As someone currently surviving the aftermath of Hurricane Helene with my Ioniq 5 keeping my fridge cold, my devices charged and allowing me to cook (including easily reheating things in the microwave), I think you missed a big benefit of eGMP - Vehicle to Load. So for a $300-ish lease not only do you get a great car, but you get a battery backup for your house. After going through this experience I will never NOT own a vehicle that can do this, and I'm already contemplating leasing an EV9 in addition to the I5. Great video as usual!
@@sambennett5203 that’s awesome, it’s hilarious though because you see all the haters saying oh where are all those people affected by the hurricane going to charge their cars?……🤷🏻♂️
@@sambennett5203 bro, do your self a favor, spend $500 (or 1000 if you want big) to get a gas generator. It will run 24x7 for just $30-50 in this kind of emergency. And $500 is probably the depreciation of a SINGLE MONTH of your EV.
Wow I can't believe how low that leasing price is. It's much more expensive here to lease, it's more like 700 for a private lease on the single motor least-equipped model when I just checked, the EV9 almost a thousand. I guess leases are a lot cheaper in the US. Do you have a yearly mileage limit?
Yeah it's great you can power a few household items off the EV9 (or the other models) in a pinch. But where exactly would you ever recharge when power is out area wide? (like you had with Helene, and I had after Milton...)
Seen 2 on the road with real plates in the NYC/Long Island area. Non offensive looking and honestly, it just blends in with the Palisades/Telluride, Explorer, Pilot, Highlander, Pathfinder crowd. If I had crazy dollars, a solar set up and a power wall built from salvaged Fisker batteries.... and a house... but I have $3.50 and a Tuckson. Thanks SG.

Just started leasing one of these a few weeks ago. We absolutely love it. Did the two year lease, got 21,000 off MSRP, no money down. You nailed the review, everything you said was spot on. Previous car was a Model Y, we do not miss it at all.
I just looked it up and these things are leasing for $760 a month in my area. I don't know where you're gonna lease a new SUV with a $70k sticker price for $300.
Great review! We bought an EV9 Land soon after they came out and we LOVE it! We love driving and using it, the kids love riding in it, and they always ask to ride in this car over my Audi, even months after we bought it.
Really…people think that these are ugly? This is way better looking than a Model X, Model Y, and a Model 3. They’re boxy and futuristic, so if someone thinks that these are ugly, then a Telluride or a Palisade is ugly?
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 definitely, Palisade in calligraphy trim, and the right color is very good looking as well, tail lights are kind of ugly or rather bland
I just hate the wheels. If it had thinner tires and cooler rims it'd be pretty good looking. But then you'll have prob more tire noise and less efficiency.
Sooooo…..I’ve owned this car since January. I’m tired of people complaining about where the hvac is. I agree that it’s not very easy to see. Lucky that little star button…..you can program it to do all kinds of things. I programmed it to bring up the full hvac on the main screen, I adjust what I need to, then push it again and it goes back to the Home Screen. Super easy and not a problem.
I don't own this car, but once HVAC controls became "set temperature and hit auto" I barely ever look at my HVAC. It's set for 69 and auto, in the summer it cools the car and in the winter it heats the car.
I agree. I almost feel like every reviewer watches each other’s video and decided that is the one gripe they are all going to have about it. Honestly it’s really not that big of deal.
I wish there wasnt such a stereotype around minivans because theyre the absolute perfect vehicles for electrification. I would rather see an electric minivan than this thing
There is so much battery space in a minivan platform that 500 mile range would be doable. Unfortunately, stand up comics and car reviewers have joked about minivans for so long people don't want to be the butt of a joke. But ask Jason Cammisa how much he loves his Vangina. There is no substitute, as Porsche used to say.
Well I think it's older people like Millennials and up who have a stigma around minivans. I'm Gen Z and when the topic comes up I think most younger people just find them ugly. We were probably the first generation to grow up with SUVs as our family cars and we aren't like the generations before where we grew to loath them. A lot of us went straight for SUVs as our first cars and will continue to do so. Minivans just arent appealing to folks. Plus they aren't like sedan or SUVs with tons of sizes and price points to choose from. It's all the same rough blueprint. I did own a Honda Fit which is definitely Minivan shaped. I really like the shape and practicality. But a SUV hits my boxes just fine. I don't plan on ever looking at a sedan or hatchback. I like minivans but they are really large and I don't particularly care for how low the car is. It would be a consistent issue.
