    I like how this Air Assault event performed, Map-based & slides briefing > Simulated sortie > AAR visualization, forming a Combat Aviation Flight with a mix of White/Scout team (2xOH-KA50¯¹)* + Red/Weapon team (2xAH-64D) + Blue/Rifle chalks team (2xUH-1H).. I hope I see more of Chopper missions with the integration of Combat Support Assets (M109 Arty + A-10 CAS).. plz keep'em coming up.

    God, it must be nice being able to hover without immediately taking a TOW or Dshka round the face from 5 miles away.

      Hehe, just shows how often mission designers make hardcore-mode missions.

    Understanding this mission ROE for that Urban Area @ SE Quadrant/Grid DU86, prohibits engaging hostiles in close proximity to civies.. , but I think the AMC (C/S Vader6) could unleash the shark when he pulls away from the flight to scout ahead, to CQB while the 64 provide support, and buy time for UHs drop off their boots.
    as the 50 is a RAH multirole chopper (Recon/Attack Helo) geared by coax + 2xpowerful engines, I firmly believe the 50 fits for the task, just needs to check the gross weight before T/O, and set the gun in fix mode - long burst - low rate.

      Interesting. we had 2 (or was it 3?) Apache's first sortie, so my role was the overwatch from a static position, chosen mainly because scopes & gun more limited to the forward arc but also power loss for a hover is a bit less. Idea was after I was set up and made sure nothing was fantastically wrong from the outside, the 2-3 Apaches would then go in and circle the whole town scouting out the rest for obvious threats. Then we'd call in the transports and the Apache's would keep circling the town, always more or less opposite one another while the Shark intently covers the landing zone.

      @@volkvoort I taste some sweetness of DCSing in this Vid.. man, and I'm looking for the next episodes/missions of this combat chopper session..
      btw, the 50 was using the gun's HEF-T rounds to suppress, and as far I know those rounds are self-destruction @ 4 Kliks slant-range, did u think if they started to Airburst just near the AK47 dudes, that would kill them ⁉

    • @volkvoort
      @volkvoort  8 місяців тому +1

      @@tmting4942 pretty sure the self-destruct should still harm anything nearby, though don't think there were any max-range targets in this one. The HE did have some really good effects on that conga line of guys that came around the corner (at least the group where I was in control of the yaw).

    Thanks for sharing interesting to watch the AAR and the points that are brought up. From my perspective the difficulty is that you guys don’t fly together regularly so there is always room for confusion. The way i see it when fly/;ing sorties is, the mission brief is setting the stage and giving the rules of engagement. Even if lead does not particularly call out “weapons free” it is expected that the unit has read the brief and knows when to shoot or not. If not someone should ask 😊. Another difficulty was that you guys where flying a lot of different airframes with different capabilities, what might work for the Apache might not for the shark.
    Thanks again for the insight. It’s great fun to watch!

      Oh absolutely that. Not a set squadron with qualifications or regular training with same members where you know everyone's on the same page. And also free-to-join, so not like Bulldawg had a headsup on whether we were all Mi-8s, or what makeup of what, but his training and mission catered for all those. Some of the things were detailed in the initial briefing which I had to trim out for time, like which formation and rules of engagement. Some guys also joined a bit later so missed out some of those callouts. That and it was less formal comms in SRS, but more an open discussion sort-of, so we stepped on comms a bit, clarifying things, rather than pure command-asknowledgement-execution-report back.
      Just saw your Ka-50/Hind coop video - very nice.

      @@volkvoort Bulldawg is a great guy. I was attending one of his earlier lessons on helo TTPs. I will try to attend next time on one of his helo lessons. This video also inspired me to do something similar for our small team. Thank you for the kind words. 🙏😊

    I would love to do something like this with the ah64 in dcs. I love the ka50 but poor ka50 and it's limitations, still did pretty well.

    • @volkvoort
      @volkvoort  9 місяців тому +2

      Shark observing from forward flight or race-tracks outside or hovering works just fine - you have the range on eg the cannon to make it work, and provided you don't suck at the flying like I did there it's a very stable platform doing that. For the orbits you might need to include a little more sideslip/strafing sideways, i.e. more of a flat turn if you think there's something you need to engage. I wouldn't say quite a funnel, since you likely want to be a little if you're going to be passing around over a road and losing sight too fast.
      64 is of course definitely what you wanna fly for scouting out a town at night, and of course George will spot things in no-time if he has the slightest line of sight. FLIR and the FCR can of course also be very powerful in the day since there's no clutter of civilians and their machines or civvy traffic and trucks (unless the mission specifically floods the normally deserted towns with such objects/units).
      As you saw the training applied to all helos, so dunno if Bulldawg will run Fire & Maneuver part 2 (the event name for this Air Assault training) again soon, but Apache would definitely be available for you.

      You actually did really good in the KA 50 and it seems like the apachees didn't engage anyone lol.
      Are you using VR or just head tracking?
      I need to get into DCS multi-player and currently have zero multi-player experience and only mild apache experience. I'm currently away from home because of work but I'll be back February and would love to do training flights... after I figure out the apache again lol.

    • @volkvoort
      @volkvoort  8 місяців тому

      @@ivaniuk123 headtracking made from cardboard & electrical tape ;-) . Might have a solution for you - in Feb, hop on that TDCS discord, then ping a mentor to touch you up on specific areas you feel you're feeling short on the Apache. Entirely possible Zen from this video helps out. But then you can experience multiplayer in a training environment and brush up the Apache skills without being expected to being super-capable.
