video filmed, last year?
Yes. So interesting I did it twice. The Y isn’t out where we live sadly. -Rory
@@AutoTraderTV oh yes and EQC is not available where the Y is out (US) 😅

Best car reviewer!
Eloquently made and great points raised 👍
Whe nhe says it craches over pot holes, does that mean the car actually turns off when you drive over potholes or does he mean that the speed decreases greatly?
