As The Magnus Archives role-playing game by them is coming up it seemed to be a good time to start to actuality learn about the system. Amazing and comprehensive video!
Seeing it put this way, it's really quite simple, even though it's very different from the classic d20 school of games. And yes, spend your XP when you can, having lots of XP won't matter if you're dead 🤣
Bloody great video! I shall now go into a long written rant about Cypher and Numenera... *gets zapped for carrying too many Cyphers* ...and thats what I think of it! :D LOL
I played Numenera quite a bit a few years back, and that's Cypher System. I think my only criticism of the system is the tendency for players to death spiral, as you spend what is effectively your HP to do things while fighting enemies that also deplete said HP. For Might-based characters especially it felt pretty easy to go from totally okay to dead and feel like there was no point that you could have really gotten yourself out of it.
That’s a problem many people have at the start and it takes some getting used to. Especially by dnd players. Make some encounters a bit easier so that people don’t need to spend all their recourses all the time. Also do enough GM intrusions so you can give your players xp and they can use that later to reroll ect. Also, get yourself a healer in the party 😉
@@MrTarrasque A healer definitely would have helped the party, lol. It didn't stop my group playing, we still played 3 campaigns back to back and had a blast. People just ended up gravitating away from Might-focused builds to give themselves some "cushion".
Yes, a lvl 3 monster is a nine to hit or to defend against in theory. That said, some monster have things like because they are huge they are easier to hit and so their defense against physical attacks count as lvl two (6 to hit)
The Cypher system is good for any type of game, period. The whole idea of the system is that it just works for anything, is easy to run and fun to improvise on. That sais, Path of the Planebreaker might be the book for you. I have it but haven't looked super deep into it but you can get it here (affiliate link): www.montecookgames.com/store/product/path-of-the-planebreaker/mcgref/4/
If you made it 10 minutes can we do it without the wall of noise? When somebody talks like that it just becomes buzzing to me and my brain shuts off :(
Honestly i love players rolling everything, it means all the agency is theirs, theres no secret dm roll or feel bad hits because you yourself rolled it

@MachineWraith totally get that. A healer get’s to heal whatever atribute they want so it’s actually pretty fun to do

Wonderful im new to the system and need to learn it quick cause im dming magnus
So monsters have the same difficulties as any other task, when in combat?

I want to run a Planescape campaign. There is no way I am using 5E. How easy would it be to run it with Cypher? And what supplements should i get?

Put the video on 0.5x speed :)
I like a universal system, but I wouldn't Dm a game where I didn't get to roll dice. That's the fun bit
Well, that’s what I thought but now it’s the best thing ever.
@@MrTarrasque you've convinced me. I'll try it. This game does look really good
Honestly i love players rolling everything, it means all the agency is theirs, theres no secret dm roll or feel bad hits because you yourself rolled it
@TheLofren amen! Totally why I love Cypher
Why not just use a smaller die instead of multiplying by 3.
20/3= 6.7.
Could have been a 1d8 game and say have to beat the DC by 1.
Many reasons, one being that would not allow for nat 1, 17, 18, 19 & 20. Cause that would be almost every roll
Maybe larger range of modifiers too. More ranks of proficiency and such
This video is 7 minutes!
The video is, the turorial isn't
1st
2nd!
3rd I guess?
Sorry, you lost me about a minute and a half in 😵💫