Yep! Lucid Gravity is prime example. It's pretty much just a lifted van with small design features to make it look like a long SUV rather than a mini van. Honestly could just called it a lifted coupe minivan lol. People want 3 row vehicles with lots of space for each 3 rows, while also it being versatile to carry lots of stuff....that's a mini van.
For $300 im going to lease this for my 9th mistress and tell her to go pickup my kids after she gets out of class. Shes gonna be the coolest sandwich artist at subway.
the $300 is just marketing. once you actually add up all the costs its not anywhere close to that number. its just like tesla adding the $5000 savings that you get vs a gas car into their $200 pm lease deal. bruh.
Those bargain lease rates are typically not available in markets where EVs are popular. Here in Norcal, the lease is $500 plus tax with 5k down. Still good, but not $300 good.
@@omniphoriusvcf907 Love it! Well worth it. The ride quality is luxurious, very smooth, quiet cabin. For a car it's size, the instant torque.....it takes off like a performance vehicle. If you test drive it, I can almost guarantee you'd fall in love with it.
@@omniphoriusvcf907 the Acura ZDX has fantastic lease rates. In Southern California $400 a month yes five grand down, but I’m sure you could negotiate. I would much rather have the ZDX than the prologue. The ZDX is stunning and the cars are very similar EV wise, but the Acura is significantly more luxurious and sportier
Are we to just ignore "Premium Prolapse Plus" ?!? 😂😂😂😂 Anywho, Kia/Hyundai/Genesis truly makes some of the most well thought out and just thoughtful interiors in the game, ESPECIALLY for their price point. This one is noooo different! Great job fellas!
Ive had my EV9 GT Line lease for over 6 months now and love it - no head toss, the SUV drives and rides like a luxury SUV... no complaints so far and w/home charging rates Im saving about $150/mo on fuel vs my previous vehicle. Happy.
KIA being the benchmark to follow for American cars for interior quality is crazy and we would have never thought about this even 10 years ago they have come along light years since the mid 2000's in quality.
These are my experiences after 6 months of ownership so far. We have 5 children (aging 4-19) and this car accommodates the whole family without any problem. It may look like a SUV but the interiour space and layout is more like a minivan. You have plenty of space as an adult also inte third row. It’s very quiet and comfortable. It delivers the range that KIA marketed. No problems so far with the software or anything else for that matter. Cons I noticed. Well, the lanekeeping assist is way to aggressive, if you meet a large truck, bus or something on a narrow road and try to keep out on the edge, the car throws you back. Scary as hell. And the driver alert is way to sensitive. But worst of all is the speedsign warning. The car pingis and beeps all the time because of this. So I turn off all these features before I go anywhere. 😊
I rented a 2024 Sorrento last week. As a Subaru owner I'm used to the safety stuff but Kia definitely has to work on theirs. Over active driver alert, blind spot monitor going off if you put on your turn signal when another car is in the other lane even when it's ahead and safe to move over, and in drive thrus it constantly beeps while you're trying to order and get your food because you are close to the curb.
Mark - we’re on the same page. We’ve this on lease for “out of town” work. Civic hybrid around town. Glad you didn’t waste any breath on range/charging bull5hit discussion - picked this up from dealer 900km away and drove back no problems sitting on the speed limit in comfortable silence!! Excellent!!
At some point in my life, I crossed over a threshold and from that point on every vehicle shown on this channel is so far out of my financial reach that they may as well be intergalactic spaceships.
I hear you. I really really want to replace my Kia Soul with a Kia that doesn't have a CVT, but the Seltos and other next level up cars are now above $25 000 but that is a higher payment than I can afford (and the Ford Maverick is just above that price).
I completely agree with the video. I looked at my local dealership (I don’t live in a big city…I’m actually in rural SE MN) so we only have one dealership somewhat close. They want $349 a month lease for the bottom trim. RWD doesn’t bother me but only 230 range in MN might be an issue come winter. At $299 I think I’d actually consider it. I would have to look at dealerships in the cities to see what they’re offering. My only issue is my work commute is 50-55 miles a day round trip depending on which route I take. I’d have to charge this every day. Or level 1 charge it during my 12 hour shift at work. lol. Luckily I only work 3 days a week. If we don’t need to go into the city, our driving is usually 10-15 miles per round trip for getting the kids or going to the store. That’s where this works great. Almost free for those super short commutes. But in reality we are probably going to wait until the CX-70 has been out a couple years and pick up a used one of those to replace our 8 year old CX-5 that’s been trouble free with 221k miles so far on it (hoping to take it to 300k before we replace it).
