There’s a view among gear heads that the Jaguar speakers have this tendency to make anything, tube amp and otherwise, sound rather solid state-ish. Some people say that pejoratively while others see it as a great benefit and equaliser.
Even one of Ola Englund’s blind tests had him truly stumped when the Randall Jaguar cabinet was introduced with a Revv Generator. Ola was convinced that it was a modeller and kept wondering where the “sizzle” went. Once the blindfold was removed, he immediately concluded that it was the cabinet that threw him off as the Jaguar loaded cabinets have a very unique affect on the sound of most amps.
The 5150 sounded more like pantera than the pedal board
It did lol
holy crap!! the tone is. spot on!
Thanks! The speaker does a good amount of the work
How do you post videos that I am looking for the same day bro 😭 thank you!!
You're welcome!
Excellent video, very informative. You nailed it, speakers are definitely the biggest part of tone. Keep it up 🤘
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated
just bought a 2X12 for $385....pricey, but I couldnt resist. 412 carpet cab. super excited.
9-volt battery and a speaker cable goes a long way for quickly checking speakers on site also.
Even better: Connect the speaker cable and use a speaker tester with clip on leads. Easier and faster. Testers are cheap on Amazon these days.
Since speakers are where the sound comes from, the kind of speaker should mostly create the tone. It just makes sense.
Agreed
Damn dude the Iconic sounded incredible with that Randall cab and Jaguars. Shame they didn’t launch the Iconic with better pairing of speakers because it seems like it comes alive with anything other than the iconic cabs .
Thanks! Fortunately these heads sound great with the standard EVH 5150 cabinet
can you make an ir of those?
I will try to!
@@EricMorettin Please do that bro, I'd kill for a good ir of a Jaguar speaker.
@@legaloutlaw777buy some res80’s
Ola englund has an it pack of this cab in his store
There is one. Audio assault/Seacow. They released a full Jaguar IR bundle. They have their 3 IR packs for 10 bucks sale right now. it's even got a special mixed lead and rhythm IR, along with like 4/5 different speakers captured, along with 10+ mics. @@legaloutlaw777
The audio assault IR pack of this cab is great. I love using it
I'll check it out!
Hello Eric! What did Grady tell you, did RES-80 or RES-100 use Dime?
Great video, what do you know about the rx412 cab that comes with the jags? I've heard from alotta guys that they sound terrible and that the newer jags aren't what they used to be.
I don't have experience with those cabs or the newest jag speakers, so I can't really comment on that.
Just bought some string source strings and a pick. Dig the whole build your own set
Glad to hear! They're my go to for many reasons
I have an older Randall 2x12 with RES-80 jags and a Randall XL 4x12 cab with English V30’s. My older 2x12 completely blows the XL away
These jaguar speakers are something else. Really great speakers!
What would you say is the closest sounding modern speaker to the Jaguar?
Sounds really scooped compared to the V30 so I'm curious how a Greenback or a T75 will sound compared to it back to back
Eminence Legend V12 IMO
@@EricMorettinwhich of the eminence legends speakers is the real question? I had the 1258 at one time.
@@travisschuster4676 I'm going to double check the legends that I've used, because they may have been either the V12 or 1258. I used to have a Vader cab and that ripped with the legends as well.
@@EricMorettinlooking over the frequency graphs would probably a good start. At eminence and I guess if you can find the jaguar graphs that would solve a lot of the mystery.
@@travisschuster4676 cabinet, construction, grille material, and speaker impedance (believe it or not) all affect the sound as well. From what I recall the speaker graphs between the Jags and Legends are similar
if you want without a cab try the Ola Englunds Jaquar Ir's
Ill check them out!
@@EricMorettin Attila Voros is using his ir for his Pantera rig
The speaker??? The thing that moves air and make noise??? The one thing every guitarist don't care about because isn't shinny and we can't see em behind the black cloth??? THE ONE THING THAT EQs EVERY??? YOUR GUITAR, PEDALS, PREAMP, FX LOOPS, POWER AMP AND WHERE THE MICS ARE PLACED FOR RECORDING???
No way, it must be a huge surprise.
Yeah speakers aren’t sexy but they are the business end of your rig . Everyone will ask you about pickups, strings, picks , pedals, when you’re last BM was but never what speakers are in your rig ?
Eminence made the jaguars. They were a custom order from Randall. They all sport the 67 mfr code, which means eminence.
This is awesome. Thanks!
I have celestians and I think that the jaguar speakers sound as good if not better in their own right
is the 500XL the same as the L500XL
Yes
I forgot to ask this too is the Randall with Jaguar speakers closed back
@@CHOMPER-vw7zr yes it's closed back front loaded
Why has no one ever figured this out before???
🤷♂️
