I thought it was a general rule of thumb that the conductor follows the performer? The band, the cast and Laura all sound absolutely incredible yet its spoiled by the unnecessarily fast tempo. I'd be having a meltdown if I was Laura. SLOW DOWN ITS THE MOST IMPORTANT SONG IN THE SHOW.
Yeah, that’s about twice the tempo it’s supposed to be. That’s ridiculous. I’ve been in productions where the orchestra will “pick it up” a little if the show is dragging or if the company is wanting to get a performance over with, but to take the first act finale at double-speed is just inexcusable.
She has a beautiful voice and she’s so powerful. I just wish that the MD didn’t have her spitting this song out at the speed of light. The song carries so much weight and meaning but rushing it like this destroys that.

This seems to be an issue with all UK companies, particularly the tours. The MDs seem to forget they don’t run the show lol

The band sounded amazing, but also sounded really fast, she sounded like she was having to keep up with them, not the band following her
