As an older white guy myself, I didn't realize that black people are still living with so much fear. It's easy for many of us to dismiss racism because post civil rights, it seems on the surface that everybody has access (roughly speaking) to everything we do. When I see people Of color shopping, dining, living and enjoying many of the things I do, it's difficult to acknowledge the nuances because they're deeply layered and in many cases abstract. I've always considered myself a liberal, but as-of late I have become somewhat critical of the overt political correctness that often gets displayed. Recently, I've come to realize that the motive of many activists is not to diminish the First Amendment, but to demand respect and in all honesty I can respect that. Also, as an older white guy that knows many Republicans, I often think their elitism gets mistaken for racism. I'm not saying they're not racist but I have a feeling Ms. Pat's dentist probably doesn't hate people of color, he just doesn't want to help fund their healthcare. Who knows, maybe he is a racist but as a society sometimes we mislabel people before we know their full intentions. It's difficult because there is no instruction manual to effectively run a multicultural society, all we can do is listen and respond with compassion. Thanks for the discussion Ms. Pat and also you've convinced me to get off my behind and vote for Biden!

I really like your response and "as an older white man" to be open to listening to another groups point of view. It is so important. I wish more white people would be open to really listening to the perspective of black people in America.

I agree with you! The primary aspect that scares me a lot is that it feels like our society, in general, is more and more "anti-human." I think technology and other things have separated people. While computers/internet/phones/apps make life easier in a lot of ways, we don't really interact with other people in the ways we once did and we are missing that connection. We really aren't communicating or connecting in the ways that humans should. The media and politics in general don't help and basically contribute to polarizing people because they generate so much $ and these issues fuel campaigns. It is really sad. I agree that elitism and other things are often mistaken/mislabeled as racism. And we are living in an atmosphere where that has become acceptable. I can only hope we will begin to identify less with political parties, bullshit politicians and their agendas, and identify more with one another. I really commend Chris, Deon, and Ms Pat especially for having this conversation.

Good conversation. I love you Ms. Pat. You're beautiful and so funny. I was raised with some wrong thinking going on. It wasn't outright most of the time. I was also raised Christian and thank God for that because when I walked out of Jr high with a black friend and my grandpa said next time you do that you'll walk home, I was livid. My first thought was Jesus loves everybody. He sees us as one entity, brothers and sisters of the same family. We all are on equal footing before God. He sees people, His beloved children. The enemies agenda is destruction and offense. God's will is unity. We can all celebrate each others differences. There are so many beautiful things that come out of different cultures. How can you say you believe in God and not love everyone He created? That's the belief I chose to go with and I'm so glad I did. I'm choosing to teach my kids the same and pray that it will continue through them. Empathy must be taught. It seems to have disappeared in our world today.

Unless I walk in her foot steps, I will never really know how she/you feel. It's that simple. But the average white person is so committed to being defensive that they will never be able to do that, unfortunately.

Pro life means to protect life from beginning to end. Therefore you invest in Child care prenatal care, nurseries,pre-school, primary, high school, vocational education, colleges and universities. This would contribute to a better coalition of neighbourhoods, then towns, then cities. It would mean paying people for the wok they do a fair and just wage, not trying to defraud them of their pensions after a lifetime of service. To be accountable if called out on unacceptable behaviour and not cowardly target and abuse the person who checked you for your nonsense.
Thanks for these interesting and inspirational conversations. Keep pushing for more uncomfortable but necessary conversations that help enlighten the people who can’t or won’t listen to the people with the educational voices, but may understand a lot clearer coming from someone like you Ms Pat 🤗🙏🏽👈🏽💪🏽

I do agree that it's the training or lack in their training that is at the core. And part of that training should be ongoing in-services about the laws, the ethics, that no matter the situation are primary. You are supposed to be using the least amount of force...PERIODDTT!!! I also think mandatory group therapy would do them a lot of good.
A person given this authority over the public needs to be of a certain moral character, and if not that naturally, it should be taught. Refreshers also a routine. Reminders of how they are expected to operate when they're working with people...it's not supposed to ever be personal...
And the capacity for crisis intervention needs to be on point. It was also a great point made that they escalate situations. I'm white and I'm a girl and I still avoid the police because they are like that... I feel like I haven't really seen them be helpful, and only kind of deteriorate things and take them to a level they don't need to go, and I don't wanna take a chance. I'll cross the street and walk away...smh LOVED this one u guys!

is not black peoples responsibility to educate bigotted, racist people on the ignorance! Unless there is zero tolerance for the hate people spew, the division amongst society and the violence & prejudice displayed you are enabling and sympathizing. Things get more and more hectic, only in my heart/brain/soul, from 2015-present.
SO you don't want me to say anything to so-n-so, I don't have to be around them. I said - No I will not be going out of my way to visit with them and if I happen to be busy when they come so be it.
Cut to - visiting his Auntie who has gone above and beyond to be awesome to us.
I was eager to visit her. While sitting at her kitchen table she looks at me with a twinkle in her eye and says - so-n-so has invited themselves over please don't get to upset I know how they are but if I had reacted to all the mean things they've done to me, I'd be stooping to their level.
Cut to - drinking and brooding when they start with their bs again in the middle of your story as if they are specifically fucking with you because they know the others are protecting them. You realize what a manipulative person they are and your resentment for so-n-so grows deeper as you wait for your moment to strike.

I'm sorry, but there is a ton of misinformation in this episode. I know the intentions were good, but it spread so much wrong information and ideas that are just factually wrong and false.

I think that Chris is gaslighting them. Ms Pat has informed Chris numerous times to stop calling her children crack babies. By now he should know their names. He is passive aggressive disrespectful Ms Pat and her children. I think that’s why her daughter spoke to him that way. She felt the disrespect from Chris by keep calling her a crack baby.

Chris stop calling her kids crack babies. Only Miss Pat can call them that. But Chris hurt people hurt people. Your feelings was hurt but can you appreciate how BP have felt for what we have gone thru through. So flip the script and take a pause and understand that That BP is coming from a place of pain. Then you can have a conversation on why she felt that way etc…