If you hit the + in the top right corner of the HVAC mini screen, it expands it to the main screen. I don’t know why none of the reviewers are aware of that.
@@TimMug Seems like a skill issue. Took me 30 seconds without a manual and I don’t test drive hundreds of cars. Also since most of the controls are physical, you don’t need to use that panel much anyway.
Its the same thing with the HVAC/Media control switch in the EV6. Its something owners only know about because not obvious to even reviewers. The fault is on kia for not making this stuff more obvious.
@@davewilson7602 lots of EVs with 400k + km and some even miles. Lots of 2011 leafs still on the road and they had much worse battery tech than all current EVs.
@@nfzeta128to be fair, many early Leafs are on their second battery now. Mileage wise they will be great, but it remains to be seen if newer EV batteries will last beyond 8-10 years before needing replacement.
I've driven the 379 horsepower GT-Line and liked it, but the national lease deals I've seen have been on the Light Long Range with a laughable 201 horsepower. I can't even imagine how sluggish that would be in a vehicle weighing more than 2.5 tons. My preferred trim would likely be the Wind, with the higher power but the less clompy smaller wheels. If a compelling lease surfaces on that one, they've probably got me.
I test drove a black gt line a few months ago and I can’t get over how awesome this car is. The GT line is really quick and it’s very, very comfortable. Also, I think the styling is very nice, at least in black. I couldn’t imagine getting it in any other color. And those head rests, they’re the real deal!
We got an EV9 Land 2 months ago and its fantastic. No problems with head toss/ride quality on the Land trim with a fatter tire than the GT Line. Got a great lease then, seems like the deals have gotten even better since August.
I pre-ordered mine, so I've had it for 6 months. GT Line with all the bells and whistles. If' I'd waited a couple months, the lease payments would've been about $200/month less, with all the deals (and I got a good one at the time). I don''t really care. I love it. Everyone loves the way it looks, and it drives better than the bmws and Audis I've had. Which is to say, it nails the comfort/handling thing better - not that it can out-handle a bmw from the early 2000s. Gobs of space inside, and charging has been no problem. I wasn't looking for an electric (was choosing between CX90 and X5), but loved the way this looked, so decided to give it a try.
I bought mine. I don’t want to lease for two years, put wasted money down, have a 10k mileage cap, and turn around and not own anything 2 years later. If you plan on keeping it the depreciation doesn’t really matter. I pay like 4k a month or more towards the balance a month though. Also, just fyi, I have a GT line and absolutely love it and got it for 69 out the door in FL. Which is a tough market.
One of the best reviews of EV9. I am in central Virginia but here lease deals are like more $500/months with 2-3k down. Thinking of researching Northern Virginia dealerships since they basically are near DC.
Instead of the useless leg rest I would have preferred extending thigh support so if you are taller its a nicer place to be. That’s too rare of an option.
Mark, I would like to see you review the charging situation. It has dramatically improved in the last year for non-Tesla EVs and I think it deserves some coverage.
Nice vehicle. Great features and kudos for bringing the first three row EV to market. It's too bad you have to deal with the KIA dealer network to own one. That's gonna be a deal breaker for many.
Kia, Kia, Kia… although I’m conflicted on them I do love (some of) their designs both inside and outside. They definitely know how to design vehicles and bring luxury-level features into a class that not even “true” luxury vehicles offer. With that said, I just don’t see how someone could justify owning one with all of the problems they have. My dad owns a 2014 Kia Optima Sx-L and let me just say it is absolutely luxurious for its class. It has heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, decently sized (integrated) touchscreen infotainment system with a beautiful navigation system, beautifully designed and lit dashboard with a small lcd display in the center, panoramic sunroof, HID headlights and led taillights, power folding side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror w/ homelink, parking sensors, chrome rims, Alcantara headliner, quilted Napa leather seats, entry/exit power memory seats, keyless entry w/ push button start, and a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel. He still to this day, 10 years later, turns some heads while driving. It doesn’t come without its problems though. As beautiful as it is, the material used are very cheap and don’t last over time. I’ve always said this and always will, but Kia’s will draw you in and tempt you with their beautiful designs and after a couple years you’ll see why they’re cheap. The materials start breaking down rapidly, plastic pieces start rattling and peeling, trim pieces start coming loose, some of the tech stops working, and the endless letters in the mail of recalls. He has 175,000 miles on it and although the engine and transmission have been perfectly reliable for him, I do recognize he is the outlier in this scenario. Still to this day I see Kia is handing out recalls for engine troubles and it looks like their materials still have a hard time keeping up with time compared to other companies’. They will draw you in with feature-overload and hope you purchase them based on that alone… and it seems most people fall for that.
