woo i need a cup of coffee and get myself back to listen to this again. i love it. fantastic drumming. such playful trio. This is the "free" i like.. one that honors the composition
I cant stop listening to this piece of joyful and beautiful music performed to perfection. Kenny Werner is my hero, Ari Hoenig is just a walking symphony. Please watch the vids of the No Beginning No Ending orchestral and choral piece Kenny wrote for his little daughter who was killed in a auto accident...it is overwhelming. What a true genius of our day he is.
after reading effortless mastery i was happy with my playing for the first time in my life...for about 4 months. then i lost it so im reading it again haha. great book seriously enlightning
If you like this, check out the Swizz pianoplayer Nik Bärtch and his Ronin. It's also kind of poly-mix-rhytmic things, but totally different. No solos. Very funky. But I really like The Kenny Werner trio, it must be fun to play the bass and the drums.
@atbundros hahaha try to listen to Webern, Berg or Shoenberg... believe me, this is very tonal. It modulates a lot in foreign keys and the harmony is rich but it always move around a pretty strong tonal center. Man... That bassist is incredible.
no...it's not aspergers. if you read his book you'd understand that he, like the great artists like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, is in the Space. in this space he taps into pure creativity playing only what's being demanded at the time. read Effortless Mastery. it's a great read for aspiring musicians like myself
Yes, but in all reality, the music that you are used to defines the "schemas" that make you choose whether you like a particular type of music or not. It is a great comment, honestly. If you don't like it, that is fine, but this music is of excellent quality for this type of music. Same as the music that you like is of excellent quality for the type music you like
These guys are pretty freakin' awesome. If you don't like it, its only 'cause ur brain doesn't have the right musical 'schemas' developed in it. The exact same way an East Indian raga sounds strange and foreign and nonsensical. Its ok that you don't get it though, seriously, its just fine. If u were to develop the necessary 'schemas', then you will finally be able to hear it truly and deeply. In the mean time, listen and love the music you really love, and even still dislike this music. thats ok
@atbundros Man , wtf , you have to be kidding... i mean the music is great to me , but how can you say what is good or bad music , so even if your theory is right , cant a person who has your "schemas" developed just dislike this song?
its funny..the first 3,4 minutes, im like "this is everything i love about jazz". by the end im like"this is everything i hate about jazz". good book tho

@atbundros No, if you don't like it that probably just means you don't like it.

You've completely missed the point of the comment you replied to. wtf/?! YOU have to be joking? surely?

Physically I can completley agree with you. He barely moves at all. And musically I can kind of agree, but I still think he is a great drummer.
...and ur brain has the "right" musical shema? That's it...
