We always throw one as far out in the middle as we can get and that's the rod that gets most of our fish. The current takes it to a hump or a piece of structure or a ledge right where you wanna be. I love the swing rod tactic
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 Saturday the river was on a rise and we caught all our fish up in creeks. Sunday they weren't there the river was falling and we caught them all in 40 feet of water.
Got my first experience catching some flatheads and blues last fall now im hooked quite literally. I'm a local to monaca haven't fished the Ohio yet but I been itching and watching your vids. I got a few spots picked out along 68. You think it's better to go closer to Ohio past the Montgomery lock or staying up around Vanport? If ya don't mind sharing a tip lol.
That's awesome man. They're a blast to target. There's some good fishing in both of those areas, Generally speaking though, , I usually stay upstream when we have little current and downstream when we have good flow. Thanks for watching.
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 Thanks for the advice. Hopefully going to be a wild summer catching some giants. I'm off to a good start with some big carp, but time to get some flatheads. Good luck Joe!
I landed a flathead one night and the bullhead I used for bait was sitting on the ground next to the flathead about 6" from it's mouth and when the bullhead starting wiggling again the flathead somehow lunged and grabbed the bullhead and tried to eat it. Wish I had it on camera
I just responded in your other comment but incase you don't see it, I run 40lb mainline and 60-80lb leader line for extra abrasion resistance. Reels are Penn Fathoms
My wife caught a 35.62lb Flathead the other night on the Monongahela River and it was doing the same thing! Night before that we caught 6 total.... tonight zero.....I think they're starting to spawn here in PA possibly.... Water temperature was 70 -72 degrees where I was at..... What do you think? Or do you think they spawn later on?
That was epic man! Once I get back I'll be trying to catch some flathead here soon. I've been itching to catch my first big one. Tight Lines fellas!!!

Yes sir! Absolutely. Also, this time and late fall I find these flatheads on the move out in the channel a lot.

Nice job buddy Crazy that fish was only 34 I just caught a 40 that looks smaller than that lol also what background music are you using
Thanks! He was chunky, I thought he was bigger as well... I use Storyblocks for music. I purchased the "deluxe" version, a lot more options
what reel was on that rod?
1st fish was Shimano Tekota, the other 2 were Penn Fathoms
@@hammer-downcatfishingwithj7223 thank you sir!

Hey man whenever you have time can you please tell me what kinda main/leader line you’re using along with the reels?

This video was shot at the end of April. Our current water temps are 71° as of last weekend. I'm about a month behind on videos

Some might have started spawning but typically once the water is around 75° for a week or so is when I notice the bite slowing from spawn.
When ohio use to have it back in the day if you went off to life of it use to be a dump up there
Where?