I got lease quotes from multiple dealers on a Land or GT-Line trim, and everyone quoted $800 to $1000... I'm not sure where they're seeing these $300 to $400 deals ?
I was just looking at these leases in Albuquerque, New Mexico a couple of weeks ago and they were $300-$400... I just went to one of our dealership's websites and their lease "special" for the Light Long Range RWD is now $871! :^0
Just got back from the Kia dealer. For an AWD Wind, with a total price of $69k inclusive of taxes and fees, they quoted me $430 per month, $2,000 down, 15k miles a year for 2 years! You can get under $400 per month if you go with 12k miles per year. That includes all taxes and fees! But I'm in Colorado where we get an additional $5k EV incentive and I'm a current Tesla owner and Kia is offering $1500 conquest cash. In total, they offered $20k off MSRP. I'm also considering a Subaru Solterra, though. They offered me $299 per month with 2400 down for a limited trim for 36 months and 15k miles a year inclusive of all taxes and fees, which comes to $22k in incentives. I know the shortcomings of a Solterra, but at that price, I don't really care. What to do?...
California…they are everywhere. But then again, what do we have 50 million people now and so much excessive income that every house is $1 million for a rundown rambler. Not complaining I have a Polestar 2, but it was like $300 a month😂
In Korea they are a bit more common along with other EVs, IK since I’m there right now. Funny how the Ioniq5 and EV6 taxis are everywhere lol. In NZ only saw a few of them roaming around in more affluent areas of Auckland, which I always found funny in a way
@@rockino2562 oh ya, I’ve seen videos I mean S Korea is is pretty much basically all Hyundai and Kia, Genesis…. Uber and Lyft have a deal with well pretty much every EV manufacturer, but there are so many Ioniq 5’s and EV6 that are rented out for rideshare
As much as it looks nice in cars like the Escalade and others. It's just not ideal vs the traditional layout. This was something that I needed to get used to when I got my EV6 GT. By having it just one single piece it made the steering wheel at an awkward angle. I have gotten to used to it by now for the last several months but honestly I would go back to a 2 sperate screens layout instead. Maybe they wanted something bigger than for the cockpit but w/o all the extra space for the shade. Maybe with the display tech of today it could get bright enough to see in direct sunlight? Who knows but I actually put on a matte screen protector on both of the screen and it's a lot better to see when it's sunny. The trend that I don't like are making the screen just straight and not at an angle. This was a deal breaker for me in the new Pilot when their prior gen screens were at an angle. We are not eye leveled with the screens in lots of cars so please don't make them lay straight up which makes them awkward to use.
@@rocketpac I know right? Even a quick search on the Goog turned up absolutely nothing. I've been a car guy since the 80s and this is the first time I've ever heard this term. Hyundai/Kia are being really smart with these leases. They know most are first time EV owners and new to the brand entirely, so luring them in while showing the brands can be nice, will surely result in a high loyalty rate.
Hello, I'm John Familyman and have been looking for a 3 row EV for activities. I think getting an EV6 and an EV9 would really energize me in all of the right places. Just don't tell the wife.
I live within 20 minutes of the the Gulf Coast in FL. I saw a couple of homes burn down last week after EV's got wet in the garage during hurricane Helene and others caught fire as well that were parked outdoors. I didn't hear of this with traditional gas powered cars... EV's are going to be hard to sell in hurricane prone areas... no I don't have one, never will.
