I have been wondering how to make these for quite some time now and then I came across your channel, fantastic tutorial and I will be attempting to make my very own bapao very soon! Best of luck with the channel!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. My parents were both born in Indonesia and were both Dutch-Indo. My mom did not cook this very often but when she did we loved them so much in addition to lemper ayam and saucijs brood. OMG I miss all those so much! My parents had me late in life and they both passed away early in my life. I wish I was able to have more time with both of them, but especially my mom because I never got to just sit with her and learn all of her recipes. My mom's I remember had a slight sweetness to the bun as well. Does your recipe produce this result? Also, do you have videos for the other 2 foods I brought up? Again, thank you for sharing this great video!
Yes, this bapao has a slight sweetness to it. I do have a recipe for saucijzenbroodjes: ua-cam.com/video/E82syIfxpic/v-deo.html I’m sorry your parents passed before you could learn their recipes. I count my blessings every day that my parents are still around.
@Toine’s Kitchen 🇳🇱 Thank you so much for the reply! So the bun is also sweet? Not only the beef filling? If so, that sounds spot on to my mom's....i cant wait to try your recipe! Thank you for the recipe for the saucijsbroodjes! Do you have a recipe for the lemper ayam also? I so appreciate your kind words about my parents, and I hope you are blessed with many many more years with your parents. Enjoy that time. It is like the years that have gone by with my own children....too quick!
That is exactly what a meant....not sweet like a dessert but a sweet note to it! This sounds spot on! Can't wait to try it. Trying to talk the wife into a stand mixer for making things like this and our own pizza dough!
Thank you fr this great video, now I know how I want my bapao to turn out 😊 As for the liquid after preparing the ground beef, I think that depends on the country you live in, when we were living in the Netherlands, there was a lot of liquid when preparing ground beef. Here in Spain though we've experienced how ground beef really smells, tasts and looks like after having prepared it, it smells lovely and almost no liquid at all, like 500 grams of ground beef after preparing here is 480 grams prepared, no loss of more than 100 grams in weight after preparing it. When in Spain, try the ground beef, you'll really like it 😊
Great recipe, I suggest you to use bapao flower for even better result. I'm getting also great result with 2 parts all purpose 1 part rice flower. But I like yours as well.
We tried Beef Rendang Bapao in Jakarta. They are DIVINE!!! 🤤 I am too lazy to make Bao buns from scratch, so the solution was to use frozen plain bao buns, defrosted, cut it half like hamburger bun, filled in shredded beef rendang, steamed them and VOILA! A beef rendang bapao, hamburger-version 😂
Let me guess, you are the one in your family who is selected to bake the oliebollen at december 31 in the garage? If so, can you please make a video of it?
You did great I love how you were folding them the bun came out good and look so delicious
Thanks!

@@P-Dawg-01 the bun isn’t sweet like ketjap, but it has a bit of a sweet note. Try it, and let me know, please!
@@ToinesKitchen I will! Thank you so much!

Honestly I tried the rice flour mix and bapao flour, and it didn’t make enough of a difference for me to stock (yet) another flour in my pantry

I have had the pork buns. These sound great
Thanks!! Pork buns are delicious too!
Can you make the filling like the lidl bapao cuz they're so yummy 😋
Hmmm... I don't know if they sell it in the Lidl in the US -- I'll have to check.
Ik ben zo in de war... normaal spot ik een Nederlands accent instant. Maar dat hoor ik dus totaal niet... Woon je in Amerika toevallig?
Dankjewel!! Daar heb ik hard aan gewerkt!! Ik woon aan de oostkust van de VS.
Great English untill u said eet smakelijk in the end lol. Liked and subbed.
Ooo nooo please dont use conimex. A abc kaki tiga.... everything better then conimex
What percent fat in the ground beef did you use? I have some 80/20 on hand, but I think that may be too fatty. Thanks!
80/20 should be fine. If there is excess grease when you cook the meat, you can skim it off.
I used 90/10 for this video.
Thanks!
I'm waiting for your gado gado recipe with keropok 🤤
Gado gado coming soon!
@QQ aniss - We just recorded the Gado Gado video... it'll be published in the next few weeks. No kroepoek, though.
We just posted the Gado Gado recipe: ua-cam.com/video/T7xKoGN_wEg/v-deo.html

Toine, these look great, but you're determined to get me to buy more kitchen hardware, off to buy a streamer 😁
Steven - A steamer basket for in a big soup pot will do the trick, or a bamboo steamer insert for your wok.
@@ToinesKitchen I did hear you say that in the video but I do like new toys 😁

An Oliebollen video is coming in a few weeks!