you are comparing a FAMILY SUV to a compact wanna be sports car? Two different uses... EV9 would smoke your GR and BRZ even at full passenger capacity... just saying #hot_takes
Complaints? Lets see: 1) "The real boss" hated the materials thought it looked cheap and she's much happier with the cx90 Phev. 2) Higher trim is 6 seats another CEO veto there just cause of that. 3) The shifter is terrible I mean you had to look around the steering for it and it's somewhere near your cotch so you know the optics there of you fiddling to find it.. you get the idea. What is up with that on/off switch, it's an EV! And it's not like column shifter is new tech. I found the GM column shifter implementation better (gasp!). I mean pull and up for forward, pull and down for reverse, slap it sideways to park about as simple as it can get without the KIA fiddle. 4) The HVAC screen is also hidden so there's some sort of a lets forget about sight lights thing going on with them. 5) Still drives like a big box on wheels. 6) If you consider their own gas products (or others) doesn't always come out to be cheaper feature vs feature. 7) That 360 camera is firstly low resolution compares to some others out there and it's got a weird distortion where they stitch the view.
Good review! Honestly, for $300 that is an incredible deal for a lease. If you live a lifestyle where an electric car is practical and you are broke or financially conscious, then this is probably as good as you're gonna get for that price. I can't think of any other trustworthy, reasonable electric vehicles that will be that cheap and trouble free. At least we know by now that Hyundai and Kia are good at the electric thing, I would take an Ioniq or this thing over a tesla any day. I live a lifestyle that requires an ICE vehicle, so I have a sonata i got for cheap for that.
Great vehicle. Not so great reliability. REALLY not so great dealer network. I went to two dealers in MA and the sales people were literally acting from a script. One dealer began an argument with me for asking to get the lease price quoted to me by the Kia website. That + the number of people online complaining about issues with the 12v battery depleting, and various handling issues cropping up, while service shops complain that the factory won't do anything about it... yeah, no thanks. Fix your dealer network and start showing some appreciation for your customers, Hyundai/Kia.
you have a dealership issue, not a vehicle reliability issue... We have 2 Tellurides and EV6 (3+ years now) no 12v issues at all, yet but it isn't a Hyundai/Kia issue. This is a general EV design issue if you DO get it. Even my ICE Corolla had 12V issues that I had to replace every 3-4 years.
Seen a lot of these, they look sharp. I just can’t do sub 300 miles worth of range. If you want to get the higher trim you are stuck at 280 miles of range. Given you charge to 80% for battery health you are likely down to 220ish. Plus if you live anywhere that gets below 65ish degrees regularly, you can look to get maybe under 200 miles, even with the heat pump.
Saw one the other day, wifey liked it. It looked surprisingly cool. Seems like a nice people hauler and/or for hauling the Arby’s Catering trays for the outdoor wedding anniversary dinner party #LifeGoals
Have a GT line lease for the wife. 2 kids. It is a great ride. I enjoy taking it out and this thing can toast a lot of cars at stop lights. Drives smooth on the highway, it’s a great for day to day. I think it rides better than the XC90 and Audi Q7 we had before that. And it’s more fun to drive with better tech. Win in my book.
my 2 cents is, after being woefully disappointed with my ICE hyundai that was a lemon (veloster N) i truly believe that hyundai/kia/genesis will only be viable in the pure EV space/market. their ice powertrains just dont stand the tests of time from my experiences. but again, purely speaking from my somewhat *limited* and unfortunate experiences.
I honestly don’t feel sorry for anyone failing for Hyundai/KIA/Genesis products. They are candy coated 💩that look and feel good in the showroom and they lure you in with all kinds of empty promises and so called “Industry leading” warranties. But out in the real world, they are trash/disposable products. I have yet to see a Hyundai or KIA that still looks good after 5-6 years of use. Even major insurers are refusing to underwrite policies for these brands and let’s not even get into the third rate after sales dealer service experience.
@rj8954 engine was bad at 250 miles on the ODO. engine oil wasn't making it to the cylinder head quickly enough on cold starts and the vvt system and valve train was clattering like it had 250k on the the clock. very sad situation that hyundai wouldn't honor their warrenty. then 4 months go by after feeling so uncomfortable with the car and having to sell, (because not having any luck with my dealer service department and hyundai usa over this issue, arguing over not diagnosing the vehicle properly and not honoring warrenty.) hyundai got served with a class action lawsuit where they had to replace some 4 million engines. extremely frustrating and upsetting.
I never lease but if I did this seems like less of a bad deal than most leasing options. Id imagine in 3 year a used one of these is going to be dirt cheap. Almost half the lease cost of a Model Y.
Leasings really the smart way to go for practically all EVs right now. If you want to buy an EV, pick up a used one so you dont take a huge hit from depreciation.
That small HVAC screen, think of as an extra. Remember when they started using this dual panel? Yes, there were two screens and nothing between them because you couldn't see. Then, they added this small screen so that HVAC stays on all the time. For a quit adjustment, you can use that screen. Otherwise, click on that + on the top right corner to expand it to the large screen. No reviewers talk about it because they don't know how to use it or understand why it is there. I have EV6, and all reviewers hate that HVAC screen because you have to flip it between hvac and entertainment. HVAC is default on my car, and all entertainment is controlled on the steering wheel. It works great! Why do you need knobs and have to flip between them all the time?
Storage concerns are alien to me. I've worked the gamut, from construction, to food service, to office work, and coaching-- with and without kids and carpooling, and I just don't get the concern. Who needs massive cubbies? A trunk for your work bags, a cup holder for each occupant, and a small bin for keys or wallet. If I'm eating, I'm on a long haul drive, so I've got a lunch box on the floor. Who keeps asking for more cubbies and chambers?
I am. I really find it bizarre how many cars waste so much potential space. Especially compact cars and SUVs. The door panals just dont even try to have space and there is no storage options anywhere in the car besides the trunk area. You have to get larger cars to get any useful thoughtful interiors. What's funny is brands like Honda and Toyotas Kei cars have a lot of thought for the interiors. But when the HRV, Civic, Accord, Camry, Corolla etc are deisgned they arent even comparable in terms of how little space and storage they have depsite being larger.
@@baronvonjo1929what's funny is that this car sacrifices front middle storage space to give you a massive bin for the 2nd row passengers. Which most people with kids would consider a win.
Agreed.... people's level of anger when you tell them they need to just stop carrying so much useless crap in the car is on another level - and then they're surprised when, with crime now becoming even more rampant, they're the first ones broken into. Somehow, this has kept getting worse in the last 15 years. I understand having things at home, but have never understood an unreasonable "need" to bring it everywhere in the car with you.
It’s funny how you mention the head bobbing @savagegeese , I test drove an EV9 GT and found it very noticeable. Also was present to a lesser extent on the Mustang Mach E. Instead of buying the EV9 I kept my Odyssey which is stable and flat, and have a 2025 Odyssey coming.
Base spec is about $100k AUD in Australia at the moment. Hopefully they bring the price down to an acceptable level, the interior finishes just aren't up to snuff for that sort of money.
We recently leased a Land trim with $0 down and $630 per month for 24 months. We love it! Just got out of a 2019 Subaru Ascent that we bought brand new and had tons of issues with it. This is our first Kia and we absolutely love it. Great family car for my wife and our 2 kids. It's also hilarious how fast it is for how big it is too.
The 2019 Ascent is the perfect example of not buying a car in its first year. I had one and now have a 2023. Much better. I really like what Kia (and Hyundai) are doing in the EV space, I couldn't switch my Ascent for one yet because it's our long trip vehicle. I have a Volt for commuting though.
@@kamX-rz4uy absolutely. Our transmission died within the 1st 10k miles....engine had a horrible smoke on startup issue that was almost random, but seemed worse when the car was parked on an incline. Vibrating warped brake rotors way too soon. Clunky suspension noises...the list goes on.
$55k starting price for 200hp/250tq is ridiculous. This thing is huge, weighs a lot, and will weigh even more when a family is packed inside it with gear. That’s simply not enough power to haul or tow. So basically one would have to opt for the top trim at $70k+ for that extra power, which still isn’t much for an EV. $70k+ FOR A KIA!! Screw that! This is exactly why the lease payments are low.
Maybe for you, but It's a totally reasonable compromise that many have made. Ev9 is far from the first huge car with a underpowered engine and it won't be the last.
Important thing to remember tho, is u have peak torque from 0 RPM in an EV. That does a lot to mask the lower horsepower number, especially in city driving. My PHEV only has 144hp pure electric, and weighs over 5000lbs. It’ll kill higher hp and lighter cars to 35mph from a stop light, purely cause I get instant torque and I don’t have to shift. And I don’t even have awd. On the highway, I may not be a beast at overtaking, but I can still hit 70 in this century. In fact, I’m pretty sure it still kills the 2003 Corolla I learned to drive in, and with much less noise. 200hp may not be a lot, but it’s probably more than enough for a people mover.
Having test drove this car and trim for 45min drive... The steering effort at highway is odd, heavy off center for unseemingly no reason. Composure in body control is lacking over larger inputs ... Genuinely made me nauseous. The ride quality is quite good though. Regen is a joke and turning it off actually makes the car feel like it's accelerating. Love the head rest... Best ive ever felt and reminds me of X7 pillow head rests. Do not like the idea of needing to turn on an EV, it should just be on. Start button is in ackward place and shifter is odd but quick to get used to. Like most Kia/Hyndai products its visually appealling, feature rich and its beauty is only skin deep. They often lack polish, poise and refinement when going deeper.
video said, 200-300/mo range lease on a 70k car. Reality: 349/mo when you have $5000 down on a 54k base model, dont forget that in many states, you pay the full sales tax, AND it's only the 54k entry level trim. I did the math, if you lease the 70k with $0 down, it will cost about $600/mo, or if you put 15000 down, the monthly lease is something like $20, for a car with 160-190 mile range in real world.
I replaced a 958.2 Cayenne with an EV9. The Kia is nicer inside and better built. Doesn’t like to dive into corners at 8/10s but that’s more me wanting 60-profile tires on 19s. Insanely good efficiency around town, as high as 5.2 mi/kWh with a lifetime average of 3.2. Kia EV tech is industry-leading (watch Munro get blown away by the rear motor), 800-volt class, 200+ kW charging to 80% SOC. The key is to get the Wind trim, not Land or GT. If you need the extra power, it’s a $625 app purchase.

I wish there wasnt such a stereotype around minivans because theyre the absolute perfect vehicles for electrification. I would rather see an electric minivan than this thing
100% correct
@@baronvonjo1929Nahhh older generations don't even want minivans either.

KIA being the benchmark to follow for American cars for interior quality is crazy and we would have never thought about this even 10 years ago they have come along light years since the mid 2000's in quality.
Pretty low bar.
Yes. A couple of years ago, my wife heard a couple talking about our Telluride saying, "Kia has really upped their game."
Check that: in INITIAL INTERIOR quality.
This might be the best used EV to get. There should be a pile of them available in a couple of years for a song.

That majestic goose at the beginning was nice
For that price you could buy a gr86 and a BRZ and have four rows of seating. #hot_take
Big brain
is this boy math?
@@Affalterbach1967 what towing cable are you using?
you are comparing a FAMILY SUV to a compact wanna be sports car? Two different uses... EV9 would smoke your GR and BRZ even at full passenger capacity... just saying #hot_takes
Personally I’m privy to daisy chaining three rows of Venom x22GTs together to a sleigh and toting my kids around like Santa
Zenith Passage again 🖤. Thank you for yet another quality and informative video. These save me so much time at work (sales pls don't BBQ me)
As Yogi Berra would say " nobody buys EV's because nobody owns their own home to charge it " .
The leaned back front door open decapitated driver look is incredible
In a related note, I saw a CrossCabriolet out in the wild today and it was glorious.
It has a presence. More than you can say about most new SUVs 😅. And they keep some physical buttons, which is great.
@@ajlbeer meh… come back after you buy one and then you can comment on the dealer network…
There is a guy on Facebook that has an Ioniq 5 with 150K miles. Uses it for Uber and Lyft. I think their EV drivetrains are quite robust.
The 12v issues are solved by wrapping a Whole Foods Cold bag around the battery.
you have a dealership issue, not a vehicle reliability issue... We have 2 Tellurides and EV6 (3+ years now) no 12v issues at all, yet but it isn't a Hyundai/Kia issue. This is a general EV design issue if you DO get it. Even my ICE Corolla had 12V issues that I had to replace every 3-4 years.
@@MugatuJag Kia isn't known for a good dealer network.
Saw one of these on the road. It’s the biggest KIA in the states by a long shot.
Few inches longer than telluride.
Cargo room in the Lucid look pretty awesome.
Average buyer who can afford this no longer has kids in the house. What’s the point of driving a bus?
I'm 39 with a 2 and 3 year old. My friends are all in the same boat
Earn more. Stop bitching about being poor on yt
haha. u got a solid point
You can be in your early fifties with 2 or 3 tall teenagers still living a home
love to see the geese being zenith passage enjoyers 🤘
Van > SUV if you have two plus kids.
If like me you're committed to EV, this is one of the only options.
I'd love a rivian or a lucid gravity, but this is half the price.
Fair point, what about the Pacifica Hybrid?
All fun and games until the first error/problem crops up and you have to deal with KIA service😂
my 2 cents is, after being woefully disappointed with my ICE hyundai that was a lemon (veloster N) i truly believe that hyundai/kia/genesis will only be viable in the pure EV space/market. their ice powertrains just dont stand the tests of time from my experiences. but again, purely speaking from my somewhat *limited* and unfortunate experiences.
I also had an issue with my i30N in australia. The 8 speed DCT gave up on the highway and essentially shredded itself.
what happened to your VN?
I love mine. Lease is the only way to go 100%
Saw one of these the other day, they're not bad looking and seem to be a decent sized three row.
I think Mark made a mistake. The lease is $300 to $400 a week, not a month, for the top trim level.
Cool cut to final thoughts. Lease makes me nervous with kids who destroy all
Where this concept falls apart is that a family hauler should be suitable for long trips, and this is a slow-charging electric car.
And that’s the crux of the matter with 100% current day EVs.
@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 I'm making a different point. Some owners just commute, and for them 200-mile range is OK. This is a family road trip car.
Really nice vehicle. I have to say that it looks really premium. Sadly for most of the European people it’s too big.
Greetings from Slovakia👋🏻
It’s perfect in Norway:)
But when the HRV, Civic, Accord, Camry, Corolla etc are deisgned they arent even comparable in terms of how little space and storage they have depsite being larger.
there’s five million cubbies and bins In cars just to end up filling them with useless items
People ALWAYS overestimate what they actually need. It's very profitable selling people the idea of things, hence why lifestyle vehicles do so well.
All fun and games with the KIA until the first problem
Crops up and you have to deal with their third rate service dept.
@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 You can’t overstate just how bad the dealer experience is. I know first hand after leasing a lemon Kia Niro EV.
In Canada, the price is cheaper but we pay 1000+ for Land premium/GT lease per month. And then 300$ in US, thanks KIA
I own an Kia Sportage HEV and absolutely agree with your well perceived 'skin deep' statement.
video said, 200-300/mo range lease on a 70k car.
Can't wait for the smaller EV3
And how’s the KIA dealer service experience? Can’t possibly be at the same level or better than Porsche.
@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 Much better than Porsche. I had multiple take-backs with the Cayenne, including having a car returned with disassembled interior and screws rolling around the floor, showing up with a reserved loaner and being told to take an Uber instead, etc.
@@Ficon Wow you had a terrible Porsche dealer then. Can’t blame you. Hope the KIA works out for you! Their service departments scare me.
@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 Porsche ownership was not worth it for me and the car was starting to fall apart at 40k miles (new water pump) with a ton of issues since new that the dealer never fixed (creaky door hinges, gaping seals around windows, second hand fell off on the dashboard clock lol).
not bad at all; a lot of interesting stuff coming from the Korean twins. A little too weird for my liking though. We have a 2018 Toyota Highlander and we love it, but its 2GR-FKS is pretty thirsty. I think target buyers for 3-rows are in their late 20s to late thirties (ya know, for kids). Beyond that, I think as my kids get into their teens, we'll probably sell the Highlander and get a 2-row instead, hopefully a plug-in hybrid at that point.
edit : hey, why can't we get blue paint in Canada? lol
Great 3 row suv, I want one!
Awesome vehicle, as pointed out you will regret financing one of these. I love our ioniq 5 but It’s worth 1/2 at best of what I owe on it. At this point I plan to keep it indefinitely because by the time I have it paid off I anticipate it being worth 5-10k trade in.
Mark, we're basically in the same zipcode, show me where these are $200-300 lease deals with $2-3k down
Its not in our area yet. But we also are in a more competitive market here
Colorado is where the real deals are with extra state incentives. I leased mine for $460 a month with $5k down in NJ. It's a wind trim, $65k MSRP. I dont think you would get a GT line($75k+) for less than $300 a month, even in CO
Looking nationwide, I only see them for around $300/mo with 5k down
I leased a GT-Line in California for roughly $900.00 after taxes a few months ago. Would have loved to get it for less, but back then, this was pretty much what everyone was getting…
@@savagegeese Iowa you're looking at 7-800/mo - on a 79k GT-L EV9 - real #s
In Canada, the lease "deal" is 7.99%, over $1,000 CAD per month for a Land w/ Premium package (without options). Hmmm... Not great tbh
